Guest Reviews
- D3545CDdebbieh (10/5): Amazing place. - We love it. It's clean the people are nice . We love being right on the water. Amazing place, and walkable to everything.
- N5311WNgeorges (10/5): A Great Spot to Stay In Helen, GA - My wife and I stayed in the Helendorf from 31 March to 3 April and had an absolutely delightful time. Our room was situated right over the river with trees beginning to leaf out. The room itself was modernized, clean and the exceptionally comfortable - from the chairs and sofa to the bed. I think it was the best night's sleep we've had in quite a while. I used the pool which was heated and enclosed which definitely helps prevent sunburn. The staff was super helpful and friendly. I'd also add the location is ideal - close to some great gelato and restaurants plus you can easily reach the Helen to Unicoi trail in 5 minutes. A grocery is also within walking distance. Overall, the Helendorf is a fun place to stay and certainly puts one in the mood for an Alpine adventure. I would definitely recommend a stay.
- erinjN6013AX (10/5): Comfortable stay and perfect location - Comfortable beds, clean room, perfect location! We could walk to everything we needed and watched the sunset right from our creekside balcony. We could not be more pleased
- W9330AGerins (10/5): Great place to stay - My husband and I had a wonderful experience at the Helendorf! We would definitely stay again. We had a balcony over the river and the hotel is right in town so you can walk to everything. It was clean and quiet. I wasn't crazy about carpet in the room but the room felt clean none the less. The room was larger than I expected and there was a screen door leading to the balcony which we loved! We were promptly greeted upon check in and the employees were pleasant and professional. The grounds were clean and well kept. I did not use the pool but I hope to next time. We did not take advantage of the breakfast, we opted for a hot breakfast. Next time, we will stay more than one night!
- Lorrtid (10/5): Excellent accommodations and location great value - Great view, friendly staff overall a great value, location and experience. Tried to rebook a future date w family but will not accommodate request for adjoining rooms and selection was my only disappointment
- 368nataschal (8/5): Great location and friendly staff - This hotel is centrally located and has access to everything. The room set up and decor, in general, is in need of repairs/upgrading. The breakfast is all pre-packaged food, which is high in preservatives. This might need consideration for altering. The folks are friendly and the rooms are clean. The outside sitting area with rocking chairs is a plus. That adds to it. The value for what you get is ok based on a tourist town.
- C2111UAelisap (10/5): Family fun!¡ - The best family trip,we brought my mama- law which was her request. She is 84 years old, and she had the best time. Thank you for the great service and the wonderful view of the river.
- Bee_Keeper_05 (10/5): Slept In A Tower, Very Cool. - We had a great experience. We stayed in Rapunzel’s tower. (Room 333).
It is a very unique room with some history. Story has it Jackie Gleason stayed in this room during the filming of Smokey and the Bandit. His signed autograph picture is also hanging in the lobby.
The hotels location is close everything. Could not asked for a better location. You don’t have to drive anywhere, which is nice since most the parking in town is paid parking. Parking at the hotel is free.
There are rooms with a balcony on the river if you rather have a view. Older hotel, but worth the trade off for the location, river, history, and the staff were very friendly and helpful!
Highly recommend.
Happy Travels
- N4385CHdianek (10/5): Great location - Very clean and spacious rooms (we were on the river side of the building) with the balcony. It was relaxing to sit outside and listen to the river before bed. Ice machines available on each floor. It is a great central location for walking around the area.
- GrandTour314158 (8/5): Would stay again - Great location. Can walk to a restaurants and gift shops.
The rooms are older. But most of the hotel/motels in Helen are. The room has a small refrigerator and actually a small stove whichwas a surprise. And I’ll have to say I was not expecting the bed and the pillows to be so comfortable. So that was a plus. If you don’t like dated rooms, would probably not be for you. But if you don’t have a problem, a great stay.
The staff was super friendly. In the continental breakfast is plentiful. Packaged waffles/pancakes and other items. Very nice little extra.
