Guest Reviews
- Mendez (1/5): -
- Sandy (9/5): The outside appearance is not what it is like inside, for the money it is a value, and quiet area. - I was at the end of hotel, and it was very quiet, bed was big and roomy. Room was comfortable except for heat, It was very hot in room and I could not get heat to turn down. Could not get heat to turn down. Minimal breakfast. A bough roll, and they did have hot coffee.
- Staci (6/5): - My husband got bitten last night.
Be was OK.
The Fridge wasn't Plugged in.
Bed light was Ok.
Water pressure good
- Sybil (8/5): - This is an older motel, but very nice. The room was small, but still had 2 beds, recliner, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffeemaker and hair dryer. We didn't expect these for the lower cost than the other motels in the area so we didn't use them. Access to check in and check out were a little more difficult than most, but it worked. Will stay again if in the area.
- Ed (1/5): I never even checked in!! - The place was a complete disaster!! I pulled in the drive, and pulled back out. I didn't even get out of my truck.
- Marci (8/5): - The owners Tina & Neal were wonderful!
Caring & helpful couple.
Older motel but clean & accommodating.
Nice stay!
- Pamela (10/5): Great - We stopped here for a night while traveling. The room was clean and easy check in. We like the open to the parking lot because we have a dog. You have to remember this is an older motel so the lighting is darker. We loved a TV that actually worked and we didn't have to mess with a dish.
- Tiffany (10/5): -
- Arthur (6/5): - PROS: Nice water pressure, air conditioner cooled the room, large room, comfortable chair & bed, nice people. Not terribly run down for its age but it is showing its age. I like easy access to the room.
CONS: Advertised breakfast was a joke. Luke warm coffee, packaged sweet bun, and orange drink. The air conditioner was very noisy which made sleeping difficult. The entry door I used had bird droppings on the handle. I would not expect the nest to be moved but I would have expected them to clean the handle and the pile on the step.
All-in-all their regular price is fair enough. I would not stay there at the holiday weekend rate again.
- Terry (6/5): - It was 9 miles to get food and 21 minutes from our destination
- Maria (4/5): Ehh - Staff was friendly and great price. Get what you pay for. Carpet was horrible very dirty and the room smelled due to it. Refrigerator was off and not working.
- Kent (1/5): Bad - Didn't eat breakfast That they let a sex offender stay there
- Bkyhaugstex (8/5): Older style modest motel - Good sized room, older style Motel. Clean, comfortable Facilities are somewhat dated, the bathroom sink leaked
- Cheryl (3/5): Poor -
- carlos (10/5): - El cuarto muy limpio y buen servicio lo recomiendo
- Danny (8/5): Good! - The room and the staff were great! The steps to the access door!
- Donna (10/5): - It was a great place to stay. They are very accommodating and very affordable and yes, I would stay here again.
- Jeff (1/5): Horrible - Nothing Was extremely filthy and outdated when reviews said it was recently updated but that was a lie. They also gave me double beds when I clearly said I wanted king and paid extra for it. I payed up front through booking.com for 3 days and I had to leave the property after one night because of bed bugs and paid 2 nights somewhere else after not getting any sleep. I’ve still not received my other 2 nights money back that I didn’t stay. Stay away from this property and stay away from booking.com.
- Hope (9/5): Cozy - Polite staff, clean rooms Nothing
- Eric (7/5): Good - Everything was really solid. Usually when you get a room that is "cheaper" than other hotels in the area the quality goes down. But not here. The Burr Oak was legit. I mean, don't expect the DoubleTree or anything, but it was better than I expected.
- David (8/5): - Room was clean and good. The weather was raining, so satellite TV didn’t work. Parking lot has some large pot holes. Breakfast was little Debbie danish and coffee.
- Ngigi (7/5): It’s a quiet place to relax the mind - It’s location and the environment It’s old, needs upgrading
- Beverley (8/5): - It was a very basic room. Air conditioner work on high only. Towels were old and dirty. Parking lot was a mess. All in all. It served our purpose for a one night sleep. But get breakfast somewhere else.
