Guest Reviews
- Stephanie (10/5): - Food at restaurant was wonderful, beautiful view and wonderful breeze from balcony looking over the river. Staff service exceptional!
- Karen (10/5): - We loved this hotel! We loved the historical value and the ability to briefly step back in time to experience a time gone by. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful. We ate at the attached restaurant and were impressed with the food.
The area was beautiful and worthy of exploring. Our only regret was that we were just passing thru and didn't have time to seriously check out the area. We made a promise to ourselves that we would return specifically to enjoy the hotel and the area!
- Rose (10/5): - The fact the hotel is historic was special, loved the sitting room & balcony.
- September (10/5): Historic - Beautiful historic hotel in a great location!
- Raymond (6/5): - Property is in a great location for visiting Cumberland Island. Unfortunately there appeared to be mold under the paint in the bathroom.
- Sherry (10/5): - .
- Carole (10/5): - It was right by the ferry to get to Cumberland island. It was a great stay
- James (10/5): - Clean and quiet. Breakfast included. Very informative and nice staff
- Melissa (10/5): Great recommendation and wonderful hotel - Riverview Hotel is right above Seagles (restaurant and separate bar) with great priced drinks. Across the street, I’d recommend Souther River Walk for dinner, it’s always great food and service). Both places had live entertainment on their patios. Riverview Hotel was great! George checked us in and he was kind, even offered us an umbrella when he found out we were walking around the riverfront (it looked like it was going to rain).
- Justin (10/5): - Such an adorable little town. Staff was super friendly and helpful!
- Linda (8/5): - I love the location of the property and how you are not bothered by a bunch of people, I love the balcony. We sit out there with a glass of wine and the location can’t be beat.
- Peggy (10/5): - Loved everything about the place, a step back in time
- Ruth (8/5): - Cool hotel. Clean, close to the ferry to Cumberland Island. Enjoyed our stay.
- David (10/5): Historic Stay - Very quaint experience. Staff was very friendly. Place is historic with a lot of character
- Julie (10/5): - It was so charming and we loved the ambiance. Walking downstairs for live music and breakfast and dinner was a wonderful bonus!
- Stacy (8/5): - Historic hotel with lots of character and charm.
- Kevin F (10/5): - Nice old timey hotel. Friendly staff.
- Amanda (10/5): - This is a great place to stay. We stayed there the night before going to Cumberland island.
The people at the desk were kind and helpful.
The room was clean and had great character.
The bed was comfortable.
They had live entertainment on the patio. It was great because they had a good dinner restaurant, served a continental breakfast and we were able to order lunches for the hike! Loved how this hotel had everything.
- Melissa (10/5): - Absolutely perfect location and stay to visit Cumberland Island! Location is great, rooms were very nice, and the staff was very friendly! Highly recommend the attached restaurant/bar and the band outside on the patio Saturday night was super entertainment. St. Mary's is a great place to visit!
- James (10/5): - Great location and warm
Staff.
- THOMAS (8/5): St. Mary’s - St. Mary’s is a quaint little town. We were only staying overnight on our way home from the Gulf coast.
- Linda (8/5): - Liked being down by the waterfront that was pretty clean. The restaurant saloon served great food. As expected with a historic hotel, the rooms were small with limited outlets room on the bedside table and no coffee in the room. Lovely porch rocking chairs. Be prepared to lug your suitcases upstairs. Bed was very comfy.
- David (10/5): - Nice historic hotel. Staff was very friendly and sits right in historic St Mary’s. Great place to stay if visiting Cumberland Island. The second story common porch is a great place to sit and have some tea
- Karen (10/5): - Really cute historic property!
- Homer (10/5): - The hotel and staff made us feel at home. The location across from the water was lovely and we loved the elevated porch and chairs. A rare jewel.
- Barbara (10/5): Best place to stay! - We stay here every time we come to St. Mary’s….we love this quaint, quiet, friendly historic Inn!
- Lauren (10/5): Quaint relaxing stay - Lovely quaint stay in a historic hotel. Beautiful location on the river, in the heart of this tiny town. Room was comfortable and clean, with old fashioned style.
- Joel (6/5): Okay place - Neat historical building, needs a bit of TLC and furnishing replacements. Biggest issue was the noise, our room was adjacent to the bar and there was an ice machine that was constantly being used until 3:00 AM, they would slam the door on it and it made it impossible to sleep.
