Guest Reviews
- Ihelpubreathe (10/5): Great stay in Maggie Valley! - A beautiful quaint motel that is very reasonably priced. Clean room, comfortable bed, friendly staff. Will definitely recommend and return.
- Bonnie (8/5): - Small but was just right for what we needed. Air conditioner needs improvement.
- Trudy (8/5): - The property was great. Room was great. Their WiFi was not working properly was the only downside.
- Lisa (10/5): - Small and quiet. Very friendly staff..
Will stay again..
- Robert (4/5): - Looks nothing like the pictures. Rooms are clean but just like the entire property, very old and unmaintained. I would not stay there again.
- Michael (6/5): Aboutright - For the price it was what to be expected. Small microwave and mini fridge. No coffee pot like usual hotels or motels. Out of date builtinheater and out of date window ac unit that was falling apart and held together with duct tape. Booked a room for five people and they only had two towels in the bathroom. Pool wasn't open which was not great. Had to request more at office. All in all it's was appropriate for the price and last minute booking
- Joni (2/5): Dumpster - Place looked like an absolute dump. No one was there to check us in there was a sign to just go in the room. We felt very unsafe and there was no one there when we left.
- Becky (10/5): - Great place to stay with friendly helpful staff
- Adam (8/5): - It was a nice place
- Frank (10/5): - Nice folks
- Kathy (8/5): - If you like old fashion style, this is it...
Friendly folks that works there....
The only thing they need to update is their wi-fi...gotta go outside to get any signal...lol....
- Jon (10/5): - This property is clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Close to most everything Maggie Valley offers, whats not to like!
- bjlupold (10/5): Anniversary - My husband and I stay here every time we come to the mountains. The owners have always been very hospitable from the first time we stayed. It might be every couple of years before we visit each time, but to wake up and drink coffee and watch the sunrise over the mountains is very beautiful and dear to us. That is why we spent our 10-year wedding anniversary here.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great Staff & Super Clean - Horrible Internet & TV - We enjoyed the room that had a comfy bed and was super clean. The appointments were simple and adequate. The staff was very nice and enjoyable to speak with. They have chairs outside each of the rooms where it seemed most guests chose to spend some time enjoying the evening out there, being social. We enjoyed that.
The not so good, was internet/Wi-Fi and the TV. T-Mobile has virtually no signal at this location so for us to map out our next day's plans, getting onto the motel's Wi-Fi was important. Nothing in room 3 and very hit and miss service when stepping outside. It got no better at any point between our room and the office. What little I did get, while standing in the parking lot, was super slow, lacked sufficient connections, constantly disconnected and used very outdated security. I got better signal from the neighboring motel, across the street restaurant and cars driving by on the main avenue. There simply is no excuse for Wi-Fi being that bad and that outdated it this type of business. The world series was on and the TV cut out and needed to be switched off and on several times during the game.
Finding good service and a team that does quality work is the hard part and they got that right. Having functional internet and tv is the easy part, but that part they didn't get right.
- Thomas (6/5): Not the same - We have stayed here in the past just not the same, bathroom flooring needs replacing, ceiling falling down, air conditioner not working.
- Sheryl (10/5): - Loved the chairs outside had that quaint back home feeling. No complaints. Exactly as described.
- Amanda (10/5): - The property was close to all the attractions I had planned to go to, it was clean and well kept, friendly staff, plenty of parking, and the pool was great!
- Dave (10/5): - The owner is fantastic!!
- dustingD1268PB (10/5): Quite clean and cost effective - Room was small but clean and the owners and workers were super nice, pool was the cleanest hotel/motel pool I have ever seen. It was a great place to spend the night! We would definitely come again! We were on a motorcycle to if it helps!
- Vernon (10/5): - It just what we wanted.
- Deborah (10/5): - Our room was clean and inviting. We had everything we needed. Staff was fantastic. It did seem cluttered outside the property. Maybe a shop or something on the premises but it was quiet. We would definitely stay again.
- helen (6/5): - This place does not charge what expedia told you it would charge. Very old but appeared to be clean. Ok for a 1 night stay.
