Guest Reviews
- Chris (10/5): Amazing hospitality, very comfortable and amazing local food. - Everything Nothing
- Peter (9/5): A LITTLE BIT OF PARADISE! - Beautifully positioned Oceanside and felt like a big family home. Breakfast was first class. The name Satin Doll - sounded somewhat dubious! Staff couldn’t tell us why it’s called that!
- Владимир (10/5): - Satin Doll truly feels like a little piece of paradise on earth. Everything about our stay was exceptional — the interior design, the beautifully maintained grounds, the location, the housekeeping, and every single member of the staff. The nearby beaches are also wonderful, and I highly recommend taking the stairs down from the property to the shore and walking to Mieripe Beach.
I have to give special thanks to our manager, Chana, who deserves a separate mention. He made our stay absolutely magical. From the first moment to the last, he was incredibly kind, attentive, and helpful, and he handled every request with genuine care and professionalism.
The food also deserves its own praise. Every single dish we tried was outstanding. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner — everything was consistently delicious. The prawns were unforgettable, the best French toast I have ever had, and honestly the best Bolognese I have ever tasted — and I have had Bolognese in many places.
The chefs at Satin Doll are truly gifted. The food was so good that we completely lost interest in eating anywhere outside the hotel.
We had a wonderful stay and would return without hesitation. None at all. Its a GEM!!!
- Aditya (10/5): - Staff was very attentive and non intrusive. Rooms were very comfortable. Food was exceptional. Portion sizes were bigger than we expected.
- Arabella (10/5): Our stay at Satin Doll was pure magic — peaceful, indulgent, and made unforgettable by the incredible staff - Satin Doll, Unawatuna – Absolute Perfection
Satin Doll is the most tranquil and beautifully maintained property we have ever stayed in. Set right on the water, with only five bedrooms, it offers a rare sense of privacy and calm. You can rent the entire villa with friends or family, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet on your own — either way, it feels incredibly special.
The food is absolutely outstanding. We highly recommend the Sri Lankan breakfasts and the curries. The portions are wonderfully generous — we found ourselves ordering far too much each time, but had no regrets. You can easily share, or indulge completely like we did. Either way, you will be gleefully satisfied.
And the staff… the staff truly make this place unforgettable. They are the warmest, kindest, most attentive people we have ever met. Nothing is too much trouble, and they made us feel so genuinely welcome and cared for throughout our stay.
We have travelled extensively, and Satin Doll takes the cake as our favourite place we have ever stayed. It is very, very special.
Do yourself a favour — stay here. You will not want to leave. Nothing it’s perfect.

- Montserrat (4/5): Reservamos estancia de 2 días y pretendían cambiarnos de habitación cada día así que anulamos -
- Natalia (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff, delicious food, beautiful location, comfortable bed, beach nearby, beautiful garden, calm and peaceful.
It was the best holiday ever. Nothing

- Philippa (10/5): Luxurious beach side tranquility with amazing staff and elevated decor that compliments the natural beauty of the surrou - Absolutely everything. We stayed here for a week of sunshine chills after a non-stop first week travelling around SL. The location is idyllic, a few steps to beach, across a beautiful garden with amazing flora and fauna. We ate breakfast every morning in the incredible pagoda overlooking the beach, eating incredible food (possibly best fruit platter I’ll ever have in my life) and watching the waves and the stilt fishermen. The people who worked there were all angels, so friendly, so helpful, with lovely energies. The rooms were unreal; with an attention to detail that is second to none. The darling little pool is lovely to cool off in the sun, and if we ever wanted a bigger swim, we were allowed to use the sister hotel Elysium’s pool- just a 20m walk along the beach. We spent our time lazing in the hotel gardens or visiting the surrounding beaches - just 30ish mins away from Mirissa and Weligama, and less than 10 to Unawatuna. We would highly recommend this place to anyone, especially those who enjoy places that are close enough to the hustle and bustle, but far enough away to enjoy peace and tranquility when you want it. We will without a doubt be back one day. Thanks so much to the Satin Doll team and extended Elysium team
- אורית (10/5): - הכל שירות מפנק צוות מקסים נקי מאוד יפה ונח .
- Ilea (10/5): Exceptional - Staff very friendly and helpful. The food is very good.
- Lady (9/5): Excellent clean, comfy and welcoming boutique hotel - Such a lovely boutique hotel (they only have 5 rooms) We were the only guests, so we had a great service from the staff. The breakfast was the best we have had in Sri lanka during our 3 week stay. Very varied and delicious. We had dinner at the hotel a few nights and all food was excellent. The bed was super comfy as were the pillows. Access directly onto the beach which was clean. A short walk along the beach to a couple of beach bars. Lovely hotel garden with tree shade if required, with sunbeds and towels. swimming pool is a little on the small side, more a plunge pool really. Big step down into the pool, which was fine for us, but might cause a problem for anyone with mobiity problems.
