Guest Reviews
- Sethi (7/5): -
- Reinmar (10/5): What an amazing place.... - To be honest, what is not to like about this property. From the moment we stepped into the lush gardens and were greeted at the beautiful reception, we knew this was going to be an amazing stay. We originally booked the Ocean View Loft, however were upgraded to the Ramaya Suite on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the lawns, gardens, and sea. Dinner is served on your patio or in the garden, which ever you choose. And it was actually a nice concept for us that there are no formal dining / lounge area, as your suite is your home for the duration of the stay. The service from everyone was superb, friendly, and nothing was a problem when asked. I must also commend the chef, as we ate at the property twice and both nights the food was amazing. The last night we spoilt ourselves with the Southern Sri Lanka Mud Crab curry, and we both agreed that it is probably one of the best dishes we've eating in a long time. It was an absolute amazing stay for our 3 nights and 3 days at this property. It really as the fitting end to our holiday in Sri Lanka, and we loved every minute of it. Thank you to all. In our suite the one sliding door was stuck and didn't work, but that cannot deter from the 10 rating.

- Jess (10/5): Amazing stay, worth every cent! The service from when we got there to the second we left was incredible! We could’ve sta - Everything! The beautiful staff, the location, the view, the food, the service/hospitality! We felt so special the entire time. Absolutely nothing.

- Samantha (10/5): A relaxing and wonderful stay in an excellent location - Beautiful property and location. Our room was fantastic. Wonderful staff and service. Pool was brilliant. Loved having a couple of glasses of wine at the wine bar on site. We had a brilliant day cycling around on the bicycles provided.
- Andrea (10/5): Lovely property with a short walk to lovely little beach. Good food and friendly helpful staff. - Beautiful property set in wonderful gardens overlooking the sea. Fabulous breakfast. Lacking communal space in bad weather.

- Gabrielle (10/5): Peaceful and calm with breathtaking ocean and sunset views - We had a wonderful 5 days at Eraeliya Villas for part of our honeymoon trip. This was our first stop so we arrived really tired and groggy after the 20 hour flight but we were welcomed with fresh juices and smiling staff.
The building itself is absolutely stunning but the main show stopper is the outdoor area - probably the most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed in! The view of the ocean was like no other that we found during our time in Weligama. We sat on the bean bags most nights to watch the sunset as we felt that had the best view!
We stayed in Ocean Loft and the room was beautiful. Most importantly, the bed was so comfortable so we slept well every night. The staff offer a turn down service and they left us little gifts every evening which was really kind and thoughtful.
A special mention to Sudeeshka Sandeep who was so friendly and welcoming and he made us feel at home there. (He also makes amazing vanilla iced coffees!)
We would not hesitate to come back to Eraeliya Villas! Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality :)

- Elizabeth (10/5): Paradise! - Everything was perfect - the room, the facilities, the food, the service and the attention to detail. Our stay was so special and it was the most beautiful place we stayed during our travels! I loved the interior design of the entire space, everything is so well thought out and lovely. Nothing - everything was perfect.
- Anna (9/5): Best hotel to watch sunsets - The views were immaculate, with the best spot to watch the sunset! Great breakfast options, which you’ll need to preorder the night before. Their homemade jam is soo good! Not really about the hotel itself, but more about the tuk-tuk drivers outside. I ordered an Uber, but the driver called me to say he couldn’t enter because it was considered ‘tuk-tuk territory’ and had to cancel the trip. I ended up taking an overpriced tuk-tuk in the rain with all my bags, simply because Ubers aren’t allowed in that area. Unfortunately, the hotel security didn’t seem to care or offer any help when I asked
- Tim (3/5): Overpriced and no where near 5* - avoid - Beachside location Plot is tiny, rooms small (Loft House), services non existent, no restaurant, no bar.
- Jenny (9/5): -
- Wanpiti (8/5): -
- Helen (10/5): A beautiful, special and memorable place, 5 🌟 - Oh my goodness, everything was so special. . From the minute you are greeted at the door , arriving into such a beautiful entrance hall ~ we were so beautifully looked after by every member of staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Touching extras too ~ like frozen face towels and fruit skewers by the pool, to little gifts left at “bed turn down”. We stayed in the Samaya suite with a stunning balcony ~ where breakfast was brought to us . The balcony is huge and also had a large sofa area to relax and have drinks or chill. Particular mention to Kavindu who looked after us beautifully and spoke perfect English too. Always greeting you with a smile.
