Guest Reviews
- Laurie (10/5): - Very friendly, clean, and a tasty breakfast.
- Mykal (8/5): - The staff were very helpful and informative. The rooms were very clean. The only downside was that they are in a relatively remote location and so the tv options were very limited and suffered from buffering issues. But as we were only there for one night, it wasn't a massive setback. I would highly recommend getting breakfast in the morning. The Rösti was delicious!! We would definitely stay here again!
- Ronald (8/5): Critter - I’ve stayed there before and the owner is a good guy.
- Arunkumar (10/5): - The property was clean. Friendly staffs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice older motel - This was a older motel but the service and atmosphere was nice.
- Erwin J (10/5): - Chris picked us up from the Talkeetna train depot and dropped us off at the X, Y, Z lake trail head. Breakfast was very good.
- Nancy (10/5): - Recommend this place! Nice clean room, quiet and a little bit away from the center of town, but a very easy walk. Beds were great and breakfast was an option on the premises. It was fantastic!
- JAMES (10/5): - Super helpful staff. The owner Chris personnally gave me a lift to the train depot. Great breakfasts.
- bryan (10/5): - Staff was excellent, and informative.
- coyne (10/5): - The town center and shopping, dining and tour options can be reached by a short walk. Many people arrive here by train and get around fine.
If you are lookibg for luxury this isnt it but if you want a warm lkean room and comfortable bed plus an attached restaurant with really good food and large portion sizes this is it!
Id stay again in a heartbeat
- Sylvia (6/5): - The room was clean but we’re in room 21, it had an odor to it, although my husband could not smell it. The lady that checked us in was very nice, but the waitress for the breakfast was not so much. check out was easy, but instead of I hope you enjoyed your stay it was you’re free to go, lol the area was very nice and you can walk to most places.
- Iulius (10/5): - Nice, clean, friendly staff
- Margaret (10/5): - Really nice accommodations and great biscuits and pancakes at the restaurant!
- Angelly (10/5): - The owner and the staff were great!
Definitely a nice relaxing environment!!
- Suraj Kumar (10/5): - Excellent overall
- Suraj Kumar (8/5): - First time we stayed here the room was perfect but during our second stay the room was too small for a family for three.
- Rebekah (8/5): - Ok property. The cabin shades desperately need to be replaced. They are shot and do not roll back up.
The restaurant was good.
- LiteWriter (8/5): Classic family owned hotel - The Swiss-Alaska is a classic family run hotel. Rooms are clean. Breakfast dining is good. Staff and owner are friendly. Perhaps one of the best things is it’s out of the tourist swamped downtown but still a very short walk away. If you are looking for a simple, clean hotel in Talkeetna that is easy on the wallet this is it.
- Nirmal Kumar (4/5): - Flore was so dirty. There was no TV / Ac . I felt too hot. I could not sleep in night.
- Laura (8/5): - The room was clean and the beds comfortable.
We lost power in the bathroom and the bathroom door knob was very loose, would have felt safer with a dead bolt on the entry door.
- Fabio (8/5): - Comfortable beds, good location, very friendly staff
WiFi Connection was bad, especially in the evenings.
- Carrie (10/5): - Great place to stay in the woods. Check in staff was very helpful with things to do and how to get there. The room was clean and spacious, just dated. Great value.
- wei (8/5): - Quiet and simple place for one night stay. Felt a bit hot at night in July though. Close to the downtown.
- shawn (8/5): - Affordable room with quick walk to main st talkeetna
- Roslyn (8/5): - Good value for the town
- Elaine (8/5): - Clean and tidy, but dated for the $
- Martin (10/5): - The people there were very friendly. Quiet and clean, Thank you
- Gaurav (6/5): - Take the room carpet out. That will take away smell
- Jimena (8/5): - The rooms were well maintained, and clean
- Ilse (8/5): - The property is bare bones, but in a nice location with wonderful friendly staff. It was clean, but the mattesses were cheap and uncomfortable. Probably good for younger people/hikers. The breakfast was wondeful!
- Anne (8/5): - It was very quiet, enjoyed our stay.
- Shawn (10/5): - We loved this his place with a yummy breakfast!
- chris (8/5): - We had a great experience!
- andreapM9899EW (10/5): A great place to stay - Wonderful service. Rooms very clean, comfortable and quiet. It is within walking distance of downtown Talkeetna, where there is a variety of places to eat. Also, close by is the scenic view of Mount Denali.
The Swiss Alaska Inn has a restaurant that is only open for breakfast. The breakfast is wonderful with generous portions , very delicious. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Customer service was tpp notch, super informative, and suoer helpful all around. Highly reccomend!