- BOBBY (8/5): - Great location for the events for St Mary’s
- Susan (10/5): This hotel should be on your bucket list. - We loved this historic hotel. The owners take a lot of pride in the property and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Our room was comfy and loved the porch!!
The view is fantastic
- Robert (2/5): Complete incompetence -- overpriced - Mixed me up with other employees who "stay over in
unassigned rooms" Clerk switched me to room 12 which was not documented...got a knock on my door the next morning with good morning and WHO ARE YOU ??
Complete incompetence and the breakfast is a joke.
- Diane (8/5): - This is a historic hotel, lots of stories and perhaps ghosts! Wonderful food, and so convenient to the ferry to Cumberland Island
- John (10/5): Getaway - Truly amazing location. Room was excellent. The verandah terrace was great for people watching
- Gary (6/5): Old Historic Hotel that needs upgrades - Historic hotel that needs upgrades. Service was very good and the bar and restaurant are great. However, the room needed to be painted, the linens were dirty upon arrival, the mattress was bad, and the bathroom needed to be upgraded. It's a 2 star place.
- Dyna (8/5): - It's an old fashioned hotel in a historic town. I'm usually just focused on getting to Cumberland island but we spent 2 nights this time at the hotel. The beds were marvelously comfortable and the meals were excellent. The staff were great. Thanks so much!
- Dyna (10/5): - This is a historic hotel and my husband and I over the years have stayed the night on our way to camp at Cumberland Island. This time friends and I stayed before and after the island trip at the hotel. So we were able to better focus on the hotel. The beds were marvelously comfortable and the dining room and hotel staff were excellent. Thanks!
- Susan (10/5): - I love this hotel! The rooms are full of character, the beds are comfy, and everything is very clean. All of the people working there were friendly and helpful and approachable. It’s a super fun place to stay!
- Ronald (10/5): - Very histoeic. Of course.showing its age
- Brian (10/5): - We had such a welcoming friendly stay here at the Inn. Great location!
- melanie (8/5): - a beautiful little town. Almost pristine downtown river walk. Designed to be inviting. AMd this hotel is streams to be inviting! s well. Þhe hotel is like going back in time. with the comfort of grandma house And some of thequirky charm as we)l.
- Marie (10/5): - Beautiful historic hotel.
- Dr. Barry (10/5): - Amazing location. And we hiked cumberland island saw the horses
- James (6/5): - Really just an average property. Room was smaller, above the pub which made it noisey late into the night.
Had dinner at the restaurant. Again just average at best. Had the crab bisque and cajun pasta. The bisque was good but the pasta was drowning in the sauce... the bisque had a thicker consistency. The food was piled up on my table, no timing with the service.
You never know until you try, won't be trying this place again...
- James (10/5): - Beautiful Historic Hotel!
- Laura (8/5): - Nice clean hotel, a little tight. Bathroom fan didn’t work. But overall a very nice stay.
- Irma (10/5): - Friendly staff.
- Lynda (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay! We loved the hotel and the location!
- Michelle (10/5): - Such a quaint and comfortable place! I loved our stay and the staff or all so friendly and helpful.
- David (10/5): - It was a nice quiet trip for us. It is in a beautiful area, with good food and comforts. We will be bavk
- Robert (2/5): - Way overpriced for what it was. My wife mouthed dropped in disappointment . The rooms were so very cheap and tacky. Advertised as a balcony room but was not. The balcony was outside but you had to enter it through another entrance in the hotel. However the front desk people were so very nice.
- Pat G (10/5): Quaint/Quiet and relaxing stay - Very nice stay. Quiet and loved the river view from our room. Also, loved the history of the hotel and how well preserved it has been kept. George welcomed us and he was a very nice gentleman. Loved the restaurants/shops in the quaint little town and even enjoyed a night of karaoke.
- Susan Heilig (10/5): - Great views from the balcony! Clean and convenient to the Ferry landing.
- Debbie (10/5): - history on the hotel
- michelle conley (10/5): - Love this historic property! Quaint and charming rooms. 24 hour coffee. Very friendly and helpful staff. We will be back!
- Marcela (8/5): - The property was nice and cozy.
There is not much to do around, but Cumberland Island was fun.
The breakfast was disappointing, but the rest was OK.