- Marlene (7/5): It was ok for one night. All the amenities and clean just a little on the old side. - Not much. Consisted of roll and coffee More items to choose from.
- Deborah (10/5): - The owner was very friendly and gave us good directions to the honor band concert. Nothing fancy but very comfortable. The towels and sheets were bright white and smelled fresh.
- Ann (6/5): - The manager and her husband are sweet and very helpful. The room is solid with a very comfortable bed, a fridge and a microwave. Good deal for the very good price.
- Wisty (10/5): - One of the best places we've stayed during the past 6 months of traveling the country. Now, it really depends on which building you stay in. We couldn't stay in the south building at all due to some water damage, but the staff was very kind despite our complaint and promptly put us in the north building in a lovely retro room. Completely quiet, large, comfortable and everything worked great. Actually incredibly rare features for cheaper places, about 100 hotels and none of them had all of those features. The only thing about this place is the north building didn't have outside doors to the room. Would probably stay longer next time.
- Jill (9/5): Superb - Location
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Dennis (5/5): Could use much updating. Beds were hard, pillows also and towels thin. Need more pillows. - There was coffee, that was about all. Mattress and pillows were old and hard. Bad nights sleep. Could not open windows and no air except for air conditioner and it was cold outside. Need fresh air. Rooms small and shower very small. Towels thin and scratchy. Don't think we would stay there again even tho outside town location good.
- Raul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ronald (8/5): Fine for me...no frills....older motel - Price was good....bed was comfortable... shower needed a lot of work...door would not close properly, etc.
- Rebecca (9/5): What you see is what you get. - Cold ac and shower nice bed comfortable. Friendly staff Pillows very lumpy. My floor a wrapper . Not though clean. Drive way holes everywhere.
- Sally (8/5): Very good -
- Mack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Place (10/5): Exceptional - The room was huge! Clean bedding and a recliner chair. The parking lot needs to be repaired.
- Mark (8/5): Very good - Motel is ‘dated’ but very clean, well taken care of ! It was a nice big room with a table, easy chair - plenty of room !!
Easily accessible off the highway- a short drive into town for anything /everything one might need
The check in was easy and where we met the very helpful manager! She made several suggestions for where to eat- we picked ‘the Cantina’ and were not disappointed!!
- Bernard (10/5): - convienient
- Janice (4/5): Disappointing -
- Wanda (8/5): Very good -
- Connie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brandon (5/5): Passable -
- Linda (9/5): Superb - Large room, good location, quiet, friendly staff No breakfast but did have a coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator in the room.
Air conditioner was VERY loud. It was hard to have a conversation with anyone.
- Lincoln (8/5): stayed while riding my bike across Iowa. - location, friendly no breakfast
- Catherine (4/5): - Lied about providing a breakfast
- Traci (8/5): - It was a nice clean friendly motel!! The only issue we had was no actual heat ,they had space heaters, and to request a different one cuz the one we had didn't work right!! But was pleased with price, and everything else!! Thank you !!!
- Gerald (10/5): - Location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice motel and very friendly. Not fancy but for the money it is perfect for someone just looking for a place to sleep. Fridge and microwave but no shampoo, conditioner, personal amenities. Also could use a few chairs in front for guests to sit outside. It was actually perfect for me and what I needed.
- Vern (4/5): Sales rep - I used to love the place. However it's very run down and the carpet is filthy. The parking lot has huge ruts/holes again showing no maintainence. The beds must be 50 years old.$49 is too much.
- Ryan (4/5): Would not recommend - Dank, wet carpeting in room, and their "free breakfast" consisted of stale coffee and a plate of Little Debbie Honey Buns.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Was a great stay no issues
- Edith (8/5): - Motel was reasonably clean and comfortable though in need of updating some things. Staff was friendly. Considering the place was booked full of bikers for the ABATE bike rally, my room was quiet and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good place to stay
- Steve (8/5): - It was a no frills Motel but I got a good night sleep
- Arturo (10/5): - Close to work !
