I had two different rooms that had no working safe. The room was dirty. The HVAC was so loud we couldn’t use it. My kid was on crutches and the parking garage elevator didn’t work so she had to go down a parking garage ramp on crutches. The fire alarm went off at 1:45 am, causing me to carry a 15 year old on crutches down 12 flights of steps. We checked out early. I contacted the assistant GM with my concerns and haven’t heard back. Terrible hotel.

- susanhQ4347RG (4/5): Very disappointing - We were very disappointed with our recent stay at the Homewood Suites Richmond/Downtown. The parking garage alone set the tone—extremely narrow spaces, cars unable to comfortably park side-by-side, and a metal awning actively falling apart above the vehicles. Our room was not up to Hilton standards. There was a strong odor (a mix of pickles and smoke) that we reported several times. The front desk promised an ozone machine three separate times but it never happened. We mentioned the smell might be coming from the sink and were told maintenance would look into it—also never happened. They offered to move us to the attached Hampton, but other guests warned us there was no hot water over there. Housekeeping never serviced our room, even when specifically requested. The beds were uncomfortable and pillowcases were visibly dirty. To make it worse, all of the in-room toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion) were completely empty, which tells you everything about how well the room had been checked. Most of the front desk staff were polite and seemed willing to help, but there was zero follow-through. One staff member in particular was passive aggressive and condescending. To top it all off, we were stuck in the parking garage for over an hour because of a blocked car and a tow truck with no common-sense solution offered, leaving guests to wait in their vehicles until the owners returned from dinner. We travel often and choose Hilton brands for consistency and comfort, but this location missed the mark in almost every category.

- DuBrueler (7/5): Hotels are so expensive and so it makes you bummed when you can’t get wash clothes or take a shower without burning up, - Nice lobby, elevator system and parking was cool, everything in room seemed orderly and clean, and the room was very big which is wonderful when your whole family has to share the space. Asked twice for washcloths and never got any. The second time they said the staff had brought us washcloths already. I don’t know why we’d call and ask again if our request had been successful. We thought the washcloths may still arrive, but no, no washcloths for our showers. The shower had either scalding hot water or freezing cold water, really no in between. The best we could adjust it to was very hot so we pretty much had a sauna in the bathroom and could not be under the water for more than a few seconds at a time. I’ve never experienced this scenario, water that would be hot and you move the handle a millimeter and it turns to ice cold water. The smell in the hallways and rooms was strange. Especially the hallway but luckily there are not too many rooms per floor so the walk from the elevator to the room was quick.

- lisatravels (8/5): Love all the Space, Good Value - Pros: LOVED all that I got in this hotel - bedroom, living room, almost full kitchen. I was there for a conference and appreciated being able to bring in food from grocery stores for some of my meals to eat in and plenty of space to work on my computer and chill. Rooms were nicely appointed and bedroom had two large windows which brought in a lot of light. Location was great - easy walking distance to convention center and also the river/Brown Island. Parking was cheaper than some hotels in the area and I got a state discount on it. Cons: I never totally figured out the elevators and felt "trapped" in the parking garage a few times. There are four elevators. When you put in your floor number on an external panel, the system directs you to a specific elevator, there are no buttons in it and it displays the floors it's going to. When going from lobby to my floor it worked well. However, when in the parking garage it takes forever for it to come and then sometimes the floor you pressed is not listed so you end up going to several floors that are not your own and there is no button to press. I only discovered this when I was leaving, so didn't ask about it. There were also a couple of weird electric issues - sometimes the light switch would work, others not. I turned the thermostat off the first day and couldn't get it to work after that. It wasn't a big deal since it was mild out and the room stayed comfortable.

Didn’t matter as the rooftop restaurant was closed for a private event.

The lobby was inviting, staff very professional and friendly, our suite just exceptional and the bed so comfortable I had a hard time getting up. Not to mention the breakfast! It was delicious! - Paula (6/5): - This is my second time here and I loved this place so much the first experience. First time was a suite which was amazing with one of my girlfriends. This time we stayed in a double queen bedroom which was super nice and spacious! One of my friends who owns a cleaning company started pointing out a few things. The carpets weren’t clean and had grit on our feet and caked dust in areas.. and I also found other people’s hair beneath our hand towels. A little minor but after dinner we stopped back in and our AC stopped working. Our telephone didn’t work so we couldn’t get ahold of anyone at the front desk. My girlfriends were able to get our room changed to a new room. The woman at the front desk that late night/early morning (2am) was super helpful, soo kind and understanding. Unfortunately after a late night out I find my girlfriends aren’t even sleeping on a mattress cover because they found a blood stain on their sheets which is horrible. Our shower tub was clogged and the bathroom door was hard to shut. Upon check out we had another super sweet woman working the front desk. All in all, it’s a beautiful setting with really friendly and kind staff working the front desk however maintenance and cleanliness is definitely something needed to be worked on.

