Guest Reviews
- CHING YI (10/5): - Beautiful and cozy lodge.
- Robert P (10/5): Great stop over by Loch Ness - Wonderful lodge out by Loch Ness. Comfortable rooms, easy check in, and lovely and quiet
- Rachel (10/5): - A wonderful cosy haven . Keys and instructions waiting for us at the parking space . A perfect one night stay , with all the facilities needed .
- Cindy (10/5): - We atayed in the Queen room. It was very comfortable and Rachel was a gracious host.
- Martina (10/5): Gorgeous all around - Beautiful location with a stunning view. Wish we would have stayed longer. Driveway has quite a few potholes so you need to be careful driving up.
- James (10/5): Lovely guest house. - Lovely B&B type stay. The house and room was beautiful. They left a nice selection of continental style breakfast items along with coffee and tea for the morning. If you forced me to say something negative, I would say that the water pressure was low and the driveway is steep and bumpy. So, just go slow and it won't be a problem.
- Ruen (8/5): - this is a beautiful property within reasonable distance from Loch Ness and Inverness the start of the NC500
the continental breakfast provided exceeded expectations as it also included smoked salmon, ham and fresh orange juice. I would have perhaps included some crackers for the salmon/ham (or bread) instead of just croissants.
This hotel ticked all boxes however the drive up to the hotel was horrendous on a motorbike, both getting up and down. I would seriously consider getting it tarmac'd if only a line down the center as right now I would have to discourage bikers from staying there. which is a shame as it's a beautiful property
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hut is tiny. If you have large suitcases it is challenging to move around. The place was very clean and had a good bed.
- Sharon (10/5): - We loved our stay at the lodge. We had the Bonnie Prince room which had some use of the outdoor spa! This was amazing to sit with a drink and relax whilst looking over the Loch Ness and highlands I. The distance. Room was very large and spacious with a very comfortable bed!! Loved our stay! Highly recommend.
- Joseph (10/5): - Friendly hostess, comfy bed, well-stocked room, the knky downer was we didnt realize the hot tub was only for some guests, unfortunately. Otherwise, everything was fantastic
- Anne (10/5): Lovely wee hut. - It’s small put perfectly formed. Great weather helped as we could sit outside our hut for our dinner and breakfast. Amazing bed and pillows. Excellent shower.
- Sara (10/5): - Beautiful Lodge, felt right at home. So many elegant touches.
- James (10/5): hideway near Ness ... - really nice lodge - we stayed in the main house and found it very comfortable.
- Daisy (8/5): - Our stay at the lodge was very comfortable and private. The room was spacious, with a well appointed bathroom and comfortable bed. The grounds of the hotel were very well kept and beautiful. The only part of our stay we didn’t love was that there was no one to greet you on arrival, so we felt a little confused about entering the property. You’re also pretty far from town so be sure to prepare accordingly!
- David (10/5): - Fantastic setting near to Loch Ness. The hut itself was cosy, comfortable and had a good shower, TV, and a WiFi signal strong enough for working.
The host recommended a local pub for dinner, which was handy - again a 10-minute drive away.
There was a 10-minute walk in the welcome pack that took in stunning views. Would recommend and would return.
- Amanda (10/5): - The Highland Bear Lodge is a peaceful retreat in the Inverness Highlands. It is a must stay! We had a wonderful time! The Lodge is picturesque and idyllic. We had a wonderful experience and plan to return some day. I highly advised you to build in a day of rest at this wonderful location. There is a lot to see in the highlands as well, but the lodge is worth the time! 100% would recommend this amazing venue. Thank you for such wonderful service, clean comfortable room, and the coziest front patio, with the best views of Scotland! Thank you again!
- Orlando (10/5): - This lodge is incredible. It gave the full feel of an old world hunting lodge with lush surroundings. Off the beaten path with tons of local hiking. The building structure is amazing and the rooms felt like you were back in time. A must stay.
- Heather (10/5): - A beautiful quaint atmosphere. Totally felt like we were in Scotland!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fabulous stay and beautiful location - I cannot recommend the Highland Bear Lodge highly enough. What a stunning location and place to stay. Everything was absolutely lovely and very unique. We stayed in the Prince Charlie room and it was absolutely gorgeous. I have never stayed anywhere with an in room breakfast provision, but it worked so well and we really enjoyed it. Thank you so much.
- Andrea (10/5): - Everything was beautiful and extremely clean
- Shawn (10/5): - Absolute BEST accommodations I’ve experienced in 40 years! Gorgeous property, spacious and well appointed room. The attention to detail in the decor and accouterments was thoughtful and creative. Mark the host was genuine and accommodating. Started off my first trip to Scotland here and would happily stay again! Fabulous stay!
