Guest Reviews
- Martina (10/5): - Tolle Atmosphäre, sehr nette Gastgeber, wunderschönes Haus, sehr gute Lage, schöner Garten und viel Ruhe, bequemes Bett -
- Josefine (10/5): -
- Orestis (8/5): Good period place to stay in Knysna - Very good breakfast. Beautiful environment and setting, period architecture. Our room was very comfortable. As in many places in South Africa, no blind curtains, which means light comes in the room. Also, no buzzer or ring, so try to call before you arrive to make sure the owner can open the gate, otherwise you’ll end up shouting (public disturbance) or walking around the block (pointless) as we did.
- Leon Haupt (10/5): -
- Rolland (10/5): - Beautiful guest house surrounded by the most amazing garden. My room was very comfortable and had everything I needed. The breakfast was excellent with a lovely variety of cereals, fruit and meat to choose from. Very nice atmosphere all around, the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend this place, I will definitely be coming back.
Zeer gedateerd.
- DEBBIE (10/5): Perfect place in Knysna❤️ - Ana and Ernest were fantastic hosts. They would see to our individual needs. I appreciated that. Beautiful place in a beautiful Town. Nothing to complain about.
- Aliveriy (10/5): Lovely and comfortable stay. - Lovely and comfortable stay.
Excellent breakfast, host was lovely and very accommodating.
Wonderful staff.
Would definitely visit again!

- Ernst Josef (9/5): Sehr liebenswerte Gastgeberin -
- Brith Christin (9/5): -
- Juergen (6/5): - Besitzer sehr freundlich.
- Finch (10/5): An excellent stay - Very warm welcome by the host. The room was ample and charming with a lovely balcony looking to the lagoon. The location was perfect very central still so private with magnificent gardens and breakfast was excellent. Nothing, everything was perfect and lovely.
O piso do quarto é carpete.
- David (9/5): Older but full of character and amazing hosts. - We truly enjoyed our stay! The location is central and easy to reach. The building is older, tastefully furnished, and full of character. The garden is gorgeous – just like the wonderful hosts. We received many valuable travel tips and even had the chance to return the favor with a restaurant recommendation for our hostess. Of course, one should not expect a top-modern, minimalist B&B or the Ritz here. But any small imperfections (such as slightly older bathrooms) are more than made up for by the owners’ kindness and warm hospitality. Many thanks and warm greetings from Germany!
- Masoodah (10/5): - vintage furniture, decor & cosy , breakfast was also yummy. Elderly couple but there are just the sweetest

- Olivia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (7/5): Good - Very friendly Swedish hostess.
Very approchable & very helpful The sheet🙁…
Although the bed was confortable , the night was somehow unpleasant & sticky because of polyester sheet …
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Allistair (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sven (9/5): Fantastic house and garden - Nice place with a lot of atmosphere. The room was nice with the balcony. The pool was nice. The garden was fantastic.
Anna, the owner was very friendly and we got many good advices from her. The view was blocked by a tyre workshop. It looked fairly recent. During working hours it was quite noisy and took away a bit of the relaxed atmosphere from this beautiful house and garden.
- Angela (8/5): Very good -
- Gail (9/5): Bright, airy, clean rooms and great breakfast - The rooms were large and bright with a huge private deck overlooking the ocean. The staff was friendly and accommodating. It is a bit difficult to walk to the centre/waterfront because the terrain is quite steep. Walking down would be fine but coming back up is hard.
- Debbie (10/5): Best place in Kysna - I loved the view from my room looking out over the lagoon. Our room was spacious and very neat. Ana and Ernest were very friendly and accommodating in every way. This photo is the view from our room.
Thanks Ana and Ernest❤️ Bathroom was bit tiny but still neat.
- Maria (9/5): Very enjoyable - Very friendly owners, very attentive.
Very conveniently located
- Paul (9/5): Wonderful - Excellent friendly , knowledgeable owner management The water system functions perfectly, but it is from my parents era and fortunately I know how to work it. Water can come through extremely hot, so supervision & care has to be taken with children.
- Andries (10/5): Exceptional - It was a perfect stay. Our hosts were welcoming, informative, courteous and very friendly.
The accommodation was 100% suited to our needs.
The gardens were a delight with countless blooms and we enjoyed the swimming pool.
The location perfect for exploring Knysna by car or by foot. I can't think of anything.
- Finch (10/5): Lovely stay - Very warm welcome from the hosts.
It was very relaxing, sitting in the balcony overlooking the beautiful garden. Breakfast was delightful and staff were very friendly.
- PeteMoo (8/5): A pleasant stay - A quaint, older guesthouse on the edge of town. The rooms are fairly basic but have everything you need. The hosts are charming and were very helpful with our travel plans, allowing us to return to the hotel to shower and change after check-out.