- Excursion67562073464 (10/5): HELEN FUN!! - As always we enjoyed our time of fun and fellowship with our family. Lots of great food and fun!! We did have a few downs during our weekend. I hope next year is better. Lots of fish were caught and lots of memories were made. We are a fun group! Loud and proud to get together.
- Ashd0307 (8/5): Great stay and great location - Came to visit family on aThursday and didn’t expect to stay the night. We needed a hotel at 9:30pm and they accommodated us. The front staff guy was super nice. The hotel was a quaint room with a comfortable king size bed. The bathroom had a large vanity and the room came with a small fridge and microwave. It was quiet and a comfortable stay. My only complaint would be that the toiletries should be upgraded. There was a very small wrapped bar of soap for the shower (hand soap) and tiny bottles of shampoo and conditioner. I travel with my toiletries but if you do not, I would not rely on theirs. Overall great stay, great location.
- X4784IYmelissab (10/5): Great time! - Can't beat the location. Everyone was friendly. I love staying on the creek and hearing the water.
- georgeaD1130QU (10/5): Great hotel in Helen - Great location and value. Will definitely stay here again.
- ClaraS206 (10/5): Great Stay at the Helendorf! - We had a room with a riverview and balcony. It was a lovely room. There was a separate bedroom, a kitchen area, a living room and access to the balcony. It was nice to have a full size refrigerator. We didn't use the stove but also nice to have the option. There was a 2 person jetted tub in our bedroom. In the toilet room there was a shower with two separate shower heads. There was a double sink off the bedroom and a sink in the toilet room. It was nice to options! The room was very clean and we opted to not have the room cleaned since we could only stay 2 days
We loved the location - could easily walk to the shopping area and the restaurants in the area.
- Okispice (10/5): I could live in this room all year! - I loved my spacious room with a view of the river. I was able to sit on the balcony and enjoy the river and the across. All the furniture was comfortable. The shower is huge. I also enjoyed sitting in front of the fireplace on the comfortable seating in the living room. My room had a full kitchen with a full-size fridge though I did not need to take advantage of it. Thehotel is clean and centrally located. It’s one of my favorite rooms I’ve ever stayed in - very homey.
- B5660RKbrucek (10/5): Excellent accommodations in Helen - Everything about our stay was excellent. The room was immaculate and the ample parking enabled easy access to Helen. Also, the front desk was very accomodating.
- alexmS8705XI (10/5): Helen GA wonderful trip - Excellent location. Walking distance to everything. Great local German food. Banasee (spell check) restaurant right across the street is delicious!
You must take a trip to Anna Ruby fall. Great for for all levels.
But, if you want a challenge hike Ravens cliff with several waterfalls.
All in all great trip
Hotel very clean . Front desk staff very courteous
- sands1009 (10/5): Excellent Hotel - We had a great stay! Room was clean and staff was amazing! We will definitely be staying at Helendorf River Inn again!
- christis287 (10/5): Highly recommended! - We had a great time on our weekend trip to Helen. I loved my balcony room overlooking the river. It was also a very convenient location for walking around.
- R8801JPchristyt (10/5): Fabulous! - This was our 3rd stay & as always wonderful! Beds are a little softer than we like but still good!
- ATexasMom (8/5): Enjoyed our visit! - We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location was amazing. Right on the river. Walkable to everything. The room was spacious and had a nice balcony view of the river and town. The property is showing its age, but everything in the room was in good working order. The beds were very comfortable. The room was quiet.
The only improvements would be to eliminate the musty odor in the room and to descale the shower head and hose on the hand held. Otherwise, the shower and bathroom were very clean. Also, breakfast was kinda terrible. They could really use some fresh fruit and yogurt. We ate some of their pre-packaged burritos and sausage biscuits, but they were not good.
- K8579CKbilld (10/5): Our favorite place in Helen. - Everything was great, our 3rd time staying there. Attended the MiniCooper Blitz..looking forward to next year.