- craig (10/5): - It is an older hotel but it has been maintained very well. nice firm bed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved everything about this motel friendly folk's my third time staying and will be back in the future
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good location for the things we did
- Laura (10/5): My review - We really enjoyed our trip everyone there was really friendly and plan on rent a room from Tammy again
- Verified traveler (6/5): Skip it - Checkin is time is limited. The place is very noisy all night long.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff, quite and clean!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cute little hotel with very friendly staff!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quaint, very conveniently located,
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything was great except the sheets, they were small with plastic underneath which was making them uncomfortable
- Evana (10/5): Comfortable getaway. - Very friendly staff had everything prepared and clean for our stay. The atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable and all of our needs we met. Price was very affordable for the peaceful stay.
- Justin (10/5): Recommended - Would come stay again. Very clean rooms. A little old feeling but great place and nice people run it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I like everything about it.
Very clean location, quite
- reginadhartley (10/5): Weekly Home Away From Home - I stay there every week for work, and I love it there. The owners are so sweet and kind. They give discounts for veterans, military, and educators. That really helps a lot! It is very clean, comfortable, and I feel very safe there.
- Anthony (8/5): C10 Nationals - Room was clean, everything, fridge, microwave, a/c, worked. Owners and employees were pleasant and helpful with recommendations of were to eat, shop, etc.
- CHRIS (10/5): - great people, clean room!!
- Johnny (4/5): Don’t stay here unless you have no choice - The motel bills itself as retro which I discovered is just a way of churching up the fact that it is terribly rundown. No way to secure the door to the room other than the turn knob on the door handle. Anyone can jimmy the catch with a credit card. We had to prop a chair under the handle to feel safe. The air conditioning is just an old window unit that literally sounds like it’s about to take off into orbit. It did sufficiently cool the room. The beds were not horrible. They were thin memory foam mattresses that should have been supported with plywood or some other flat even support. The platform it was on was a metal grid and the softness of the mattress meant you felt every support bar. The floor was dirty and sticky and looks like it hasn’t been mopped in ages. All of our feet were black from it. The toilet was small. Looks like it’s was out of a camper. The seat wasn’t the right fit for it. It had a small kitchenette that looked like it came out of the same 1975 Winnebago. Drip pans in the stove were rotted out and lined with foil. The one great thing about the place was plenty of hot water and the pressure was phenomenal. If you’re asking yourself why did we stay, the answer is because of Labor Day weekend and every place within an hour was booked up. We stayed two nights and the room was never cleaned. Someone at some point did bring fresh towels but didn’t make the beds. Oh and there were little note reminders everywhere asking for gratuity for housekeeper. Seriously?
- BohoGypsy_LR69 (2/5): Total Dump - This is a nasty, old motel that needs some serious upgrades. The concrete pool is older than my grandparents. It’s a cheap place if you’re ok with subpar sheets and paper thin towels. I didnt even know you could buy cardboard mattresses. Unless you want to sleep standing up, I would not recommend. Choose a chain. Rent an airbnb. I can only say this place is GRODY.
- chegyesi (10/5): I stayed here 3 weeks, wonderful owners and a great place - I want to say thanks to Loretta who kept my room spotless for 3 weeks and who always had some nice words for me.
I also would like to thank Tammy who let me stay another week even when she probably could have got more money renting my room daily.
This place is nice and clean, has a great pool that I enjoyed.
First time I left a review, i feel that these people deserved it!!!!
- ClarketonMotel (10/5): - Love it nice rooms everyone was nice and frindley lovely view Cant wait to go back
- Sheena (10/5): - Everything was great. Clean room, friendly staff. Will definitely stay again.
- Joe (6/5): - The people at the desk were very nice, but the place was very dated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location. The property is a little dated but it is being kept up. The facility was clean and warm. Will consider staying there again.
- Mary (8/5): - Comfortable clean quiet
- Kyle (8/5): Highly recommended place to stay. - Very clean and comfortable place to stay, all at an excellent price and the service was top notch. Only complaint would be the paper thin walls that kept us up due to noisy neighbors arguing and watching t.v. into the very early morning every night.
- Rachel (10/5): Awesome - The best
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Although a little dated or as I like to think Retro. It's more wow for the buck. Quiet and peaceful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean. Parking was a little aggravating with all the motorcycles parked there
- Tod (8/5): Good Alternative casino motel - Quick trip to casino and Motorcycle museum.
