Guest Reviews
- robertrR7WX (10/5): Great owners - The price was right. Not your fancy hotel downtown, but a place to sleep and relax.
The owners went above and beyond to take care of me .
A lot going on, rebuilding after the tornados. Yet took time for me. Everything was clean. Bathroom is a little dated, but I'm not living in there. I do my business and have.
- TrailsCzar14 (8/5): Great value and excellent service. - Booked a room on a whim since I was stuck in Bloomington that day. Didn't expect much due to the price, but was pleasantly surprised by how clean and comfortable the room was. I'm really impressed by the responsive owner who took the time to come to my room late at night to fix the satellite TV. The location is also excellent and I highly recommend if you're able to find a room here.
- smile100h (8/5): Old Fashion Way - Though this motel decor is not up-to-date, it's clean and quiet. We had a good night sleep. Check-in was quick and staff explained everything clearly.
Staff didn't open office door early (We left the property at 8:20am), so we couldn't enjoy a hot coffee from the office coffee pod machine. We also couldn't tell the management the problems we found in the room.
- Melissa (10/5): - The desk manager was great. He called when we hadn’t checked in by 10:00 to confirm we were still coming and provided food recommendations. The room was clean, beds comfortable. Stayed here on parents weekend and while rates were high for this property, they did not jack up the rates nearly as much as many others. An older family owned place, good choice for an economy motel only 3 miles from campus.
- Standish (4/5): - We didn't even have a fridge for the first day and a half. Plus there was at least 5-6 roaches/flies we had to kill...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - No problems
- anthony (4/5): - Not by choice but in a pinch it worked
- James (6/5): k - Old place but ok
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and quiet. Friendly and helpful staff. Only downside was no coffee maker in room. Keurig
ing machine in the office however. Great place for the price .
- Sophia (10/5): - The office staff is wonderful i enjoyed my stay so i could go fishing with my daughter i will be back for sure great location and close to lake monroe. Thanks see you soon.
- alwion (4/5): - They had a new maid they said, but room appeared to have been rented w/o being cleaned at all, food min refrigerator, condom package on floor, long black hair in the bedsheets. owner did appear upset, and all reviews I read said very clean. may be worth another shot at the price
- John (10/5): Happy with our stay - Stayed one night. Staff made sure the room heat was turned up before are arival. Called me with check in information because we were ciming in late in the evening. Room was clean and comfortable for our breif stay. Have stayed here in the past and will next time we visit family.
- Roger (8/5): - Manager was great from checkin to checkout. Was very concerned about his visitors and motel operations.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice owner. Very friendly. Helpful . The room was clean. Beds were comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - clean, comfortable, safe spot near campus at a reasonable price. the owner is very friendly and professional. would definitely stay here again!
- Marlene (10/5): Economy Inn ♥️ - Always nice and clean. The manager is very professional , nice and friendly. Love this place and the affordable prices.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I got a good comfortable very clean room without spending a lot of money. Beds are very comfortable. I would book again
- Chris (10/5): Will be staying here again - So much better than expected. Owner was very helpful, room was clean and comfortable. Chair, table fridge. Great shower also.
Will be staying there again
- Kiran (10/5): - Excellent service. Room was very clean with fresh smell.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean, safe, inexpensive place for the night - No frills motel that offered good value for money.
The owner was very pleasant and accommodating. Gave me recommendations for the are restaurants and even discussed the real estate market around Bloomington.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very Quiet and comfortable. Location was good-away from the main part of town.
- Erica (6/5): Overrated - The room was fine, but it was absolutely bare bones. There was only one chair! And no coffee, shampoo, or clock. I understand this is a motel, but when the average rating was over 7, I was expecting something a bit different. The bathroom was spectacular and bed comfortable, so I would recommend this place, just bring your own amenities!!
- Rory (8/5): Not bad at all - It's not the Fritz but it's clean and on the cheaper side of town. Sure it could use some updating like the lighting in the bathroom for us older folks but it had everything else I needed for the week. I will use them again for sure!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed here for a fishing tournament. The owner was very helpful. Had a place where we could park the boat under cameras and plug it in. He volunteered to keep an eye on it so we didn't have to pull it to go eat that night. Rooms were well kept. Much better than dealing with some big hotel.
- David (2/5): - Rude employees with rooms that leave you wanting
- Kelly (8/5): Nice stay - I would stay again. Great value.
- Bruce (8/5): - Given the area and outside appearance, the hotel was a pleasant surprise. It isn’t brand new and modern, but everything worked as it was supposed to and it was clean. Considering other Hotels in which I stayed in this price range, this one was much appreciated.
- John (8/5): - Very reasonably priced. Nice clean room and furnishings. Would definitely stay here again.