- kristinew427 (10/5): A beautiful stay! - A gorgeous river view, and so very clean! The staff was very friendly, too.
- changethen (10/5): Great Hotel! Great Value! - Great location, great value, the grab and on breakfask was suprisely good especially the pancakes. Loved the room's high wood ceilings and rocking chairs outside the room on the second floor. Can hear the bands playing from the restaurant next door so that was great. Will definitely return.
- RandyB692 (10/5): German Town In Georgia - We stayed in Helen for 2 nights. Helendorf Inn was a Great place to stay. Veteran owned and operated. The staff was always friendly and helpful. They gave us suggestions of where to eat the best German cuisine (Bodensee) and were spot on.
- LibbieRoth (10/5): Great place to stay - Love this hotel. Close to everything, the staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are clean, beds are super comfortable and had a balcony I could sit on and enjoy my coffee while watching the river. Even have a refrigerator, microwave AND Keurig type coffee maker! Definitely where I'll stay next time I'm in the area.
- E7079TGbrandonh (10/5): A Wonderful Weekend Getaway - This was the 4th time my wife and I stayed at Helendorf River Inn. It was also the 3rd my parents stayed as well. The staff have always been extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are always nice and really clean. We have stayed in standard and balcony rooms. The location is excellent. The river running beside the inn adds to the wonderful experience. You can sit out on your balcony or at one of the patios and watch the tubers play on the river. This time we watched the trout fishers. We also enjoyed sitting and listening to the nearby live music. We will definitely be back to stay at Helendorf River Inn.
- Trip03246318722 (10/5): Amazing - It was close to everything. The rooms were absolutely amazing. We will definitely be staying there again in a couple of month!
- G7352PVanitaj (10/5): Riverside Retreat - Had a great girls road trip to Helen and we enjoyed our stay at Helendorf River Inn, our riverside room was perfect and like our own little retreat and exactly what we needed!
- tanyat355 (10/5): Stay here for every trip to the area! - 10/10! My sister and I took our bi-annual sister trip to Helen since we were restricted on time. We stayed in the Tower Suite at The Helendorf River Inn, aka Rapunzel's Tower. We absolutely loved it! We were off season and the price was comparable to chain hotels, but the atmosphere of The Helendorf was so quaint. The three flights of stairs were easy to navigate even though I am not the tiniest woman. The room was quiet, very clean, and filled with everything we could possibly need for a week, let alone one night. We got our parking pass in the morning, so we were able to park before even checking in! The hotel is located right in the heart of Helen and we walked everywhere. I can't wait to go back!
- grahamhazlette (10/5): GREAT PLACE, GREAT VALUE, GREAT ROOM, AMAZING VIEW OF STREAM, STAFF GREAT, LOVED STAY, HEART OF HELEN OCATION - GREAT LOCATION, GREAT ROOM, NICE AND QUIET, OVERLOOKED STREAM (BEAUTIFUL VIEW), LARGE ROOMS, GREAT BED (COMFORTABLE), HEART OF HELEN, ONLY CONCERN WAS LACK OF ANY MILK (FOR MOTHER OATS, AND NO DRY BREAKFAST CEREALS). Staff indicated milks spoil to fast, but they had fridge in breakfast area which could store pints of milk as needed for meals. Recommend having 2% milk or whole milk, just do not purchase large amounts during slow periods. THATS IT FOR ANY NEGATIVE, THE ONLY SMALL CONCERN FOR US, EVERYTHING WAS REALLY GREAT, WILL STAY AGAIN. STAFF AMAZING
- OnAir41845737702 (8/5): River Relaxation In A Great Location - Staff was very kind. Nice clean room, comfortable bed. Great location and beautiful/relaxing view of the river.
Easy walk to anywhere in downtown Helen from here.
Can't speak to the noise level, as our stay was during a pretty quiet time for the town.