I would highly recommend this hotel. They are about to open the most adorable little wine bar overlooking the sea, which will be a great addition . We can’t wait to return. The prepayment requests seemed unusual , compared to other hotels. But now having experienced the beauty and specialness of Eraeliya Villas…. It is not a worry at all.
- Abinaya Dhivya (9/5): Had an incredible time, lovely rooms, service and private beach - It was a stunning stay, I look forward to coming back. It was cozy, the team at Eraeliya were friendly and service was great! The tuk tuks control transport in the area which made it very annoying as a traveller - they wouldn’t allow e-hailing vehicles to come in, and asked for high prices because they control the area. This was the one downside about my stay there.
- Chistin (1/5): Total Disappointment - The hotel COULD be 10+ but with current management, it is 4-.
However, there are some exceptional employees. Special thanks to Deen who was always lovely and helpful. Also the massage therapist Kerti is very good, although the location of the spa is bad (in a ditch with noise and bad smells). The employees are kind and trying their best, although the whole operation is disorganized like "Fawlty Towers" on steroids. This stay can only be described as a total disappointment.
We had carefully selected this hotel as it was our honeymoon. A few days prior to departure, a state of emergency was declared in Sri Lanka due to flooding. We tried contacting the hotel, which proved difficult. Either they were simply ghosting us, promising to get back to us (but never did), or we had to constantly chase them. We had prepaid approximately $2,500 for one week's stay. We did not ask for a refund, simply asked if our booking could be postponed by one year. Not possible. The only option offered was to re-book the stay within Q1 of 2026. After much juggling of schedules, we finally created alternative dates, and then they did not have availability! Joke.
We did go there eventually and it was totally different from what was promised. The hotel clearly stated on its website it did not allow children below the age of 12. Imagine our surprise when on the first morning we wake up on screaming child in the pool directly under us and construction noise on the hotel grounds. There was no pre communication of the construction. We inquired from the management and were given poor excuses. When asked about the kids, the management ensured they would be checking out the following day. True - but there were about 5 new screaming / crying toddlers checking in! So we ended up spending our entire honeymoon on a construction site with kindergarten. To top it all off, the hotel tried to overcharge us on the transport (felt like scam) and we got sick from the special menu they offered to us. They did comp us for many things, and whilst the gesture was appreciated, we were not after freebies, just what was promised and unfortunately not delivered.
- Nain (7/5): -
- Dominique (9/5): -
- Sampathkumar (8/5): - Excellent location. Great vibes They couldn’t find the reservation for a long time. Had to ask them multiple times for dinner menu. Double charged for room and reversed. Charged in $s instead of rupees and reversed. So clumsy
- Joao (7/5): Beatifull place but uncomfortable because of the room we stayed - Arquitecture of the main house. We stayed in the Garden Loft. Avoid this room for one reason: the room shared a wall with the kitchen so its very noisy untill late. One other major question, concerning mosquitos ( they were so many: impossible to sleep) Mosquito net its a Good solution if the hotel install one
- Caitlin (10/5): -
- Stuart (10/5): - The setting is incredible! We stayed in a ground floor room which opened on to the infinity pool, the immaculate grounds and the ocean. The beach access is a bonus too, we regularly swam and snorkelled on jungle beach before breakfast.
The room itself was spotless and serviced regularly, with a very comfy bed and great shower.
The food/drinks we had were all first class as well - it's slightly pricier than elsewhere, however given the location and quality we believed it was worth it. Breakfast was huge and there's a big enough selection to allow you to have something different each day. I wish we stayed longer!
- Keshav (3/5): Beautiful property; but the experience didn’t come close to what was promised. Hugely disappointing. - The property itself is gorgeous - truly beautiful grounds and an incredible location. The natural setting and the physical space have so much potential; that part is undeniable. Everything beyond the setting fell short. The poetic story on the website did not match reality. The property was under renovation (workers right by the pool), and we were only told after making a non-refundable booking.. made the whole place feel uncomfortable and unfinished.