The water got extremely hot because the faucet mechanism that routes the water to the shower head was not functioning properly. It looked like someone pulled on it really hard. The shades on the lamps are very dusty. However, the staff is helpful and friendly.

- shamekila (2/5): Don’t waste your time - Terrible…Roaches in the room. I woke up for an earlier morning flight and saw a small roach on the floor. Then my bag had a live roach in it. This is a run down facility. I did call down but there wasn’t anyone who could help bc they can leave their post. Also the broken elevator said not to use it yet it opened as if the signage was incorrect. I will NEVER stay here again. As a Diamond member, this is unacceptable.

We asked for clean linen and also asked that the room be cleaned while we were gone. Neither one of those things happened. The bathroom door hits the toilet every time you open the door. So you can't be sitting on the toilet and your significant other walks in to get something from the sink because your legs will be destroyed by the door. Also there were so many switches on the wall and only half worked. Had a ceiling fan in the bedroom which was a plus, but had no way to control the speed because there was no remote or way to control the switch on the wall. And we stayed there for our wedding night.

- Mosley (3/5): Irritating stay - The elevators work well, and it is nice they integrate with the parking garage so well. The price of parking wasn't too bad. Mattress was old, sagged, and was uncomfortable. Bathroom shower temptrol controller could not blend cold water in - only hot water came out of shower head. AC was turned off the morning we checked out, but before we actually checked out! And Richmond is very hot in the summer, you can tell right away when the AC is off. Finally, I am really getting tired of the Hilton WiFi system. Can we just have WiFi in the hotel without entering our hilton honors number or our room number, etc? Or, perhaps, can we only enter that ONCE, for god's sake? It seems like a pretty easy change to make. Oh, finally, we were a family of three people, but there were only two towels.

Went to Soulard and the Venice Cafe. also a cool Coffee house called the Antagonist. A badass place! Can't wait to com back. Rooms were great and convenient!

Rooms were okay, only one person working at check in which made for a wait, I slept on the pull out couch of our suite and it was probably the worst pull out ever! Skinny mattress and the coils were aggressive. The breakfast had very little to offer but there was some sort of scrambled "egg" product and hash browns but they were gone when I came down at 8:45. On site restaurant was good and drinks were good but they need a few items that are more basic. I appreciated the parking deck and felt safe knowing you had to have a key to get in. Overall, it was fine but not worth the price.

Finally hit into room put clothes away used toilet went to the bar in the top floor and when we came back the toilet had flooded the room from a leak under the toilet. Went to reception and they gave us another room so had to move all clothes etc. not sure why if they had another room they didn’t give us this one in the first place when checked in. Frequently no staff at reception in back office had to wait till decided to cone out. Had to wait about 20 minutes when checking out for the housekeeping staff to find someone but did have a notice to say stepped away to help another customer. On the second day housekeeping came changed the sheets on the bed and they smelled musky hubby didn’t want me to say anything. No pool in hotel as previously shown on details said it was permanently closed down.

Would stay again, but pricy for not getting the room I paid for.

I cannot log into WiFi since I am registered at Homewood Suites, and Homewood Suites is not listed as a WiFi option. Only Hampton Inn shows up as a WiFi option, and my name is not found as a registered guest. The room is ok, but I had booked a suite with separate sitting area and a kitchen area at Homewood Suites. At Hampton Inn I am in a simple hotel room. I am very disappointed with this since I expected a more luxurious accommodation, and I brought food to have dinner in my room. As I had to park in a neighboring garage I cannot bring in all of my things. I use a cane, and also cannot carry heavy items without a luggage cart.

