F7368EJambert (2/5): Yuck! - We stayed here for my mother-in-laws Funeral, it was a disaster from the day I booked it, front desk lady was ignorant on the phone and when we got there, it was run down and dirty, there is black mold in the bathroom and we were not able to shower, the air conditioner stunk when you turned it on, and the pool is NOT heated, it was colder than the lake and we had to stuff a towel in the blinds to have some privacy as they were broken, I have emailed the "Resort" no response, Expedia has reached out, no response, I have moved forward with another agency as I believe we should be refunded for our stay... Horrible, will never stay here again EVER!!! Unacceptable for the $400.00 we paid for 2 nights and we spent as little time there as possible

When I checked in, i greeted her nicely but no response, took my payment and gave me the room keys.. Didnt even gave me the wifi password.. I thought it may be available in the room but isnt. I didnt manage to go back and askes as I dont want to deal with her anymore.. such a negative vibe. The properly itself is old and smell old as you enter the room, however, good customer service can make up for it.. On check out, same lady manning the office, I greeted good morning, she greeted me back with her eyes glued to her computer.. I said Im checking out took my keys and thats it.. We have been coming back to Penticton every year.. This is our first time at this property and we will never come back.. I will not recommend it to my friends either.
Julie (8/5): - The motel is older and the staff have done a great job to maintain it. The location is amazing right across from the beach. That’s what sold us! We got a free upgrade without asking and the staff were very friendly and very accommodating. Highly recommend for a summer destination
Karen (8/5): - I think they need to sweep the patio on the upstairs close to the door so sand doesn’t keep getting into the room. Also, there’s a lot of cobwebs. Otherwise, the rooms are clean. The staff are great.
Jeanette (6/5): - The building and furniture are old. The mattress is comfortable, but the bed frame squeaks. Our room had a lot of fruit flies, and the couch was dirty—good thing I brought my own blanket to cover it before sitting. The cutlery and cookware are also quite old. We’re not very meticulous, but cleanliness is very important to us. On the positive side, the front desk staff was nice, and the location is close to the lake.

Amber (2/5): - The outside of the "resort" is run down, the pool is NOT heated as their sign states, there was black mould all over the bathroom, it stunk, the blinds were broken, we had to put a towel in the window for privacy, terrible stay, would not recommend and I have pictures and will ve contacting BC Interior Health Services, definitely will be requesting some compensation, nit worth $200 a night, id gauge about $60 a night and a mould warning
Heidi (8/5): - Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Carmello was awesome checking us in. Location was perfect. Pool was not heated, very cold. Room was what you would expect for the price. Nice to have options (different hotels with different price points).

Dustin (8/5): - Decent little motel literally 50 feet from gorgeous okanagan lake beach. Our suite had an amazing lake biew as it was on the second floor facing the beach. Room was clean, had a full kitchenette. Mattress wasn’t the best but heard good reviews on the sofa bed. Definitely bring extra pillows unless you like to sleep on a single pancake pillow. I asked for extra and was told they weren’t available. The property is nice and well maintained with multiple BBQ’s available for use. Pool was decent but was unheated.

Carol (4/5): - The bed was nice and firm and the room was clean. Staff were nice and people were having fun by the pool. The location is great. It is "dog friendly" but there is no dog area on the property - all the signs say no dogs and the sign in sheet says they will keep the deposit if there is any hair on any furniture. The condition of the property is very poor. It looks like they started renos and ran out of money, then went to the thrift store or garage sales to equip the suites with tacky stuff. There were no towel racks and an unstable cabinet over the toilet with no room for towels. The towels were different colors and looked second hand and were stacked in rolls on the beds on arrival. The shelf on the shower insert was uneven so the shampoo would not stand up. The superfluous floor lamp was unstable and looked unsafe. There are no charger outlets or power outlets near the beds. There is an ice bucket but no machine and the office sells large bags for $4 that don't fit in the tiny freezer. There was also a tiny empty ice tray but we didn't use it because it would have taken overnight to make ice.