- Cynthia (8/5): - Friendly and helpful
- Danette (10/5): - This was just a great stop for us. The town was amazing, and the little cabin we stayed in was perfect for our family. There was a little walking path that les us directly into town so we walked along the river and had dinner and walked back. We really enjoyed it.
- Keith (10/5): - Very clean and cozy cabin .
- Thomas (8/5): - Room was much nicer than we expected from the look of the exterior. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Only downside was the bed was very soft
- Ronald (10/5): - Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Plenty of hot water. Excellent breakfast. Had a different entree each of the five mornings I was there. Chris and staff are friendly and helpful.
- Rahul (10/5): - Very helpful staff at the front
- Candy (10/5): - Great family business, nice people, comfy cabins we loved the lil town of Talkeetna!!
- Kristina (10/5): - It was a charming place to spend the night. Fantastic breakfast too. Welcoming staff.
- Curtis (8/5): - Ease of checkin
- Quentin (10/5): - Rooms are just right and great area! Was clean and quiet stay. Overall was amazing experience will be back!
- Miriam Del (10/5): - Location is the best.
- Leiane (10/5): - Felt surrounded by people (not close) but so delightfully quiet at night. Staff very friendly, great stone fireplace in the dining room!
- sandrafJ3635NS (10/5): Great breakfasts! Don’t miss - We were recommended the Swiss Alaskan Inn for breakfasts and it didn’t disappoint! Seal was super helpful, sang as he cooked and served us, dare I say, the best Alaskan 2 egg breakfast we’d had in our 2 weeks travelling in Alaska!
Simple but great.
- debbierM1327FT (2/5): Horrible Alaska trip with National Geographic gadventures - It was a complete dump. There was not enough hot water, our beds were literally cots. Breakfasts were good. This was just one of several unacceptable accomadations on a family "adventure" trip with National Geographic that was farmed out to gadventures.
- 712marcym (10/5): Perfect for After the Talkeetna Bachelor Ball! - I stayed at the Swiss Inn during the Talkeetna Bachelor Ball and had such a blast. The family that runs it is so friendly, and the restaurant is SO good in the morning (particularly after a perhaps too-fun evening). Definitely recommend trying the roesti - it's a Swiss potato breakfast dish that I haven't stopped thinking about since I went. The rooms are clean and easy to find, and it's just an all-around great place. I'll be back!
- strictlysardinia (2/5): Needs refurbishment - The rooms are quite small and beyond basic. There literally is one socket behind the bedside table which is not convenient if you need to charge multiple devices. The shower is temperamental - scolding hot or freezing cold. You can have breakfast on site and the quality is actually good (actually way better than the lodge) if you care to wait for more than one hour to be served. The entire place could do with some refurbishment.
- 954sherriej (8/5): Great hometown restaurant - We stopped here for breakfast on our first morning in Alaska. It was wonderful! The waitress offered suggestions and we tried all of them. She was spot on…they were delicious. My favorite was the Swiss French toast. The service was great…from the waitress filling coffee to the busboy clearing the tables. We would highly recommend!
- Ann43325 (8/5): Clean and Nice staff - The room was clean and tidy. No television. Good coffee. The breakfast was great- french toast was wonderful! CJ was helpful with traveling tips and Denali sighting viewpoints. The Inn is a short walk to the historic downtown area.
- romanpiekosz (8/5): Full relax - Good location near center of Talkeetna gives opportunity to spend more time in town. Even it's so tiny town, there is few things you can enjoy.
Nice, clean and big room.
Because of tight schedule, we've just spent "short night" there, running up to north next morning.
I recommend this hotel.
- Nilanjan (10/5): - Ambience, cabin was well lit and clean. Loved it.
- Autumn (6/5): OK as a Last Resort - There weren't many options for lodging in the area. Out of 8 different places we stayed at during our Alaska trip, Swiss Alaska Inn was my least favorite.
If you are particular about cleanliness, definitely not for you. I spent several minutes cleaning thee tub/shower - pink mold came off pretty easily but in the end, I didn't feel comfortable using it. Plus the drain backed up. The carpet or something smelled so was not a pleasant sleep. The TV set up was useless - have to download app on phone to control but we never succeeded.
The only plus is the friendly staff who didn't treat me like an alien. As an Asian, I dealt with several instances in Alaska that my partner of Irish-Russian heritage didn't.
- Rene (10/5): Quite and comfortable - The room is very clean. No scented cleaners were used, which I am thankful for as I am allergic to scented cleaners. Bathroom was nice and big.
