Guest Reviews
- Tomasz (10/5): I recommend - Charming Castle
- Ralph (8/5): - zeer mooie accommodatie
- David (10/5): - Hard to beat sleeping in a medieval castle with modern amenities
- M.B.J. (10/5): - Unique original medieval castle with modern new rooms. Sufficient parking, friendly staff, good breakfast buffet. On wednesday evenings the possibility for having dinner in Thurnau are limited, some restaurants were closed. The hotel does not offer dinner
- Laetitia (10/5): Ravie ! - Très bel endroit avec beaucoup de cachet !
Personnel très sympathique
Chambre petite mais confortable et propre.
Petit déjeuner ultra varié.
Je recommande !
- Christian Martin (10/5): - Sehr schöne Location. Tolles Zimmer und schnelles Internet. Für Tagungen super
- Ismenia (8/5): - Very beautiful location in astonishing condition. The room was a bit tiny but that’s not a problem. We were missing some stylish decor, the room seemed more like convent than castle. The black stains in the shower were a bit disappointing. The internet connection was great, nothing to complain about. The breakfast was almost complete, but some more personal attention would have been nice instead of leaving the guests on their own. In total this was a nice place, but I would prefer, even to pay a little bit more to get the little extra in comfort and style, like minibar, water kettle for coffee or tea.
- soeren (8/5): - Noisy constructions. No staff available for service like ice. Otherwise, beatiful and great valmue for money
- Malene (10/5): - Skøn overnatning i en smuk by. Helt nyrenoveret og meget høfligt personale
- Renate (6/5): Heruntergekommen - Das Zimmer war okay, das Bad unterirdisch. Die Duschkabine fiel fast auseinander. Alles uralt und verdreckt.4 Sterne? Niemals!
- Holger (8/5): Schöne Burg in toller Lage - Die Burg ist toll! Wer so etwas mag, muss dort schlafen.
- Daniel (10/5): - Had a fabulous stay
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It’s a hotel. We arrived on time on 12/30 (about 5:30pm). Nobody was at the front desk. Nobody-not a clerk, not a bell service person, nobody. Finally the chef in the kitchen came out after repeatedly calling on the desk phone for service. The room had no towels, no water, no soap. Back to the front desk we went...they changed the room. The new room had no heat. This is the day before New Year’s Eve...we wanted dinner in their fine restaurant. The restaurant was closed because the cook staff was preparing for New Year’s Eve day. Closed. No room in the oven for our dinner...and the 4 local restaurants were closed except for an Italian restaurant. We didn’t want Italian food. Back to the front desk...nobody there...called again on the desk phone. Somebody answered...They then said that we could drive to the nearest town (15 kilometer) where there are plenty of restaurants but gave us no names, no directions...nothing. Wonderful. Outrageous! If you choose to go here-don’t...the non service will ruin your stay even though the small town of Thurnau and the castle are picturesque and beautiful It’s a hotel.
- Michael (6/5): Great Atmosphere, service needs improvement. - The atmosphere in the Schloss is great, but the service needs improvement. The front desk was abandoned most of the time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Schönes ambiente, ruhig gelegen. Erholsames Umfeld.
- Joseph (8/5): - The building and facilities were impressive as was the cost. The breakfast was somwhat lacking but the dinner was great. The room was on the small side. I woudl stay there again for a short stay only.
- Petri (8/5): Charming hotel and town - Very good location with 20 minutes drive to Festspielehaus in Bayreuth. The service by the staff was very attentative and caring. The castle and surrounding town are charming. Only minus points go to renovation works that started each morning at 7 am (should be finished with by the 17th of August) and for town restaurants for all being closed on Tuesday lunchtime
- Verified traveler (8/5): Charming castle hotel - handy for Bayreuth - I stayed here because it's very convenient for the Bayreuth Festival - an easy 22-25 minute drive away. This castle hotel is charming with a lovely atmosphere and real atmosphere - there's even a beautiful lake with swans next to it. The staff were all friendly, the breakfast was good quality and the free WIFI was fast and reliable. There was also a large (free of charge) car park, which was ideal. My room was on the 2nd floor and there was no lift - it wasn't a problem for me, as I'm relatively young but could be harder for older people or those with heavy luggage. The room was basic, medium-sized and clean. The room and bathroom could do with some modernizing but were pleasant enough for a short stay. It's a real shame there is no airconditioning - under the circumstances perhaps the hotel could provide fans in the rooms? The church bells in the village ring every 15 minutes all through the night (not the hotel's fault, obviously!) which take some getting used to. But I had a very nice stay and would definitely come back here again in the future
- William (8/5): Simply romantic - Very romantic setting. Castle and quaint village. Excellent restaurant and breakfast. Very nice facilities for a conference. Industrial grade elevator.
- Houssam (10/5): - Fntastic hotel in a great location
- Paul (10/5): Incredible place awesome - The history of these places is out of this world loved this place
Rekommenderas varmt.
- Nancy (8/5): - Hotel is a castle so fun to sit in the courtyard surrounded by years of history. Room is comfortable. Breakfast is delicious. Dinner is okay but dishes are too salty. Staff is friendly. A good experience.
- Barry (6/5): Not a castle to stay in. - We thought staying in a real castle would be a fun experience. When we arrived about 5:30 pm reception was closed. A note on the door said to call for info on how to get in. Call didn’t go through. Only because someone who had already checked in with great difficulty came were we able to get into a locked box to retrieve our key. The castle was neat from outside but interior and rooms were most ordinary The cleanliness was not up to standard. Breakfast was also so so and containers were sticky. I would pass on staying at this castle.
- Joao (8/5): Staying in a castle - Very interesting hotel allowing us to stay in an old castle. The staff was very friendly and the food was good. Just 20 minutes away from Bayreuth were we went to an opera.
- Elisabeth (10/5): An enjoyable stay - The old castle is undergoing restoration which must be a massive and expensive operation given that it was constructed over a number of centuries. Staying in a castle is a treat even if the rooms are comfortably modern and the white painted walls and new floors aren't quite what one expects--very fresh and open feeling rather than closed in and dark. From the outside it's everything it should be with old stone walls, a massive gate and a cobbled courtyard. The views are lovely and we constantly stopped and gazed out the windows at the town rooftops as we walked along the wide corridor to the stairs. Keep in mind there is no lift. We only stayed overnight so decided to take up what was needed and leave our suitcases in the rental car.
A stroll around the town and also around the small lake near the Schloss, is very pleasant. The breakfast was good and parking is just outside the main gate. The hotel restaurant was closed but there are a few other places to eat in easy walking distance.
- Keith (10/5): Historic castle. - Historic castle in the middle of town.
Good for walking and places to eat and drink.
- peeter (8/5): Real castle! wow! - After a bit complicated entrance everything was very excellent! They close doors in some point, so when late, you will get the needed info by phone and you will get the keys from small box....in case your phose works, of course! Mine did not! But: the castle is very brilliant, that is probably closest thing for me feeling like princess:) Breakfast was very tasty and looked good. Some places nearby to eat and nice landscapes... so it was a great stay!
- Margit (10/5): - The castle was awesome.
- Randy (8/5): - Staying in a castle! What more needs to be said?! The rooms were just "ok" though.
- Orvel (10/5): Beautiful place to stay !! - Fantastic schloss
