- Leah (10/5): Our third stay and we will be back!!!! - The beauty of the property just makes you want to keep walking outside. Inside is a travel back in time with history lessons added in. The lazy river pool is the bomb!

- Cassie (10/5): - The pool hall was our favorite place to be. We absolutely enjoyed a night swim in a beautiful pool. I love being able to walk around and check everything out while being able to enjoy a nice cold drink
- Heike (8/5): Definitely worthy of a stay - loved it! - The location the grounds, the food, history and art tour, the soaking pools, Ruby’s spa were excellent! Gift shop, venues - all good! No lift to the 3rd floor and no assistance offered, the beds were uncomfortable and room was cold :(
I would also have preferred an en-suite; room 320 we stayed in had a room that looked to be largely unused and could be converted.

- kristi (6/5): - The food, walking through the hallways and River Pool I wanted to share a brief concern after my recent visit to Edgefield, a place I’ve long enjoyed and associated with special memories. During this visit, I noticed a mural near the first-floor men’s laboratory area that felt spiritually and politically divisive to me. I understand the murals reflect historical themes, but the way certain subjects are interpreted can impact whether guests feel broadly welcomed or not.
I’m sharing this respectfully because I’ve valued Edgefield over the years and hope it continues to feel like an inclusive, comfortable space for many perspectives.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this feedback.
- Jackalynn (10/5): A quirky and beautiful place for relaxation and fun. - The soaking pool, the amenities, and the service were exceptional. I was worried about shared bathrooms, but they offered good privacy and were very clean.

- Frank (8/5): - The property in a whole is great! My key card stopped working. Went to bathroom at 3am and key card didn't work so I got locked out of my room and bathroom. Had to walk down 3 floors to desk for a new card.
- Camellia (2/5): - Expedia is full of issshh! False advertisement the room was shared with bunk beds. I didn't even stay there!
- Wendy (10/5): - This was a great place to stay. We enjoyed walking around the grounds and soaking in the pool. We will be back!
- charles (10/5): - A must
- Lyric (2/5): - No AC. Charged extra hidden “taxes” after checking out. These need to be upfront. I would’ve chosen another hotel with a bathroom if I knew.
- Sheryll (8/5): - So much to see on this property. The spa area is amazing. It is a bit noisy, but perhaps that’s because they were getting ready for a big concert, and some young people who were having a get together outside our window at midnight.
- Tamara (10/5): - Loved the little unique bars
- Josue (10/5): -
- Robin (10/5): Fabulous time with friends, great food, making fond memories. - Unique and quality. Variety, uniqueness, vibe, food, salt pool.
- David (10/5): I'll stop there again. - No breakfast.
- Randall (10/5): - Love the soaking pool and live music at the Red Shed. Food was Very Good
- Timothy (6/5): - Yes
- Gregory (6/5): Interesting and fun place to stay. Wouldn’t recommend for the accommodations. - Beautiful spa soaking pool. The rooms were very tired and in need of renovation. No A/C.
- Karen (4/5): didn't have room ready at 3:00! Rooms run down.Ripped sunken chair.Shared bathroom down hall a pain - tasty breakfast in the dining room
- nancy (5/5): It was peaceful and relaxing. - The history, furnishings, decor, and the grounds were meticulously maintained. I didn’t see one insect when I was there. Thank you for providing coffee and cold water. The soaking tub was my favorite. The sink in our room had no hot water and drained very poorly. The air in our room smelled very musty and the box fan was very loud. Regarding the soaking pool, it would have been very nice if there were an outdoor shower to rinse off when we got out.
- Jordan mcgahuey (10/5): -
- Laurie (4/5): - My room was smelly.
- Kathryn (10/5): - Unique and fun!
- xuyen (10/5): - Everything is great will come back next time