- Greg (8/5): Just coffee - A bit dated, but it was ok. Only spent an overnight. No breakfast, just coffee.
- Troy (8/5): Nice but small rooms - The room was very small and very stuffy. Deadlight the Coca-Cola shower curtains. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. It's a good place if you don't plan to be in the room that much on your drip. Just not enough room to move around.
- William (8/5): - had a nice stay
- Sheila (4/5): - I was really disappointed. No bathroom counter space. Just a sink. And no closet to hang clothes, just a lil hook on the back of the door. And no table. It was a very clean lil place though.
- Camper18436724460 (8/5): Thunder in the Valley Bike Rally - Upon first look one would be a bit hesitant about booking a room but it was a nice place. Rooms were clean. Bathroom had been remodeled at some point. The staff were really nice and friendly. Would definitely stay again.
- 851jessicay (10/5): Great Place! - My boyfriend and I stayed at The Clarketon Motel for a weekend, and we both loved it. Very homey room, very clean, friendly people, and great location. The rooms are dated but that made it even more fun. It was very quiet and peaceful. Hands down my favorite motel I’ve ever stayed in.
- 886tonyh (10/5): Roomy and cute - Great staff. Worked with all our request. I recommend it to anyone. I was very pleased. Roomy and cute it met all expectations plus some. Clean and very convenient to everything in Maggie valley . I would definitely stay here again.
- Junie (10/5): Clean Rooms - Enjoyed our stay. The owners were very friendly. Room was a little dated but very clean. The shower had been updated which was nice. We received excellent customer service. Would definitely stay again.
- 138pamelak (10/5): No frills, inexpensive, friendly and clean! - I found this place on Trip Advisor. Like everyone else has mentioned - it's clean! That's my biggest concern. No coffee pot in the room but there's coffee in the office. Staff even provided us with clean rags to clean the bike! Walked across the street for dinner. Great place. Would stay again!
- 844jeanniel (8/5): Great place! - We stayed here for three nights to visit family and really enjoyed it! The rooms are VERY clean and the bed is comfortable. The rates are quite reasonable, especially for that area. The decor is a bit retro which is perfect. You just can't beat a motel room with a rocking chair outside the door to sit in and soak up the beautiful scenery! The only downside: there was no coffee pot in the room, but it's a short walk to the office from any of the rooms, which are all ground level. There is also a pool which we didn't use, but it looked well maintained. The hosts are friendly and welcoming. It's close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and places like Asheville (without the traffic of the city). There are also some great restaurants nearby. Overall, it's a really great motel! We'll certainly stay here again the next time we're in Maggie Valley.
- Crystal (8/5): - Nice clean rooms
- Barton (10/5): - Nice hotel. Very clean and close to restaurants and had a good view of the mountains.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Owners - The owners are great people friendly and helpful. The hotel is nice, the room was clean, bed comfortable and shower hot. Good location for hub to ride from great rides just minutes away. Recommend the Clarketon to all motorcyclist looking for a good place hang your helmet.
- C7870RHsharona (10/5): Great place to stay! - We were in the area for a wedding and found this place online. It is surrounded by the smoky mountains in a beautiful part of North Carolina. If you don't mind dated rooms, this is the place for you. The things that are important Dash friendly reliable service, cleanliness, comfortable beds, safe environment, are all in abundance here. We will certainly stay here when we are back in the area! Can't go wrong staying here.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Great hostess, needs major updates. - The owner was extremely nice and hospitable but the motel was very run down and needs major updates. Not just to the exterior but the interior. The bathroom was horrific, we were afraid to shower. We were also concerned about the cleanliness of the bed linens.
- hurcanekatrina (8/5): Nice quiet place to stop - We stayed here for a night in order to go the North Carolina side of the Smokies. It was a comfortable stay and would stay again. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay close to TN and not to crowded Maggie Valley is it.
