• Ida (9/5): Mir hat es gefallen! - Ich hatte ein schönes, neues, grosses Zimmer (im Haus nahe der Rezeption). Es war sauber, einzig das Fenster ist sehr hoch eingebaut, dass man nur die Palmwedel sehen kann. Ich blieb statt einer Nacht dann zwei Nächte, da es mir gefallen hat. Der Pool und der Garten laden zum relaxen ein. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und das Restaurant kann ich sehr empfehlen. Ich kann die negativen Bewertungen nicht ganz verstehen. Meine Erfahrung war gut, aber ich kann nur mein Zimmer bewerten.

Restaurangen skulle jag ge toppbetyg - om man bortser från att allt måste beställas minst en timme i förväg. Vid ombyggnation har man valt att smälla upp containerrum. Det må vara praktiskt och säkert billigt att bygga, men det är fult. Även restaurangen hade kunnat byggas för att harmoniera med de ursprungliga byggnaderna. Tyvärr har stället istället förlorat sin charm.

Die Tische kleben, die Tischdeckchen sind klebrig, mein Glas war schmutzig. Mein Kontainer Stelzenhaus hatte Schimmel im Bad, es roch nach Schimmel. Die Kornflakes waren alt, das Essen schmeckte fad.

• Alexander (9/5): Wonderful view of the lagoon, huge pool, very friendly staff - The check-in was quick and easy. Moreover, the whole staff - especially the manager - was very friendly and helpful. Our room was quite small, but okay for sleeping. We stayed in a hut with a communal "living room area" incl. sofas that made a pleasant stay. There are different kinds of rooms / accommodation available at this resort. A lot of them have a porch with a view to the lagoon. We absolutely loved the huge pool surrounded by palm trees and with good views of the lagoon. Watching the sunset from the pool is amazing! Additionally, there is a big modern restaurant with a wide range of food and drinks on offer. We really enjoyed the fresh juices and tasty dinner. - Some reviews refer to the long period to prepare the food (1.5 hours). As all food is freshly prepared, it takes some time. Our dinner was ready in a shorter period of time. An option might be to preorder your food. The only negative aspect was the lack of wifi. It is available in the reception and the restaurant. The manager promised that someone will install a router in our hut. But this did not happen.
• Dirk (9/5): - I needed to do an emergency booking after my initial "resort" did not honor a reservation. This spot gets mediocre reviews, but I found it great value for money. I "upgraded" to an a/c bungalow, which is a small container but well formed and outfitted. Excellent for a night or two. I "splurged" on the crab curry in the restaurant, and it was excellent. Great value for money all around. My 5am tuk-tuk to the train station was ordered and waiting. The "resort" is sprawling and the accommodation types can be confusing. You can easily walk to the beach, but the sunset over the lagoon and the bridge is special.

• Dennis (8/5): Wunderbar, immer wieder gerne - Die Lage ist wunderschön und ruhig gelegen. Die Außenanlagen herrlich und so schön grün. Uns hat es wirklich gut gefallen und wir würden jederzeit wieder kommen.
• Peter (7/5): Good value and would stay again but check on site where allocated first. - Nice coconut farm right on the lagoon with rooms and huts spaced in the tropical grounds. Perfect location, shops 10-15 minute walk, beach 20 minutes. Stayed in wooden hut, great bed, excellent mosquito net and has on site restaurant bar with wide menu. They were building 2 new huts next to me and building works with angle grinders and drill all day, but i was out all day, so only had the first thing and early evening noise. Food in restaurant nice but took an hour to arrive, stone cold, drinks warm.

• Markus (9/5): - Das parkähnliche Gelände mit Pool ist toll. Die Containerhäuser sind nicht gross, wir haben aber gut geschlafen. Man sollte gutes Mückenmitteund Rauchstäbchen gegen Mücken dabei haben wenn man draussen sitzen möchte. Das Restaurant ist ausgezeichnet.
• Négre (10/5): Surtout n’hésitez pas , vous aurez plus envie de partir 😉 - Accueille chaleureux, de très bon conseils, n’hésitez pas. Le Lieu est magnifique, les pieds dans le sable . Et Je vous conseille le safari sur un radeau, moins cher et très agréable, (eléphants crocodiles … ) demandez lui. On le recommande 100fois.