Our washroom wasn’t working they said the handyman was gonna show up in 2 hrs never came. No towels garbage can anything in the rooms. Very poor service. We had called and asked for side by side rooms and they said over the phone it was and when we got there to check in it wasn’t. When I asked the lady she said well is not! No other explanation. They say things over the phone but when you get there the reality is not what they promised on the phone
Erika (4/5): - The older lady at the front desk had an extremely rude attitude towards our family from the moment we arrived, and that attitude continued for the duration of our stay. The room was alright however floors had not been mopped or swept prior to arrival and there’s a spider problem in the rooms as well. Our pillows were very flat and had weird spots on the cases. Only nice thing about this place is the distance to the beach and the older gentleman who was so kind. Overall , very frustrating experience for the price we paid and I would not go back

Deborah (6/5): Please hire staff to clean up and help the old man - Upon early arrival at 2 PM I was told to come back at 4 and the room would be ready. I came back at 4 PM to be told it wasn’t ready to come back at 5. I came back at 5 and was told it still wasn’t ready because most people done check out until 11:00 AM. Well that then needs to be a concern of the owner/s to have the appropriate number of housekeepers on at that time to be able to have all rooms ready for check in time at 4:00 PM. The older gentleman that finally checked me in apologized but did not offer any compensation at all. I should not have to ask for this. He is a very kind gentleman who makes you feel you shouldn’t ask for compensation. There is not enough staff working to maintain Golden Sands as it should be. The exterior of the buildings look very shabby with run down not taken care of staircases with cobwebs, dust, dirt and debris including sand and dirt. In desperate need of cleaning. The room that we were given it had broken and bent blinds. The beds were directly in front of this window that people could see directly in while walking the upper balcony. I actually had to use a container lid for the bigger opening and I had to wrap toilet paper over the other broken blinds to help from people seeing in. There was no sink in the bathroom. There was a counter with microwave and coffee maker on it that also had the sink to use after using the bathroom. Dishes and dish detergent were sparsely supplied so I guess it has to be used for both. The location is a 5 star.

Timoteo (8/5): Trip to Penticton - Our 2 night stay at this motel was safe, convinient & comfortable. We had all the appliances we needed in the room, the aircon was cool, comfortable beds & washroom clean with hot/cold water. The Okanagan Beach is just across the street, with restaurants & shops close by. The city centre is walkable & it's easy to drive coming from / heading to Vancouver, Kelowna or Osoyoos. Absolutely a great value resort motel.
Tara (2/5): - We booked this motel with realistic expectations—just two families looking for a budget-friendly place to sleep during a fun trip to Penticton. Cleanliness was our only must-have. After reading mixed reviews and calling to confirm that the rooms were clean, we felt reassured and went ahead with the booking. Unfortunately, what we found was the dirtiest motel we’ve ever stayed in. There were spider webs and baby spider nests all around the building and inside the room. The smoke detector was missing, with exposed wires in the ceiling. The ceiling fan was close to falling off the ceiling onto us as we slept. We found empty vodka bottles in the nightstand, beer cans filled with cigarette butts in the kitchen cupboards, stained sheets with food crusted into them, and dead bugs lining the windows. We asked staff to clean the room again, and they did, but when we requested some compensation for the first night (which we spent cleaning), they repeatedly said they had to contact the owners—yet no one followed up. Adding to the concern, there are no security cameras on the property. Another guest told us an $8,000 adaptive tricycle was stolen overnight. This place clearly doesn’t care about cleanliness or safety. We’ve stayed in older motels before and had no issues—like the Riverside nearby, which is aged but clean and cared for. This motel was simply filthy and mismanaged. I rarely write reviews, but this one had to be shared. Please do not stay here.

Aysia (4/5): - Definitely would not stay here again, the check in was confusing and difficult. Once we got to our room there was no parking available on the property. The room was not clean, there was a tiny sheet on a mattress that looked like someone may have bled out on it, stains everywhere. A/c is ineffective and loud. Seems like there’s black mold on the ceiling. Dark, and dirty. The ONLY bright side is how close it is to the beach, and near by shops. Water pressure in the dirty shower is great also. Spend the extra $50 and go to a nicer place.

G2944ZFcassandram (2/5): Scam. Dirty rooms. - Be careful of this place! We called ahead to confirm the room we were staying in was pet friendly for our anniversary one night getaway. They ensured us we were allowed our dogs. We paid $100 for a pet deposit for damages (if occurred). When checking out the woman at the front desk told us we would not be refunded due to pet hair on the bed. 1) anyone who has pets knows that there is no escaping it. Whether they're on furniture or not 2) No one told us the 'rules' for the 'pet friendly' rooms. I guess just make sure you have a hairless animal if you stay here or don't bring one at all. They hold you to expectations for room upkeep that they cannot achieve themselves pre check in. Therefore the deposit is a scam. Our dogs did not destroy any of the already delapiated furniture. They did not urinate or deficate on the floors. Our dogs are more well behaved than most children (no offense). Most adults have a tendency to be more destructive during their stay. The room was not cleaned to begin with. The floors were filthy, there were stains on the walls and the mattress. The place seems to have not been serviced in awhile. DO NOT NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF, RIPPPED OFF AND STAY IN FILTH.