- Brooke (4/5): Wont stay again - The owner was very unorganized and the office was a mess. The rooms are crazy small, hardly anyroom. And the shower was not cleaned, old soap was still in there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean, friendly, affordable, rustic. - The hotel and rooms are not fancy, but they are clean and it is quiet after 10:00 at night. The atmosphere may be a bit rustic, but that goes with the general atmosphere of the area. The front desk staff are always very friendly and helpful. Call ahead if you are going to be checking in after 6 and they will be glad to have someone meet you at the desk. The hotel has a small pool out front, but no lifeguard. Their rates are very reasonable, especially if you book ahead during leaf viewing season. We have stayed there overnight several times when passing through and always had the same experience. Most of the hotels in this area cater to motorcycle bikers, as does this hotel. But most of the bikers we have encountered have been nice and quiet after hours. I have had no reason to feel uneasy or unsafe around them. It isn't a 5-star spa hotel, but the prices reflect that and for an overnight stay it is just fine. Book early! The number of rooms are limited and usually fill up fast. We will continue to stay there as our hotel of choice when passing through the area.
- 434LindaA (10/5): Great stay - We have just returned from a four nights stay at the Clarketon in Maggie Valley. It was great Tammy and Phillip are excellent hosts. It is a clean and comfy place that the hosts go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
- TammyB2563 (10/5): Takes me back! - This motel reminds of days as a kid staying motels! You know, the days when a motel room was a room to sleep and shower, not spend all day in! It has a bit nostalgic comfy feel. Super clean, comfy bed, and great water pressure. Service is excellent and love sitting in the rocking chairs.
- PoodleMomma (8/5): Clean and Quiet - My husband stayed at The Clarketon this past weekend for a spur-of-the moment trip to the mountains. It is an older, mom & pop style place. Our room was small with a queen size bed, but very clean and comfortable. Nice rocking chairs to sit in outside the room, and a small fridge in the room but no microwave. Coffee was available in the lobby every morning. The lady that owns it is extremely nice. It was a good value for a tourist town. As long as a place is clean and comfortable, aesthetics aren't a big deal to me.
- 487philk (10/5): BRA rally - Excellent place to stay. Stayed Mon thru Thur nights, excellent price, clean well maintained rooms, covered porch with rocking chairs for each room.Trailer parking, motorcycle's welcome. Owners very friendly and helpful. I will stay again.
- lisa_wcollins (10/5): Midweek multi-night stay - The Clarketon is perfectly situated with easy access to nearby the Blue Ridge Parkway and other beautiful roads for motorcycling. The room is a great value; the hosts are welcoming and genuine. The coffee in the morning was a good jump-start, the pool was refreshing and the rockers on the porch were relaxing. We look forward to our next Maggie Valley Clarketon stay.
- GrandpaGene (8/5): Old fashioned - both good and bad - Memorial Day weekend is not the time to find nice rates in Maggie Valley when there are both bikers coming in and geocachers from all over the world. I found a decent rate here and took it. The property is 1950s both inside and out in many instances. Several reviewers mentioned the owners and staff and I can only totally agree - they are great. My room had no desk - no fun for both my lap top and my blood pressure instrument. I asked - they found a folding tv tray which worked great for both. The bed was just right as were the pillows. The room had a small flat screen tv, a small dorm fridge, and microwave. OTOH, the bathroom sink appeared to be a kitchen sink and the only grounded plug was in the bathroom. I went out and bought and adaptor - then was told I should have asked. Do that if you come.
If you have a problem with bike riders, this is not the place to stay. But all the ones I saw were friendly - and I did not introduce myself as a former rider.
Not sure I will be back in Maggie Valley any time soon - but I didn't think I'd ever be back until I saw I had found some geocaches there. If I do return, I believe I will see if room 2B is available again.
- djc02 (10/5): Like family! - The wife and I are so happy we discovered this place. You are treated just like family. Cozy rooms, ample parking and quiet. Owners take extra effort to get to know you. We enjoyed the fire pit with other guests and the at home feel that's provided. We will be back guranteed! Biker and Veteran friendly, American owned. Take a moment to know daisy duke, one awesome St. Berdoodle.
- Q73NJsandrac (10/5): Short trip - This motel is a small older motel, but it has been updated some. It is exceptionally clean and the bed was comfortable. Owners are nice and very welcoming and helpful.
If you are looking for a 5 star place, keep on looking, but, if you want a clean, comfortable place to sleep and take a bath that won't break the bank, this is the place!!
I looked at it because of the previous ratings and found they are accurate. We will stay there again.