• Thomas (10/5): Two nights in Batti - We absolutely loved the atmosphere and the surroundings. We stayed in a well equipped tree bungalow just a few meters from the lagoon. Loved walking on wood. The food was really tasty and it was really nice being able to sit outside the bar as it was really ”cool off- season days”. The staff was really hospitable and welcoming. Good location within walking distance to ”everything”. We walked everywhere around Batti. -

We asked for the correct room but they made us wait two hours and we don’t believe the room would have become available There was a pool but very damaged - shame The bathroom was very old , mosquitoes everywhere, huge gaps under doors- not the room we booked - management at front desk were not helpful so we left without staying .

• Annina (5/5): Tolle Lage, eher für Gruppen - schöne lage direkt am fluss. erholsamer, gepflegter poolbereich. das personal ist herzlich und sehr zuvorkommend. feines essen. als individualreisende und oft einzige gäste im restaurant haben wir uns im auf events und veranstaltungen ausgerichteten hotel etwas fehl am platz gefühlt. alternativen für verpflegung sind in batti noch eher rar. die angebotenen mietfahräder sind in desolatem zustand, zweimal endeten ausflüge mit platten reifen.

• Stuart (8/5): Peaceful and relaxing place to spend a few days. - This was my second stay at the Riviera Resort. I like the location, which is quiet and peaceful. There is a large pool and a spacious, new dining area. The staff are outstanding and always willing to help. The road leading to the hotel has a lot of potholes, so be aware if you are coming in a tuk-tuk or small car that it will be a bumpy ride for a couple of minutes.

We were told in check in that orders are always about 40 minute wait and to order ahead if possible. Arrived at dinner with our toddler. We waited 1.5hts for food. We then asked if we could preorder breakfast for. Set time the next morning as we watched others do this. Our order was taken but the next day, again we waited almost an hour for breakfast (continental and pancakes) they forgot the pancakes. And we had to delay our driver. The restaurant is not cheap. The delays unacceptable (not the only table waiting for food each meal) and the rooms were full of mosquitoes.

• JOHN (8/5): - We had a good stay at Riviera, good location, away from the busy roads, very good for walking, particularly in the nearby beach. The room was fine, good outside veranda, bed and towels good. The restaurant was excellent, very good, probably the best restaurant in the area. Food is made to order, fresh and of a very high standard, wide and varied choice. Go for an early walk on the beach and watch the local fisherman, interesting.
• Joseph (1/5): Cheap and disappointing - Location and restaurant The room and bathroom - were small, dated and old, and smelly. The bathroom width was 2 1/2 ft with the wash basin in the middle that you had to walk around. There were no hooks to hang your clothes if you choose to shower. The towel, which used to be white was an off color and stiff. The room never really cooled because there are gaps in the room through which heat/air can come in. When I told the reception person on the way out, they said “It’s the room that’s usually given to drivers” - no wonder! As to why Booking.com or Riviera would give it to a foreigner to stay is shameful. Since there were no pictures of this specific room it was impossible to figure out it at the time of booking.