90chandraa (2/5): - We had a 5 day stay booked recently and my husband had work come up that we couldn’t get around. I called to find out what the cancellation fee would be if we chose to cancel, or if we could move the dates. The staff I spoke too had no answers for me, was very short with me and not personable at all. I expressed that nothing she said was actually helpful to my questions and she said “well I’d have to contact my boss and find out” so that was fine, I gave her my name and number. She called me back THIRTY minutes later telling me she needed a cc for the cancellation fee. She hadn’t even told me the fee still at this point. I had to call my husband for the cc number so asked her about moving the dates so I wasn’t calling him multiple times interrupting his work day.. she then informed me that she had already cancelled our stay and it was already rebooked so changing days wasn’t an option. I was quite upset and explained AGAIN that I wanted to know both things so that I could make the decision on what we would do with our reservation. Her response was “oh well I guess you weren’t clear”… now I’ve worked in customer service my entire life. I’m not an unreasonable person and I understand that mistakes happen. I would have been happy with a simple apology for the misunderstanding, regardless of it was sincere lol. But the complete lack of empathy like it was my fault and not hers was ridiculous. She was very rude and spoke to me like the entire thing was my fault. The same staff then contacted my husband the day after our reservation was supposed to be to tell him we missed our reservation. He was at work and busy so I called her back and said this is the same reservation that YOU cancelled on us and told us that we couldn’t have because you rebooked it. Her response was “oh yes, I wonder why my system says this. Well they didn’t show, do you want it back?” Still not an ounce of accountability or apology.
Lisa (8/5): - Only stayed the evening - got in late and then left fairly early. Check in and check out was easy. Pet friendly and affordable. Is across from Okanagan Lake, so great place to walk along the beach.
Shealin (2/5): - It was across from the beach. And the bed wasnt terrible. Douglas at the front desk was a treat! Was more then accomidating! I dont know about normally, but the debit machine didnt work. Had to pay for my room with either credit or cash. Very dated, and had a sudtle smell of cigarettes and mold when we first entered. We checked the AC units filter and almost puked. I dont know the last time, if ever it had been cleaned. There were burn marks in the sheets on the bed. Pretty sure the pillow are from the grand ipening in 19 .. 70's? Also, if you are used to sleeping on anything bigger then a queen, good luck, you are getting a double. The pictures on the website are NOT what most of the resort looks like. Familes we talked to during our stay have said the resort has declined drastically in recent years, and they wont be returning.
Jason (4/5): - The place was filthy. The nightstand was covered in dust and other unknown substances. Stains covered our pillowcases. The dishes were dirty, had hair on some utensils, and had popcorn bits on them. Will not be sleeping in this dirt ass motel again.

Kimberly (2/5): - Dirty!!! dead bugs everywhere, dirty glasses and coffee cups . Towels and bed linens were horrible . Everything is run down and in horrible shape . Would NOT recommend staying here .
Rhonda (4/5): - Well, when we entered the room, there was a towel on each bed and then there was a dish towel and then what was supposed to be a face cloth. Dish towels are not acceptable hand towel in my opinion. Especially ones that were stained. Very powerful industrial cleaner smell that did not dissipate. However, when I got out of the shower and walked across the room a couple of times my feet were very dusty/dirty, which means there was not a quick mop done to the room after the previous guests. In my opinion. I can’t pretend that the bedding was adequate. Old and quite well used. I could expect this from an $85 room but not a room that was close to $200.
Ron (6/5): - This is a dated motel that should have had a reno probably 20 years ago. The bed was likely original to opening day and the pillows as they were, seemed better designed for a couch. While there was a coffee maker, there weren't any of the pre-made pouches provided. I booked about 5 days ahead of our stay and the price was $169. The before our stay I looked and the price had dropped to $99. I mentioned this to the staff but there was no reply. On the plus side, check in was 5 minutes, the room was clean as much as we could tell and the location of the motel right beside the lake was nice. We were only there for one night, and I suppose if I had to do another last minute booking, I would stay again, but I would fight harder for the discounted rate.
Conrad (2/5): - I would never come back at this property. The staff was a little fishy. Took my credit card number manually. Very weird. The washroom curtain was sp dirty. Room smells lile someone smoked on it. Stay away from this hotel.
Dustin (10/5): - Staff is very accommodating and friendly. Much better than the big chain hotel. Will definitely be recommending and staying here again.