Had a great romantic and relaxing time celebrating our 100th full moon since our honeymoon here in Helen.
- O3593XAgaryc (6/5): Great relaxing next to the Chattahoochee River - The location is great with the rooms need major updating
- Footprints719673 (6/5): Choose room carefully - Girls trip with my bestie and her sister. The front desk clerk was very friendly and very fast. I appreciated the ability to get a smoking room, which we did not smoke in (balcony), and which DID NOT smell like smoke. The beds were very comfortable.
What brought the rating down? The stinginess of soaps supplied (2 sinks, bathtub, 1 tiny bar of soap, should be 3. Not very sanitary) and the fact that the connecting room door is not a real door and is paper thin. We heard the people in the next room having relations, coughing, and snoring. Very difficult to fall asleep. Add the weed smell coming from the room and once the balcony- I am not a prude, but there's a time and a place, man.
It's not that we wouldn't stay here again, but we would most definitely make sure we do not get an ajoining room!
- tracyhT4315WR (10/5): Fun - Love it . It was clean and nice had a good time
- jodywB8630OJ (10/5): Love this property!!! - Beautiful scenic property located in the center of Helen beside the Chattahoochee river. A BIG PLUS IS THE outside seating and tables at the waters edge that offer shaded lounging to enjoy the serene peace and view of the running river. Clean rooms, friendly and accommodating staff and the property's centered lication tops it off. This was our second visit, and we'll be back again!!
- Jbetsch1 (10/5): A Bavarian Castle on the Hooch - We were there for the annual MINI Cooper HelenBlitz. The Helendorf always serves as the home base for MINIacs the last weekend in Feb. Centrally located (on the banks of the 'Hooch'), the hotel is close to all things Helen. The facility is well-kept & has ample parking. One suggestion for hotel mgmt: with respect to the breakfast offered to guests, please go back to a more standard fare & get away from pre-packaged everything. COVID is behind us.
- Q6011RRkims (10/5): So cute! - This hotel is in a perfect location to walk the town. The rooms are adorable! Some may say dated but I say retro and themed perfectly! The lady at the desk at check in was very sweet. The rooms were clean and the breakfast had sausage sandwiches, waffles and danish.
- ROBERTP658 (10/5): Anniversary Trip to Helen, GA - We stayed in the tower suite at Helendorf River Inn over our anniversary weekend and it was the perfect accommodations. The suite was clean and well-appointed and the inn is right in downtown Helen. Off season prices were extremely resonable. We will return.
- sharoneV3852LI (10/5): Love the Helendorf - The very Best hotel in Helen! Have been staying there for years. Love the Helendorf!!! The views, the rooms the location is wonderful. The staff is always so very nice!!!! BEST PART OF GOING TO HELEN!
- M502VMmatthewb (10/5): Great location! - Charming hotel in a fantastic central location to walk to everything that downtown Helen has to offer! Our ground floor room on the river was really comfortable and clean!
- mikeflynn79 (10/5): Great Valentines Day stay. - Great. Spacious room. Everything was clean. Great location. Could walk to everything. Great view of the river. Could not beat the price. No issues during our stay.
- Z6139KDcarlm (10/5): Christmas Time Stay - We had a great stay at the Helendorf. It is conveniently located so that you can walk anywhere in Helen you'd like. The staff was very courteous and accommodating. They called us shortly after checkout because it was believed we had left something in our room. Would stay there again and recommend to anyone visiting Helen, GA.
- Z4024JWpaulr (10/5): Good place to stay at when you go out of town - They did a good job clean the room, it was nice and clean, they were good people who work there, good location at down town, I go there every year to stay.
- karenlB2919BP (10/5): Hanging out Riverfront - The room was beautiful, a premium with a balcony over the river. Beds super comfy and the fridge was big enough to fit our wine!