- David (10/5): Quant & beautiful view fir sunrise and sunset - My wife stayed the night before she went over to camp on Cumberland…she Absolutly loved it. She said quant and very comfortable. Glass of wine on the balcony at sunset and cup of coffe for sunrise…priceless. I am. Going next time!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Awesome location and overall experience - The hotel is in a prime location to access the Cumberland Island Ferry, the water-front, and parks. The room fit the time period of the hotel - neat and clean but dated. The included continental breakfast was varied, fresh, and filling. The restaurant food and service were awesome. The staff was extremely nice and helpful.
Our only issue came in the evening when the bar music invaded our room. Our room was directly over the open-air bar so every evening until 10-10:30 we had to listen to the music. Thank goodness the entertainment had talent.
- Ron (10/5): - The room very nice smaller then we thought but we not in there much clean and well kept staff very friendly only downside is no clock in room
- Connie (10/5): - Great location to get to Cumberland Island visito center and National seashore.
Friendly and accomodating staff.
Beautiful Vintage style hotel
- Lynne (10/5): - Quaint historic property with amazing water views. It was like stepping back in time.
- Judith (10/5): - Very convenient to the ferry dock.
- William (10/5): - Handy.
- Craig (10/5): - This historic hotel sits right in the quaint town of St. Marys, GA, and right on the St. Marys River, directly across from the ferry to Cumberland Island. The hotel has a great saloon on site that locals love, and a good restaurant providing fresh seafood and other fare. If you’re seeking a hotel that has lots of character and a funky vibe, this is it. We won’t stay anywhere else when we visit this beautiful area.
- Mark (10/5): - Interesting, historic building in a great location.
- Charles (2/5): - They had no record of my reservation
- Verified traveler (6/5): Riverview Hotel experience - Funky room with sink in the bed area. Was told I was in the back of the hotel which sounded great until I realized the windows were next to the bar which had a band playing every night. I overheard several other guests complaining about this as well (I did not). The last morning I was there I received a loud knock on the door at 7:30am informing me that I needed to move my car from the street immediately. Could someone not informed me the previous evening? This was a planned tree trimming event. Front desk staff were definitely not friendly.
- David (10/5): - Accommodations are simple with historic appointments. Love the old place and will return.
- Todd (10/5): - Great stay! Charming old history hotel. Highly recommend!
- Steve (10/5): - It’s always a treat staying here for thanksgiving!
- Mike (10/5): - Perfect stay
- Dolores (8/5): - Property was very unique. It was very clean. Breakfast could definitely be improved a little. Only complaint we had about service was the fact that we didn’t get hand towels which was not a big deal. Hotel is convenient, with easy parking. We never moved our car. You could walk to everything.
- Michelle (10/5): Perfect location and lovely historical hotel - This is an adorable and quaint little historic hotel in a perfect location. Quiet (except for the band downstairs which cuts off early enough) and located near several bars and restaurants. We did not have the opportunity to take the ferry out to the island because it was a quick stopover on the way home from a long trip for us, but we'd really like to go back and do that. The staff is friendly and helpful. While the rooms are old fashioned, the bathrooms are modern and up to date. We loved it!
- Lauren (10/5): - I loved this spot. We ferried out to Cumberland island, and this hotel is literally right across the street from the ferry. Staff were pleasant, and there was an option to purchase a packed lunch for Cumberland island. Restaurant connected has good food and live bands. Love the old time charm of the hotel and town!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel offers a very basic breakfast without protein.
The photos in the website should be updated to reflect the interior decoration.
Reception should provide information about the neighborhood, restaurants, Cumberland island ferry, and local activites and it doesn't.
Price of rooms should be less Monday through Thursday; they are too high.
There should be a suggestion book or box.
Entrance area needs a friendlier atmosphere.
Day staff was very friendly.
:-)
- Larry (10/5): Old Hotel - Super cute! Old hotel so don’t expect much in amenities. Room was clean and staff was friendly and courteous. Walkable to shops and water. More of a bread and breakfast vibe. Loved it but bed could have been a bit more comfortable.
- Russell (10/5): - We were in town primarily to visit Cumberland Island National Seashore. The Riverview Inn is literally across the street from the visitor center and ferry dock — could not have been more convenient! Room was clean; staff was friendly; full service restaurant downstairs; even a karaoke bar attached to lobby. Breakfast was minimal but we knew this in advance and it was still plenty (bagels, cereal, yogurt, danishes, OJ, and coffee). We would definitely (and likely will) stay there again.
