Guest Reviews
- William (8/5): - The room was clean though dated. Front desk and breakfast staff were helpful and excellent. A very good European breakfast was provided.
- Grenell (10/5): - Great central location, staff were lovely, good value for money
- Michelle (8/5): - The building is old. Love the architecture. Our room was spacious and clean. They provide a magnet that you attach in the room to run lights and air. Bed was low to the ground and really firm. Every time I moved it squeaked. Shower was decent. You have to step up into shower so if you are short you need stuff to grab onto.
Air ran on low so really never cooled down to a comfortable temp. It felt nice when you initially walk into room because it was so hot outside but once inside you warmed up.
Breakfast was very good, they had a nice selection of food.
When checking out we had to pay an additional $10 for a tax.
- John (10/5): - Central
- Panayiota (10/5): - Spent one night and liked it
- Michael (10/5): - A comfortable stay right in the centre of Kalamata.
- Billy (6/5): - Room was nice but the toilet/ shower room was tiny.
- GoPlaces64263773917 (8/5): Good place to stay at your vacation - Lovely hotel, placed in Kalamata’s center. Old but nice and clean.
All staff members are very kind and very helpful with all the questions and information that we needed. Especially both Nicks.
Everything is within walking distance: shops, restaurants, grocery stores.
- Spiridon (10/5): - Rex Hotel was very nice. Located in a high traffic area, there were many options for food, drinks and recreation.
- Wesley (2/5): - Stinks smoking
- ChristosManos (8/5): Excellent location........ - Hotel Rex is a decent choice when visiting Kalamata. It is centrally located (2-3 min walk to the city centre) and parking outside hotel is abundant. The building is very nice, old but well maintained. Staff excellent, breakfast simple but tasty and the rooms renovated. A/C was efficient and silent. To sum it up: Very decent hotel, nothing luxurious but nothing negative to talk about. If you need a "simple" stay without the amenities of a 5 star hotel, then hotel Rex is a safe choice.
- englanderin186299 (8/5): Coffee under the Orange Trees - I went here for a frappe after visiting the Saturday market in Kalamata. It's an interesting old building in the pedestrianised area in the city centre. A good coffee and friendly service. Totally relaxing sitting under the orange trees.
- Stephanie (8/5): Dated but nice enough - We were able to check in early which was great. The room was OK, very clean but really needs a refurb as it is quite dated. We had a fridge with water which was nice. No mosquito nets on the doors so we weren't able to open them at night but there was aircon. Breakfast was good & plentiful. The building is beautiful and very central to the old town & market.
- 101lefterisp (8/5): Nice hotel at the city center - Stayed for one whole week, I have found nothing to criticize except Internet connection which was unstable. Located at the city center, actually a very old building that has recently renovated. Staff is friendly and quick, hotel offers excellent breakfast and very comfortable mattresses (something important to me)
I'm very satisfied and I can recommend.
- constantinos (8/5): - Struttura centralissima e molto pulita , personale molto gentile e ottima colazione . Unica pecca i materassi un po duri .
- Diana (8/5): Hit - It was nice but way too hot( not hotels fault!)
- KIS1312 (10/5): Nice hotel - The hotel has very nice and sufficient rooms. It has an elevator. The location is great if you want to be at the center without having noises. It has a nice breakfast. The staff is friendly. They will provide you with good advice. It is quietly and convenient in many ways. There is parking either in front of the hotel or close by.
- EdgarCosset (6/5): A Practical Value Choice - What to make of the Rex? It should be better than it is. Situated in a building with a splendid historic facade, the interior is drab and tired. Our greeting was cordial, our reservation in order, and we were pleased the desk seemed to be staffed 24/7. The elevator worked most of the time.
There is much to like, and much that could be improved. If location is everything, the Rex has this in spades with no viable competition anywhere near. The fun bars and small shops of Old Town, such as the amazing spice store, are almost just out the door. The castle is a ten-minute walk, the fabulous farmers market is barely five. Plentiful and inexpensive city parking is available in the lots across the street. My fee for overnight was €4.50. An unexpected off-season bonus was that with so few guests, instead of the buffet you get a table-served breakfast virtually made-to-order.
