- Elspeth (8/5): Enjoyable - Its character - an old cottage with nooks and crannies. Very comfortable bed in main bedroom. Its location - right opposite the bus stop, and quiet, though in the centre of Ventnor. Ideal for walking. Pleasant communications with the host. The front outside sitting area was very public; the back outside sitting area was rather ramshackle. The bathroom and kitchen - pleasant and functional enough - felt rather ‘tired’ (cracked paintwork, broken tiles, etc) but this is a fairly minor detail.
- Gina (10/5): - Gorgeous cosy cottage. Lots of space and area outside too. Well equipped kitchen. Very comfortable. We liked it all.
- helen (7/5): - Lovely quaint cottage. Nice location A few issues with water leaking into the kitchen.
Emailed owners and they were looking into it asap.
Couldn't have asked for a better response
- Jane (10/5): Perfect spot to stay on Isle of Wight - Very cozy
- Karen (8/5): Cosy cottage right in town - Comfortable beds, plenty of room, good sized kitchen/diner
- Alyce (10/5): A perfect base for our quick visit to relatives in Ventnor, clean comfortable and ideal location - Lovely cosy cottage with all facilities needed and within easy reach of town centre shops, cafes and pubs Nothing
- Max (9/5): Very nice old cottage in great location in Ventnor - Great location, very well equipped kitchen, very cosy lounge. Nothing
- Maya (10/5): Beautiful, Relaxing and cosy stay at Lobster Cottage - Stunning location, right in the heart of Ventnor, short walk to many shops and the sea front. Beautiful old building, cosy cottage feel and comfortable private outside space with a lovely view, perfect for a morning coffee!
You can tell real care has gone into this place. It looked like it had recently had a deep clean everything felt fresh and welcoming.
The host was genuinely lovely and so hospitable, making the whole experience feel personal and easy. Check-in was a breeze with the lockbox code, and having parking right outside the cottage was a massive bonus.
I would 100% stay again!
Thankyou!! Nothing to fault at all. The cottage exceeded my expectations
- Nicola (5/5): OK for a 2 night stay - The heating system was great - which was handy because it was really chilly when we stayed there. We were so looking forward to our stay at this apparently pretty little cottage. But. Many reviewers have pointed out that the place needs a deep clean - it does, it really does. Cobwebs and grime on the extractor fan and elsewhere on the kitchen ceiling were really off-putting. The photos show a cobweb laden feather duster propped against the window that was waiting to greet us. Yuck! There were cracked tiles around the house - in the kitchen and bathroom. The furniture has seen better days and the sofas in the television room were saggy and a bit grubby. The condition of the property nameplate really says it all - see the picture below. It's a shame - the place could be cute and quirky. As it is, it is just tired and a bit sad.

- dean (3/5): Only had short stay so staid in the property , it’s a shame because I would say it just needs updating and stairs formed - Location was good , close to shops and not to far from beach Cleanliness, needs a deep clean and complete update fit out , stairs are dangerously and not fit for children , out side area up stairs needs completely cutting back , spiders everywhere .
- richard (10/5): Perfect fun family break with the dog. - Such a cute cottage perfectly situated, with all the comforts & conveniences you could wish for.. NOTHING.
- Andrew (10/5): Great location, lovely and clean and comfortable - Cost and clean Nothing
- Jude (9/5): Superb -
- Cavanagh (10/5): Exceptional - Cosy
- Alice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Varsha (8/5): Very good -
- Edward (9/5): A Cottage full of character. - Central position in Ventnor; near to shops and seafront. The cottage has rooms at different levels with steps up and down, at some point during the week we all tripped. Also the spiral staircase is polished wood and was tricky to negotiate.
We appreciated being able to take our dog but would have liked an enclosed area to let her out into.
- Steven (7/5): Good -
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Isabelle (9/5): Superb -
- Melissa (10/5): Perfect cottage - The cottage is beautiful, and everything that you need is included, perfect location. The bedrooms are large and spacious. The cottage is very clean and parking is perfect. We can't wait to visit again ! Nothing that we didn't like
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location, well equipped kitchen with plenty of space. Really nice feel to the place, felt comfortable as soon as we stepped in the door.
- James (10/5): Fantastic - lovely cottage, superb location - Amazing location (few minutes into Ventnor and maybe 10 max to the seafront and easy to get east or west on the island) and a lovely place to stay. Minor but you had to go through the second bedroom to get to the third bedroom but not a problem for us for a few days.
- Mfc_22 (9/5): Cozy, welcoming, conveniently located cottage with great character and facilities! - Centrally located with a short walk to the beach, restaurants, supermarkets and antiques shops.
For those coming with public transportation, it's closed to the bus stop!