- JohnC596 (10/5): The Best Breakfast in Alaska - Chris Byrd and Family (including "CJ") serve up some of the best food and hospitality in all of Alaska!
Even though there was no view of Denali (white-out conditions) on our two (2) night stay on 10 &11 August 2021, my interesting conversations with Chris about his part in ensuring the alpine climbing community that funnels through Talkeetna is well tested and fed was outstanding!!
Thanks "Critter" for an outstanding stay and HUGE breakfast!! (The Bloody Mary's weren't bad either!!

- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great breakfast and awesome staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cozy and clean rooms. Hearty breakfast. A perfect place to spend a night before getting a headstart to Denali state Park. Will visit them again in the winter.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location. Very friendly hosts.
- Daoda2 (6/5): Mixed bag - Good and bad. Good is very nice staff (the owner stayed late till we arrived), and the best blueberry pancakes I have ever eaten for breakfast. Rooms were basic but very clean. Bad is the noise. Building we were in had twelve rooms over two floors. Anytime anyone closed their door (which was very often) the room shook. If they slammed it (also often) it felt like a small earthquake. Cheap for Talkeetna but in retrospect should have paid more for a better hotel.
- kansasrod (8/5): It has all the essentials - Comfortable beds, one-cup coffee pot, free-book shelf on back porch, good shower. Although there is a TV it is not hooked up to cable. The TV in the front IS so just get dressed if you want to watch TV. Breakfast is also in the front. And there is a nearby trail to take you to the Main Street.
- 513SM (8/5): Comfortable family-owned inn - Comfortable room with lots of towels, a mini fridge, microwave, and wifi. Very small room, and there is not much to do in Talkeetna, which is a tourist trap. The Swiss Alaska Inn is a comfortable place to stay if you are passing through the town.
- JimM272 (10/5): simple and astounding - this is an old lodge with other lodging options as well. It is family owned and operated. It is fairly old and simple and it is totally charming. The staff could not be nicer or more accommodating. There is a great breakfast in the morning. A small bar. It is more like visiting a friends cottage. It is close to downtown and meet airport, as if they could be far apart in Talkeetna. It is open all year and caterers especially especially to climbers on Denali.
The main lodge is old, something you would’ve expected to come upon in the 1960s. It has high speed Internet, no television and none of that matters because the staff makes up for it. We would highly recommend it unless you’re all concerned about not getting the last and most updated Fox news report. The lack of television is great
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved this place. There is no TV but why would you sit in your room and watch TV in Alaska anyway? The owner and staff were super friendly, the breakfast was excellent and the room was clean and comfortable. Also within walking distance of downtown.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property and room were a little bit dated, but the location to downtown Talkeetna was excellent, and the owner very pleasant with useful information at check-in.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent breakfast! Great staff! Will stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great little place to stay, the owners were amazing, the bed was super comfy, water pressure was good, great location, you can walk to downtown. No Tv but great wifi, also excellent breakfast serve for a cost in the restaurant on site. I will definitely recommend
- okanv2021 (10/5): Great place in Talkeetna! - Our large family gathering had an amazing time at the Swiss-Alaska Inn!
Short drive from Anchorage, perfect for an audio story. Easy to locate in Talkeetna and walking distance to shops and other restaurants.
The staff at the inn are so hospitable and serve tasty breakfast. We felt like family.
The rooms and bathrooms are neat and clean. The inn is an older place and style, but it is in the country. Most importantly it’s clean and taken care off!
We liked that the inn had many rooms under one roof and each room had its own bathroom and shower with a common area for us all to gather.
- withlovefrombrooklyn (10/5): Cosy and breathtaking stay - Chris the owner of Swiss Alaska Inn is a wealth of local knowledge and made such wonderful suggestions to help maximize our team’s trip- from spectacular local viewpoints, activities and tasty restaurants in town. The accommodations are cosy and toasty and reminiscent of a Swiss Chalet. We even caught Aurora Borealis off of the balcony. Wifi is strong a great for managing zoom meetings and calls. Can’t wait to come back, again and again.
- Amanda (8/5): - Great little cabin! The only thing that wasn’t so great is that the sheets looked dirty when we went to bed. Just stains we think. The host was awesome and gave some great advice about the area.
- Jean (6/5): - GOOD - The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Juneau coffee in the rooms was tasty.
BAD - The lodging itself was disappointing. We found hairs in the mini-fridge and in the bathroom. The beds were hard and squeaky. When any guests in our building used the restroom, there were loud knocking noises through the pipes. Also, there were exposed wires where the smoke alarm once was.