- Abigail (10/5): Amazing stay, amazing host. So cozy! - We loved our stay, just wish we could have stayed longer. We got in later than check in and Mark the owner still came to greet us and help us with our bags. He was so kind and made sure we had everything we needed. We stayed in the black bear hut and it was everything we needed! Definitely small, but we were expecting it to be, and if anything it added to the coziness! The owners thought of everything from snacks, tea, coffee, fresh towels, you name it. The space was so clean, I have nothing bad to say about our stay.
- Sarah (10/5): Luxurious and private lodge in a beautiful setting - Beautiful luxurious mansion with thoughtful styling throughout! The lodge was on the top of the hill creating privacy and with gorgeous views of the loch and hills. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Would highly recommend this stay when visiting loch ness!
- Peter (8/5): - A unique little hut thats very effective as a base of operations. Its too small to be permanent setting. Very clean with snacks laid on in the kitchen bin. Definitely for car users as driveway is steep and twisty. Very little contact with owners as we only required an additional towel which was bought to us in a few minutes. Views are of the local woodland and Loch Ness is a few minutes drive away. Overall we enjoyed our two nights there. Recommended stay.
- stephen (10/5): - Fun and clean pod. The surrounding area is beautiful.
- Deanne (10/5): - We only stayed here one night but wished we'd stayed more. Spacious room and bathroom. Really peaceful. Very private. Easy to find. Super comfortable bed.
- Stacey (10/5): - Lovely little cabin that we enjoyed for 2 nights while we explored the area. It was quiet and comfortable.
- Hadley (10/5): - What a magnificent view! Beautiful place to stay and visit.
- Alison (10/5): - Great little stay great selection of cereal and teas and coffee would recommend
- Michael (8/5): - Liked that it was fairly secluded and quiet in the bear hut. Though if the guests in the next hut were outside you would have heard everything. The spider in the bed was definitely not ideal. Daughter stayed in the room inside the house and could hear the folks above her.
- Fran (10/5): - Unusual and unique concept. Lovely hut with everything you need. Comfy bed!!
- John (10/5): - We loved our stay in the Black Bear cottage this week! The location was perfect for exploring the highlands and then coming back to the beauty and tranquility of the lodge area and huts. The owners are so kind and helpful…we got lots of great tips from them on places to stop and see during our exploring. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed to feel comfortable. We brought a plug converter since we were visiting from the US but the cottage had a wall outlet above the bed headboard with a shelf so that we could connect usb and other cords to charge our phones etc. so we only used it for extras. Definitely recommend staying here and we can’t wait to visit again!
- Patricia (10/5): - Beautiful room, huge bathroom, peaceful and quiet, yet a short drive to Loch Ness and Inverness! Took a tour with Mark Dann the owner! Very knowledgeable of the history of the area, hidden unknown spots.. excellent
- Becky (10/5): - This place is adorable, a little hut in the woods, its like a gypsy trailer on wheels... the shower works great and it was stocked with yummy treats and even milk in the fridge! My only suggestion would be to put screens on the window due to the midges....Loved it!
- Netasia (6/5): - It was a fine stay. Nothing spectacular. The host should definitely add to their Expedia listing that you will be required to leave 20 pounds in cash PER NIGHT if you would like to use the hot tub in the Bonnie Prince Charlie sweet what you pay extra money for already in the listing price. I double checked when I got there to be sure that I didn't miss it. I did not travel with cash so this was kind of annoying. The host could have definitely made note of this in emails as well. We booked this room well in advance specifically for the hot tub. Other than that breakfast was nice. An idea might be to add a microwave to the room. Also this is quite far from Inverness if you are hoping to be close by.
- Deborah (10/5): - Nice quiet out of the way place with beautiful grounds. The room was spacious, bed and pillows were comfortable. The bathroom was XL, the only ding would be the shower pressure was very low. It took awhile to get the conditioner out of my hair. Never saw any staff. Overall still would recommend.
- Julie (10/5): - We had the most wonderful stay at the Highland Bear Lodge. The property is absolutely stunning, and our room (The Bonnie Prince Charlie Suite) was amazing. We felt like we had gone back in history and were surrounded by luxury. The room and bathroom were beautifully appointed.
The continental breakfast was fabulous and very thoughtful. We couldn’t have asked for anymore from our hosts. Thank you.
- Laura (10/5): - Very charming and unusual stay. Gorgeous setting. Beautiful house and very comfortable. Highly recommend!