Parking space was convenient in front of the cottage, to accomodate two cars.
The cottage is exquisitely decorated, and the kitchen is well equipped and spacious, good for chats and enjoying your meals! What we adored though was the sunny room and the outdoor space, where we enjoyed long chats, laughs and good wine!
Neighbour is welcoming and even if the road is close to the cottage, during the night there was absolute silence even with the open windows.
We haven't had the time to enjoy the up-backyard space, where there is also a convenient barbecue equipment and an amazing view to the sea!
For winter season there is a comfortable sofa area with a fireplace!
Excellent wifi - very well clean - very spacious for 5 adults
Overall it was simply perfect, all of us loved it!
[9 smiles, only for the issue with the shower] We had some issues with the hot water from the shower, but after few attempts, we discovered that by open the hot tap in the lavatory, the pressure created, was also feeding properly the shower water pressure, so all of us had a hot shower!!
Maybe it would require the plumber to check?
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location, comfortable beds, and a well equipped kitchen. The property has a character, a lovely garden, and all things that are required for a relaxing seaside break.
- Andrzej (10/5): Will be returning to Lobster Cottage next time we visit IOW. - Located in the heart of the village short walking distance to the beach with cristal-clear water.
A local restaurant on the way to the cost treated us to a delicious meal.
Tesco Express is round the corner, too.
Very cosy cottage with prestigeous look, unique layout and private parking.
Communication with the locely owner was flawless and we really enjoyed being there, even if if that was only for one night! We loved everything.
- Jill (8/5): A quiet but central, quirky historic cottage - Lobster cottage is quirky and very old- which means steep steps and higgeldy-piggeldy rooms. The first lounge is very dark, but we mainly used the sun lounge which was bright and welcoming. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom was fine. The beds were comfortable, and tho very central, it was quiet. Parking was great, it’s good to literally park outside the door. If the other rooms were refreshed in line with the sun lounge, it would feel brighter and more up to date- but then it is very old, and it would probably cost more!
We had the misfortune that on our last night, sometime during the night, one of the trip switches tripped, with most of the lights and a lot of the sockets not working, and the trip wouldn’t reset. We coped fine, as we found a socket to use the hairdryer, and living in old houses ourselves, we know that the electrical circuits can sometimes cause problems. The owner got back to me and was lovely, tho as we were leaving, any fixes happened after we left.
- Hellen (5/5): Disappointing overall. - The kitchen and the dining room were nice. It was warm enough. The Bathroom had black mould around the bath. The stairs were difficult to navigate (there should have been a warning)
it took ages to open the key safe as we were given four different numbers. There was a lot of stuff stored in corners all over the cottage which made the place not very welcoming.
- Peta (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (9/5): Lovely location in a house full of character - Location was amazing. Plenty of room for 4 of us. Great to have parking. Nothing!!
- Jayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sam (8/5): Great quiet location, very quaint cottage a good base for the one night we required. - A short walk to amenities such as a Tesco express and restaurants.
Lovely quiet location.
- Jo (8/5): Very good -
- Jon (7/5): Good -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Perfect location
- Caroline (10/5): Historic charming cottage in the heart of Ventnor. We wish we could have stayed longer - Beautiful characterful place to stay right in the heart of Ventnor though it feels like a lovely quiet oasis. Everything was spotless on arrival and we had everything we needed. We had a warm welcome from the lady getting it ready for us too and ready contact with the owner to welcome us
- Willey (6/5): Pleasant - location excellent . Comfortable beds good out door .seating Rather grubby .Lots of cobwebs especially in kitchen. No outlook in kitchen
- Matt (9/5): Superb -
- Remco (9/5): Amazing surprising romantic old cottage, I could live there! - What an amazing house! Old, very old, and very interesting on the inside. Way bigger then to be expected from the outside. Amazing location. If this was my house I’d renovate the bathroom and kitchen, I’d do some thorough cleaning, plastering and painting and I’d fix all the doors (none is fitting). But that would be for permanent living because that is how unique this cottage is. For a short stay it is just amazing with all of it’s quirks and features.
- Andrew (9/5): amazing location. very comfortable property. Excellent customer care from the owner - comfortable
excellent location one bathroom for potentially 8 people
- Stuart (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was spot on.
- Yvonne (7/5): bad rain storm resulted in flooding in the lounge as water poured in through front door making everything damp and smell - stairs not good condition and not suitable for children as extremely steep also not very clean behind sofas and in sofas they also need updating as seats droop
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (10/5): Ideal for families and location - Location perfect very close to all Ventnor has to offer ideal for families plenty of room for everyone with good facilities like a washing machine which is handy if you’ve got kids. One of the bed sofas wasn’t very comfortable but not enough to worry about it