Our original Garden Villa was poorly designed (like no space to keep your bags/clothes); we were moved to the Beach Hut only because we were the sole guests on the property. Staff were kind, but clearly new and super uncoordinated. Overall it felt like the property should have been temporarily closed until management fixed all these things.
Except the breakfast, the food was very mediocre. Best to ask the chef what he can make fresh! Some staff even suggested we go out for dinner; we ended up dining at Cape Weligama twice and loved it. Also strange: being asked to plan the next day’s meals while still eating the current one.
This was meant to be a special trip for us, especially with my wife pregnant, so the experience felt even more disconnected from what we were promised.
Bottom line:
A hugely disappointing experience for the price point. I wouldn’t return unless they’re far more transparent during the booking process and the renovation is fully complete. None of this felt like a staff-level issue - the underlying problems are clearly at the owner/management level. Charging premium rates while openly doing renovation work and offering a sub-par experience isn’t fair to any guest. The beautiful words on the website don’t match the reality, and that was the real let-down.

- kunasekaran (9/5): Good place to stay -

- Gabriel (7/5): Beautiful hotel that is rough around the edges, ultimately overpriced for the service provided. - Excellent location and beautiful property grounds.
Easy access to a lovely and basically private beach.
Beautiful pool. Service and housekeeping need to improve - below par for a hotel in this price range
No property orientation
Staff around the pool were lovely and helpful, however front desk staff were generally unfriendly and made simple requests (eg having pool umbrellas set up or providing extra towels) seem like a chore
Villa was set up in a bizarre way - one side of the bed needed to climb over the other person to get out of the bed, no bedside tables, and light switches nowhere near the bed.
Terrible hot water - the centrepiece of the room is a massive bathtub, however several attempts yielded lukewarm baths at best.
A pieczywo stare, podgrzewane i suche. Absurd. Zero jakiejkolwiek zielenini, sałaty, pomidora. Dramat.

- Märt EE (10/5): - Beautiful seaside garden and villas, beach access. Local chef and food was 🆗, although grilled fish was bit overcooked. Service was kind and location is calm for relaxing vacation.
- Ilaria (10/5): Beautiful hotel with great staff, would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing stay in Weligama - Lovely pool and garden area. Great bed! We liked it all
- Barbara (7/5): Didn’t Match the Online Impression - I booked this hotel mainly based on the beautiful images shared on Instagram — their marketing is excellent and immediately caught my attention. However, shortly after arriving, I realised that the overall experience didn’t quite match the online impression.
From the moment we entered the reception area, something about the atmosphere felt off — it’s hard to describe, but I didn’t feel comfortable or welcomed. My uneasy feeling only grew during check-in. From the security guard at the gate to the reception staff, no one smiled, and the entire process was silent and rather awkward. This was surprising, as my previous experiences in Sri Lanka have always been filled with warmth and friendliness.
After settling into our room, we discovered there was no hot water in the shower. We reported it to the front desk, but as the issue couldn’t be fixed, we were asked to move to another villa within the property. The team kindly offered us a bottle of wine as an apology for the inconvenience, which we appreciated.
At dinner, we were surprised to find that the restaurant prices were quite high — even higher than some London restaurants. Naturally, we expected the quality to reflect this, but unfortunately, the dishes didn’t quite meet our expectations; the prawns were a little tough and the noodles were overcooked.
Another disappointment was that our booking included a 20-minute massage and a $10 property credit, but the front desk advised that they didn’t have this information in their system and therefore couldn’t honour it. I showed them my booking confirmation, but they still declined, so I am currently in discussion with Booking.com to resolve the matter.
Unfortunately, the overall atmosphere of the property just didn’t feel right for us, and combined with the bad weather, we decided to check out after two nights instead of the three we had planned. The conversation with management

- Giorgia (10/5): - The staff was very helpful, gentle and present! Really high quality structure and service! Thank you so much! All perfect!