Sharon (6/5): - The location is excellent . The bathroom fan did not work . There was one sink outside the bathroom which was for both bathroom and kitchen use . The a/c was VERY NOISY and needs servicing . The window blind did not work so we had to cover the window with towels at night .
Sarah (4/5): - Great location and decent A/C is the only positive. The motel is falling apart. Pool is leaking into the parking lot. Mattress was very hard and old. Thin old bedding and crappy pillows. No towel rack or toilet paper holder in the bathroom due to being broken. Bathroom door barely closed. No ice dispenser available or beverage machine. Several broken appliances littered on the property. Front check-in office is hoarded with supplies, very uninviting. $230 for 1 night, 2 adults & 2 kids.
Anna (8/5): - A good location at the beach, Okanagan Lake, just across the beach. Room was simple but quite large. Had Tv, 2 burner tove, coffee maker. They could probably add a little more kitchen stuff to to the room and a sponge to clean the dishes. Owner was helpful an broght exgtra glasses and a salad mixing bowl. You can wal to a grocery storeand also to dowtown. Good restaurants and coffee shops nearby.
Kristin (10/5): - This was our first time staying at Golden Sands! Doug was there to welcome us when we checked in. He made us feel like family the second we entered the office. He was kind and had tons of suggestions for restaurants. He was personable and chatted with my six-year-old, who immediately became a big fan of his :). He was helpful and attentive our entire trip. Thank you so much, Doug! I also left my hair straightener behind, and Doug went above and beyond to get it and mail it to me on his own time. The Hotel is old….. Like every other hotel around there, however, it’s extremely clean and kept up-to-date. We had a very nice room with air-conditioning and a kitchenette. There is an outdoor swimming pool that was a bit brisk but very much needed as it was around 36° when we were there. Golden Sands is now going to be our family’s go to hotel! Thank you Doug for providing a level of customer service that went above and beyond!

Meggie (6/5): - The ceiling fan in our room was falling down and unsafe to use which was unfortunate because it was hot weather and would’ve been useful. As well, the safety sign/firemap or whatever it is right beside the door was shattered glass and half missing - could’ve easily sliced a finger - needs to be replaced asap. Everything else was great and beds were comfy!

Maggie Foxx (8/5): - Great location as close to the beach and restaurants. Could be cleaner a specially outdoor, to enjoy seating outside. Housekeepers were in rush to prep the suite, no toilet paper and forget collecting garbage in the kitchen. Otherwise they have amazing staff in the office and excellent customer service over the phone. I wish they had individual table outside of the suite or more seating “patio” outside. With full parking it is hard to find any space. I would come back again

nmeyer1616 (2/5): Worst Ever - If there was a zero I would give one. Room was filthy, floor was so so dirty. We had 2 forks in our room and a million plates. Maybe they should do a room check after check out to ensure each suite has items. Anyways that won't save anything anyways as we will never be back. Someone pooped in the pool thank god we never thought about going in as we had no idea how sanitary it was. Garbage everywhere, bbq areas were filthy. The laundry room was piled up and looked like there was zero clean towels. They actually were smelling them before handing them out!! Golden Sands since Heidi has left time to shut it down. Oh and the parking lot has become a scrap yard for items that are broken in rooms.
Rangery (2/5): Dont book your stay - We were expecting that this place will give us satisfaction but to our dismay, manager at the office was making calls instead of checking in the people who are waiting for him… toilet dont have any toilet tissue, towels is worse than our rug at home… under beds are not just dusty but lots of garbage.. I like the place coz it is very near the beach, but i will never book any stay in this hotel again…
kaylene (6/5): Standard stay no frills - Basic motel, good location on beach. Had to ask twice for bedding for pull out couch bed and still didnt provide pillows then had to ask for them. But over all good hotel for beach with a full kitchen.
kim (6/5): - Was nice to have a full kitchen. They did have a toaster as well as a coffee maker I just wish that was listed so I didn’t bring my kettle. The bed was springy when u first climb in but didn’t feel them once laying down however every turn u made was uncomfortable and squeaked. The ac was soopppp loud I didn’t sleep the first night at all. Other than that great location and was clean. Oh also the sign in the cupboard said there would be a 25$ charge if we didn’t clean our own dishes which actually just grossed me out….im glad i pre washed the cup I used n the one spoon. Can’t trust others.