- Nhat (10/5): - Lovely place
- Lukas (10/5): - Great place to stay! Highly recommended
- Annieup (9/5): Superb -
- Daniel (2/5): Not staying there again. - The outside was beautiful The customer service at the power station and the cleanliness of the room
- Dinean (10/5): Exceptional - Overall experience was amazing. Your staff was wonderful. I love the friendliness of the people that come to visit your hotel. The staff was very helpful in getting extra pillows and whatever we needed. Our first night was very hot. But it was 90 something. It made me appreciate the fan and when I do have air conditioning. It's part of the charm of the place. I so appreciate the art and keeping the culture within the building. McMenamins is really a treasure. I love the experience. Thank you so much for doing what you do. And your products as a side note are amazing I love the wine and your beer and the whiskey!
- Kayla (10/5): - An awesome place to stay with lots of options for food, drink, and fun! Only thing was during the heat wave, there's no AC so one small fan per room was provided. Luckily at night with the window open, there was colder air.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Tourist Trap or Hotel - Make up your mind! - We stayed two nights in the heat of the summer. No A/C in rooms, hallways or bathrooms which makes for two uncomfortable nights in 95 degree heat. We opened the window (no screen), but because the bar stays open so late and the entire hotel is a tourist trap hangout, people drink on the porch outside our window until well past midnight. While we don't mind a shared bathroom, we made the assumption that they would be updated, or at least clean and ventilated. The showers weren't cleaned for the three days we were there - and we only know this because someone else left their soap and nobody came to clean it up. While walking mid-morning in PJs to take a shower in the shared restroom, you have to maze your way through art tours, as groups of people are gathered together to hear about the history of the property and the art. Very uncomfortable experience for folks staying as a hotel guest. To top it off, various people roam through the halls looking for secret rooms or interesting art and more times than we can count, our door handle was juggled in hopes that someone would happen upon a secret/surprise. This happened multiple times to us for both our internal door, and an external door that led to a porch and was barely held locked by a simple chain. Seems it is time for McMenamins to decide whether they want this property to be a tourist trap or an actual hotel, because it isn't working as both.
- Makiya (8/5): - The onlything I didn’t like but my fault was not knowing the soaking pool was so hot on a 90degree weather but it was fun despite the hot day
- Lunceford (5/5): Come for fun but don't stay the night - The building is very historic and rustic. The surrounding property is beautiful and well kept. There are several food and drink options. The property is large and a little confusing. I would have appreciated a map had they had any. There was no A/C in our room. To compensate, an old floor fan was in the room. It barely blew air and was covered in dust, not having been cleaned in a long time. There were no chairs in our room and no TV. I suspect this is by design so you don't spend much time in your room. For $170/ night, I expected a lot more than a small bedroom.
- Karen (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay!! Will be going back when in the area.
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional - Great food. Great hotel.
- Mary (4/5): - The property, room were fine, food and restaurant good service and food. My big issue was I was charged $256.00 at check in then $206.00 at check out now over 3 days several calls and I am still out $462 for one nights stay. I was not ok being charged an additional $206 the next morning and told that to the front desk. I have complained to no avail. I had to cancel my trip as I could not afford a hotel with that much on my card. Basically you need to figure that you need $500 to stay the night for 2 people one bed bath down the hall
- Thomas (8/5): - Me and my girlfriend had a great time!
- Jessica (7/5): Fun + special place for a girls weekend - I liked the pool, the on-site food and drinks, and the ambiance was beautiful. My only dislike was the bed. It was not comfortable at all (it was very hard).
- Joseph (8/5): - The community bathrooms on the third floor were not cleaned in a timely manner. They were dirty when we returned from the soaking pool in the evening and still had the same problems when we went to use them the following morning.
- Larry (10/5): - Had an unplanned layover in Portland while getting repair work done on my Sprinter Van. An employee at Outside Van recommended McMenamins Edgefield and really glad I chose this place. Unique lodging experience and fabulous dinner and breakfast at the pub and restaurant in the main lodge. Much better than staying at a chain hotel! Would have liked to take advantage of the billiards, but didn’t have anyone to play with. Would definitely stay here again if I’m in the Portland area!
- Damali (10/5): - Red wine Merlot and crab and artichoke dip yum
- Jeanne (10/5): - Words fall short of how amazing this historic places. The ambiance is indescribable. I feel like i'm in the movie somewhere in time with christopher reeves.
Totally charming and well preserved. I love roaming around the hotel, the little venues and exploring the gardens.
- Daniel (10/5): - gggg
- Toni (1/5): The worst. Unpleasant in every way - The staff were rude. Everything was dirty. Awful experience. Tried to talk to a manager, room was right on porch so people could see us, no privacy. So dark and dingy Everything
Staff were all super unpleasant.
- Patti (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ivy (10/5): - Great stay!
- Karey (10/5): - Magical location
- Chloe (10/5): - I’ve stayed many times… was in a room once but switched to the hostel. I’ve never had problems staying in one. The hotel is pretty accommodating with my request to be in a bottom bunk (due to medical reasons I can’t go up high or on ladders). No smells and overall it’s pretty quiet.
I have my visit planned for next week as I’m graduating college. But it was a pleasure to utilize edgefield to meet my needs while traveling every other week this term for college.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Art work history outdoor salt hot pool
- JOANNE (10/5): - Loved the playground feeling for stress relief and rejuvenation!
- Rebekah (6/5): - Loved the amenities - spa, restaurant and bar. Lovely staff at the black rabbit
Shared rooms were just okay
Clean but stuffy smell
- Magda (10/5): - Es nuestro lugar favorito, siempre que venimos a Portland, al me os una noche nos quedamos y disfrutamos del lucar, el soak pool, el shuffle board, las bebidas, la pizza y postres. El ambiente es unico.
- Richard (2/5): - I would like to express my concerns regarding my recent stay. Firstly, the bed in my room was quite hard, which affected my comfort during the night. Additionally, I was awakened at 6 AM by a loud noise from a company cleaning the grease traps in the restaurant. This disturbance was quite disruptive, especially since I had expected a more peaceful environment during my stay. When I brought this issue to the attention of the front desk staff, I received an apology, but it did not resolve my frustration. I believe it is essential for a hotel to adhere to its stated quiet hours, especially when guests are paying for a relaxing experience. Therefore, I would like to request a refund for the inconvenience I encountered. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
- Elena (9/5): Good stay with the group of friends - Great entertainment opportunities around the property Smell of the old building and some mold in the shared bathroom
- Sasa (7/5): Good - Noise in the morning
- Savanah (6/5): Unsure I would go back again. - Incredible landscaping and art. Such a unique place to stay. Cleanliness has really gone down hill. Community spaces were worrisome. The soaking pool was disgusting.
- Jasen (8/5): Very good -
- Patrice (10/5): Great get away! - A great experience to stay there, all of the dining accommodations, the spa, were wonderful
- Kristy (9/5): Superb - Everything was wonderful! Pillows and mattresses could be updated.

