Guest Reviews
- Smaranda (10/5): What a stunning location! - We had such a wonderful stay at this beautiful property - we completely fell in love with it. We stayed in the Applecroft apartment, which was incredibly spacious, cosy, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we could possibly need. It was also spotlessly clean, and the bed was unbelievably comfortable - we slept so well the entire time.
The hosts were absolutely delightful and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived.
We were also so impressed with how dog-friendly the property is. Our two dogs were made to feel just as welcome as we were, which made the stay even more special. Having our own private back garden was a real highlight, and we loved being able to explore the wider grounds and woodland walks straight from the doorstep.
We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and would return in a heartbeat. It was perfect!
- Richard (9/5): very nice, very chilled - very quiet, out of the way location, you need transport to go/do anything not much to mention
- Sarah (8/5): -
- Dean (10/5): Fantastic place to stay if your looking for a break in Devon - Beautiful setting with lovely facilities. Phil and Melanie are lovely hosts and extremely helpful when their needed. The grounds were brilliant to walk around and our daughter loved playing on the multiple springs.
- Emma (10/5): Beautiful , relaxing, peaceful and accommodating loved our stay. - The property was positioned in the most beautiful country setting was peaceful and tranquil. The loft house was so cosy with the most beautiful views. We had our own garden to sit out in as apart of the accommodation would definitely recommend Puddleduck Valley Melanie our host was so lovely and accommodating nothing was too much trouble.
Just what we needed an amazing relaxing break away from reality ♥️ Nothing was all absolutely perfect 👌

- Alison (10/5): Lovely peaceful location, warm welcome and nice touches. - We loved being so far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Peaceful location with space to breathe and reset.
Lovely space for our dogs.
Great to have hot tub , wood fired was really special . We did not dislike anything but a recommendation would be to either bring your own hot tub towels or a robe and slippers .
- Polly (10/5): - Phil and Melanie are brilliant hosts...warm, accommodating yet unobtrusive.
- dixon (9/5): Perfect, peaceful getaway, with very welcoming hosts. - The location of the property was very private, semi nestled in the woodlands! Fresh farm eggs and cake were left for our arrival, with the option to purchase various wines which were left in the property for us to peruse. Having a hot tub at the property, it would be handy to have a washing machine. The washing line was broken too, which made drying the towels a bit of a chore, but none of that spoilt our stay.

- Sarah (8/5): Relaxing countryside break - highly recommended - Beautiful location and, by car, easy to get to all the activities (Tamar Lakes water sports) and sites (Bude, Boscastle) we wanted to visit. Lovely apartment - Appleloft - bigger than we thought, spotlessly clean, well appointed with good quality appliances, well thought out, qaulity bed linen with super comfortable beds and sofas. We loved watching the birds at the bird feeder in the mornings, best view from a bathroom I have ever had :-) with fluffy towels and a good shower which is appreciated after long days out and about. We were pleasantly surprised by the allocated outside area for the apartment - we thought it would be a small bit of garden out the back for us, but it was a lovely space, with wonderful views of the woods - especially enjoyed with a morning cuppa before the day begins. It was quiet and peaceful, eventhough we knew other guests were staying in the other cottages from their cars, we would never otherwise have known! Had some lovely walks locally for our dog. I can't thank our hosts, Melanie and Phil, enough - Melanie was so welcoming after a horrendous drive from London. We had some hiccoughs with major delays getting there and a delivery - but she was so kind, eventhough clearly busy with other arrivals, it really made all the difference! There is nothing we didn't like.
- stephen (8/5): Loved it! - Lovely property excellent hosts. I had no trouble parking but I suspect an older/less expirienced driver may of struggled to turn round on narrow track at front of property. But a minor consideration and I would gladly go back again. Nothing stay was relaxing access to woods on doorstep and easy access to the sea.
- martin (8/5): -
- Sian (9/5): Lovely long weekend filled with peace and quiet. Nice welcome pack for our arrival. Helped with bags to accommodation. E - Tucked away and so peaceful
- Adele (10/5): Stunning property in the middle of the country side. Ideal late minute get away was just what was needed and this done j -
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adrian (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (10/5): The property was clean anything you needed was supplied good places to walk the dog - The hot tub and the area was lovely and quite Nothing all was good
- Oliver (10/5): Brilliant - Everything was fantastic Was all perfect
- Pippaknee (10/5): Beautiful setting. - Beautiful quiet location. Lovely cottage.