- Victoria (10/5): Great hotel . Faultless . Delicious breakfast. - Situated on a lovely part of the beach . Be aware that due to the reef, it's not suitable for swimming but plenty of spots nearby.. It's suitable for a dip. It's lovely to hear the waves crashing in at night
Staff are fantastic, and the Sri Lankan breakfast is a must try - delicious ! All breakfast options were delicious.
Nice plunge pool
Very clean rooms with mossie net and tea and coffee
Very comfortable bed
- Karen (9/5): Superb - Lovely hotel with garden overlooking the sea. Really quiet and secluded. Staff really helpful and friendly, we had breakfast and dinner in the pagoda in the garden with the sound of the waves. Lovely room and bathroom, birds and monkeys to watch and the sea on our doorstep.
- Livesey (10/5): Luxurious oasis of tranquility in a perfect location - This place is a true oasis of luxurious calm set amidst the hustle and bustle of the local town. Damith (the manager) and his small but amazingly efficient team do everything to cater for your needs with the minimum of fuss. The whole place is kept spotlessly clean, the rooms are gorgeous and comfortable. The garden, which leads directly into a small beach, is picture perfect. I could genuinely write chapter and verse about the food - simply outstanding! Having the option to dine inside, outside on a shaded table or in the delightful gazebo that has uninterrupted views out to sea (idyllic) just somehow makes the food taste even better! As the place only operates 5 rooms, it feels like everything is a personal service which, to a large extent, it is! The decor is fresh and relaxing. There is a permanent Tuk Tuk driver outside the gates to ‘whisk’ you away to wherever you need to go and a Tuk Tuk is the only way to travel short distances in my opinion (<5 miles). I simply cannot fault this place and almost don’t want to recommend it in case it becomes too popular and I can’t get a room when I next need one! Having said that, I have never felt better relaxed after a trip (and I’ve travelled a lot) than having stayed here so unreservedly recommend this place if you are thinking Galle or Unawatuna for a holiday - AMAZING! Absolutely nothing! If you forced my hand to come up with something, the pool could be bigger but that’s not enough to move away from a score of 10
- Tom (7/5): Good -
- David (10/5): All we could ever want from a small hotel - It is no exaggeration to say this is possibly the best small hotel we have ever stayed in. Our room and terrace led on to an area of grass and trees in front of a fence overlooking the ocean. We ate at a table nearby, while cute palm squirrels played and monkeys visited above. The quality of the food was very high - notably the egg hoppers at breakfast. The manager and the other staff were all delightful and most helpful. Nothing.
- Nataliia (10/5): It was wonderful!!! Beautiful place, view! Wonderful Personal. I want back! - All. Service! Food! View! Relax!
- Margaret (9/5): We loved it all - We loved our stay. The staff were wonderful and we ate supper there every night as the food was excellent. Best breakfast ever and best mango I have ever had and I’m old! Peaceful and beautiful. Wonderfully comfortable beds and pillows. Nothing
- Valerie (9/5): Peaceful calm hotel with amazing views - Beautiful calm hotel, lovely garden overlooking the sea. There are only a few rooms so it is quiet. We had breakfast at a table they arranged looking at the sea. The room was a good size with a big bathroom. Staff were very kind and helpful. The pillows were not great. Nothing else negative to say at all.
- Harriet (10/5): We will be back - We had the best stay of our holiday here. It was superb in every way.
We had been non-stop prior to our arrival so we did nothing, but eat, sleep and relax here.
The food was also some of the best we'd tasted while in Sri Lanka.
Thank you. Having to leave
- James (5/5): Shabby & Tired and dogs allowed in POOL! - Quite amazed by previous reviews, which to be fair was reason I booked, so I have included photos for you to make up own mind ! Swimming pool (pic attached) is not a swimming pool it’s plunge pool at best more of a pond in reality, but for me the owner allowing his many dogs to swim in the pool is not very hygienic and when challenged on this, he replied that it’s perfectly acceptable for dogs to be allowed in pool because he runs a boutique hotel! (I’m still trying to work that remark out) Pic of the pina colada is how it arrived I not drank any or touched it and they charge 12 usd for that, it was shocking! Pic shows the water (described sauce) my Spaghetti ragu was floating in.
Not exactly welcoming or any information given on arrival, first impressions of outside is poor and it don’t get much better on inside….staff don’t appear to be very happy, (which was later confirmed) Rooms very tired and dated, as is the all the property Many Mozzies in rooms, to save cost the hotel turns of the plug in mozzie protection in rooms during the day! (Penny pinching in the extreme) Dined on New Years Eve at sister venue some 500 yards away, food was shocking, attached pic shows beef (claimed to be Wagyu) swimming in blood, Chef never heard or resting meat clearly! Charging 150 usd for bottle of cloudy bay white wine and 180 usd for bottle of tattinger that’s higher prices than Maldives who only charge 120 and 150 for same on 5 star resorts! New Years Eve eve dinner had no background music playing and was just dead with no ambiance at all, service was erratic and slow, nothing resembled menu the ol evening was all a sham and money making exercise ! I informed owner of all these problems, of course he did not like comments! But that’s another story but pictures attached confirm all the above, so make up own mind Does not seem a happy venue like 99% of the places in Sri Lanka whatever the standard you choose to stay and Locals say it used to be good venue with previous lady British owner, but now run by Indian guy, it’s got many problems, but that’s just from locals speaking, make up your own mind at the standards of this venue by attached pictures
- George (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rajiv (10/5): Superb - Fantastic staff, really looked after us throughout our stay. Lovely location and exceptional food.
