Please note that The hotel does not have its own car park. However, there are various parking lots throughout Fowey. The Old Station Yard Car Park is about 800 yards further on from the hotel, guests can pay via the yard or on the app ‘Just Park’. There are alternative car parks available. We cannot guarantee spaces as these car parks are operated by an external company and is on a first come first serve basis.Guests are required to show a photo ID and credit card upon check-in. - Gail (8/5): Enjoyable experience - Food was superb, both breakfast and dinner. Staff were friendly and efficient. Place was very clean, comfy and quiet. Room was well presented and bed was firm which we liked. Plenty of hanging space. Luxury bathroom, plenty of towels and toiletries.Great location being central in town with views overlooking estuary. Found out after the event, needed to run bath for 10 mins before yellow water turns clear. Had no phone in room to ring reception as had not yet been installed since refurbishment. There was no bar or fridge in the room which is surprising for a top room at this price.

- John (7/5): Get a room with a sea view and you’ll be very happy. - Right on the edge of the water, if you were lucky enough to get one of those rooms, but we didn’t! The Samphire Restaurant was exceptional, with a very classy menu and a chef that delivered exactly what was advertised! We had dinner there after wandering around the town looking at options and were so glad we did. Breakfast was also delicious and the staff were wonderful. Parking was an issue and it’s a bit of a trek back to the hotel from where one can park. You need to be organized when you pull up outside to drop off your bags as the traffic will back up behind you in the narrow street. Our room was advertised as having a street view but in reality we only had a view into the neighbors room across the very narrow street, as did they into ours. The bed wasn’t great but the linen was clean and smart.

The staff are absolutely lovely, the rooms are beautiful, and you walk right out in the middle of the town centre. We also had dinner here and the food was amazing!!!! Our room didn’t have aircon but it was okay - we had a nice breeze come in through the windows :)

- Nick (10/5): Glorious! - We were there for a wedding, the two main staff members who looked after us (sorry their names escape me) were utterly fantastic, really, I can't praise them highly enough. We travel a lot for work and stay in all kinds of hotels and eat in all kinds of restaurants, and this type of service is lacking in so many places. It was a pleasant surprise and very much noted. The food was great, location stunning and everywhere spotlessly clean. The room was lovely, it was very well equipped with plenty of good sized towels, a lovely bath, plenty of coat hooks (again a small touch that is so often missing!) We loved it. We were the only wedding guests who actually live in Cornwall, so it's unlikely we'll stay again, but we will definitely bring friends for food and very definitely recommend it. Thank you. It really was perfect, but a very tiny thing.... I had to move the beside cabinet to plug in the kettle which wasn't ideal.

- Y2170DRbillc (10/5): Friendly, fun, cosy and great location - Before writing this review, I did read a few previous reviews, and a couple made me grimace – notably the ones complaining about the seagulls. Complaining about seagulls on the coast would be like complaining about getting wet when swimming in the sea! I’m sorry but if you are going to complain about Mother Nature doing her thing… Anyway, whilst I did enjoy the atmospheric cry of the seagulls, it was the very warm welcome that made this a special trip. From Sue on reception, Roxanne serving breakfast and the wonderful front of house, Amy, I was made to feel very welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. Although I only enjoyed breakfast as I had made other dinner arrangements, breakfast was delicious and I will be back for dinner as the menu looked delicious. In short, very happy to recommend and I love the dog friendly nature of the bar, restaurant and cosy rooms. I look forward to returning soon. Thank you Amy and team.

- Ben (10/5): Would definitely come again - The food and accommodation was great. Male staff went above and beyond. I think he was South African. One night we was late getting in and the kitchen was shutting. He managed to persuade the chef to do us a big bowl of mussels which was amazing!! Very polite on arrival and couldn’t have done more for us. Young waitress at breakfast both days qas miserable. Breakfast come out, had to ask for toast, and sauce on both days, she wasn’t very happy when asked for the above. Nothing is open on a Sunday. I did kind of think some shops may be open Sunday hours but nothing.

