Guest Reviews
- james (10/5): - Fine
- Patrick (6/5): - Hostel was not staffed 24/7. Arrived at 18.30 to locked door with instructions pinned to door on how to gain access; same for second night. No breakfast was available on either day.
- Barry (10/5): Great budget stay - Excellent budget stay. I was the only person in an 8-bed dorm, and was one of only two people using the communal facilities on the night of my visit. Excellent hostel facilities and good systems in place.
- Karen (10/5): My one night stay - I was only there a night but used kitchen facilities shower etc all seemed clean and working. I really feel the cold so delighted to find heater in my room if I needed it. Denise was welcoming when I arrived and checked in the next morning with everyone in dining room to check things ok .
- Robert (10/5): A clean, comfortable hostel in a former chapel. - Spacious lounge and kitchen area in the former chapel.
Nice rooms and sturdy bunk beds that don't rattle when you get in and out.
- hanna (10/5): - Lovely place, comfortable, well equipped kitchen.
- Julie (8/5): - Efficient check in process. We had a lovely big room. Good showers. Town centre location. Supermarket opposite the hostel and lots of places to get food. Good bike storage facilities. We really enjoyed our stay here. Thank you
- Jonny (10/5): - Lovely Hostel in the center of the Town. Very clean and tidy, with a wonderful communal area to sit, relax and prepare food.
- Shindo (6/5): 教会ホテル - 写真で見ると教会っぽいと思ってましたが、実際に教会でした。ダイニングも教会の椅子などを利用していてとても雰囲気がありました。
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and nice area to visit. Very peaceful. Plenty of walks to do.
- glenn (10/5): Kirkby stephen hostel - Last minute change of plan from camping due to the weather, myself and the family were highly supprised. It was a lovely place to say and Debbie was great.
- Susie (10/5): Atmospheric, welcoming and clean hostel. - Great hostel- very friendly helpful staff. It suited us as a family very well, we stayed for 3 nights in August. The large communal room was great, with room to play board games (provided or our own). The hostel was very popular with walkers, it would also be great for youth/ kids' groups. We would choose this hostel again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location - Well equipped hostel. Good location on High Street close to pubs and restaurants.
- James (10/5): - This is a very large, functional ex-chapel, situated perfectly for fast food or groceries, and lends itself very well to being a hostel. The kitchen is well equipped. It is tired in decor, but it’s more than comfortable, and its price adequately reflects this. It even has its own drying room for the wet days. Very friendly and helpful duty staff member.
- Mrs J M (8/5): Kirby Stephen Hostel - Return to a hostel we went to after first being converted from a chapel, and was then part of the YHA. Showing its age a bit now, but still an enjoyable stay.
- R M J (8/5): Basic but value for money. - Basic room but given the price it is very good value. Very welcoming and the cooked breakfast was excellent.
- Peter (2/5): Couldn't check in til after dark. Awful service. - When I arrived at 8:15pm there was a note saying I should call a mobile number. I rang 5 times over a two hour period and left voicemails but I didn't get a text with the door code until after 10pm. I had to sit outside in the dark and entertain myself in this time. Phone signal isn't a problem in Kirkby Stephen, I had full 4G signal so this was totally inexcusable and it wasn't even like I arrived especially late. This was the worst service I've ever had at a hostel and I've stayed in lots.
If you get allowed inside it's quite nice. It's an old church which is interesting. Shame about the terrible service.
- Paul (10/5): Great location, great value! - A great place to stay if your on a budget. Denise the owner couldn't be more helpful, she even sorted us a safe place to park our motorbikes overnight. I will certainly stay again in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent hostel - Well worth staying - very friendly - good facilities.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hostel in lovely converted chapel in town centre - Really friendly owner. Great communal spaces - kitchen facilities were particularly good. Bunkrooms fine - basic but clean. Thoroughly recommended.
- Clare (10/5): Superb hostel - This is a superb hostel, the staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. It's a great location with easy parking. We were cycling and there is a secure bike store and even a drying room for your soggy gear. The food was lovely, the hostel was really nice and comfortable. Would definitely recommend people to stay here and I will definitely return. Thanks you xx