- Sarahlee (2/5): - This place over booked a room that was already paid for and when I paid for my room 30 mins prior of them trying to contact me that it been sold. The manager was rude and just wanted to refund me rather than help me get a place to stay or offering me 2 rooms for the price of one since I just wanted two beds for me and my family
- 778bonniew (10/5): Great stay - Stayed 2 nights. Came to Bloomington for Loyus Fest. This hotel is conveniently located to the festival. This prices are great. The room was clean, had everything we needed. The staff is friendly & helpful. We will always stay here when visiting Bloomington.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We booked the hotel for family to stay in for an IU family weekend. Needless to say, the room had bed bugs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - In town for a fishing tournament. The manager was very helpful. First of all he offered a very spacious parking spot for my truck and boat. These parking spaces are always a concern. Usually have to find a place away from the main parking lot which leads me to anxiety because of the thousands of dollars in equipment I have on the boat. The spot was in plain sight and only a few yards away from my room. Even had electricity to charge my batteries. The room was very clean. I arrived at 5pm and the ac was cranked and the refrigerator was cold. Room had a fridge and a microwave. A very simple small room but comfortable and clean. Shower only, and free soap. Ice is in the office which was always accessible and a short distance from all the rooms. Manager told me to make sure I filled my cooler up with ice for our tournament. I did. Awesome. Saved me a stop. I've stayed at a number of hotels and motels in Bloomington. Some 5 times the price, some comparable but this place has been the best. Quiet part of town, cheap, clean and ran by someone who cares about you and your stay.
- Barbra (10/5): - Loved this place and the property owner was very accommodating and helpful. Quiet and clean- bed and linens were very snuggly and restful . Will def stay here again
- lmao1959 (10/5): Great place to stay ! - This place was an u expected surprise ! Usually stay at Motel 6 due to price but this place was actually less pricey for the weekend I stayed . Clean , quiet and most comfortable . Friendly manager who was very helpful and a delight to talk to ! Felt very safe and secure while here - will def stay again ! Highly recommend staying here !
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quiet motel near the lake . very cozy . dated rooms but very clean
- Megan (8/5): Good for the price - The staff was extremely friendly. I was given a map and several restaurant recommendations. The room was comfortable. The air worked very well and the bathroom was spacious. Nice location, close to many restaurants.
- Harold (10/5): Would come again. - The b ed was wonderful, the shower wonderful, the A/C was noisy but did the work its suppose to. We would stay again!
- Judesray (10/5): - Manager very friendly, and ready to help me. He made sure I had water, coffee, and gave directions, he also rrecommended food. For the price it was awesome , clean, quite.
- Tracy (6/5): Rooms are very old and quaint but clean. - Man that checked us in was very friendly. Brought extra towels straight to our room. Room was old but clean. Was surprised to find a mini fridge and microwave in the room.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This motel feels like it hasn’t been updated since the 1960s and it would have been a pretty bare-bones experience even then. It’s Motel 6 minus the luxury. Although I will give it good marks for cleanliness all things considered.
- Verified traveler (2/5): They said they didn't have any reservation for me - The told me they had no reservation and I had to find a room else where
- atoa7 (10/5): Great price/great stay - I stayed here while visiting some friends and family. It fulfilled all basic needs and more. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. Couldn’t have asked for a better price. Will definitely return when in town.
- marting5906 (2/5): avoid - i had a friend to reserve me a room since i was out of town for the martin luther king holiday..when i got there there was only one bed so i slept in a chair ..i seen a few dead bedbugs on the floor the next day i got up went got my scooter out of storage .i was met by the property manger who yelled hey you can not take that in the room..who are you anyways.felt like a scene from that movie wrong turn..we had a few words then he said i dont want you on the property then told my friend a white guy the owner wants to speak to him..they told him he cold come back and stay but didnt want my kind there..he said i am not a racist and if he leaves i am too..so i went on line got a room through booking.com and met some nice business people who got me a room for a week..the tv there was from the early 90s no tub ..the heat was built in to the ac wall window unit..i will never go back there even if they offered me free weeks..reminds me of the bates motel and being a black man they dont seem to be very friendly..you will be better if you go to a place in town or where they are more business oriented
- 158joer (10/5): Great experience. Friendly, helpful staff - Great cheap, clean place to stay for a weekend near campus and catch an IU football game. Obviously doesn't have the bar, lobby, pool, etc that a hotel would have, but for those that are out and about all day, you don't need it.
The owner is great. I 'lost' my wallet mid stay and let him know about it. He proceeded to get me a phone number to call at the University for lost and found. Also, he checked with his staff to see if they found anything, to no avail.