- sharonsI9241GU (10/5): A great experience - Location was great you could walk to all the shops. Room was clean and staff were friendly and professional. Value was great. We are planning our next trip and want to stay with them again and bring our family with us. We did not have any problems at all during our stay.
- Guide32834699483 (10/5): The Best team everrrr - We had a wonderful first-time experience at **Helendorf River Inn**, thanks to the amazing staff. Unfortunately, Mother Nature disrupted our scrapbook event and cut our trip short—but that was absolutely no fault of Helendorf. Weather is clearly out of their hands.
We are already looking forward to returning! The hotel rooms are very comfortable, and the balcony offers such a peaceful, relaxing view.
I would especially like to express my appreciation to **Cathy and Caitlyn**—they were beyond excellent. And I can’t forget our event coordinator, **Lisa**. What a superb team!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ **5 stars — exceptional service, beautiful setting, and a team that truly cares. Highly recommended!**
---Scrap Jam Retreats
- 231CarolB (10/5): Wonderful Experience! - I was there for a scrapbook retreat with friends. The hotel rooms are large and clean. Bonus of a second sink outside the bathroom so two people can get ready with no problem. The refrigerator is larger than a dorm size so plenty of room if you bring food. The staff was friendly and helpful! Although, we had to leave early due to impending weather, the staff kept us informed and offered recommendations to keep us safe! Would absolutely recommendation this hotel!
- lorier401 (10/5): Loved it! - We loved the Helendorf River Inn! It was easy check in and check out. The room was clean and comfortable. The view was awesome and you could easily walk to food and entertainment. Definitely recommend!
- Getaway567812 (10/5): Loved this stay! - Wonderful location, clean and cozy room. Parking was easy and the included breakfast was nice. Would definitely stay again!
- Thefraziers9 (10/5): Highly Recommended!! - The Helendorf is a charming hotel that is easily walkable to downtown Helen, GA. The decor and comfort were perfect. The value was great! And the continental breakfast hit the spot! I highly recommend it.
- G5079EVjenniferg (10/5): Awesome place! - Helendorf never disappoints! We stay here every time we visit Helen, unless we’re camping. The rooms are spacious, clean and updated with all the creature comforts anyone needs, including streaming, hairdryers/toiletries, daily housekeeping visits and the much appreciated daily continental breakfast and warm beverages round the clock!!! Check-in is a breeze and parking was never an issue. We highly recommend the economical, safe, and accommodating lodging at Helendorf!
- C7575TSlaurenv (10/5): Our Stay: Short But Sweet - We stayed at the Helendorf Inn for one night on our way north and had a great experience. The room was clean, which is always a top priority for us. We absolutely loved being right in the middle of the downtown area. Everything was a short, easy walk, which made exploring so convenient.
My 11-year-old loved the breakfast, which was a great way to start the day. The staff was friendly and very helpful, and overall the stay was smooth and comfortable.
If you want to be centrally located, and in a clean, welcoming place, this is a great option.
- B2688ZQterryb (8/5): Returned for 35 wedding anniversary after spending honeymoom there. - Room was clean. Small. Quiet.Right in the middle of town.Nice atmosphere. Price was good. Continental breakfast was subpar.
- denisemB3374JY (10/5): Quiet Get Away, even though it was cut short due to family sickness. - The location perfect. Right in the heart of downtown and walking distance to everything. All the Christmas lights and decorations were still up and it was gorgeous at night.
The patio with river view was awesome. The rooms were very clean. The value of the rooms was great for older couples that have AARP. It was so quiet at night. We enjoyed the individuality wrapped breakfast items and the best thing was the coffee that was available all day during business hours. The staff was super nice. Can’t find anything bad to say.
- modestor2026 (6/5): average - need to have some type off quiet hrs. kids playing in the hallway into midnight slamming door thru out the night breakfast should be 0700 thru 1000
- jamesdF7169DE (10/5): Feels like Germany. - We usually stay in newer hotels. This particular Inn is an older motel that is a little dated but, I believe it adds to the authenticity and overall atmosphere of the experience. We stayed in one of the balcony rooms overlooking the river. It was clean and positioned perfectly near Main Street but far enough that noise wasn’t a problem. It is pretty much in the center of town. You will want to walk anywhere you go in town due to the volume of traffic.