- Verified traveler (10/5): nice place - Clean, quiet, classic, great value in a convenient location and friendly owners.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This property is walking distance to town via an ATV trail.
The staff is very friendly and approachable.
The inn itself is not much. The beds are very hard and the frames try to flip when you sit on the end of them. The plumbing is insanely noisy. There were mattresses stacked in the hallway.
We were charged for a third person in a room that easily fits 4. I was warned upon arrival that the TV wouldn't work. It did have working wifi.
I heard from locals that the restaurant breakfast is great, but I didn't personally try it.
- Jeff (10/5): Great stay. - Great service. Very friendly staff. Clean room. Real good breakfast. Will return.
- Harry (8/5): great value, will use again. - Room was old but very clean. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Restaurant food was excellent. Web site needs to be updated to clarify that room has flat screen ‘monitor’ no television service. Location was great for us, short cut trail to Main Street and short walk to Mahays boat dock. Did not get in room coffee replenished after first night.
- Amanda (10/5): - What a cozy, friendly place!
- Dave (6/5): Ho Hum - We just slept in the room.
- Brigitta (6/5): good visit. - The property needs upgrades. Service was excellent. TV service needs to Be reinstalled. Nice location. Peaceful. A bit expensive for the room. Rooms need renovated. Super nice manager/owner.
- TonieP (8/5): - Typical Alaskan stay -- nice people. Friendly service. Not problems to report, overall nice stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We loved the jacuzzi tub.and bed. Didnt like that there was no tv.
- Lisa (10/5): - We were visiting on an extremely busy weekend. The Inn was booked...Chris was so wonderful and accommodating I would have thought we were his only guests. Swiss Alaskan Inn staff was a pleasure to interact with and the property was well kept and clean. Thanks Chris!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean, warm, and quiet. Friendly staff. Good proximity to Denali Glacial flight.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lots of space. Walking distance to everything. Nice visit
- Eraina (10/5): See you soon! Again! - The Swiss or our stay place when visiting Talkeetna for over 10 years. So thankful to be able to support locally owned business. Chris is always so accommodating, and welcoming. Even if Talkeetna is a drive by, stop in for the delicious breakfast. See you soon!
- Deborah (8/5): Lean but no TV - This is an older hotel and it shows, but great room for the price. Very clean! Was disappointed to learn at check-in there was no tv
- bissigerhund (10/5): cozy place to stay - The Swiss Chalet people came to fetch us at the Gold Star train at arrival after having them phoned from the railway station, which was really very nice of them. We did ask them ahead of time if this would be possible.Same, they also brought us back to the station when we had to leave.
Its a cute country Inn, it has a restaurant, the rooms were cozy and clean, we slept well. And above all its not even a 5 min. walk to down-town.
- WHSnell (8/5): "Nice room on a budget" - There are not many Places open in Talkeetna during the winter, Swiss Alaska is. We only stayed here one night and this place met our needs perfectly. The rooms are basic but clean and the bed was Comfy. The staff was super friendly and accommodated all of our needs.
- Terra (10/5): Clean and comfy - This place is great. Its dated, but super clean and not run down at all. The food was amazing as well.
- Helena (8/5): Overnight birthday stay - Amazing charming place, helpful staff, restaurant on site, great place to stay, walkable to downtown
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was very friendly and it was very peaceful. I would recommend
- Edward (8/5): A decent place - The room was small, but if you're traveling all the way to Talkeetna just to hang out in your hotel room, you're doing it wrong.
The bed was fine and I slept well. On the bad side, something was wrong with the TV, so I couldn't watch anything.
The hotel's restaurant is a good value for the money by Alaskan standards.
I would stay here again.
- Eraina (4/5): - We are Alaskan’s
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very helpful staff. Excellent breakfast and appreciated WiFi
- Robbyne (10/5): Comfy, cozy gem in the forest. - Beautiful location. Loved the room. Clean, cozy and comfortable. Walking distance to town. We traveled by train and were picked up at the depot making it so convenient. Highly recommend this lovey place with a wonderful staff. We will definitely return.
- AndyVobora (10/5): Saved our bacon - The folks at Swiss Alaska were super friendly. The accommodations aren’t spectacular but it was clean and met our needs. Easy walk to downtown Talkeetna. What saved us was the staff driving our bags to the train station with five minutes notice. Our jet boat trip arrived back twenty minutes late, so why we ran to train station, the Swiss Alaska staff delivered our bags and informed the station attendant we were in our way. Great service!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a convenient place to stay. The people were so friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice staff and good service. The property was old but livable
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely location with an excellent, friendly and accomodating staff!