- Amarnath (8/5): - The place was nice, cozy and clean. Excellent ambience for a short getaway. The food provided was something which I found was not as expected. Breakfast was frozen items and most of them were things that we dont eat. Other than that it was an excellent place.
- Peter (10/5): - We stayed in the Bonnie Prince Charlie room, this was both charming, comfortable and spacious. We didn’t see the hosts but were given information to contact them if a need . Continental breakfast was left in the room. The driveway was very steep, would recommend arriving in daylight. Would highly recommend this lodge.
- Chantel (10/5): Stunning view. Beautiful rooms. Highly recommend! - Beautiful stay! Higly recommend. We stayed in The Bonnie Prince Charlie room and loved it! Big beautiful room, comfortable bed, stunning view, gorgeous bathroom. Breakfast was in room and the host provided everything we might need. We truly felt like the King and Queen of the castle. I wish we had stayed there longer.
The house is at the top of a steep hill, but there is a car park area before it gets too steep if your uncomfortable driving up and the walk is quick and easy the rest of the way.
- Christie (10/5): - This place was fantastic! Location perfect for exploring highlands. I highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.
- Phyllis (6/5): - This property is absolutely gorgeous. Was not crazy about how impersonal the interaction was with owner/staff. Never saw anyone and keys were left in the door. The bed was worn out and both my husband and I had back pain. Zero water pressure in the showers. Originally wanted something close to Inverness which was suggested by Travelocity but this is nowhere near Inverness. Even our GPS got lost finding this. It’s not that I wouldn’t recommend this, it just wasn’t the right fit for our needs.
- Marti (10/5): - It is a lovely setting and a sweet little hut. A bit difficult for my tall husband with low doorways etc
- Karen (10/5): Perfect place for peace and quiet - I think it was perfect for us. We were on a sabbatical and it was so quiet. The view from the outside balcony was enjoyable in the evening. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a bathtub which was the perfect ending to a fun packed day of hiking. Thank you so much for your hospitality. I would definitely recommend this place.

The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a bathtub which was the perfect ending to a fun packed day of hiking. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
- Colleen (8/5): - We had a very nice stay. The lodge is very nice and clean. The only issue we had was with the water pressure in the shower. There basically was none and it made it very difficult to wash and rinse. The temperature was also hard to control with the water either being very cold, or very very hot. Otherwise, it was a nice place.
- Rebecca (10/5): - We absolutely loved our time here. Mark, the owner, was helpful and kind. He offers tours of the area, which I highly recommend. The house is lovely, quiet and comfortable. The surrounding area is absolutely gorgeous.
- Katherine (10/5): - What an amazing place!! We stayed in a hut and it was very clean and cozy. We were even given some items for breakfast and felt very well taken care of. Highly recommend!!!
- Gary (10/5): - The huts were cosy, great place to stay to see the surrounding area, would go back for a longer break next time
- Teri-Lynn (8/5): - The property is beautiful and our host was lovely. We had booked the Bonny Prince Charlie Suit for the use of the hot tub, and were a little turned off to find out (upon arrival) that there was an extra charge to use the hot tub, even though we paid more for the room to be able to use it. It kind of put a bad taste in our mouth for the rest of the stay. The in-room provided breakfast was quite lovely, with a lot of options.
- Jahan (10/5): - One of a kind stay. The living room area and views from the patio are unreal. Would stay here again!
- Rebecca (10/5): - Loved the area. Nice and relaxing. Everything that you need the huts has it.
- Tommy (8/5): - Teally nice little huts
- Sandra (10/5): - Amazing stay! Check in instructions were very clear and no issues finding the property.
Room was stunning, bathroom bigger than my flat! Hospitality tray and in room breakfast was very generous. Hot tub was amazing and the robes were very much appreciated.
- Colin (10/5): - Incredible property. Beautiful views. Peaceful and quiet. It’s a must stay if you’re in the area. The Bonnie Prince Charlie suite was charming and unique.
- Thomas (10/5): Great stay - Great stay at the lodge/hut. Great location, very clean and cosy.
- Madeline (10/5): - Comfy, cute, and clean! We enjoyed our one night stay in one of the huts.
- Jonathan (10/5): Simply stunning - What an amazing place. Stayed in the Bonnie Prince Charlie room with the hot tub. Fantastic room and the hot tub was great. Nice continental breakfast in the morning. Bed was great. You will need a car here and you will need to travel for evening food. But don’t let that put you off. Will absolutely be returning.
- Michael (10/5): - Fantastic stay in the Bonnie Prince Charlie room! So spacious and beautifully furnished. We also really enjoyed using the hot tub just right outside the door. Mark was super friendly and made us feel at home. We will definitely come back soon to this amazing property.