- janice (10/5): A magical stay, with Sunsets, monkeys, peacocks and genuine staff eager to meet every requirement - The location with infinity pool with view and access to the ocean. The serenity, layout and staff were impeccable we loved everything about this property
- Suzanne (10/5): -
- Al-naimi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cowan (10/5): Looking for the most relaxed beachfront break this is your next destination - Boutique, private, immaculate, friendly staff n/a
- Marie (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed in the main house upstairs, and the room was amazing. The house itself was one of the most beautiful I’ve seen in Sri Lanka. The grounds were incredible, with great finishing touches and a beautiful setting. But most of all, the service was exceptional. Truly, nothing at all was at fault, it was exceptional. It was a truly memorable time, and I will certainly be going back. No issues.
- Nicky (9/5): We had an amazing time here. Location was superb, right on the coast with access to a beautiful beach. Staff very attent - Location and style Would have liked an outdoor shower maybe
- Senuri (9/5): Superb -
- Samantha (10/5): Breathtaking location, incredible service and staff, luxury ! - The whole stay was incredible, from check in to check out. The property is extravagant, the location is truly breathtaking. We were treated extremely well, special thank you to Dulshan as due to low season and not having many guests we were very blessed to have gotten a room upgrade! Included in our booking was a complimentary 15 massage, thanks to Renuka and her amazing massage skills, it felt like an hour and was so relaxing. Also a big thank you to Rex and Sadun for being extremely helpful and lovely in assisting us in whatever we needed, and Tharaka. Shower floor got filled really quickly and we had to pause the shower as to not flood the room (despite the drain not having any blockage or debris). Otherwise everything was amazing
- Jo (10/5): The most amazing stay on the south coast of Sri Lanka! - Such a beautiful, colonial style property with an amazing view of the sea, and a small beach you can walk right onto. The pool is beautiful and so relaxing. Our gorgeous room opened up to the pool terrace and we had a delicious lunch and breakfast overlooking the pool and sea. The staff were unbelievably attentive, Sandun was a fantastic server, with a great smile. He made sure we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend staying at this wonderful boutique hotel.
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eva (9/5): Paradise :) - Pure paradise! The garden at this property is something else... a beautiful sanctuary (in an otherwise pretty hectic town) with an amazing view over the sea and easy access to the beach. A really lovely place to relax, eat and sunbathe, we didn't want to leave! The food is absolutely delicious, the rooms very comfortable, and the staff incredibly accommodating. We will recommend this to anyone visiting Weligama. It's a little expensive for the area but for us it was worth it.
- Taryn (10/5): - Beautiful stay, this place is surreal like a postcard dream. I have stayed in different hotels and Eraeliya is the best hotel in Sri Lanka
- Charles (10/5): Perfect! - Perfect stay at Eraeliya. Hotel in a great location just outside of Weligama centre. Great pool and garden. Most importantly the staff were excellent.
- Joshua (10/5): Pristine, sublime, wonderful. The list goes on! - My partner and I concluded ten days of travel around Sri Lanka at Eraeliya Villas and Gardens and we were blown away.
The property is pristine, the gardens are spectacular and the villas and pools equally as beautiful. We stayed in the Ocean loft, a modern, airy and spacious loft with modern industrial decor with a Sri Lankan twist, it was nothing short of brilliant.
The pool is sublime and looks out over a beautiful stretch of the Indian Ocean, with a private beach behind there’s no shortage of space to lounge and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Eraeliya’s staff go above and beyond to ensure your stay is comfortable and nothing short of perfect, their attentiveness and willingness to aid in anyway they can made this stay truly special.
To top it off the food is great and there are plenty of options. The breakfast was particularly amazing and was something we looked forward to every day.
The hotel is situated just outside of Weligama, it is a 15 minute tuktuk ride to the popular towns of Mirissa or Ahangama, where there is plenty to do of an evening if you wish to leave the property. But if you wish to stay you can also make use of the spectacular spa service to take your relaxation to the next level.
Eraeliya and its staff have a special place in our heart after our short stay and we will without a doubt be returning.
