Guest Reviews
- birgitta (8/5): Nice little hotel - Nice personal, good location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very good place, friendly, clean, flexible and perfect location
- Canuckker (8/5): Four stars based on my experience but I was upgraded - When I first got here I was given a room that wasn't so nice, but within an hour Clarice (whom I thought was the owner but she is not) said I had been given the wrong room and was upgraded. The room I had was very large, with a huge bedroom, sitting area, foyer and a large bathroom.
I found the staff had a better attitude than what I had experienced in the region, though I speak French so maybe that helped. I don't know if anyone spoke English.
The breakfast was basic, a croissant, half baguette, yogurt and cheese, but certainly enough to get you going. There are a few nice restaurants in the area and two large supermarkets nearby where you can get provisions.
I thought Clarice was really nice; she seemed to go out of her way to make sure I was comfortable which I appreciated.
- AfricaIndianaJones (6/5): Nothing special but partly functional - I stayed in October 2018 in this hotel. It was my second stay.
First of all one has to realize that accommodation in Libreville is really limited and very expensive! The so called better hotels are all in remote areas of the city which will force you to use their own restaurant to eat and integrated shops to buy stuff of your daily needs which again is expensive.
From this point Hotel Le Patio is convenient as it is located in Quartier St. Louis where you find shops, restaurants, clubs etc. all in walking distance (but uphill and downhill since Libreville is a quite hilly city - like Freetown or Kigali for instance). The rooms start from 40.000 CFA up to 90.000 CFA (suite), so in average 60.000 CFA which is roughly 95 EUR per night.
However, as you might expect in Africa there are a lot of things who are not working in the rooms. On my actual stay I had to change the room due to the fact that taking a shower was life threatening. After showering for some minutes the metal shower holder and hoses gave me an electrical shock. The hotel staff promised to fix the problem but the next day it was the same. In the new room water only was available intermittent, sometimes no water came at all - sometimes just a bit...
The AC worked and wifi connection was fairly ok (with disruptions and sometimes going very slow of course). So try to get a room on the first floor cause the router is mounted on the outside patio wall on the same floor.
Some of the cleaners were very unfriendly behaving as they would own the place. On the same time they are more than lazy to do their job: Floor not cleaned, towels not changed, no replacement of toilet paper. Only the bed was made. When I told them that if they would work like that in Europe they would get fired on the spot no reaction came and it seems that they simply don't care about anything. After I complained this with the hotel management things got a bit better though.
So this is a relatively affordable hotel in a strategic location. Even some business travelers are staying here. However, the place needs to be refurbished totally (at my stay some rooms were presently renovated), especially the sanitary plumbing and water supplying system. Don't expect any luxury, it's very spartanic but given the lack of a better choice in Libreville a stay here is still reasonable
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Jenna (10/5): Perfect choice for Libreville - I spent two nights at Le Patio. The room was incredibly clean and spacious. I had an issue and honestly I am beyond impressed at how the management contacted me and resolved it. I have been traveling for the past six months and this has been the best customer service. I will definitely choose Le Patio again in the future. Although I only speak English, everyone was quick to help me, particularly flagging down taxis and negotiating. Definitely a jem in Libreville!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great stay, friendly staff, great location, good amenities compared to other places.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed - This hotel is not worth the cost. There was a huge roach on the floor when we arrived for the stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great spot away from the beach - Comfortable room, quite. Open lounge area. Excellent staff, staff was the best part. warm showers. A generator when electricity is cut. Many food options in the area. Walk to the beach and Mbolo market. Located close to ministries and gare routier.
- OnwardTraveller (6/5): Mostly closed on my visit so possibly not a typical experience - The main part of the hotel was closed for renovation during my visit in August 2017 but my reservation was honoured in a room just inside the main door, before reception. Staff were heplful throughout despite my limited French. A basic breakfast was offered. My room was clean and tidy and I had no problems during my visit. Quite reasonable location on the west side of the city about 20 minutes walk into the city centre.
