Please note that office hours are 09:00 to 17:30 Monday to Saturday, and closed on Sunday. If you expect to arrive outside reception opening hours, please inform Redwood Hollow Cottages in advance.
Please note that only the confirmed number of guests are allowed at the property.
- RESERVATION: A 20% nonrefundable deposit is required in advance to guarantee your reservation as a commitment for the full period requested. This deposit will be charged to the credit card on the same day the reservation is made. The remaining balance is due and payable 30 days prior to arrival, and will be automatically charged to the same card on file unless otherwise arranged.
- PRE-CHECK-IN REQUIREMENTS: After booking, a rental agreement and check-in form will be sent to your Booking.com inbox or email (if provided). Both documents must be completed and signed in order to receive check-in instructions. Once submitted, your personalized self check-in code and arrival details will be sent within 48 hours prior to arrival.
Please note: Check-in instructions cannot be released until both forms are submitted.Please inform of your expected arrival time in advance. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly using the contact details in your confirmation.

- Stefan (8/5): A bit expensive, but it's worth it - The location, close to the beach and shops, is truly fantastic. The bungalow complex has a lot of charm and is an oasis of peace Most of the windows in my cottage couldn't be opened. Because of this, I didn't really get that beachy feeling inside the bungalow. Personally, I also found the place a bit too cluttered with plush and porcelain. It doesn't really fit with a beach setting.

The cottage was cozy and adorable. The plant life was incredible and helped it to feel cool despite the heat. Nothing! Could do a little better job with cleaning up cobwebs along the ceiling rafters, but other than that, it was lovely.

- Julie (5/5): We wanted to love this place but our cottage needs some attention - The property was charming. The garden area was lovely. The cottage was charming and clean however there was a very very bad musty smell in the cottage that we stayed in #246. It made for a rough two night sleep as it was nauseating to me and affected my husband’s allergies. The slider door to the bathroom was hard to slide open. We could not get the TV to work. But that was ok. The faucet on the kitchen sink was loose so be careful with that. It would be helpful to put blackout curtains at the window on the wall where the headboard is on as the lights from the parking are shining throw the curtain shears. But most disturbing was the musty smell. But we love La Jolla and will always be coming back but probably not to this charming little place as from outside visuals very charming but this cottage in particular has some issues that need addressing.

- Amy (10/5): Loved the property and wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again. - There were so many charming touches throughout the property. It was spotless as well. The grounds were well maintained with plenty of areas to sit and relax. The only very minor drawback it that it is a little bit of a distance from any restaurants and mostly requires a car to get around places or be willing to walk around 20 mins to get to your destination which can be difficult for those with mobility issues. Parking in La Jolla can be obnoxious as well.

- Ralph (8/5): Good choice for a short stay. Convenient location, safe, clean and quiet. - Great location for access to beach and downtown La Jolla. Easy entry, check in, etc. Quiet and clean. Safe surroundings. It's pretty tight inside. I would opt for one of the bigger cottages next time, but if you are on a budget, and won't be spending a lot of time in the cottage, it is fine. I personally prefer a bit more air ventilation, which is limited in this unit.
- Ariane (8/5): Charming, well located, not sound proof - The location is perfect, walkable to the beach, the village and it's shops/restaurants. The gardens are beautiful, the property is very well cared for. The Hemingway cottage is cozy, a little dark despite all the windows. You need the blinds somehow semi shut all the time for some privacy. Decor is a bit old fashioned but it works, kitchen is minimally equipped but we ate out so no issues there. Beds are comfy, extra linens, blankets, etc .. if needed. The cottage was split in half, first and second floor, which we didn't realize. We had guests above and could hear them walking and talking, coming home at 1:30am... Otherwise, electrical, outliers and plugs are weird, lots of different remotes/switches for lights, dans, etc... No big deal...

La climatisation était en panne, nous avons dû attendre qu'un dépanneur vienne. Il a passé 1h sans pouvoir réparer mais le lendemain, nous avons été dépanné. Le personnel a été très gentil et réactif, et ce sont des choses qui sont indépendantes de leur volonté Cependant la veille de notre départ, nous recevions un message qu'il fallait quitter la location avant 10h sous peine de pénalité !

