- Midel (10/5): It’s nice and simple. Very clean. Not a far walk to restaurants. - The private onsen is reversed for an hour
- joanna (9/5): -

- Cornelia (10/5): Great stay would always come back - This is a very cute little guest house. The room was super cozy with a view on the lake. The host was very friendly. free bike rental was perfect. The showers were only available in the morning from 730 to 9. An evening shower would have been great
- KAIRUI (10/5): -
- Jesus (10/5): The owner was pleasant and very sweet. I want to come back. She made us feel super welcomed and at home. She went above - It’s beautiful. Along the lake. We walked and a got a clear view of Mt Fuji. I like the bath tub. It is shared. You can reserve a time a lot for a bath with your partner. You have to just sign up in the morning. She has 5 bikes up for grabs. Just politely ask her. She’s more than happy to loan them out to you. The bath tub are was HOOOTTT and it would melt any ache or pain you have. For those that haven’t been to a ryokan or onsen. It’s an experience. 10/10 recommend. If you are next to some stranger showering. It’s no big deal. There’s a sense of a meditative state. I stayed somewhere else it was very public. And it was my first time experience public showering. But it wasn’t bad once you take care of business. This location allows a reservation of time slot. If you’re shy. Highly recommend. Overall. I love this place. There is nothing to complain about. The experience was phenomenal.
- Ashish (9/5): Comfortable and good for big group. Close to lake and nearby restaurants. - Exactly opposite to Lake Yamanaka, big rooms. Can use the dining area up to midnight. Entering parking for big car is very difficult.

- Samara (8/5): Fantastic home away from home - The lady and her husband went above and beyond to support me with finding a bus to Kyoto. Even with language barrier they did more than they had to to help me and this was fantastic for a solo traveller.
I like that they lend the bike for free and that it’s really helpful as there’s a lot of traffic and not easy to walk at some parts of the road. The bath was nice.
Very clean and quiet place. I felt I was at my grandparents house and wanted to stay longer. All was great and exceeded expectations
- Jozina (9/5): Welcoming place on amazing location - The older couple was very welcoming and communicative. The rooms are traditional Japanese, and in winter there is the kotatsu to keep you warm. A nice experience. Amazing location on the lake near mount Fuji. We were lucky with clear sunny skies and we loved to bike around the lake on the free bikes. Good public bath for your private use, on reservation.
Highly recommended.

- Jun An Lau (7/5): - The room rate is affordable , very spacious , owner couple were very nice and helpful. Public bath have to book in advance for certain timing slot but you get to enjoy with your own people alone so it somehow become private bath. Location is also quite good , near to the lake and plenty of eateries ard like danny's. Room can be quite cold at night , owner gives is kerosine base heater so the room might smelled of kerosine after a while so I advice anyone stay there to leave the window opened up a bit for safety reason. First night owner let us use the big bathroom with big pool but second night they only allowed us to use another bathroom with smaller pool which we don't like it.
- Pasquale (8/5): - The owner were lovely and very helpfull, the private onsen is an amazing way to finish the day! Authenticn japanese experience!

- Lucas Ezequiel (10/5): Excelente hospedaje!