- Danie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (10/5): Yellow wood Lodge was great! - Anna, our host, was so warm and welcoming! The lodge was spotless. Comfortable room and great breakfast included. Nothing
- Fynn (10/5): It was a beautiful day, hosts were lovely and the place is very well situated. Lovely stay! - The breakfast was delicious, really well served, had a variety of options and was willing to accommodate a gluten-free requirement. The garden is lovely, filled with beautiful flowers and full of nature and the soft sounds of birds. It was very peaceful and so close to the main mall. The hosts were super accommodating and very helpful.
- Anila (7/5): Good -
- Itumeleng (8/5): I really loved the host, location and just staying there - breakfast was always on point and on time.
the host is very very loving, we felt like we are just home with family, they were good grandparents to us, when you need some information they will assist very fast.
and they had a great hot water system the rooms needs a fridge and air conditioner
- Nancy (8/5): Very good - Breakfast can be improved .. .
- Grimildo (10/5): Exceptional - The views, staff always there for you 24/7 and the breakfast every morning with music that lightens up the mood every morning.
- Zeenat (4/5): Disappointing - The room was very old. Very minimal furniture..just a room and bathroom basically. The beds were not comfy. We left a night early as we felt the owner watching us constantly. Parking was also not great.
- Alice (10/5): We were very well received and we felt at home! We love - We took the room overlooking the lake. Very spacious and comfortable
(10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were very welcoming and nice!
The location of the lodge is very central.
- paul (10/5): - very nice, quiet property, good br4eakfast, shower a little antiquated
- Jobo (10/5): Enjoy our stay every thing was of the utmost best7 -
- Rosemary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shannon (10/5): Very comfortable stay with such accommodating hosts - We spent the weekend here for the Knysna Forest Marathon. The accommodation was perfectly located for the race pack collection and finish of the race
- Beth (9/5): Superb -
- Huw (8/5): Easy to find and a comfortable stop on a longer journey. - Switched to a larger room on arrival which had good views. Good location for nearby harbour restaurants and excellent breakfast. Bathroom could be a little more modern.
- Jennifer (8/5): It was quite a bit more expensive than the last time we stayed there. - Very good breakfast
- Alexandra (8/5): Very good -
- Louise (10/5): Clean, comfortable and convenient - Attractive, spacious room in pretty gardens. Ernest was very welcoming. It is an easy walk to shops, restaurants and the island during the day. Nothing
- Vivian (8/5): a very nice stay in Knysna - our host- Ana
- Mduduzi (6/5): Pleasant -
- Eagleswings (10/5): The most memorable trip and meeting Ana left a feeling hope .THIS is Priceless - Everything... The Hosts and how she took care too attention to Detail.Their calm way and spirit of making us feel welcome, it was not complicated and it just felt very relaxed. We so appreciated everything. They meeting our expectations far and above..
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fredrik (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eric (9/5): Superb -
- Kerri (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): The owners and staff were very efficient and friendly. The B&B is very well run and garden, pool -
- Sara (10/5): Friendly, lovely experience, great pool, worth the stay. - Great service, friendly staff and host. Lovely area with nature, well kept gardens, and stunning fauna. Nice for bird watchers.
- Elsabev_11 (4/5): Consider the staircase, very difficult to navigate plus no help with luggage - Great location but very, very steep staircase and no help with suitcases in spite of staff witnessing how we struggled. You need both hands to hold on the the steep staircase.
Had to leave without breakfast as it is only served from 8am
Won't return as the access is impossible when allocated a room upstairs. Double beds quality poor, was so soft we had to move mattress on floor to sleep!
- Michelle (8/5): Very good -
- Susan (9/5): it was lovely, would love to stay again. Gorgeous setting and breakfast. - walkable to town and water front. Quiet spot. very helpful staff The shower, the curtain space too small. Small roof leak at the foot of the bed.
- Robin (10/5): Comfortable stay in charming lodge - The lodge is nestled in very well maintained gardens, filled with flowers and nice trees. Most rooms come with a balcony which is perfect to relax. The owners were very welcoming and a fascinating couple. The pool, although small, is perfect to wind down after a hiking day. The breakfast was very good and served on a beautiful deck, outside where we could hear birds. A very nice stay in a clean, welcoming and comfortable lodge, very close to town. One minor improvement is to provide an iron as none was available when we requested one. Although the owner said they usually have an ironing service, I think an iron should be made available at anytime, for guest's use. No one likes a creased shirt.
- Glen (6/5): Pleasant - Staff were very regimented, Lacked warmth, no TV channels, bathroom very restrictive, no iption to have room serviced or not, asked for freezer space was such an effort.
Not a great experienced
- Graham (9/5): thoroughly enjoyed our stay staff and hosts were lovely - was close to all facilities and had parking
- Markus (7/5): Good - Anna and her husband are very friendly and made sure we had a good time during our stay. Get constantly kicked out of the house's WiFi, which is a bit annoying when you are just planning your next few days.
- Zikho (7/5): Good - The quietness and the atmosphere of the place. The fact that it is central to all amenities. Loved the pool and spacious rooms and the staff was very welcoming I would suggest that you notify people inadvance that there are no microwaves and irons in the rooms.