• Travel and animals (8/5): Fantastic food and splendid singing fish! - Riviera Resort has a gorgeous location by the lagoon and our rooms looked onto the water. We loved the stylish, open and airy restaurant (again, with lagoon views). It was fantastic to see so many locals coming to eat - a sign of good food - and we did indeed have delicious, fresh, Sri Lankan cuisine for dinner and breakfast. The staff are very helpful, particularly Jayanthy. We did the Singing Fish boat tour (via the Resort) in the evening. It was exciting and magical to be on the lagoon late at night, particularly because our guide told us that Batticaloa is one of only two places in the world where the fish can be heard. We heard the fish clearly from two different spots in the lagoon. The guide can amplify the sound with a headset if you wish, but there is something very special about listening directly through the wooden oar. Our guide also took us along the lagoon, seeing fishermen, jellyfish and, most amazingly, the Dutch Fort in moonlight. Our guide and driver were brilliant, friendly and enthusiastic - they’re Batticaloa locals so they have generations of knowledge, and they really wanted us to enjoy the tour. Thank you to them for being so kind, especially to our son.
• Carme (9/5): - Si vas a Baticaloa alójate aquí sin dudarlo. Maravillosa piscina y vistas al lago preciosas. Es un hotel venido a menos si no, no tendría este precio. Habitaciones amplias y espacio exterior lleno de árboles y naturaleza en pleno centro. En el restaurante son muy muy lentos y la comida es bastante cara. El restaurante da a la bahía y es muy agradable pero el tiempo de espera 1h /1:15h No hacer bajo ningún concepto la excursión de los pájaros cantores. Es un timo. Todo el grupo que éramos de diferentes nacionalidades protestamos y nos devolvieron algo de dinero. 5 minutos en llegar al puente y 15 segundos escuchando el sonido a través de unos auriculares compartidos con el grupo. Très bien entretenu Les petites cabanes sont très fonctionnelles avec toutes une vue sur le lagon et elles possèdent toutes une terrasse L’équipe de restauration n’était pas très agréable ! Il y avait une fête organisé pendant le repas ce qu’on a vraiment ressentis sur le délais pour avoir notre commande . Nous sommes arrivés à 20h00 et nous sommes repartis à 23h00 du restaurant …
• Barry (9/5): Exceeded our expectations - Beautiful location and grounds right on the lagoon. Pool was great - very big and lovely (warm) temperature. Delicious restaurant food. Super comfortable beds. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great to be able to hire bikes from the resort. Similar to other reviews, the wait for food in the restaurant was excessive at dinner time (the only time we ate there). We waited 1hr from ordering the first night (the staff had warned us there could be a 45min wait so we were prepared), went earlier the second night to avoid the busiest time but ended up waiting 1.5hrs. Learnt by the third night that pre-ordering food for a specific time was the best way to do it. The food is really good when it arrives though. Our room was pretty basic and could do with some updating but it was clean and for the money was very good value.

• Kelly (5/5): Don’t bother - Welcome drinks and information was good. Location was accessible to main island. Could be so much better. We ended up here after the hotel before was even worse. Setting could be great but tired and not well maintained. Swimming pool in disrepair and not overly clean. Room was awful - resembled a basement where people are kept against their will. We had two children in tow so just made do for the night but I wouldn’t bother. Expensive for the room with no breakfast too.