- Davina (10/5): - Everything was perfect! Wonderful people and atmosphere!! We will definitely be back!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Simple and old hotel by the riverfront. - Basic hotel close to the river. Not much amenities. Breakfast can be improved.
- Daniel (10/5): - Very friendly
- Crystal (10/5): - Everything
- June (10/5): - Very nice staff. A pleasant stay.
- Tina (10/5): Great place to stay!!!!!!! - Great historic hotel, everyone at the front desk and restaurant are very friendly and helpful with info on the ferry ride to Cumberland Island, which is right across the street. They will fix a lunch for 10.00 for the island which contains sandwich, chips ,drink and fruit, all you have to do is order the night before. Very convenient.
- John (10/5): - One of the better Inns we've ever stayed at. Bed was super comfortable and pillows were great. Hard water made it difficult to get a decent lather but was ok.
George was fantastic upon our arrival and throughout our stay. Short breakfast Sunday morning was fine, we're not big breakfast eaters anyway.
Will be back.
- Maureen (2/5): - Dirty room with gross brown smears of something on the door facing inside room, nasty brown stain on ceiling over bed, dark brown drip going down wall about 8 inches, unhelpful staff, don’t expect them to answer any questions well, unsafe doors, no deadbolt, no inside latch, wobbly doorknob set into old wooden door frame that can easily be kicked in, very loud all night with live music downstairs and loud slamming doors all throughout. Don’t expect to sleep. Do not expect help with luggage. None was offered. No greeting. Takes payment as soon as you walk in and “checkin” doesn’t ask if the card you reserved the room with is how you would like to pay. Management isn’t there until 3 pm. Parking is on street in front of hotel with about 5 spaces to parallel park. Staff very unmotivated and difficult to get much information from even when you ask. Would not recommend this hotel for safety reasons and because it is dirty. The antique furniture appeared and was unkept. Not cleaned or polished in who knows how long. Disappointed on so many levels. Find another place to stay. I thought it would be a nice convenient place to stay but it isn’t worth all of that. I would stay in a larger chain hotel and drive the 5 miles or so to get to the ferry. There is a parking lot right across the street from the ferry checkin and welcome center just for that purpose. Especially if you have kids do not stay here.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Very unique, quaint hotel. Perfect location for the ferry. Seagales was a wonderful restaurant for dinner!
- Cynthia (8/5): - I know this is an older establishment but I was surprised that it is not ADA compliant.
- Patricia (10/5): - Everyone was nice and helpful was older building but kept very nice and clean
- linda (10/5): - LIKED - George is outstanding with guests and shows he loves his job.
DISLIKED - Scarce close parking for elders
- Barbara (10/5): Great historic hotel - Friendly, quaint old historic hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location for walking - Staff was fantastic and very friendly. Property needs some updates and repairs.
- Christine (10/5): - Love it!
- John (4/5): - Shabby environment with almost-non-existent breakfast
- Jennifer (8/5): - The light outside our window made the room very light at night and we noticed a significant amount of differed maintenance. The bed, not the best.
- Emily (10/5): - .
- Julie (6/5): - My mom and I stayed here for a couple of nights. We enjoyed our stay here but have suggestions. Staff was really friendly and helpful.
When booking, no mention that all guest rooms are on the second floor and there is no elevator. My mom has knee issues and we would have liked to have known this first. Since all guest rooms are on the second floor, it was quiet and comfortable. The veranda overlooking the seashore was amazing. However, no coffee or ice on the 2nd floor (where all guest rooms are) despite there being a clear area for this.
Room was clean but needs updates (like flat surfaces to put suitcases)
Parking was a problem. There are few rooms but the hotel has done nothing to secure parking for those limited guests. On arrival, we were told that due to independence day, we would need to move our car at midnight the night before we were leaving and park "anywhere there is no sign - maybe down by the church?". At over $200 a night, the hotel should have provided a parking solution - whether a designated parking lot or at least having someone pick up/deliver to parking so we were not lugging all of our items 3 blocks to reach the car.
Overall had an enjoyable stay but would have been perfect with just those few things.
- Christine (10/5): - Southern hospitality at its best!
- Dana (8/5): Old - Old and a noisy bed. Breakfast could have been better no counter space
- Alexis (10/5): - It was very nice!
- Savannah (8/5): - Wonderful hotel!
- Jodie (10/5): - Relaxing and convenient to everything I wanted to do.