- Lilli (10/5): Amazing boutique hotel - Our best stay in Sri Lanka! Beautiful hotel, pool, great breakfast and very friendly staff. Would highly recommend and come back if we are ever in Sri Lanka again Nothing
- Graeme (8/5): Beautiful property and great room . Very relaxing although a bit of price gouging on extras - Beautiful property right on the water - very relaxing and staff were amazing once we got over a hiccup at check in . Amazing breakfast ( not included in room rate ) Lots of good restaurants in Weligama and Mirissa which is a quick and inexpensive Tuk Tuk ride away Everything in $US which is not very “ Sri Lankan”Laundry prices extreme when you can get 2 kg of laundry washed dried and folded for the equivalent of $2.50 100 metres outside the gate
- Kelly (9/5): Beautiful Villa. - Amazing stay and our room was beautiful. The staff were really friendly and helpful.
The only downside - our toilet smelt quite badly in the room and the location outside of the gates didn't feel very safe.
We felt for the price we paid, maybe a slightly bigger breakfast could have been served, as only able to choose 1 item from the list provided. Also not enough sunbeds on the lawn to accommodate all guests.
- Simona (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the facility and staff were great. Our room was very dark.
- Lewis (9/5): Superb -
- Faisal (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (10/5): A surreal experience! - the property is exceptionally located with a high level of attention to detail in terms of design, furnishing, and comfort. The setting is beautiful and the direct beach access is great. The staff are attentive and make you feel at home - a special mention to Rex who made the stay as great as it was! Nothing
- Marina (10/5): Beautiful hotel with high service level - We enjoyed one day in the beautiful place. Villas and the main building are well decorated. Territory is clean and relaxing. Beautiful pool with a great view to the ocean. Rooms are good enough but to get the most of this hotel I would better book the room on the second floor of the main building. Breakfast was nicely served outside, food was good. Beach is easy to access but there is no sunbeds from the hotel (they are on the main territory near the pool). You can get better beach a bit aside from the hotel.
Price is high but this is really an exceptional experience
- Kristy (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place to stay, really lovely and attentive staff. Gorjus location right on the water, excellent meals and a nice and spacious room. They also have a spa on site and the massages were really good.
- Sam (10/5): Absolute paradise! - Heavenly stay from start to finish. All the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The experience is very intimate. The garden is incredibly tranquil and the views are amazing. Could not recommend this hotel more. Special shout outs to Sandun who was so attentive and helpful (first class service), and also the young woman who was front of house and the hotel manager who made our stay extra special.
- Yasmina (8/5): Beautiful getaway in the south of Sri Lanka - The pool is beautiful and it’s a beautiful hotel for a getaway. Our first night, the draining system did not work in the shower so our whole room was flooded. However the staff was very nice and helpful and upgraded our room for the next day. I must say it’s an expensive stay for Sri Lanka.
- Savchenko (10/5): Excellent place, three private beaches! Borw - Everything!!!!
Hospitaity, colonial style of villas, cuisine, spa, very professional people in management (special thanks to Vidushi Tharaka, who supported me in anything, gave best recomendations, even I lost my jewlery in SPA - they found for me), its my sevond stay in this hotel and im dreaming to come back! nothing - no black spots !!!!
- Blackmore (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachael (10/5): Beautiful villas and view - The hotel is beautiful and the view even better. Every morning you can enjoy their delicious breakfast while looking at the sea. Food is amazing - some of the best we ate in Sri Lanka. Staff are so lovely and kind - Sandun and Rex were wonderful. You can walk down to the local beach. Tuk tuks outside to take you wherever you want to go. Highly recommend, we absolutely loved it.
- Katia (9/5): Superb - Beautiful, classy & stylish boutique hotel facing the sea.
- Lucy (10/5): Sri Lankan Paradise - This is such a lovely hotel, from the moment we arrived the staff were extremely attentive and the location and views are just breathtaking!! We had a ground floor room opening out on to the pool area and direct access to the sea. The room was spacious with a huge shower and good air con and fan options (not too noisy). We've been to Sri Lanka before so didn't feel the need to venture out for excursions and we were so well taken care of at Eraeliya we ate there 4 out of 6 nights, the food is very competitively priced as you receive a discount on all food and beverage. The menu isn't huge but everything we tried was really tasty and freshly made. There are lots of lovely places to sit around the grounds it feels more like staying in someones house than in a hotel, we would gladly return! The only minor issue was the pre-payment taken before our stay which is unusual and I found a little confusing but there was good communication throughout so don't be surprised if you're asked to pay up front, it appears to be the norm here.