• Sven (9/5): - Het is een prachtig resort in een nog niet zo toeristische stad! Ze helpen je graag en het is een schoon en netjes resort. Je kan er heerlijk eten en het ontbijt is ook goed. Helaas is het zwembad in mindere staat.
• Peter (1/5): Oud en viezig, geen resort - Het gebouw waar je aankomt. Alles is zwaar . Zwembad tegeltjes die los zitten en een beetje groenig zijn. Zwaar tegenvallende viezige oude kamers. Slecht restaurant.
• Duncan (5/5): Ok if you’re on a tight budget but keep expectations low - Pool. Very small and gloomy rooms. Barely room to move and no storage to unpack anything. If you’re noise sensitive, the wildlife will keep you awake. A/C in our room was too loud to keep on. The place has no atmosphere and the food portions were small. We left after one night, instead of the booked five.
• Anouk (8/5): - Grosses sauberes zimmer und schöne grosse Anlage. Personal sehr bemüht. Viele Fliesen im Pool waren beschädigt und auch die Möbel sind etwas in die Jahre gekommen.
• Guillaume (8/5): Un très bon camping - L’emplacement top, le personnel très sympathique. Le délai d’attente au resto et au petit déjeuner était de plus d’une heure… les logement sont des containers réaménagé : c’est plus un camping qu’un hôtel : si on le sait c’est cool, si on ne sait pas ça fait drôle….
• Joeri (8/5): - Landgoed en de tuinen aan de rivier en het grote zembad Kamers zijn zeer ouderwets en koelkast ontbreekt
• cedric (6/5): - Le personnel a été compréhensif de notre mécontentement pour le dinner et a eu un geste commercial. Attente interminable au restaurant pour le dinner, plus d’1h30 et pour le petit déjeuner, 1h. Les plats sont arrivés froids et mal cuisinés. La piscine est vieillissante avec des parties non accessibles.
• anouk (7/5): - Cabanes et extérieurs sympa, piscine très jolie, emplacement parfait et personnel très agréable. Pour le prix le petit déjeuner pourrait être inclus
• Priscille (8/5): A pleasant spot for a stay while visiting Batticaloa - Friendly staff and comfortable rooms, although slightly outdated. The kids really enjoyed the swimming pool. There was a slight wait at the restaurant.
• Lívia Hegyi (5/5): - The resort area is huge with lots of uncultivated space that you can explore. There is a pool which was nice. This place is quite far from the city, basically it's the only place around so they don't feel they need to do much in terms of pleasing the guests. Considering that the restaurant was terrible in both service and food quality.
• Merel (7/5): Fijne plek, in de natuur - Het is een heerlijke plek, vol met mooie planten en eindeloos veel vogels. Heerlijk aan het water hadden wij een klein hutje op palen. Het is wat verouderd, maar wij hebben het er heerlijk gehad. Het restaurant is nieuw, het eten was heerlijk en het personeel was super vriendelijk. Het zwembad was lekker, maar zou wat schoner mogen. Het is wat verouderd.
• Camille (8/5): Un bel endroit pour un très bon rapport qualité prix - Le lieu est très beau. Tout est disponible et accessible sur place. Le personnel est très serviable et la piscine vraiment belle au milieu de la nature. La chambre est un peu vétuste et la salle de bain presque rudimentaire, pas d’eau chaude

• Kim (6/5): - Cadre général plutôt sympa. Equipe sympathique mais relativement lente. Alors qu'il n'y avait pas grand monde, il y a eu une lenteur considérable à la réalisation de notre repas du soir (plus d'1h30 d'attente). Mais le gérant nous a proposé un mocktail en attendant, gentille attention. L'appartement est un cube en bois surchauffé, très peu confortable. N'espérez pas vous y reposer. La propreté peut être améliorée.
• Petra (9/5): Sehr schönes Resort - Ein wunderschönes Resort mit einem parkähnlichen Garten, das auf Nachhaltigkeit und erneuerbare Energie setzt. Wir haben uns überaus wohl gefühlt und wären gerne länger geblieben. Der Pool war definitiv zu warum, aber das liegt am Klima.

• Samara (9/5): Perfect to relax time - It is a resort for relaxation. The pool is nice. After check out they let us stay by the pool until our taxi arrived. The staff was good They were not as helpful as in the guest houses in the search for public-transportation or connections to our next destination.
• Petra (10/5): Außergewöhnliches Eco-Resort - Ein wunderschönes, an der Lagune von Batticaloa gelegenes Resort, das sehr auf Nachhaltigkeit und Umweltfreundlichkeit setzt. Es ist unglaublich sauber und das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die Parkanlage ist auch sehr gepflegt. Wir blieben nur eine Nacht, aber wenn wir gewusst hätten, dass es so toll ist, dann wären wir bestimmt einen Tag länger geblieben. Der Pool war eindeutig zu warm, aber das liegt am Klima dort.
• Matthias (10/5): - Tolle weitläufige Anlage mit absolut sauberen Räumen und selbst die Toilette im Restaurant sind In einem hervorragenden Zustand. Pool sauber und ausreichend groß. Kleines Highlight ist die Modelleisenbahnanlage.