- Charlotte (9/5): A peaceful and wonderful spa retreat - Our family loved this guest house. The owners are very lovely and accommodating. The location is perfect, with Yamanaka Lake right on the door stop. This is a peaceful place and was a great retreat after we had climbed mount Fuji. The Onsen after this was perfect. There are many facilities at the guest house including a lovely snooker table and break out area. Massage chairs too which were great after our climb. Nothing.
Possibly the road into the guest house has a little bump which you had to be careful not to scrape the bottom of your car on.
- Jamaica (9/5): - Tranquility No breakfast available but there are a lot of restaurants nearby
- Donna (8/5): No frills accommodation in Convenient location - Location close to lake and walking distance to town; fantastic cedar onsen by reservation A bit dated interior
- Heung (9/5): Superb - The owner was very nice, location was also good with quite some restaurants nearby. There's only one bathroom available with onsen
- Thienan (10/5): Kind and accommodating staff - The lady who worked there was very kind and accommodating. Despite language barriers, she went above and beyond to help us. Plenty of bikes that could be borrowed for free and were very well kept and in excellent condition.
- Tomasz (10/5): Unique - The owner's lady is extremely charming Everything was fine
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - Extremely nice and helpful owners
- Tim (10/5): - Sehr nette Gastgeberin
- Chrizzle (10/5): Exceptional - I’d stay here again if I’m ever back in the area. The reserved onsen is wonderful and if you’re not comfortable going in public ones, this is a good way to try it. The place is just beautiful and close to Yamanakako Lake. It is also close to Mt Fuji that we were able to see it up close early in the morning. My friends had fun exploring using the bike. Don’t stay overnight, stay for at least 2 nights to enjoy and explore the area. A little far from convenience store but that’s okay.
- Daoduan (9/5): Superb - Great location, walkable to everything. There are plenty of activities and restaurants around Yamanaka lake. The staff are very responsive.
- Virginia (10/5): A lovely ryokan with wonderful baths! - The woman who greeted us was very polite and thorough in explaining the facilities and rules when we arrived, and immediately helped us schedule our time in the two different baths they had. Although my Japanese is not very good, she knew a bit of English and we used a translation app and there were no issues understanding beyond that. Both baths were absolutely wonderful. My spouse and I stayed in the traditional Japanese style room and I loved drinking my tea while sitting under the kotatsu! I only wish I had booked a longer stay!
- Nikki (10/5): Cozy stay in a traditional style Ryokan, with great staff and located right on Lake Yamanaka, with stunning views of Mt. - It was clean, comfortable and spacious, rooms get lots of natural sunlight too. The bath was so nice after a long day of hiking, and the property is conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants and a convenience store. The owners are also so incredibly kind and helpful. They saved me when I booked the wrong bus home, and called the station for me and got it fixed. Literally nothing I’d rate it 1000/10 if I could, I will definitely come back and tell my friends to visit.
- Alexis (8/5): Very good -
- Mar (8/5): Authentic and friendly - The owner made a great effort to help us send our luggage to Hakone. She was super nice although she didn't speak much English. Location not very well connected. Cold building but nice onsens (you need to book your time slot when you check in since both are small and private).
- Jonas (8/5): Very good - We had a lovely time at Kounso. The host is really friendly and even though she doesn't speak a lot of English we were able to communicate well. The rooms are lovely and comfortable. The onsen areas were nice and warm. Everything was really good. The only downsides were that we didn't know that we have to reserve our bus seats back to Shinjuku. But that was our fault. And I recommend to arrive with a rental car because when there is bad weather it's a bit difficult to get around by foot.
- Olga (9/5): Superb -
- Jan (10/5): Peaceful and lovely - I love my stay here! The female owner is very friendly and helpful despite the language barrier.
The futon is very comfortable, I was able to sleep comfortably. The room is Japanese style with tatami floor. I would definitely come back here just to relax.
The location is pretty much convenient, however, it was snowing and raining when I was here so dragging my carry on luggage was not that easy. It’s perfect for backpackers, solo traveler, or couples. It’s few minutes walk from the bus station going to Tokyo station or Shinjuku. The lady owner, can help you book for reservation for bus for Tokyo/Shinjuku. (Tokyo station has only two timings, Shinjuku is every hour). It’s near the lake but due to the weather, I didn’t get to see Mount Fuji.
There’s restaurants around the area. There’s a restaurant just down the hill of Kouso. The rest are around 500-700m far. The nearest 711 is 30 minutes walk.
It’s super clean!! You can only shower in the morning between 7:30-9:00pm. You can reserved a bath tho in the evening between 6pm-10pm. There’s no water heater outside of those timings. You will have your own private toilet tho.