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was clean. I didn't care for the breakfast that consisted of a honey bun roll and coffee.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - room was filthy, outdated, never been updated since it was built. Carpet was filthy, I wouldn't take my shoes off when I was in the room..... that's how disgusting is was. Hair stuck on the wall.... duct tape trying to seal the door jam from inside.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Met our needs - Room was roomy.
Clean.
South of town a bit.
Easy parking.
A/C worked well. Windows secure.
Bed comfortable.
Continetal Breakfast ok. Good coffee.
- Bradley E. (10/5): Great Place! - Comfortable bed, quiet, and great parking!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Filthy. Towels extra filthy!!! Smell stnky. Never ever again.
- Saad (10/5): - The owners were very accommodating and friendly. The rates were fair and the room was cozy. Would definately stay there again!
- P (6/5): - Very old, smelled musty so we asked to be moved to a different room. Otherwise it was clean.... Needs a lot of upgrading. Beds were really comfortable! Couldn't beat $169 for three nights tho.
- judith a. (6/5): Nothing fancy - This is a basic motel, no frills including breakfast, but the mattresses were good, bedspreads new, room clean but dated décor. Good economical motel if price is your issue. New owners have big challenges before them but it'll take much time to realize the potential that's at this facility. Seems to have very little staff to get things done.
- Bruce (8/5): - Nice folks, clean room, everything worked
- John (4/5): Burr Oak, Algona - Maybe a tear down and rebuild would do wonders for this place!
- Luke (8/5): - It was clean and well kept. But old. The front desk customer service was very poor but other than that it was a decent motel. Though there is definitely not breakfast like their hotels.com page says.
- Stacy (6/5): Clean and simple - It was a little bit odd that it wasn't in the main part of town, but my room was clean, towels smelled freshly laundered. The TV was a little tube TV, and the free breakfast was a honeybun and coffee. There was no WiFi as advertised. The plug in situation was a bit scary with all the extension cords, But for one night it got the job done.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Unexpected gem! - It looks like the Bates Motel, but it's actually quite nice! My room was larger that I would've guessed, and very comfortable, with a desk and office chair, a comfortable armchair, and a reading lamp and table next to it. There were even kitschy little knick-knacks. It looked like it was decorated by someone's doting aunt.
The lady at the front desk is very sweet too (though her English could be better).
- SD Dude (8/5): Completely relaxing!! - This is no 5 star, but it is very cosey and quiet. The owners are very friendly and helpful. We stayed here a week and it was great, will definitely be back.
- Danny (10/5): Burr Oak Motel - You get what you pay for. No frills here, but clean and comfortable. I keep returning because it's the best deal in the area.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Keep searching - This motel was obviously on the downward slide. Room lock was not what I would call secure. I could have gotten in with a good push. Kept my own lock (spelled with a "G") on the nightstand. Interior decor was circa 1970, who uses TVs that big anymore.Toilet paper was somewhere around 200 grit as were the towels. There was a refrigerator, unplugged with no outlet within reach, sitting in front of the room heater (which took 3 hours to heat the room to a comfortable level (glad I brought a sweatshirt). The Hotels.com site advertised a breakfast, this consisted of coffee, a jug of juice, and a paltry doughnut in a plastic wrapper (who knows how old). I'm rating this site a 2 just to be generous during the holiday season.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Liked the Clean rooms, a nice motel, we would stay here again. Also, prices were decent!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bedbugs - We didn't stay after seeing a suspect insect on the wall.
On the upside, they were quick to offer a refund.
- A.N. (6/5): Overnight stay. - Everything was fairly clean but there was a strange odor inside and outside of the room. Also the TV didn't work very well. I'd rate this stay at a 2.5