If you want the continental breakfast, better get there right at 7 to beat the crowd.
We would stay there again.
- S1664FKlaurar (8/5): Location is great, and overall nice. - Overall the hotel is great. A few downsides were that it was very loud at night so we needed a loud sound machine to drown down the noise. Only 1 vending machine which was all the way in the lobby, the ice machine on our floor didn't work, we had a few big spiders living outside our room and we wish they had a better free breakfast.
- J5363UIalejandroc (8/5): Great location and charming stay with river views - We stayed at Helendorf River Inn during Christmas 2025 with our two kids (ages 11 and 8), and overall had a very nice experience. The hotel has a classic Bavarian-style look, which fits perfectly with the charm of Helen. From the outside and in the hallways, the property does feel a bit outdated, but the rooms themselves were comfortable and well kept.
We booked a room with a balcony overlooking the river, and that was definitely a highlight of our stay. The view was beautiful and relaxing, especially during the holiday season.
One of the biggest advantages of this inn is its excellent location. It’s right in downtown Helen, within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the main street. This is a huge plus, since driving and parking can be stressful in such a small and busy town — especially around Christmas.
Breakfast was okay, nothing special, but enough to start the day. Overall, it’s a solid place to stay if you want convenience, charm, and a great location. We would definitely consider staying here again.
- tshorn (10/5): Great place on the river - Room was great overlooking the river. It was clean and had everything we needed. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely book here again if, and hopefully when we return.
- johnmM8668QR (8/5): Relaxing - Great location, rooms well kept.can walk to all restaurants and activities.the parking lot is huge ,and no additional charge for parking .noticed that many, many hotels now charge for parking.riverruns outside your room.very peaceful.
- TravelingJennG (10/5): Location can’t be beat! - We would stay again! Locations is great! Walkable to all shops and restaurants. All staff we encountered were kind and friendly.
I would bring a fan or noise machine. Walls are thin and audible sounds can be heard from the outside (band) or extremely loud guests next to you-just to help you sleep.
- M9202JGmanuelc (10/5): Excellent place - love it - Love this place. Definitely will be back.
Excellen,t for families, couples and super clean.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
- whitneybZ505DJ (10/5): Good views at the Helendorf - This is the second time I’ve stayed at the Helendorf and I love it. I’ve gone in December both times and stayed in the patio rooms. The walls separating the patios makes you feel like your not in a row of rooms with other people and the place has been very clean both times and fairly quiet for an older hotel!
- realtorruben (10/5): Helen,Ga - The staff was friendly and helpful. Good price value. Location is great, your walking distance to everything. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. I will stay there again.
- Sunshine37840099203 (10/5): Wonderful place to stay in Helen! - This was a very lovely place to stay. The rooms were clean and spacious, and you have a nice view of the river and some of the Christmas lights. Highly recommend this location!
- gagramma2020 (10/5): Will be going back!!! - Perfect location for walking the downtown area. Cold weather did not slow us down and the shops are full of great gifts. Room was set up nice and plenty of towels. Clean room and area around the Inn.
- Zelmo73 (10/5): Great place to get in the Christmas spirit! - Great location, scenic grounds along the river, convenient for walking to shops and restaurants, comfortable room, and friendly staff. Even had a miniature Christmas tree in the room.
- Safari24995577643 (10/5): Friends - Great location, great service, rooms overlooked the river. Front desk area is beautiful. Staff are very friendly. The room was clean and beds were comfy.