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional - Location & setting
- Faye (10/5): Exceptional - Pure nature and an escape. Felt like going back in time, didn't even want to look at my phone or watch tv, there was so much to enjoy. Long nature walks, hot tub, cost bed, stargazing. The owners were incredible. They took the time to make it special for me and my partner and even wrote out a hand written card for him to see. Lovely location, lovely people. Thanks again
- Moeka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Polly (9/5): Loved our stay at this property. Great location and surroundings - Compact but has everything you need. Very clean. Well equipped kitchen. Hot tub worked really well. The fridge is small for a family of 4.
- Adam (10/5): We stayed there over the Christmas period and enjoyed every minute there. Lovely little cottage we stayed in, and it was - Really beautiful location N/a
- Rosh (9/5): We had a great short 3 day stay -
- Sonya (8/5): Very good - The location was fantastic. Tucked away and very quiet. The property was spotlessly clean, and the bed was really comfortable. We paid the extra for the use of the hot tub, which was lovely. We really enjoyed being outside in the evening and listening to the sound of the owls hooting The only minor criticism would be that the sofa wasn't the most comfortable and the kitchen could have done with a couple more saucepans. Other than that, everything was great
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (10/5): Rural tranquillity - Such a beautiful place to stay, the location is hidden away in the countryside and was the perfect little retreat for our family. We we found the location perfect to radiate out to visit different beaches and sites in Devon and Cornwall and we came home to a little oasis of tranquillity. We found the house really well equipped (particularly the kitchen, which was small but had everything we needed to prepare meals) we also loved the private garden area to have barbecues and enjoyed the wood heated hot tub in the evening after a busy day! The hosts were so welcoming and friendly and they provided an excellent guide to the area inside the holiday house and little touches like a load of bread, milk and butter in the kitchen when we arrived was so thoughtful! I would highly recommend this location to couples or families looking to get away from it all and enjoy some peace! Nothing serious at all, everything was really well done! The only warning I would heed is that in the house we stayed in the children's room was in a sort of loft/roof space, the kids loved it because it was their own little hide away but the stairs up and down were quite steep and my youngest wasn't quite 3 at the time of travel. There are stair gates at the top and the bottom so we could easily secure it (so its safe) and my little one was actually fine scampering up and down the stairs, it was me that found it a bit tricker climbing up and down for bedtime stories and crawling in to make the beds in the morning etc. I wouldn't let it put you off though unless you have mobility issues. It's just something to have in consideration for younger families. For us it was a fun novelty and as I said the kids adored it.
- Nic (9/5): Relaxing, beautiful and very accommodating. - The location was stunning as was the accommodation. (Appleloft) was so cosy it had everything you needed and more .. the extra thoughtful essentials were a great touch. Lovely walks and even gifted local
Honey on leaving ! Thanks for a lovely couple nights away . Very accommodating for dogs too. They loved it ! The sofas weren’t the most comfortable.
- Mangirdas (10/5): Amazing! - Place was very nice, very cosy. Definitely use hot tub. Owner’s were very friendly. Just a nice place to be in.
- Antony (7/5): Relaxing week in a quiet Devon country side - Modern property in an relaxing rural setting. Great garden spaces and we loved the hot tub. Very dog friendly. Sleeping space better suited to younger children (not teens). No dvd player despite being advertised.
- Jordan (9/5): Superb -
- Nick (10/5): We had a lovely holiday with grandchildren aged 4 and 11. - Lovely location. Very friendly people. All good.
- Craig (9/5): Superb -
- Hannah (8/5): We had a lovely stay, the wood fired hot tub was amazing, beautiful surroundings. We booked last minute, with a dog and -
- Ei (6/5): Pleasant - Good for couples. Idyllic. Dog friendly but the lawn is communal and small so could be a bit challenging
- Marian (10/5): Roxana &Marian - It is an excellent location with a superb view. Also, a perfect host is willing to give you the necessary information about that area.