I had two rooms booked for myself and a fellow teacher for a conference. One room had no AC. Staff brought fans apologized said it should be fixed it was not! Good thing there is NO hot water in either room so you can cool down in your stuffy 90 degree room. Not even luke warm. Cold cold water! Staff is friendly. The rooms are somewhat clean but the furniture is ripped, carpet stained and burns in carpet…although pretty sure it’s smoke free. When I walked in my room on 10th floor it smelled like death! The disposal had not been cleaned and rotten food was in sink. Gross. But the rest looked clean. I wouldn’t stay here. Parking fills up in evenings. Keypad on elevator in parking garage 7b does not work. You’ll have to walk. Good luck finding the stairs! I always stay Hilton but not worth the points! Won’t stay here again.
- aspense722 (10/5): Wonderful Hotel! - We stayed at this location for one night while on a family road trip and it was wonderful. The lobby was very spacious and clean. The front desk staff were pleasant and helpful. Our room was huge! Very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was pretty standard but filled us up. Parking was very convenient as well. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone needing a hotel in Richmond. Also I have to note that their elevator system (where you swipe your room key for and it assigns you an elevator) should be in every hotel!! I can imagine it keeps things running smoothly when the hotel is busy!

- john (10/5): Road trip to Richmond - Picked hotel off location to a venue for a show. Originally booked a different hotel who was not accommodating to our party size. This hotel was able to easily accommodate us and was a much better price! Great location, staff was friendly facilities were clean. I'd stay here again for sure!
- CACPA (2/5): No Hot Water April 2025 - We were without hot water until our last day when it switched to just luke warm. Front desk said we needed to run the water for 15-20 minutes(!) to get hot water which didn't work. They also said that the City of Richmond lost water for 5 days a few months ago and that there plumbing has never been the same since. They can't pin point the problem. Some days, certain rooms are effected and other days different rooms are effected. The Hampton Inn which shares space in the building apparently does not have hot water problems. If you stay here, you are rolling the dice that your room will have hot water. Carpet was dirty and coming up in places, breakfast was fine- exactly what you'd expect for a free continental breakfast. Gym was small.

The shower drained very slowly causing you to have standing water during your shower. The sink water had terrible flow--only a tiny stream of water. The sofa in the living room was uncomfortable. The bedding was uncomfortable. The parking was challenging because we got in later at night and all spaces were basically gone. I worried about where my SUV was parked. We were only staying two nights and were away from the hotel all day on Saturday. It wasn't worth complaining about since we were leaving early on Sunday. Room 918.
- Hilligoss (6/5): OK hotel...but we had no hot water! - Our stay was comfortable, and the room was clean. The area was a little deserted on the weekends, with not a lot close-by for dining and evening things to do. But it did feel safe. Our biggest issues were parking and hot water. We were charged $25 a day for parking, but the garage was full! It was so full that people were parking in aisles not designated as spaces! Our second issue was that for our second day of our stay we had no hot water. We had to take cold showers all day. We checked out that day, so we have no idea how long the problem persisted for, but it was definitely the entire day of our second day.

The location of this hotel is awesome and we were able to walk to a nearby bar/restaurant for dinner and then drinks with friends. Our room was awesome and huge. We had a nearly 1 bedroom room with a separate living room and full kitchen. I only used the coffee maker but if I were staying longer this would have been great. Bed were comfy and luckily we had hot water in the morning. Some people were complaining about a lack of hot water in the evening but the next morning our room was good. Breakfast was pretty pitiful. No eggs, just sausage and potatoes. They had a waffle iron, apples, yogurt and cereal. Bread and English muffins but no bagels. I’ve definitely seen better and for over $300 for the night, this should have been.

Kitchenette was well equipped. Shower took a long time to heat up as well as the heat in the bedroom room area. Breakfast was good decent options. Location was great walkable to train and restaurants. Partially booked to try out the rooftop restaurant but it was under construction when we arrived.

I would recommend this as a great value and a comfortable night's sleep.

Minuses: they did state there would be housekeeping on the 3rd day of a longer stay, but no housekeeping was provided. Only one burner on the kitchenette stove worked, and there was nothing to use to wash dishes (a sponge or brush or something). Otherwise very comfortable and convenient, with a great location. Walkable to restaurants and activities and the downtown train station.

Had vomit all over the couch and couch cushions and was haphazardly hidden so nobody would find out till it was too late, food underneath the couch and foot rest, and human hair all over the blantanly misfolded towels. The room was a literal vomitorium and my friends were appauled that this was even a Hilton.