- Stuart (10/5): - Clean, affordable, well-located and charming. Thank you.
- Emma (10/5): Wowzer - All I can say is Wow, Wow, Wow. We stayed in the Bonnie Prince Charlie suite and the room was absolutely stunning. You couldn’t have asked for more from a Continental breakfast or the room facilities. Sole use of the hot tub definitely added to the experience. I cannot rate this place enough
- Karan (8/5): Great stay for something a little different - A lovely place to stay. Easy checking in and out. A very clean, well appointed shepherds hut.
If booking please be aware that breakfast is cornflakes/instant porridge and a breakfast bar plus tea or coffee. This was enough for us but wanted to point it out as it might be helpful for others booking.
- Megan (10/5): Cosy hut in peaceful location - Great little hut. Very comfortable and warm and really peaceful. Bed was seriously comfy. Had enough sunny spells for some breakfast outside too which was lovely. Really close to Drumnadrochit for food and shops. Also really close to Glen Affric which meant I could beat the car park crowds when visiting without having to get up seriously early.
- shirley (6/5): - Cute huts. Would be best for one person. Bath door would not shut and quite far from any restaurant.
- Lloyd (10/5): 10/10 - We stayed in one of the cabins on site and had a brilliant time, the visitor information was really helpful and included a short walk to a viewpoint of a nearby walk. Arguably our favourite night of a 7 day road trip through the UK
- David (10/5): - Everything was perfect! Our room, the large living room with fire place, the gardens outside and how well kept everything was. Rach was so responsive when I messaged her and was a true gem!
- Stephanie (10/5): - Beautiful place and the shepherd's hut was really cozy and comfortable. It was very peaceful and relaxing. Check in and out was easy, staff very friendly. Had everything we needed.
- Christopher (10/5): - My partner and me had an amazing time . We were really impressed when we arrived parking was well signed keys were waiting for us and the cabin was super clean well maintained . We would definitely come back and highly recommend it for a night or 2 away from home .
- Meggan (10/5): - Absolutely beautiful property and lovely little huts!
- G (10/5): Cute Bear - Great hut. Everything you need is there. We had no issues at all, just wish we could have stayed longer.
- Lindsay (10/5): Excellent Hut - We stayed in a hut. We had a friendly welcome. The hut was clean and well presented. We would be happy to stay here again.
- Gary (10/5): This place is a must for a break - Idyllic spot to rewind & relax. Can’t rate highly enough. Quiet and comfortable.
Shepards hut we stayed in was first class
- Michele (10/5): - I had a very comfortable stay at the Lodge. The room is clean and the beds are comfortable. Love the breakfast provided by the Lodge too. Highly Recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Superb place to stay. - The hotel is excellent. Very tastfully furnished, very clean and comfortable. The lack of hot food might not suit everyone but there was a generous amount provided which could be eaten for dinner and/or breakfast.
- Pauline (10/5): A gorgeous place to unwind - This place is absolutely fabulous. Our room was massive, beautifully equipped and so comfortable. The continental breakfast was plentiful and a nice change from the norm.I cannot recommend the Highland Bear enough and the area where it is is absolutely stunning. Just Perfect.
- Kenneth (10/5): - Very special place. Quiet and very impressive. Although we didn’t meet him Mark was very kind and professional in that he telephoned us after our departure to tell us we had left medicine in our room and that he would post them to our home. Breakfast was provided in our room - not the full Scottish but more than enough for us. Overall 5/5
- Colin (10/5): September 2021 Short Break - A fantastic stay in a wonderful property in a spectacular setting. Highland bear lodge is a great example of a traditional country house which is extremely well cared for. The light touch service felt in keeping with the property and we felt very well looked after. The breakfast and general room amenities were spot on.
- Andrew (10/5): Top ratings from us! - We stayed it the Mary Queen of Scots room for our first night as Mr and Mrs.
Very spacious, clean and tidy. A well stocked fridge for breakfast, and good quality soaps and furnishings. It was lovely to see the red squirrel feeding at the bird table outside our bedroom window. Great place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Place was very welcoming and check in was easy. Hut had all the things you could need for a short stay. Lovely welcome pack. Decor was aesthetically pleasing and made it feel very cosy. Shower was good too (good height for a 5 foot 7 person), however if you're 6 foot 6 like my partner you will have to crouch. The highest point of the hut is 6 foot 7.
However, biggest let down was the bed. This ruined our trip as we booked this place to get a good night's sleep before our 10 hr drive back to London (we had been camping for the past 8 nights). The bedding had numerous strands of hair. On first inspection we thought oh well, but as we kept looking/rearranging the duvet we found the sheets covered in hair too. Luckily we had our sleeping bag. It was very strange as the rest of the hut was clean.