They waited for us with cake and fresh milk
We will definitely come back Everything was perfect
- Tracy (10/5): Beautiful and quiet - It was a beautiful and comfy stay, I should of checked where I had booked as there was a flight of stairs to reach our accomodation and being disabled made it a little challenging. We did like the help getting our cases up the stairs
- Sarah (7/5): Nice location. Would have been helpful to know more about rules for dogs before booking. - Location. Hot tub. Dog wash. Towels provided for wiping paws. Garden was nice and mostly enclosed but my dog did find a gap in the fence.
Owners were nice and friendly and helpful when we struggled with the wood fired hot tub! (A few more instructions about the tub would be good as it can get very hot and it’s a bit trial and error when it’s your first time using!) Described as pet friendly but pets not allowed anywhere other than the living room - and even then on the floor. Incredibly hard to enforce when the doors don’t shut (no door jams) so doors can just be pushed open by dogs.
Furniture not particularly comfortable and the place was smaller than I expected. Not really enough room to use the table without reorganising the sofas and chairs.
- Katharina (10/5): Exceptional - We had a wonderful time! The hosts have been extremely friendly and helped us with laundry and setting us up for a bbq. Our daughter loved meeting the goats and chickens and picking fresh eggs for breakfast!
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Helen (10/5): A lovely place to stay - We stayed in the appleloft which was spacious, very modern and very clean, a lovely place to stay Nothing we didnt like
- Barry (10/5): Great value for money - Beautiful view all the facilities you would need The hot tub takes a bit of work to get right
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional - The surrounding area. Nothing.
- Tomjennison (10/5): Was the perfect getaway! The hosts were very accommodating too! - We loved the whole design of
Buttermilk cottage. Specially the loft room for the kids. Plenty of books and toys for the kids to enjoy.
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (9/5): Superb -
- Ilaria (9/5): Superb - very nice cottage very confy and quite, everything looks new and so clean!
- Charley (10/5): Our stay at Puddleduck valley was excellent the hosts were lovely and made our stay so welcoming. Our cottage was fantas -
- Stephen (7/5): Good -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceed expectations, great property, location and amazing hosts. - Melanie and Phil were so welcoming on arrival and even went the extra mile with a delicious lemon drizzle cake, bread and milk to make us feel at home straightaway. We all loved spending time with the goats and chickens and the fresh eggs on a morning was a great way to start the day. The property and location was so relaxing and we are looking forward to staying again in the near future. Having to leave……
- Anne-marie (10/5): Beautiful and peaceful location with lovely hosts We loved our stay and did not want to leave - Myself and my daughters really enjoyed our stay. We stayed at Buttermilk Cottage which was lovely with lots of beautiful outside space. The bed in the master room was so comfy and there were lovely touches for the children including books and a dolls house in their room. A highlight for my younger daughter was the goats, chickens and cats. Melanie and Phil were so welcoming and took the time to let us know all about the animals. I was especially grateful to the host for being considerate to light the fire for us to use the hot tub after I had mentioned I struggled the first day (this was due to me not reading the instructions properly).
We had everything we needed and a really useful book which helped us find fantastic activities on a rainy day. Including beach recommendations and restaurants.
Another lovely gesture was on arrival it was a really kind to have milk, butter and a lovely cake too.
I could go on, a fantastic and restful stay! There was nothing we didn’t like. Only little observations were I couldn’t see an iron, may have just not seen it but would be great to have one. A smart TV would be great just to access Disney plus for instance for the children however we could have brought our firestick. There are lots of channels on the TV though.
- Iain (9/5): Superb - Lovely setting, clean and tidy, staff friendly and helpful. Everything was great nothing bad to mention

- Raj (9/5): Excellent cottage with everything you may need. Especially good for those with dogs - The adjacent woods, dog wash and general property size. Together with the enclosed garden and quiet location. Very friendly and helpful owners. The distance to coastal areas was at least 25 minutes, No pubs within easy walking distance. Parking and access maybe difficult for less abled people.

So close to Bude! thanks for the lovely cake ! Wish it had an extractor fan in the kitchen and a vacuum in the flat. would have happily vacuumed before leaving.Just used the brush and dust pan.