- KokoBel (8/5): Upgraded - I made a reservation for a regular double room, but was upgraded to a suite with a separate living room. Both the bedroom & living room had an orange theme. Curtains separating the rooms gave the space an exotic look. The bathroom was spacious and functional. The A/C unit (bedroom only) was efficient.
Now for the negatives. The free WiFi was annoyingly slow. My mattress was springy & bouncy. Separate hot & cold water taps made the water temperature difficult to control.
Le Patio is located in Quartier Louis, famed for its nightlife. While the hotel itself is very quiet, several clubs are just a short walk away.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Trato muy cirdial
- Anshul (10/5): - This had quite a bit of value for money.
- Guillermo (10/5): Great Stay in Libreville, Gabon - Amazing staff willing to help out in any way possible!
- Rees (10/5): Glad we stayed - The stay was most as we hoped: warm welcome; efficient; good location...
- Joe (6/5): Close to my business location. - Quality to price ratio is good. Easy to take a taxi as the hotel is located at a main road.water was not available for a whole day.
- Bernet (10/5): Agréable et bon wifi - Voyage d’affaires. La chambre est agréable. Wifi fonctionne très bien. Localisation centrale.
- Alexis Mussard (10/5): Great and efficient hotel - I stayed during only one night, it's really rare to find a hotel in Libreville with functioning equipment, good wifi and close to commodities (Airport access is really fast from the hotel).
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean hotel in nice area of Libreville - - Location is great, only 5 minutes to go downtown and a lot of nice bars and restaurants in the area
- Very clean with good service (daily cleaning service)
- Nice and helpful staff
- carlos (4/5): - The room did not have hot water
- BW57MAUR (6/5): Not too bad in a city with limited choice - I booked this hotel on arrival at the airport, after some searching. Libreville lacks decent hotels at reasonable prices. So many hotels, including Le Patio, are quirky, shabby-chic, arty types where every room is different and management generally indifferent.
To their credit, after I posted a comment about the damaged toilet seat, the Manager immediately called to apologise, and also offer me an upgrade to a larger room, as well as a free night's stay.
The hotel only offer a basic continental breakfast, as there are many restaurants within 10 minutes walk of the hotel in the Quartier Louis.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Akseptabelt - Hotel needs renovation
- allenja (10/5): Lovely helpful people - Good location. Good price (especially given the football tournament was on when we stayed). Great people. I'm a fan of how helpful they were. The room was good. Can't fault anything really - excpet perhpas the water pressure but all in all a great spot.
- Marc (2/5): I was disappointed - Someone is not doing their job for this hotel to be listed here. I booked for two days back in Dec 2016; went there and couldn't stay because the hotel was not clean and I didn't feel safe. Towels were hung to dry in the hotel corridors, and the green carpet on the stairs leading to the 2nd floor were old, soaked and dirty. I requested a refund, and for more than 3 weeks Travelocity could not find an English-speaking hotel manager in order to process my refund. I was expecting in the worst case scenario that I would be charged one night for my late cancellation, but they kept all my money. Dishonest people. Don't go there.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Seen beer tee days - Older hotel with basic continental breakfast. Good for 1 or 2 nights as long as you don't have to spend a lot of time in the room.
- Tim (10/5): Great value, friendly place - Great value place, close to a wide selection of restaurants, and with really friendly and helpful staff. Much recommended
- Tim (10/5): Good value, great staff - Staff were very friendly and helpful
- benjamin (10/5): Great star in this nice hotel - Great location. Clean, good wifi. I recommend.
- cyrille (8/5): petit hôtel sympathique - séjours agréable proche animation et commerce centre ville . personnel accueillant
- nellihuie (4/5): Not what I expected. - The staff were patient with my complete lack of French which I greatly appreciated, however the room I had at the rate of AU$155/night was definitely not what I expected. It had a door that locked, a shower, bed, air con and fridge, but the entire interior of the rooms is very very run down, in total disrepair, and smelled of mould. However the air con is great, the breakfast was nice and the coffee was fantastic.
