Guest Reviews
- Richard (10/5): - Our host was very welcoming. we’d had really good communication prior to coming and so the dietary needs of my daughters were well catered for. Breakfast was delicious with lovely thick Greek yogurt and fresh fruit and warm flaky croissants.
Would definitely stay again.
- Kevin (10/5): - A highly recommended hotel, we loved our stay and will, hopefully, be back in the New Year.
- Andrew (10/5): - Lovely rooms
- STEWART (10/5): Really lovely - The room was lovely-much better than I’d expected. The staff were very friendly. We had an evening meal and although the menu range was quite limited, I still had trouble choosing and what you are eventually served with is high quality and presented really carefully. The only blot on the copybook was that my Mum, who I was sharing with, was the first to use the toilet and on lifting the lid was greeted by a bowl full of pungent waste. Other than that this was a lovely place to locate ourselves for access to Oulton Park
- Gerard (8/5): - Yes all good
- Anthony (10/5): - Nice spacious rooms and friendly, helpful staf
- Michael (10/5): - Spacious clean room, plenty of parking, food great and staff very helpful and friendly.
- Jason (10/5): - Really helpful and pleasant staff. Menu is a bit basic but food was superb. Room was spotless and parking no problem.
- Ian (10/5): - A friendly welcome, Room was spotless, well decorated with a very comfortable bed. Great meal in a lovely pub environment served by attentive staff. If I could give it 6 stars out of 5 I would. Can't wait for an excuse to go again
- Judith (10/5): - We stayed at The Royal Oak to celebrate our wedding

Loveley pub downstairs, the food was spectacular, and the wines. I can not recommend enough, we really hope to be back. Fabulous weekend, thankyou Royal Oak and Richard
- Sonya (10/5): - Loved the place. Staff are so friendly and make you feel at home. Beautiful big bedrooms with comfortable beds.
- Steve (8/5): A Royal stop over. - Easy to find, good parking facilities ad excellent host.
- Dean (8/5): - Hotel is ok , toilet hadn't been checked as there was excitement left in it ! The evening before we was Promised by one member of staff we could have breakfast early as us and others had to be off early to be told in the morning no cooked breakfast till later ! Don't promise if you can't deliver .
- Eileen (8/5): - The hotel was perfect for what we wanted ie: to have somewhere to stay near our son. Unfortunately the people in the next room were having a party until 1.30am and had the tv on until 2am. We could hear everything, conversations and the programme on the tv. We were unable to sleep. This is not the hotel’s fault but it did spoil our stay. We will stay again and hope other guests will be more considerate next time.
- martin (10/5): - Excellent all round. Staff very professional and friendly. Easy comprehansive check in. Clean and comfortable. Excellent food.
- Pat (10/5): - We stayed only 1 x night and couldn't be happier. The room was very comfortable and appointed. Dinner was delicious with a good choice on the menu, and there was a really nice atmosphere in the pub, which had outside dining available too. The owners were very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely old building, spacious rooms - Room was lovely, spacious , bathroom was spacious and clean. Shower was great. Building is really old so big high ceilings old windows etc . Would definitely stay again.
We had breakfast which was great apart from our toast arrived some time after breakfast, seems a bit petty but they weren’t busy and a really simple fix, they also only brought white so I had to go and find someone for some brown. However, the breakfast was nice.
- Violet (10/5): Wonderful weekend - A lovely 2 night stay. The Royal Oak had everything we needed. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and airy. We appreciated the quiet room as we had early starts at the nearby Oulton Park race circuit.
Lovely garden areas too and welcoming and helpful manager.
We will make this our hotel of choice when in the area.
- Jenni (10/5): Great trip - We had a great overnight stay staff went above and beyond they were really friendly and kind.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great staff, rooms and service - Brilliant place: really friendly staff, generously sized room, excellent breakfast. They even accommodated us for an early breakfast on Saturday morning as we wanted to be off early. Would definitely book again. A place with a personal touch.
- Steven (10/5): - Great location and wonderful food. The rooms are splendid. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
- Charles (10/5): Fabulous stay and a hidden gem of a hotel!! - Absolutely amazing stay. Definitely one of the best hotels we have been to. The exterior hides an absolute gem of a hotel. Inside the restaurant was amazing and food was not only fantastic but ample in quantity. The bar and dining area was fabulous ... Especially the round table room which anyone staying must look at. We had intended to dine in Chester but after having lunch decided to have dinner there instead and was not disappointed. The breakfast again was out of this world and for less than a tenner each. just amazing!! Every single member of staff were super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and had a fabulous night's sleep. We have stayed in numerous hotels and this has to be one of the best. We shall certainly return.
- Guy (10/5): The perfect evening - We were made to feel welcome from the very moment we arrived… we were escorted up to our room, which was lovely, then given all the information regarding restaurant and bar times. We went back down to the bar where we were given a very cosy little snug area! The bar staff and restaurant staff were just amazing! They made me and my partner feel like we were the only folk in the place despite it being busy! They’d got banter too, which is never a bad trait to have in a pub! Food was fantastic and I can say, hand on heart, the Bakewell pudding was the best dessert I’d had in my entire 52 years on this earth! Wholly recommend and will most definitely be returning! 10/10 for me and the Mrs ✅
- Mary (10/5): - Fab manager who couldn't do enough to help me feel at home. Amazing huge room. Cosy restaurant with great value tasty food. Great place to stay.

- Muhammad (10/5): - Very friendly staff.
- Paul (10/5): Great place to stay - Everything was great, good food, excellent service, friendly and helpful host and great room. One suggestion.. too much nighttime light in the bedroom from emergency exit sign and outside security light both ver bright and on all night.

- Howard (10/5): A gem of a hotel - Excellent location, staff, food, service - could bot have been better
- Katharina (10/5): - The staff were absolutely fantastic, and made the stay thoroughly enjoyable. The rooms were comfy and had a lovely cosy feel. The restaurant downstairs served home made foods which meant we didn’t have to wander far to eat after our night out. All in all it was a lovely stay and I would come here again.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hotel. Friendly staff
- Peter (8/5): Another stay at The Royal Oak - Another stay at Royal Oak, only people staying there that night due Covid i assume. However, we were put in the front room which had a light on outside ALL night!!! Black out curtains need to be fitted as it looked like daylight all night
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We frequently have to travel and stay in hotels through our work so our standards are high. This was a great stay. Booked really last minute for 1 night to allow a visit to a family member. In advance of the stay, reception was very responsive when I had a query. When we arrived we were checked in quickly and escorted up to our room. The room was large, bright and well decorated. The bathroom was modern. Breakfast the next morning was very good. Overall an excellent stay!

Wonderfully freshly prepared food and served at a lovely hot temperature.
We’ve stayed in many hotels around the world and no one compares to the friendly, attentive and welcoming staff of the Royal Oak in Kelsall.
Our room was spacious, clean and and tastefully furnished.
Would love to stay again, but also happy to travel the distance for either lunch or dinner.
- joseph (10/5): Excellent for walking - Very good hotel friendly service
- Peter (8/5): Very good service, food/breakfast excellent!!! - Booked hotel to visit family who live in Kelsall, yes hotel is in Kelsall and not Tarporley as the Hotel.com website states.
Very nice pub/hotel, the breakfast is excellent, food in the restaurant is very good. Although a pub the bar doesn't stay open late. In fact the last Holiday Inn Express had a bar that stayed open later!!!!!
Staff excellent, friendly and great service, always happy to help
Room 204 very low ceilings and being over 6ft had to duck a few times as it is up in the roof space and the rafters are too low..