However, on my drive home (4 Hrs away) the staff apparently found it while cleaning. Without hesitation, he called and asked if I wanted it sent overnight or through three day mail to the address on my license! Received my wallet, and I couldn't thank him enough! I can't pay him forward enough, but hopefully this Yelp review helps!
- Brice (10/5): Preferred to other motels in town - I've visited Bloomington a few times usually for IU events, and stayed at a few different places in town. I loved my stay at the Economy Inn. I've stayed at different locations in town and this was my best experience yet. I was hesitant at first because I thought it looked like an older property however after reading all the positive reviews I decided to book a room. The rooms were great and updated with nicer bathrooms then most places I've stayed. Everything was clean and comfortable. However, one of the nicest parts of the stay was the Manager. He really cares about making the stay perfect. He spent time giving me recommendations around town I wasn't familiar with. I usually don't take the time to write reviews but did because I had such a great experience.
- Tricia (10/5): Will stay here every time! - I visit Bloomington all the time (go Hoosiers!) and now that I’ve found this hidden gem I’ll be never stay anywhere else! You’ll never beat the price for the nicest staff you’ll ever meet (they have insider information that I didn’t discover during my 4 years at school) and the rooms are super clean!
- Kara (10/5): Amazing staff, great hotel value - Great staff, super clean, great location, great price! Highly recommend this hotel.
- Tristin (10/5): - Great experience with Economy Inn! Comfortable bed, clean, very friendly staff, and an easy check-in process.
- gbmoms (6/5): A few issues - Quiet. Clean. Outside, south of Bloomington. Bathroom window was taped together pieces of plastic held closed by a piece of pvc pipe. Shower grout has black sections of mildew. Base board heaters are clearly vintage and much abused but work. Beds are small. Wifi works well. TV reception was not especially good, lots of static and sound was garbled. Microwave, fridge and mirror were new. Shower was large but had husband cover busted window with a towel. It has a curtain but was unnerved by the window. Seems to have a few permanent guests. If i was alone i probably wouldnt be back was ok in a pinch with husband.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bed bugs #2 - If I hadn't found bed bugs, this room would have been just fine. I woke up at 230 with a very itchy leg and saw something crawling across the bed. I caught that one to show the management and saw one on the other bed. Also, bring your own shampoo.
- Jerry (2/5): Bed bugs - I found a bed bug on my pillow, other than that it was fine. Employees were great, super nice and really interested in learning about you.
- Ben (10/5): Good Simple hotel - Good, clean hotel. Nothing fancy but did the job, which was a good, cheap, and clean bed to sleep in for a night. 👍
- Verified traveler (10/5): close - to college and great staff. Had problem with shower draining and came right over and took care of the problem. Easy access to all of Bloomington.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Close to caverns - The only complaint we had was the room was so hot since the AC was off took quite awhile for the room to cool down. Otherwise a very good price for a place to sleep which is all we needed, no frills.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Best bang for buck - We thought that this should be rated more than a 2 Star Motel as you can tell they have put in the extra money and effort to update their rooms (new paint, bedding, countertops, showers, etc). Even the room "college-size" refrigerator had a separate freezer section that refroze all our ice packs. Quite area, not in the main part of town, but close enough to food and gas.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Room did not seem very clean. Was very dated. Guy at the front counter was nice, but the front office isn't staffed. You have to call a number and wait for someone to check you in. General area was fine, but the motel itself was shady. Got stopped in the parking lot a few times by random people.
- Sarah (10/5): A lovely stay before touring campus - Wonderful stay. Wanted to show the niblings campus and my old coworkers. It was less than 5 miles from campus so didnt have to worry about any loud students nearby. Jay, the man at the front desk, was very friendly and helpful. The only downside was that it's near the race track and there was a race the night we stayed there. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay for myself and the niblings.
- cliff and lynn (10/5): Great value for nice, clean, safe area, - Loved the bed, the shower, spacious rooms, very clean. Smelled good Too! We would gladly return.
- Amy (6/5): A clean, safe place to stay and smelled fine - The lady at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. The walls were pretty thin but overall a very decent place to stay for the price.
- 9garye (8/5): There for business - The owner was very nice and helpful. The room was very clean and neat. For an older property it is well taken care of. The bathroom was very clean and well taken care of. The owner gave me great ideas for diner that night. The rooms are not large but finished nicely.
- trrslevi1 (10/5): Home away from home...` - While in Bloomington I can't explain how helpful the manger was at this motel. He directed me to some of the best spots to eat and things to do. Room was super clean and overall I enjoyed my stay very much. I'll definitely be back, and this is where I plan to stay --- which is a true testament to the quality!