- Elizabeth (10/5): The staff were spectacular. They took amazing care of us! Beautiful sunrise, views, access to the beach, and outdoor ea -
- Chantal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kiran (10/5): Paradise! - Beautiful beachfront location. Beautiful architecture. Very private.
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional - Impeccable service, amazing food. Very peaceful experience. Nothing
- Camilla (10/5): This wonderful oasis of a hotel just top the list of the most memorable places we've ever stayed - This wonderful oasis of a hotel might just top the list of the most memorable places we've ever stayed, not to mention eat. Every room and the entire garden looked fantastic with the most beautiful pool and direct access to the sea. Every day we enjoyed the fantastic food. The food is some of the best we have ever had. The quality and taste are amazing!! The staff did so much making our stay as best as possible. They were always sweet and ready to help and offer good advice, especially thanks to Damith.
Thank you for an amazing stay! Without a doubt, we can highly recommend Satin Doll. All good.
- Nurten (10/5): Dream stay - This boutique hotel is gorgeous!! The design, interior and surroundings are absolutely breathtaking. It is a perfect place to rest and feed your soul. The staff and service is impeccable and the food is delicious. It was by far the best place we have stayed at during our 3 month trip to Sri Lanka. I have shared it with all my friends and I cannot recommend this place enough! Nothing. This place is well managed, clean and absolutely gorgeous.
- Nicola (10/5): A gem of rare beauty right on the beach of Talpe. - This boutique Hotel will grant you peace and pleasant moments during your stay, is furnished with style and elegance and has a wide garden, a small but very elegant and useful pool for when the tide is high and there a lot of big waves on the beach. The chef is very capable and skilled, will please your food needs at every meal, breakfast included! The few rooms are spacious, luxurious and extremely comfortable. Staff will tidy it up every time you leave the room. Talpe is very close to the charming Galle and Unawatuna but also Koggala, Mirissa, and Waligama are easy to reach with the local and very cheap bus service. Everything was just perfect…
- Amanda (10/5): 10/10 An exceptional holiday experience - Everything! Satin Doll is the perfect destination for those who want a high quality experience in peaceful and beautiful soundings. There is nothing to fault.
- Anatole (9/5): Superb -
- Lawrence (9/5): Super friendly, delicious food , and very relaxed - Super friendly staff, amazing food and lovely rooms Beachfront location which was fantastic, but needed to walk 200m along a lovely beach to swim as coral on the beach infront of hotel.
- Žaneta (10/5): Beautiful little boutique hotel with the best food and drinks - Perfect little boutique hotel, would go again anytime. The food is great (one of the highlights of our stay). In Sri Lanka they usualy don´t know how to make a good coctail, only in Satin Doll the DO! Try their Pina Colada:)
There is beautiful garden with small but nice swimming pool and plenty of trees to provide shade on a hot day. Only 20 minutes from Galle with lovely shops and cafés. We loved it all!
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous!!!
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional place to stay with the best design and details for someone who loves beauty and style Nothing to change
- Syed (10/5): Extraordinary - Everything : upkeep, view,, people, comfort Nothing
- Liudmila (10/5): Real Paradise - All is perfect in this hotel:
1. Villas are comfortable, spacious, beautiful and clean
2. Territory is a green garden with an amazing lawn
3. Delicious Breakfasts on the ocean beach with the view to the waves and local stick fishermen
4. Hotel staff takes care of you every moment, solving all your problems with great creativity
5. Dinners are also delicious (both Local food and European dishes)
- Louise (9/5): Would highly recommend this place, great location - Breakfasts were wonderful. Staff very attentive. A bit more atmosphere and mixing with other guests.
- Madeline (9/5): Superb -
- Benjamin (10/5): - The property is located in a well kept garden next to a small but beautiful beach. Rooms are well kept and relaxing. The staff are fantastic and always willing to accommodate requests.
Food was excellent, particularly the Sri Lankan breakfast. The menu has increased and has a great selection of Western and Asian dishes but is quite expensive.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wunderschöne Unterkunft mit tollem Staff und super Essen!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is situated on the sea front with a private beach, each morning we sat at the table overlooking the sea and had the most delicious breakfast, the egg hoppers were a delight and a great start to the day.
- MATE DOBOS DR (10/5): Amazing stay, a different holiday feeling - It is not a hotel, you are not staying in a typical hotel. You rather accepted the invitation of a rich friend / relative and you are spending a week at his / her mansion, just right on the shore of the Indian Ocean. Your a guest in a huge house. You will be served at all times, but staff is not annoyingly around. Only 10 guests, maximum, looked after by a staff with the same number. This is called LUXURY! And you are just a couple of kms from the historical City of Galle.