Also the Driveway is on an incline up to the parking space and could do with improvements as there were numerous potholes and was difficult unless your driving a 4x4.
- Mary (10/5): A fantastic end to our honeymoon - Wow, what a place. We stayed in the Bonnie Prince Charlie room and paid for the use of the hot tub. Room was huge, bathroom was clean and massive, bed was comfortable, had a great sleep *v soft pillows though*. Breakfast was more than enough, provided in room and available to take away. Hosts were friendly, views were great, near drumnadrochit to get places for dinner. Would easily stay again. The road in is quite bumpy, a challenge for low or small cars.
- Alexander (10/5): Magical Stay - Highland Bear Lodge is a Magical Place to stay. Room was immaculately clean, loads of space, and great views of the amazing countryside surrounding it. Breakfast set up in the room, was just what we needed to start a busy day of activities. Perfect location, lots of exploring to do n the area, and such a cosy magical place to return to after busy day. Mark was super helpful with tips and advise of where to go, what to do, and how to get there etc.. Recommended restaurant in Inverness, was a good shout especially with the discount card presented in our room. Superb place to stay, only downside, would inevitably be you'l want to stay longer... We will definitely return!!
- Andrew (10/5): - Brilliant bear huts and very comfortable
You have everything you need
- VI (10/5): Perfection - Perfection from the hosts & a fabulous hotel. Loved the Mary Queen of Scots room. Very tastefully decorated.
Definitely a room with a view. Comfortable bed. Large storage if needed. Struggled a little with the shower - very hot water.Nice touch having a fridge. Breakfast was plenty (In room). Would have used the lounge area which was gorgeous but ended up going out for a meal that evening. Some very nice nature around the hotel.
Would highly recommend this hotel.
- Tom (10/5): Red squirrel spotting - Great place to stay. Fantastic location and really interesting hotel, with cool personal touches and red squirrels playing on the grass outside. Would definitely stay here again.
- Liam (10/5): Fabulous - Absolutely fantastic can't praise it enough would 100% return , my only issue is i would have liked to have known about the £20 per charge for use of the hot tub prior to arrival other than that beautiful location excellent condition and Markbwas Absolutely brilliant with us
- Jodie (10/5): - Great wee hut, very clean with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
- Faith (10/5): - Gorgeous property in an idyllic setting. The hosts were lovely folks who really made us feel welcome. The Highland Fling tour was wonderful. We would go back in a heartbeat! Beautiful place and beautiful people!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our host, Rachel was super lovely and friendly. The property was absolutely beautiful and serene. If anyone ever tells me they are planning a stay near Inverness,Scotland and wanting to enjoy the countryside, I wouldn't hesitate recommending Highland Bear Lodge. I wish we could have stayed a week there. The nearby Village was so quaint.
- Brian (10/5): Lovely place, lovely people, amazing gem - Lovely location. Rach (the owner) was very friendly and helpful when we checked in. The grounds and surrounding area are very scenic. The in room breakfast was different but not a problem due to the large selection of food.
- jason (10/5): Beautiful - Rach was SO nice and inviting when we arrived. The property is beautiful and as an amazing view. The room was clean and comfortable. This is a great place to get away and relax.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful room, very scenic location. Peaceful ambiance in the middle of nature.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property itself was beautiful with stunning views in every room. Our bedroom and bathroom had big windows which brought in a lot of natural light which I really loved. Rach the owner was a very lovely person. She has a lot of knowledge regarding the history of highland bear lodge and surrounding areas. She gave us a lot of recommendations on things to do in the area and even marked it down on a map for us. We would definitely come back again. Our experience here was excellent.
- Susan R (10/5): - Though a bit of a challenge to find this delightful B and B, it was well worth the visit. The proprietors have taken every opportunity to make guests feel at home. The room was spacious and clean and the bed comfortable. The view surrounding this site is nothing short of spectacular!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great position, lovely house, it’s classic Scottish atmosphere is enchanting
- Valerie (10/5): - Lovely stay. Lovely accommodation. Very warm welcome from host
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect location, great hosts, brilliant breakfast and the lodge was stunning
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Most beautiful accomodation we stayed in, in all of Scotland. The hosts were very welcoming, and the location was superb. Will definitely be returning in the future.
- Kathy (10/5): - Mark and Rach are wonderful hosts. Their home was warm and welcoming. They know a lot about the area and are great resources for places to go. We highly recommend Botha tours given by Mark - he took us to places we would have never seen on our own.