- kimberlybG4854IG (10/5): Friendly, Clean, and Great views on the upper floors - The location is absolutely perfect. From the moment you walk into their very warm and inviting lobby with the beautiful fireplace you feel like even though you're away from home you're still home. The rooms are so quaint in the tower section where we stayed. The front lobby staff are extremely sweet and very helpful. This is our second year in a row to stay here. The value that we paid for is definitely fair. The cleanliness was good and as far as the noise level the three nights we stayed we did not have a single problem.
- 284kendallm (10/5): A wonderful time to get away and enjoy the Christmas decorations in Helen. - Just a wonderful time to get away and see all of the sights and Christmas decorations in Helen. We enjoyed all of the vendors and all of the great restaurants. The beautiful drive through the trees and mountains are amazing.
- Gsbingel (10/5): Great Location! - In the middle of downtown across the street from the Coaster. We walked everywhere. There is a Wendy's across the street. Turn right and go to all the shops. German restaurant and biergarden on other side of the street.
- LainyEK2017 (10/5): Great location! - The location was great. Free onsite parking. Very awesome staff who had excellent communications with us prior to our arrival, upon check-in, and check-out. Would highly recommend and would stay there again in a heartbeat. Plus, it is right across from the coaster which was a blast!
- Happiness15352881253 (10/5): Fall trip - Location is great, you can walk pretty much anywhere downtown! Room was decently clean. The balcony river view was nice. Breakfast and amenities were pretty basic but we didn’t need anything extravagant. Overall nice experience!
- G5680EMlaural (10/5): Great location, and a wonderful place to stay! - This was just a girls' trip to Helen, and this was the perfect location! Easy walking distance to everything! Rooms were well-done, clean, quiet, and had such a lovely balcony overlooking the river. Great value as well. Office staff was helpful and friendly!
- billytO396HV (8/5): Overall great experience - This was an overall great experience. We did not have any issues. Everything worked. I did want to mention that i got a nose bleed 3 evenings in a row. I never get nose bleeds. I have hear that mold spores in the air can cause this. I am not blaming the hotel because I cannot confirm how I got nosebleed. I am back home now with no issues. it might be something to check into if other people have had similar issues. Otherwise, no complaints.
- dawgrf (8/5): Great location, near everything. - Clean room. Friendly Lobby staff accommodating to additional needs. Great location. We had 3rd floor king with balcony right on Shoals of river
- elenacJ9625QQ (10/5): We are grateful - Clean big room with everything what needed. Cute small city, beautiful nature. Friendly and hospitable staff . Thanks. I’ll recommend
- heathercR193WS (10/5): Best Hotel in Helen! - My husband and I have been going to the Helendorph River Inn for years. It is just beautiful on the outside and it is extremely clean inside the rooms. The riverfront balcony rooms have the best views in Helen. The sounds of the water is so peaceful and the lights are beautiful. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. The Helendorph is literally our home away from home. We won't stay anywhere else in Helen!! If you want a wonderful place to stay that has an amazing view and is in walking distance to everything then book the Helendorph River Inn immediately!
- Experience560614 (10/5): The Best place to stay in Helen GA - I absolutely Love this place!! They are Always so nice & always willing to go out of their way to fulfill any requests. And I can not say enough about how comfy their beds & sheets are, just heaven!! Get a room with a balcony overlooking the river!! It's the only place I stay now!!!
- beckytD5834PI (8/5): Older but clean and the best location in Helen!! - This older hotel was very quaint and CLEAN!! The location is the best in Helen as it was in walking distance to everything! The check in process was a breeze and the greeter, "TomTom" was the sweetest! Will definately stay here again!
- Tourist46464959647 (10/5): Excellent location with nice rooms. - Staff was very friendly, especially the cleaning staff who always checked to make sure everything was good. The inn and room were both clean and the view of the river from the balcony was excellent. Loved to sit outside and read a book between excursions into town and the main part of town was just across the river, so location was great. Will definitely return.