- devarpanc (8/5): Simple, Cost Effective and Central - As the number of reviews to this place attest to, the above 3 words can summarise this place very well. Hotel options in Libreville can be quite expensive and this place offers the budget traveler an excellent choice.
I stayed at this establishment for 3 nights and I must say that the place is nice with comfortable rooms and decent wi-fi. The rooms are not 5 star but excellent value for money. Language could become a bit of a problem but nothing that some hand gestures and a smile cannot fix. Breakfast is accompanied by fresh croissants and strong coffee. There are numerous restaurants, bars and convenience stores in the vicinity of this place and there is a taxi stop right in front of the hotel if you need to go anywhere in the city.
The payment process was very seamless as they have a card machine on the premises and also accept Paypal on their website.
I will definitely recommend this place to budget travellers and I will myself be staying there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Yuri (8/5): Good for stay in Libreville - We arrived very night, but the staff took care about us. So, we were relived.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A good choice for a "local experience" - While there are not many hotel choices in Libreville that won't break the bank, Le Patio is a choice at a moderate price. However, don't get too excited - the garden patio itself is a nice little enclave, but the rooms are nothing fancy, certainly not newly renovated. If you want perfect cleanliness/no cracks in the walls/etc. without the occasional mosquito here and there, go elsewhere. The service fluctuates based on who is helping you. If you want a comfortable luxury hotel then pay the extra - if you want more of a local experience Le Patio is a good choice.
- ShreyansShah (8/5): simple and very near to the city - clean and nice hotel. staff is extremely helpful and friendly. speaking english helps you a lot. rooms were also nice and clean. wifi and breakfast are on the house, though wifi not always work in room properly. but in lobby, its excellent.
what i didn't like is dimly lit lobby. it could have been better.
though the area called "Louis" is very nearby to city center, it's full of pubs and has very less business establishments.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient stay - Very friendly and attentive staff.
- 9PeterS (6/5): OK where options are limited - Not least based on several very positive reviews I decided to stay at this hotel during a recent business trip. The hotel turned out to be acceptable overall but the basis for the more positive reviews is not evident - the hotel is not particularly attractive. This said, the hotel was clean and the rooms acceptable. Credit card payments were not possible when I wanted to pay, and the breakfast is the standard African baguette-and-coffee type of thing. Unfortunately, the court yard is not as green and pleasant as on the pictures, nor as big. The bed in my room (ground floor) was OK, the AC worked reliably, internet most of the time (reception was much better in the lobby). Warm water was available but the bathroom could have done with some renovation. Generally, no attention to details had been paid during construction/renovation, and the rooms were bare of any decoration. Staff were friendly throughout the stay. There are some fine eating options in the surrounding streets, an ATM and taxis frequently come to look for customers.
- jocejackson (10/5): Excellent option for inexpensive stay - This hotel was one of the highlight of my stay in Libreville. The room was amazingly comfortable with beautiful colors,w/fridge, air conditioning, hot water shower, flatscreen tv, clean and pleasant! The bed was comfortable and cleanThe room service were excellent, kind customer service. I enjoyed my two week stay at this beautiful conveniently located hotel.
- Astrid (8/5): Une bonne adresse ! - Bon pour séjour d’affaires
Bonne surprise.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A very pleasant stay - I searched different hotels in Libreville before selecting this one upon recommendation of a friend. The staff is extremely pleasant and accommodating, and many of the rooms have recently been refurbished. It's still a bit basic, but clean and comfortable. My room had a mini fridge, and the wifi and air conditioning worked perfectly.
- JamesRInManc (8/5): Clean hotel with A/C - Morning staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Evening staff became more friendly.
Rooms are clean, hot water in the shower and good A/C. Wifi also works from rooms.
Breakfast is a bit of a rip off at £7 for a bowl of cornflakes and some tinned fruit.
There is a little bit of noise from the nearby clubs but it was more than covered up by the a/c.