On previous visits we have stayed in one and two bedroom cottages, but this time we had to stay in Sea Gate which is a studio unit! It was the last unit available for our stay. It is very "adorable" and visually peaceful and quiet as well. But it is quite small and it is really only that which causes me to give it four stars instead of five. It was difficult to get into or out of bed....that kind of small. But if we were going there again, and if it was the only unit available, we would still stay there. That's how much we like Redwood Cottages.

A tiny, charming oasis among the more modern condos on Prospect Street. The mattress seemed a bit worn out, but everything else was so lovely we made do.

- Stephanie (10/5): Idyllic , little hidden gem ♥️ - The cottages are hidden by a beautiful garden, you don’t feel like you are in a city. It’s a short distance to the tide pools. It isreally a lovely place. The little portable AC in the room did not function well. There are way too many pillows in the cabin, we had to put them in the closet to be able to find places to sit. However, neither of these things would keep us away. We plan on returning soon.

- Jacqueline (10/5): Charming, quiet and private, in a prime location, Redwood Hollow Cottages is a great place to stay. - My cottage, that I had all to myself, was a minutes' walk from the beach! I easily walked to the tide pools, children's pool, la jolla cove, and 2 other beaches south of there. There was a grocery also within reasonable walking distance. My cottage had a full kitchen with a Keurig, dishes and cutlery, things to cook with, and a full size fridge. It was private, and quiet. There is also air conditioning, which worked well, and a laundry room around the corner. It is easily the best location I have ever stayed at in La Jolla, and I would book again. There were also many restaurants in the vicinity. Though quaint, I didn't love the barn door to the bathroom area, it didn't open or close smoothly, so I just didn't use it. Also, if you like a very dark room, you might have trouble, but it's the beach! In La Jolla, so if you get up with the sun, more time to spend in it!
- Kimberly (10/5): I felt I was in a forest, so peaceful, I never knew there were other people staying there. - The room(s) were cozy, I liked having a space to put my computer but I needed more outlets. I use a CPAP machine and the outlet on the floor next to the bed worked fine. The location was perfect, only a 7 minute walk to the venue. The neighborhood was a bit further away from all the restaurants but the Uber came fast and was reasonable. It would be nice if there were USB ports somewhere, like on the base of the lamp next to the bed. I didn't see any trash baskets other than the one in the bathroom.
- Jessica (10/5): - We enjoyed the property and how well-cared for it was. We were able to walk around and “discovered” the greenhouse. Our toddler loved it! We stayed in Whispering Sands and liked the homey feel. It was not too noisy and we were able to relax. The beach and restaurants were easily accessible by walking which we did. All in all, we will definitely love to return and stay longer.

- Cynthia (10/5): Charming cottages nestled in quaint La Jolla - Charming, garden cottage setting, walkable to all La Jolla. Clean, cozy (read: small), and tranquil. Well-equipped kitchen, comfy bed, great pillows. Good a/c and ceiling fan. Spacious patio with nice furniture. Good shower pressure with ample hot water. Nice staff. Cumbersome online check-in process and forms. Cottages are very old, thus musty and stuffy. Be aware if you have respiratory issues. No housekeeping, disappointing for the expensive price. Onsite laundry, for a fee. Bring your own detergent.

Some definite quirks(office closed on Sunday but Welcome book says they are open everyday). No one onsite after 5:00pm. No instructions on how to run the a/c or coffee maker. The ceiling fan only worked when bedroom light was on. No window screens

- Anne (10/5): A great first visit to La Jolla! - location was excellent. It was close, but not too close to the fun restaurants and shops. And far enough away that parking was free. We walked everywhere easily. Parking at night was also easy. Harder when it got close to the weekend, tho. We loved the uniqueness of the site and the wonderful vegetation! The size of the apartment was perfect for my daughters and me. There was plenty of linens and extra blankets and laundry! Flor at the front desk set the tone for our stay. She was personable and very accommodating. She seemed to really care that we had everything we needed and that we enjoyed our stay. I would come back because of her. I did not like having to load and send images of my photo ID and credit card before I arrived. I worked out a compromise with the front desk that partially protected me, but I have received several scam and phishing emails that referenced San Diego since I sent the documents. It could have also been on the local wifi, that I turned on once and and that would not work when I tried to use my VPN. Better internet security and a better check in process would help.