- thmpsnbnny (10/5): Favorite lodging - As always, a pleasant, comfortable stay. Housekeeping checked in on us to see if we needed anything, and the coffee in the lobby is delicious! The lights reflecting off the river at night were beautiful. We had plenty of hot water, towels and comfy beds. See you next year!
- retaw2020 (10/5): Friendly and Relaxing - The room was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed the balcony overlooking the river; listening to the running water was soothing and relaxing. The hotel staff was warm, personable and friendly. Definitely looking forward to staying again.
- Go36016696249 (6/5): Request a room away from the crowd. - The location of the hotel is great. It's located on the river within 2 minutes of downtown so there is no need to drive anywhere. The hotel was built decades ago but our room was updated and very comfortable. However, the walls are paper thin and unfortunately we had one adjacent neighbor with a barking dog and on the other side we had one of those people that can't sleep unless their TV is on all night long. Needless to say, even with the comfortable beds we got very little sleep.
- stiebo (8/5): Oktoberfest - Stay was fine. Room was ok. Cold, stark and old. Had no issues w/cleanliness. I would suggest a rug in the rooms. They are tiled floors, cold and the room echo's. I know rugs would be hard to keep clean, but I think it would make it warmer, homier.
- Companion277736 (10/5): Octoberfest Visit - Staff were very friendly and responsive to our needs. Our riverfront room was nice and spacious. Our view of the river was beautiful and peaceful. We would definitely stay here again.
- G9410LUstevew (10/5): Oktoberfest 2025 - We had a wonderful three night stay. Definitely will be going back. This was our second visit. Upstairs room with beautiful river view.
- X8987KNdonnam (10/5): Great location, clean and friendly staff - Our visit to Helen was a very positive experience. We will definitely be back and hope to stay at the Helendorf again. The convince of being in the middle of activities, walking distance to the shops and restaurants, and having a balcony overlooking the river was all of the perks! Very clean room, the continental breakfast, very friendly staff made the stay even more enjoyable.
I will add that it's possible to eavesdrop on the next-door guests' conversations..... but it wasn't an issue for us as we didn't spend much time in the room; we were enjoying being in the mountains and soaking up all of that beauty!
- GoPlaces60627429833 (10/5): Helendorf Oktoberfest 2025 - Great as always. We've stayed at the Helendorf for many years during October and have enjoyed our stay every time. Wonderful accommodations and location. I look forward to this Fall get away each year with the Helendorf.
- 838charless (10/5): Weve have stayed here for the at least 15 years. Very convenient to downtown Helen. - Lisa and Daniel were very pleasant and personable, totally enjoyed the interaction with them. They made our stay more pleasurable. Our housekeeper did a very good job. The maintenance man fixed a faulty receptable in our bathroom.
- angiesY2065ZE (10/5): Best place to stay in Helen! - We throughly enjoyed our stay at Helendorf! Excellent customer service, I liked that they used text messages and responded promptly. The room was huge and the bed was so comfy! You can’t beat the view and the sound of the river. We highly recommend and it will be visiting again!
- Z5120SVcheryll (10/5): Great stay - Great location, best for walking for Oktoberfest. Staff very friendly and light breakfast was good. No housekeeping but staff replenished towels on request. Cute hotel.

- kcabstance (10/5): 7 years! - This was our groups 7th year staying at the Helendorf for Oktoberfest. Always a pleasure! We couldn't ask for better staff!
- 616royp (10/5): A nice stay with a great location - We had a great stay. Even though it's an older hotel, the room was clean, comfortable and best of all, the location was perfect. Our room looked over the river and we enjoyed having coffee on the balcony. We could walk to pretty much to everything that Helen has to offer. The continental breakfast is bare bones but we enjoyed going out for brunch instead. If we return to Helen, we would stay there again.
- Y9271LHkeitht (10/5): Octoberfest at its best! - What a great place. Room was spacious and clean; the staff was top notch. The view from our balcony overlooking the river was better than we had expected. Will recommend to all of our friends and family. Looking to coming back in the near future.