- Susan (10/5): Must go - Great stay. Wonderful hotel. Good wines.
- Dillon (10/5): Exceptional - Personnel was awesome!
- Carie (10/5): - Very Oregon
- Lois (10/5): Watch with amazement and relax after days work - What a wonderful way to wind down at the end of my business work days in the warm soaking pool, never was full or kid splashing, bar close so relax, lay back and enjoy. After great food and service. I say one evening at the bar in the Power Station and watched in AMAZEMENT the skillful order monitoring of food servers and handling all the food orders, was so entertaining and I wanted to applause when orders were juggled, was such fun. Sorry the hotels.com site would not upload my photos.
- Connie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lois (10/5): Business an pleasure vacation must - Staff is welcoming, friendly, helpful and rooms are so interesting, love the Ruby spa soaking, trully so great to end my work day.
- Jane (8/5): - Loved the trees and landscape
- Mishler (8/5): I really did enjoy my stay there. Even though I didn't have enough time. - I didn't know you could get breakfast and I didn't know that it was included. I really did like the art work that was in the Hall ways on the walls. I would of really liked a later check out. There wasn't enough time for me to do the things that I really wanted to do and see. Like Ruby's spa and iwNted to browse the gift shop. Didn't have enough time.
- Marvin (10/5): - The artwork and build of the establishment is unique and great to wander around. The theater is an awesome luxury to have available for longer stays.
- Fatima (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ky-mani (10/5): - Such a great place to stay.
- Eric (10/5): Great experience and an interesting facility - Wonderful stay at a very interesting property - The grounds are incredible, lots to see and do all around, plenty of food and drink options. I especially liked the fact that the rooms do not have TVs - makes for a more intimate stay on the property. A bit damp and dingy at times, but that's kind of the appeal - The facility is an old building and they have done everything they can to maintain that older aesthetic - I think it works great considering that's what you sign up for!