Also, there’s no centralized heater (even in Tokyo and Kyoto I noticed they don’t use it). They use gas and kotatsu. It wasn’t a big deal for me because I just wanted the traditional experience.
These are the only cons you might wanna consider, however, my entire experience was lovely.
- Scott (8/5): Lovely - Great location, overseeing tranquil and beautiful surroundings.
The facility has five bicycles that can be utilised by asking the host.
Overall the lady who overseas the place is an utter delight and is extremely helpful.
Thank you
- Karley (10/5): Been travelling for 3 months and this place felt warm and like home -
- Choubey (9/5): Superb -
- Bonnie (7/5): Good - Spacious rooms, great location near lake (if you have a car), amazing onsen bath. Heaters iare unflued gas which is not good to breathe in.
- Nicolas (10/5): Exceptional - The owner is adorable and really available to make your trip as awesome as possible.
- Nino (10/5): Excellent stay for families - Everything was on top, thank you!
- Emily (5/5): Passable -
- Tommi (9/5): Great stay to experience Fuji by bike. - Excellent stay if you want to experience the lakes and Fuji and like biking. Also very flexible and friendly staff, own onsen when you need it, bikes for free to use, big rooms. No meal or breakfast service possibilities
- Galit (9/5): Superb -
- Joanthan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dalton (10/5): An amazing value ryokan that is worth going out of the way for. - Firstly the host. She is so friendly and welcoming despite not knowing much English. When you get settled into your room, she sits down with you to go over the amenities and things to do in the area. Love that. The Japanese style room with the tatami floors is a must at least once for your stay in Japan. It was actually more comfortable than expected. The bath was unbelievable. It was also an amazing value. 2 nights felt like the perfect amount. It was the perfect break after dealing with the chaos of Tokyo. If you’re booking this, then you should already know the Lake Yamanaka area is not the same as the Lake Kawaguchi area. Yamanaka is not as touristy and thus is bit harder to get to and has less to do. Renting a car to us was mandatory but cost was offset by how affordable our stay was. Why stay in some cramped hotel when you can have this experience? In closing, there really wasn’t anything we disliked but I understand some people may not like the remoteness.
- Tennebaum (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lukas (10/5): Exceptional - The lady who runs the place is very nice and accommodating, and both baths are lovely. The free rental bicycles are very convenient for getting around Yamanakako, especially to see the sunrise!
- David (9/5): the loveliest host (: - very welcoming, friendly host! she helped me make a reservation at 笑月, a great kaiseki restaurant close by.
spacious room, nice japanese bath and perfect starting point for a bike ride around the lake. rental bikes could be in better shape and i would have preferred a private toilet and shower, but it still was a really nice stay!
- Danor (9/5): Superb - The reception was very helpful. Basic facilities
- Jue (9/5): Superb -
- Matjaž (10/5): Exceptional - Location. Onsen. Bikes. Nice hosts. Above expectations.
- Gemini (5/5): Passable -
- Stephane (8/5): Great location and value - Great location and value. Privately available bath is really appreciated. Great place to visit the surrounding area, especially with a car. Room is spacious, clean and comfortable. Common areas have been neglected in recent years with a smell of humidity and would benefit from a refresh. It was not a deal breaker for us as room was clean however, and location is great.
- Keyvan (8/5): Very good -
- Ifat (9/5): The place is wonderful for a family, clean and comfortable. We all enjoyed the Onsen as well. - The host is wonderful and welcoming, the place is beautiful and clean
- Michal (10/5): Traditional Japanese accommodation - A real traditional accommodation with an onsen bath and futon beds. Great Japanese experience. Many restaurants in a walking distance. The owner is charming and helpful although she doesn’t speak English. I really recommend to anyone one who wants a traditional experience
- Emmanuelle (9/5): Superb -
- Donna (10/5): I will return & bring friends! …and a thermarest! - The staff is friendly and attentive to our needs. Very kind and welcoming! CLEAN ONSEN. Reservations for family Onsen times - tattoo friendly. Refrig and hot water kettle in room. Great location near the lake! Parking onsite. Free bikes available! I found a futon to be adequate but I truly wish I were carrying my thermarest for added thickness under the futon. I am in Japan, so It’s not fair that I would make negative comment regarding sleeping mats. Stains on chairs need attention.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elisa (6/5): Pleasant -
- Juan (8/5): Very good -
- Patrik (10/5): Exceptional - The room was very comfortable and also very clean. I appreciated that there was some little booklet with recommendations about where to get a nice view of Mt. Fuji, restaurants, etc. I also checked out one of the both spots and got a very nice view.
Bicycles are also provided, which are very convenient to get around here. I usually don't ride bicycles, but I loved doing it here in this area.
Being able to book the onsen for yourself, so you get about 1 hour to relax is also a very nice experience. I had some insect in my bed and one on the table right after checking in. Of course there are lot in the countryside, but maybe a fly screen would be nice to use for the rooms.