- Lucysworldtravels (8/5): Great option for Libreville - I searched 12 different hotels in Libreville before selecting this one as accommodation for a workshop I hosted. The staff at Le Patio were extremely pleasant and accommodating (rare for the service industry in Gabon), the hotel takes credit cards, and many of the rooms have recently been refurbished. I was told it's been under new ownership since March 2015. It's still a bit basic, but clean and comfortable. My room had a mini fridge, and the wifi and air conditioning worked perfectly. The only down side I encountered was the insane charge for breakfast- 7000 FCFA for coffee and a croissant, 10,000 FCFA if you wanted an egg. Skip the breakfast and walk down the hill to Paolo Patisserie. Otherwise, this is a good hotel!
- Stig1960 (6/5): Simple and relatively cheap - Stayed in the hotel overnight between flights. Certainly a bargain for Libreville standards where the majority of the bigger hotels are 150 Euros or more.
The hotel is simple and in reality looks a bit more worn than on the photos in the website.
Booking was relatively easy, they don't take Creditcards, so bring enough cash.
Breakfast is like the hotel itself, simple but just sufficient.
I had dinner - well this is a list from a nearby fast food joint which is delivered in the dining room (mine took about 1 hour). There are some local restaurants nearby, think this would have been a better choice.
- SteveHH1955 (4/5): badly managed and overprized hotel - I booked a standard room in advance. They didn't find my booking on arrival even I showed them their confirmation email. They gave me a room downside. When I saw the room it was a schock, cos their webpage showed more inviting rooms. Dirty walls, a very loud vibrating AC,the water of the sink just trickled, the internet was off in daytime, the girls at the reception were incompetent to manage anything. The overall impression was careless and the hotel was not uplifted for years. For this I paid 100 US$ .
- Safari_njema10 (6/5): OK for expensive Libreville - Simple but relatively well kept hotel in popular and convenient Quartier Louis.
I've tried two types of rooms the Deluxe and the Standard. The difference was substantial, with the Deluxe room being larger and recently renovated (new bathroom, freshly painted walls and modern airconditioning). The Standard room cost approx. CFA 20,000 less that the Delux (which I think was 65,000/night) but it smelled stuffy and the airconditioning was loud. Both rooms had issues with termites eating into the ceiling, resulting in a fine wood dust on the bed (which the staff cleaned after I pointed this out to them).
Wi-fi connection was good in the Delux room, but the signal was weaker in the Standard (both rooms were on the 1st floor.
Breakfast is not included and costs an addtional 7,500 CFA, which is a lot for a croissant, bread and jam, some cereal and a fruit salad from a tin. But unfortunately such prices are standard in Libreville.
All in all, not great value for money internationally, but given the typical prices in Libreville this place is ok and its location is a great in terms of proximity to restaurants, bars etc.
- JamesA602 (8/5): An excellent alternative to the overpriced waterfront - I mean, it still is costly (42,000 CFA), but that's a round of drinks at the major chain hotels in Libreville. It is a clean hotel with a central location, just down the street from a good restaurant specializing in Gabonese cuisine. The ladies that run it are friendly and helpful. Firm mattresses. Good coffee, too.
- 375benjaminf (10/5): You feel like being at home! - This hotel is really special: good value, nice building, very good location...nothing to complain!!
I had a wonderful stay there. I enjoyed accommodations, localisation, the breakfast and on top of that the nice service.
Thank you for giving me a home in this city !
I will come back for sure!
- farvas (8/5): v friendly staff, little overpriced but so is libreville! - Had a basic room for 45000 CFA, stayed one night.Staff are extremely helpful.I spoke no french but they assisted me in everyway possible.Room service is prompt and efficient aswell. I suggest going to the restaurant/bar right outside le patio for food.most amazing cook. New setup and friendly staff.
- Armando1998 (10/5): Nice people, Nice place, Nice stay. - Went to Libreville for business reasons and stayed for 4 nights at the Patio upon recommendation and I assume to do the same for travelers.
Good compromise for a business trip: well localed and feel-like-home place.
Warm and dedicated staff for you to enjoy your stay at the Patio.