- GEWorldTraveler (10/5): Great experience and nice rooms - The rooms are always super clean and quaint. I have stayed here a couple of times when I've come to Bloomington for business. The service and the great price here is what keeps me coming back. The manager Jay is what made my stay!
- Road_to_paradise (8/5): Cleanest and cheapest place in town! Only one unpleasant surprise. - The hotel room was spotless and the manager was extremely pleasant and helpful. The hotel had already put mattress liners on all the mattresses to prevent bedbugs, but we got a dozen bites anyway. It really isn't the fault of the hotel, their guests bring them in and they are nearly impossible to keep out without spraying. I suggested he spray the room for them. If he does that, it should take care of the problem and I wouldn't be afraid to stay there again. The room didn't stink like most cheap hotel rooms. And it really was spotless. Even had a small refrigerator and a big flat screen TV. Seriously -- try and find a cheap hotel without bedbugs! If you're going to stay in cheap hotels, you take a chance. We've seen much, much worse in New York City.
- tigran1987 (10/5): Best motel I stayed in - I was positively surprised by the high quality and cleanness of the motel. It was more like a real hotel with a fridge, TV set and other nice things in a room. Ideal for business, convenient for the university visitors. Manager Jay was extremely friendly too.
- cswroe (6/5): Basic, inexpensive, clean. - Price was right, and room received for that price was expected. It is pretty basic offerings, but this was business so I was not needing too much. Bed was comfortable, room was clean but dated. Area is quiet for the most part. They do have long-term tenants and apartments that stay further back from the regular rooms, so you may end up with someone working on their car and revving the engine, but that was pretty short and overall much quieter that the Springhill Suites I stayed at a couple weeks prior.
The owner was not on site when I arrived, but did have the person at the desk call him when I checked-in and he apologized for not being there to meet me. When I returned one afternoon later in my stay, he did come to my room and introduce himself, apologized again told me if I needed anything to contact him.
Will most likely be staying again if in the area for business. It is far enough out of town to be quiet, and close enough to shopping to not be inconvenient.
- 193deannaj (2/5): Nasty. - Stayed 3 minutes and ask for refund and found another place to stay. Room smelled like an ashtray. It was just nasty. Man at the front desk reminded me of Norman Bates. From the movie Bates motel.........
- LovetoTraveltoo51 (10/5): Great value and a good night's sleep! - Enjoyed two nights at this motel recently. The room had a very comfortable king-size bed, and was complete with a TV, microwave and refrigerator. The bathroom, while small, had a large walk-in shower with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Bottled water and coffee were offered in the office. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable about the area and took pride in being able to offer this great little gem to their customers. I will definitely stay here again when in the area. It's location is just a few minutes drive to the downtown and Indiana University. The cost was very reasonable and we felt it was a great value. You just don't see many places like this anymore!
- HobartP12 (8/5): Perfect for Us - Clean rooms, fridge & microwave, and a nice walk-in shower (RM 107). Busy weekend, so we just needed somewhere to leave our stuff and sleep. Worked very well for our needs and price was unbeatable. South of town where there was much less traffic, too. Desk personnel were very polite and helpful.
- CharlesS488 (8/5): It is not the Marriott but neither is the cost per night. - It is a nice comfortable room with clean linen and a very helpful staff that was very accommodating when I asked for an extra room when my mother decided to join us on the trip to Bloomington. The rooms are not spacious with two beds but they were comfortable and clean and fresh towels every day and a shower that was nice and big. No tub but who wants one anyway. The prices were reasonable and the location out of town but confinient to grocery store, gas station and not to far from Starbucks and fast food for the morning meal. We will revisit the Economy Inn the next time we are in Bloomington.
- tiresturning (6/5): great place to stay and valued right - Will Stay Again!
Hotel is clean, nice parking, many food options just north and south of it with a grocery. Owner is friendly, helpful, and happy. It is family owned. The room was clean, and fairly up to date! Need to bring shampoo and conditioner. If leaving early before office opens there is a gas station just south of it for coffee. Most food, gas and grocery is less than a mile. Very Pleased for the price. A mini frig, microwave, and laundry available.
- GEWorldTraveler (10/5): Great Boutique Motel! - This is the second time I've stayed at the Economy Inn. While it's not the usual Marriott I stay at the customer service has always been beyond great. I think it's run by a family and they go out of their way to make sure my stay is great. It's a quick drive to downtown and to the IU campus but it's also in a quieter area which I like. My favorite part is the FREE WIFI that I think is high speed which I don't always get at the nicer hotels. Although it's not a fancy hotel, the room has everything I need. It's clean, a comfortable bed, and overall a good nights sleep. I suggest calling for the best rate rather than going through expedia. It's a good place to stay during IU basketball games, homecoming games, or graduation which is usually the times I come down.