But the room was very clean and totally charmless. Amenities included a safe, a tiny TV, a fridge and an antique hair dryer with a hose like a vacuum cleaner. And that’s it. The wardrobe had excellent drawer space but three hangers as if resigned to only short-term stays. Free wi-fi with a good signal, but a shocking lack of outlets for your devices. The marble bathtub was deep, but the towels were thin. No coffee service. The mattress was the hardest I’ve slept on in a long time; however, surprisingly, I got a good night’s rest. The streets were quiet, the heat worked.
The modest room rate reflects all these things, and in the end goes a long way to my rating that the Rex is in fact a good, economical choice. They know what they’re working with and charge fairly for it. Don't expect a luxury stay, but if you want to be downtown, this is an easy place to be.
- Jose (6/5): Decent stay in Kalamata - Great location but parking is street parking with varying costs.
- KONSTANTINOS (KOSTAS) (6/5): Excellent location but very poor facilities - Although very nice historical bulilding, the interior (and rooms) need maintenance and refreshment. The room was spartan (not even a glass, a laundry bag and a small bottle of water in mini bar). The offered facilities were well beyond our expectation. Breakfast was discent and location super. Overall this hotel should have been marked as 2 or 3 (at best) star ... not 4.
- Stephen (10/5): - Very good for old town Kalamata, tradional hotel with friendly staff and good breakfast
- Kate (6/5): - My overall stay was good. The staff are conscious about the spread of COVID 19. The service personnel is professional and friendly. The room is clean and tidy. However, the property is dated and it’s starting to show. The value for the cost of the hotel is not great, especially if traveling I. High season.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Horrible.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Centralt hotell med utmärkt service - Trevligt hotell med fin service. Perfekt läge.
- DingleDaisy (10/5): A nice change from the seafront - We have been to Kalamata many times but have always stayed on the seafront though we have walked past this hotel when visiting the old town. This time we had been travelling for a couple of weeks (after staying on the front for the first few nights) and decided to stay at Rex Hotel the night before our flight home.We weren't disappointed. The reception was friendly and efficient and our room on the side of the hotel was clean and quite spacious with a juliet balcony overlooking the side street.
The hotel is situated in a great position for visiting the local bars and numerous tavernas. There is also a bar at the hotel itself with an outside seating area which offers waiter service. We were very pleased to discover that for a hotel of this calibre the price of the drinks was reasonable.
Breakfast the following morning was excellent with a great selection of hot and cold food and good coffee.
When we return to Kalamata Rex would now be our first choice if the price was right. The area is atmospheric and interesting and the hotel comfortable and very tasteful.
- trimb2019 (10/5): Kalamata - Superb, elegant rooms and very comfortable too! Had a wonderful stay with a fantastic breakfast to start off the day. Was made to feel very welcome and staff were extremely accommodating. Centrally located, beautiful and convenient!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Καθαρό .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - close to the histoorical center and the market place combines modern confort and traditional culture.
- Tracy (10/5): In the heart of the city - Excellent location in the heart of Kalamata close to the old town and lots of lovely tavernas and bars.
- TrailBlazer245909 (10/5): Lovely hotel for the city. - After having read some poor reviews we were very pleased with our stay and had no complaints with what we found. Breakfast was very good, the room was a good size and the staff helpful. The location was perfect for the city and all was easily in walking distance.
- 777SarahB777 (6/5): Great location - A suitable hotel so close to the historic centre and the bars and restaurants but so good if you are interested in being close to the sea. Wonderfully supportive staff but the general decor of the room could do with a facelift
- AlisonJ901 (8/5): Weekend break in Hotel Rex - We stayed here for a weekend whilst on holiday in Chrani. It`s not our first time here ( we stayed here a couple of times in 2014) but always wanted to return. A small hotel in a period building, it`s centrally located and near to the historic centre and the bus station. Extensive breakfast and very helpful staff who speak good English
- Scott (8/5): Great budget choice in Old Town Kalamata - Great budget option and well situated in Kalamata's Old Town. The Rex is also an easy walk to / from the bus station. For the price, all was fine - curb appeal, clean and secure. I only wish the mattresses were a bit more comfortable!
- AnnE (10/5): Sentralt, trygt og rolig - Behagelig, romslig rom, god seng, hyggelig betjening
- Antony (10/5): Great place to stay - Great location , clean rooms more than adequate. The balcony would have been brilliant but no chairs to sit on. Rather a waste, missed the view !