- Simeom (7/5): Amazing vibes but overpriced and limited options to est out nearby - The vibes at the property were spot on and pictures don’t do justice to it. The pool area and the garden feel like sanctuary that you will never want to leave. The managers and hotel staff are also super helpful and friendly at all times! Although the breakfast and generally food quality was very good, the hotel charges some insane prices compared to the level of London or New York and there’s limited options to eat out anywhere outside of the hotel. On that note, if you want to go to the city centre of Weligama or some other spot to eat out you need to deal with tuktuk drivers stationed outside of the hotel. They try to charge you insane prices and you need to haggle with them constantly which was a massive turn off as we came to the hotel for an idyllic gateway, and not to argue with some crooks. Best part, when we ordered a tuktuk through PickMe (a local app similar to Uber), the local tuktuk drivers ran up to him, threatened him and made him turn away and we couldn’t take it. Later that evening, one of the “tuktuk bosses” approached me and asked me where I was from and why do I refuse to pay a “fair” price… this felt almost like a threat but was coming from a 45 kg 18 year old so was kinda funny… I am not sure to what extent the hotel collaborates with these clown tuktukers and from reading on Reddit it seems like it’s a Srilankan problem overall, but the hotel should ensure that their guests are able to choose the means of transportation they prefer and not being forced to take overpriced rides from local clowns.
- Jeevan (6/5): good food and staff, but horrible room - The food and the staff were excellent I think we got a terrible room, but they shouldn't be selling a room like the one we got. The wash basin was inside a closet and so small. Even the toilet was out in the open which is fine, but wouldn't know what we would do if it rained.
- Camilla (10/5): Exceptional. - We had the most amazing 3 nights. It was truly an exceptional experience. The hotel was beautiful, so peaceful and I loved how there was no restaurant so we ate breakfast outside our private hut, had lunch around the beautiful gardens. The food was completely delicious. Sandun was a particular star, he went above and beyond and always had the biggest smile on his face. He is truly a highlight from our stay. We stayed in the Muhudu Bella Hut and it was sensational. Fantastic massage as well. Beautiful views and a hotel that I will always remember.
- Marinko (10/5): Looking forward for annother visit - Our stay at Erealiya Garden Villas in the Ocean Loft was magical. The eclectic, thoughtfully designed interior filled with charming details like daily water changes, towel swaps, and a sweet Sri Lankan candy surprise made us feel right at home. It’s a peaceful jungle retreat that soothes both mind and body.
The staff went above and beyond, ensuring our comfort in a place where everything is already perfect. From cold towels and fresh fruit to daily chats, their kindness truly made our stay. It’s worth noting that the entire team – from the gardeners to the cooks to the security staff – work harmoniously to create an exceptional experience. The complimentary nadasve was a lovely touch, and the facial I booked was so relaxing I dozed off during the treatment.
The breakfast options were amazing. Everything was so fresh and flavorful, it will be hard to satisfy my tastebuds when I return home.
However, we did notice some behavior from other guests that didn’t sit well with us. The staff is incredibly hard-working and pure-hearted, always going the extra mile without being asked. It’s disappointing to see rudeness or arrogance directed at them, as kindness and respect should always be the standard.
To the owner: Be proud of your team. The warmth and joy of the Sri Lankan staff made our experience even more special.
The villa’s location is perfect – away from the tourist crowds but just a minute from the local beach, complete with a bar and a surfing school. We loved borrowing bikes to explore and meet locals. When my mom had a surfing injury, the staff was incredibly responsive, helping us find medical care and even arranging breakfast for us when we couldn’t make it back in time.
One suggestion for the Ocean Loft: adding anti-slip strips to the stairs would improve safety.
In summary, our stay was extraordinary, and we’re sad to leave. Erealiya Garden Villas is a truly special place, and we’ll definitely return!
- Mohona (9/5): Superb -
- Bosco (9/5): Superb - The environment was good, the breakfast was good and the staff service was good. The wifi signal is very bad.