- 799lisap (2/5): Terrible experience but great location, a real shame.... my whole review wont fit in the box.. - The hotel is in a lovely setting, we really had high hopes and a night away was well earned. Upon check in at the reception desk, I was interrupted by someone wanting the receptionists attention (standing beside the desk, eventually moving behind the receptionist. The person had an ear piece hanging out of their ear & at first I thought it maybe a door person) this was whilst I was handing out my personal details. I paused 'Oh sorry, do you need to interrupt us a moment?' the receptionist said 'oh no its ok, that’s my friend' & continued to check us in (not great for GDPR hey?) We were informed we had been upgraded to a bigger room 'great!' The room was in the attic and therefore 3 flights of stairs (a bit of an assent but fine once up there). We were greeted with a lovely clean room which had a bath in the room, a separate shower and toilet. The issue at first were the rafters, my husband is only 5ft 5 & I'm 5ft 6, we were bending to get around the bottom of the bed where the roof sloped. Forget trying to sit in the lovely decorative chairs which were wedged in the low rafters. Know way of sitting in them apart from the bed. The painting at the bed head could do with another coat of paint as you can see the filler through it, there was complimentary tea bags, biscuits and milk. The milk was in a small glass bottle & although it was labelled as ‘creamy’ it was not kept in a fridge and once we poured it we both changed our minds, it smelt off. The 3 flight of stairs on the decent needs addressing, the carpet was loose and dangerous in places. We entered the bar for a drink on the beautiful decking that overlooks the water. However, we didn't get approached from the two members of staff & after a while we headed back in to ask for drinks ourselves at the bar. We ordered a cocktail each and sat at the window in the bar area. The lady making the cocktails didn't seem confident in the measurements, therefore the cocktails were very strong of the alcohol and you couldn't taste any of the other flavours – so we didn’t order any more. My husband eventually took our empty glasses up to the bar (we wanted to order a bottle of wine & wasn't being served). He mentioned the very loud (constant) noise that was coming from behind the bar. He suggested it maybe the compressor from the drinks fridge, the staff member commented 'Oh it’s been like that for a couple of days, I don't know what it is' We went up to our room and came back down for dinner. It was spotlessly clean and incredibly comfortable. We had a river view and it was worth paying extra for it as it was stunning. It was a real drag to leave the place. Breakfast was delicious and worth adding on to our stay. I would 100% book the same room again. As it’s attached to a restaurant and the reception wasn’t always open it wasn’t clear who to talk to with questions etc. There were a lot of different staff working during our stay and no one greeted us as we came and went so we didn’t really make a connection with the place. Breakfast was delicious but not consistent - make sure you ask for toast and OJ if you’re not offered any.

The breakfasts were superb and the evening meal was really lovely too. Staff were outstanding and were really friendly and helpful.

We tried ringing the bell but no answer and was faulty so started to bang on the door but the night porter was out the back with music on. - Paul (10/5): Lovely boutique Fowey hotel - Lovely boutique hotel In centre of Fowey on mainstreet and river ar rear. Very welcoming manager. Ground floor mainly comprises recently renovated bar , restaurant and outside terrace overlooking river. Our bedroom on 1st floor was very pleasant and well appointed with tea/ coffee making facilities. The en-suite was equipped with high quality toiletries and dressing gowns.The restaurant was closed in the evening ( it was. Monday off season) but the breakfast was delicious with a wide range of options using excellent local products. Would definitely use again . The steps to the upper floors are quite steep and may be a problem for those with mobility issues.

We found the staff to be very friendly and professional, and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. We also enjoyed lovely breakfasts and a great dinner in their restaurant. This hotel is in the perfect location for enjoying the rest of Fowey and would definitely return.

- Gillian (10/5): Stunning room in beautiful location - We were upgraded on arrival to a beautiful room with superb views of the river and Polruan - quite magical at night when the lights came on. Every comfort was provided in the room and the en suite bathroom was stunning with fab White Company toiletries. Breakfast was fab and lots of it! All the staff - both on reception and in the restaurant were super friendly and v helpful. That we couldn’t stay longer!

- 441diannej (8/5): A Bit Curate's Egg - When booking my first question concerned mobility and accessibility issues, so I'm still wondering how we ended up with rooms on the 3rd floor (with no lift). The rooms were furnished to a high standard, but beware of The Hideaway if you are tall - there is very little of it that will allow you to stand tall (and much of that is taken up by the bathtub!). The website is a little misleading in what to expect about the rooms and value for money - in the middle of winter - is open to question. I had noticed that Trip Advisor reviews included a number of complaints about the reception staff - and our experience bore this out. While both were pleasant and personable - there was a noticeable difference in helpfulness. Also, we were due to arrive the Saturday after storm Goretti passed so I had telephoned on the previous Monday to check that there were no problems and it was still appropriate to come to Cornwall. Despite several calls and 2 voice mail messages (according to the answerphone instructions) I did not receive a reply until Thursday. Apparently the hotel was closed for annual holidays - but no one had changed the phone message. On balance, probably not somewhere that I would stay again.

Absolutely beautiful area for long walks, exploring coastline and up-river inland. We stayed in late December / early January with somewhat variable weather but hotel always warm. It was extremely expensive (New Year’s week so prices far higher than usual probably) though we knew this in advance. We had a lovely holiday which we needed. But at the end of the week at final checkout I was surprised to see a bar drink and snack had been added to our bill that we didn’t have; queried it and the receptionist removed it without fuss, but it left a slightly bad taste.

- samie888 (10/5): 5 star experience - We stayed at Old Quay House Hotel for four nights from 23rd to 27th December, and we genuinely couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more. We booked a dog-friendly room and our little pup was made to feel completely at home. On arrival, there was a dog bed set up along with bowls for food and water, which was such a thoughtful touch. Every single member of staff was absolutely lovely throughout our stay. They were friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Our room was restocked daily with high-quality tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and biscuits, which never went unnoticed. The room itself was excellent. The shower and bath were both great, and a small but brilliant detail was having an HDMI cable already set up with the TV. This made it easy for us to plug in a laptop and watch our own films in the evenings. This was both of our first Christmases away from our families, and the whole team at the hotel really made it feel special. The atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and festive without ever feeling over the top. The food was also incredible, with dining available at the on-site Samphire Restaurant. The only disappointment is that we never made it to breakfast. But the meals we did have were absolutely outstanding. My advice to anyone visiting Fowey is simple: stay here. An all-round five-star experience, and somewhere we would return to without hesitation.