- Frances (10/5): Rex hotel - Very helpful staff, especially over where to park the car
- Ginevra (8/5): - Vacanza tranquilla
- Christina (4/5): The Hotel makes all the difference!! - Very old hotel! Would have a lot of charm if it was renovated!!
Centrally located!
Staff have limited knowledge about the area and events taking place!!!
Staff need to get prompted to assist you!!
For example no help with the luggage at check in and at check out !
Quite disappointing!
Breakfast staff do not even smile!!😱😱
- john (10/5): happy - all was great
- Tasos (10/5): Great stay. Great area. - Great stay despite the fact that this is not new. Well maintained and clean.
- hotel Rex (10/5): Great hotel - VERY nice
- Verified traveler (10/5): Historic hotel in city centre - Charming hotel in central Kalamata. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Would stay again.
- ANNA (8/5): Perfect location, great value! - Hotel Rex is in the perfect place to explore the Old City of Kalamata, and the beach is just a short bus ride away. It has the best breakfast bar I've seen in Greece, and the staff was very helpful. I'd stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice hotel, good location - Good location, quiet for us, air conditioning unit did not work all the way. Breakfast was okay, overall, I would stay there again
- Hugh (10/5): - An elegant and charming place to stay. All mod cons, but still feels 'classic' in all the best ways. Very helpful staff, and excellent breakfast.
- Janice (8/5): Kalamata history - The Rex is in a fantastic location so that everything is in walking distance. The hotel has obviously been a grand place and retains some of its character . The rooms are large and comfortable and the showers were good and there are great views form many rooms. The breakfast was plentiful with a good range of hot and cold foods to choose from. There was pleasant service from the reception and other staff .
A few points , I had asked for a room on the 1 st floor and was given one on the 4 th at check in. The issue was quickly resolved but really shouldn't happen. More information on buses , maps etc could be provided at reception .The tourist information office is
next door ! Lingering cigarette smells in the foyer area.? I know this is Greece so may not be able to change that. It can be noisy in certain rooms, the recent strike made itself heard, I liked feeling I was involved in Kalamata though.
All in all I think this is an underrated hotel . It holds promise and a few tweaks would make it fabulous. But it felt safe and easy .
- Peter (10/5): Fine Hotel in Downtown - Great Location in Downtown Kalamata. Breakfast Buffet was very good with ample cold and hot items. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay here again.
- John (10/5): A hotel with class in the centre of Kalamata - A friendly and helpful staff. Even the owner of this well-appointed and central hotel came to solve our initial problem with the TV. A good selection of foods for breakfast. Our balcony looked onto the pedestrian mall which leads into the historic town. For visitors travelling by bus, for instance, to the airport or to Sparta, the KTEL bus station is an easy 15-20 minute walk. In the other direction, the number 1 bus stops outside the hotel and goes to the port and along the beach before returning to the KTEL station. Should I ever return to Kalamata, I would definitely stay in this hotel.
- Richard (8/5): Good Hotel with central location - Only one night prior to flight back to UK but Hotel Manager and his assistant were enormously helpful in many ways including online check in to Thomas Cook flight with seat reservations.
Unluckily it was "White Night" in Kalamata so very noisy most of the night!! Interesting walk around all the cut price offers in the shops.
- KiriNyc (4/5): Not a 4 Star...It once was but definitely not anym - The decor in this hotel is tired. The mold is prevalent. The wallpaper is peeling off the walls. The 4 Stars are a joke. I over paid for this hotel and Would never return . The breakfast was a joke. Honestly aside from the good wifi I have nothing left to say about it.
Please upgrade the star ratings.
- Colin (6/5): Comfortable Hotel - Comfortable hotel, but a little tired. Good for restaraunts and cafes and in the middle of the town. Bus Station about a 20 min walk and a 20 min taxi ride to the airport.
- Peter (10/5): - Very satisfied with the Hotel Rex. helpful staff who were willing to contact the station for bus timetables and to recommend local sites. the hotel offers an excellent breakfast buffet. Bathroom was large and contained a bathtub, something that is becoming rare in European hotel. And good air conditioning during a summer hot spell.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nothing extraordinary. Very comfortable overall, very clean and quiet.