Was very unhappy with the amount of personal information required (outside of Booking.com) and the insecure methods they collected and distributed. I have never had to provide that much information when staying in the States. Also, sending credit card and passport information over email is NOT SECURE! Very unprofessional. Asked for 30 min extra time to check out... provided 10. Cold, corporate feel to customer service.

The second hut was furnished just with a coutch but how cosy…. Situation in La Jolla is perfect. 3 minutes walk to the sea, 5 minutes to restaurants and a supermarket. I recommend it and would come back again if I eber have the chance to visit La Jolla again.

- John (8/5): Very good - Wonderful property tucked away in La Jolla. Beautiful rooms, just beware that the parking is tight. Normally that would be alleviated by street parking, but they were doing construction there during our visit. Sadly, the other property behind our room had construction occurring leading to loud work sounds outside our room from 7 am to 7 pm.
- Kathy (10/5): This lovely, historic La Jolla cottage is literally a 5 minute walk to the ocean, and we took that stroll every night! - The cottage was adorable and we all loved everything about it, from the decor to the comfy beds to the beautiful landscaping. And it was magnificent to be a five minute walk from the beach! We walked over every night to watch the sunset. I suppose the parking situation. But it really wasn’t that big a deal or a strike against this delightful property. We were always able to find parking on the street nearby.

Walking distance to everything---shops, grocery, and many restaurants. We loved the historicity of the property. Over a hundred years old, yet modernized for convenience sake. We loved the brick pavers to the cottages and the lush shrubbery between each one. We've stayed here 6 times and hope to come again. Could use more hooks and towel racks in the bathroom.
- Janet (10/5): Old La Jolla charm - Being at the Redwood cottages was like stepping back in time to Old La Jolla. The grounds are tropical and beautiful, just a block from the ocean. You could hear the ocean while you were sleeping. The inside of the cottage was well appointed and met all of our needs. We never needed our car once we were there as we could get to restaurants and shopping and beach with just a short walk I could have used more coffee pods! But it was clear in the description that they provided pods for just the first day. We stayed in a studiocottage, but it was plenty spacious for our needs. The bed was memory foam. I know many people love this kind of bed, but I prefer an old fashioned mattress. It was good quality memory foam, it's just not my preference

It's a short walk to a small beach and also a short walk to a great restaurant, El Pescador Fish Market (Ate there 3 times on a four day stay) and a great surf shop, Mitch's surf shop. It would be perfect if it was on the beach. Also, don't miss The Taco Stand.
- Laura (8/5): - The property is super tiny with paths that are hard to walk and uneven. It’s like a little maze getting to where we were staying. We didn’t get to pick our room and we ended up getting a micro suite. My husband is 6’2” and he barely fit anywhere in the room. I couldn’t walk across the room without hitting my hip on the dresser at the foot of the bed because there was only a foot wide gap between the dresser and bed. For a short stay it was manageable but wouldn’t recommend for anything longer than a night or 2. The walls are super thing too which is actually stated in their welcome packet because it’s an old property. We could hear when people were talking outside our room and when our neighbor showered. We did also have an incident where someone tried to go into our suite in the early morning. Thankfully we were checking out anyway. The staff were nice. We didn’t interact with them much but when we did they were as accommodating as possible.

- Carrie (8/5): - My stay at Redwood Hollow was a mix of pros and cons. The property’s location is fantastic—set in a stunning area with a beautiful garden, and within walking distance to the beach and La Jolla village. However, the hotel itself is in need of renovation. The rooms and facilities could use some updating to match the charm of the surroundings. One significant issue was the $500 charge to my card for a deposit on incidentals. Although I had read about it during booking, I was later informed that I wouldn’t be charged. The charge only appeared on my account the morning of checkout, which was confusing and unexpected. While I enjoyed the area, the surprise charge left a sour note on an otherwise pleasant stay.

Prior to that I stayed to spend time cooking, hiking, and connecting with my children who live in San Diego. Both stays were in different spaces and I cannot say enough about how special both were.