- Thembi (8/5): Very good - Beautiful and very neat Lodge. The lady of the house was just too sweet. Our room was inside the house and the stairs to our room were too steep, one wrong step you'd break a neck, lol. Wish I'd known before booking about the stairs, just imagine if I had brought an elderly person.
I also didn't like their hot water system, while in the shower the water became cold and hot again.
I never think of traveling with an iron because I know every lodge have a laundry room or service, this one does have but they said they can't help us with an iron because of too much laundry they have. Was so disappointing.
- Thomas (6/5): Pleasant - Nice place to stay and central to all locations. We had booking for 3 rooms. 2 off family members couldn't travel having fallen sick. Enquired if refund can be provided for one room that was not used for 4 nights at the time of check-in. Couple declined mentioned it was too late. Not sure what was the cancellation policy, I thought it was allowed.
- Stanley (8/5): Very good -
- Johannes (5/5): Passable -
- Catherine (6/5): A bit disappointing - Friendly hosts We were not aware that there was no back up power during load shedding (which we had the whole evening as well as the next morning). The house is more dated than what the pictures showed, with the narrowest staircase, making it challenging to get the luggage upstairs. Breakfast was from 8-9 am, which was too late for us as we had to travel the next day, we had to leave without as much as a cup of coffee.
- Siphokazi (10/5): Exceptional - Rooms where big enough and neat, the yard it's so nice and beautiful There was no iron in the room and not allowed to iron on there, no microwave
- Nico (8/5): Pretty old building, beautiful antiques, pleasurable stay. - Location is superb and serving breakfast on the patio overlooking the pretty garden very special. Parking convenient and secure. Group's rooms not allocated despite rooming list which was sent through ahead of time. Some room kettles very old which should be an easy and cheap fix?
- Hannah (9/5): Superb - Anna and Eric were so lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The house and views are beautiful and it’s in an excellent location.
- LauraduToit75015 (2/5): Beautiful town, DECIEVING accomodation - Very decieved by the experience: concerning our room, the cushions were not clean, the shower and shower curtain were not practical AT ALL. Concerning the lodge itself, we could clearly hear the noise from the road and the breakfast was quite decieving, we had to ask for toast repeatedly that they would bring, toast by toast, one by one, at their very own speed...
Quite unpleasant owner to finish off. It's a pitty because the town of Knysna itself is so very pleasant. So definitly would not recommend if you want to enjoy your stay in Knysna!
- Petrusa (10/5): We had a lovely, peaceful stay in a beautiful old house. - The Guesthouse is in a beautiful house that was carefully restored and furnished by the host/owner. We had a lovely breakfast, received excellent hospitality. This was really value for money and I highly recommend Yellowwood Lodge. Nothing
- ericr810 (2/5): Bad choice - The main house is beautiful but the rooms are not very nice and the owner is not pleasant. He seems to be watching you all the time. Finally, his dog at the back of the house barks regularly.
So this is not an address to recommend. It was a bad choice.
- Luke (10/5): - Cute historic cottage near town center.
It's obviously family-owned and operated. The owner is always around and will greet you and be there for whatever you need. No corporate vibe at all. Our room was nice with a little kitchenette and balcony. The grounds are lovely and well taken care of. The lodge is walking distance to the main town center and waterfront.
Enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend!
- holidayRH (8/5): Old charm - Main reception house is built on an old charming structure and character in 19th century.
Location: not far and in walking distance to main lagoon
Situated: in quiet cul-de-sac street
Service: friendly service by Adnes.
Rooms: old charm decor and furniture with a need for some maintenance and upkeep to maintain it's character and bathroom .
Breakfast: delicious served by orders on the veranda.
Amenities: basic amenities , tea, coffee, milk, sugar, fridge, WiFi , shower in bath, pool area at back of main house.
Special features: Lovely garden and tranquility setting .
There is a stand alone fan and fin heater.
No other TV channels except for SABC1,2,3 and E- TV.
- Supa7WPSA (6/5): Visiting Uk friends - Have been using Yellowwood Lodge for over 6 years and although Ernest keeps the place going , it is in need of some TLC as the guest rooms especially those on the outside area need attention. He still has an excellent breakfast
- hofbauer77 (10/5): Very nice villa - Such a beautiful villa in the Centre of knysna!
Big rooms with balcony!
Great breakfast and a lovely owner in long tradition!
Only 800 meters to waterfront and 1,5 km to these island!
To spar shopping center 400 meters!
- 694siobhano (4/5): Very basic accommodation - Disappointed with this accommodation. Rooms and en suite very old fashioned. I understand that it’s an old house but I think it needs to be modern inside. We had no water on our 2nd night and the host gave each room 5 litres to wash, shower, make tea or coffee, wash your teeth etc. They rightly ask you to conserve water, which we always do anyway but in the bathroom there’s a sign to say turn the hot tap up to the highest and then turn on the cold as desired to shower!!
