Guest Reviews
- Brian (10/5): - Casual. Simple. Cozy and comfortable, inside and out; multiple places to hang. Great location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very disappointed that we were promised one room got another and then felt like we could not even even talk without waking people up. No dampening panels would be a great idea!
- Cheryl (2/5): Not what advertised - I booked a suite with a balcony and a view to the street but ended up in the helps room in the back of a house. The celling was falling in and crakes in the walls. The ceiling fan only had 4 blades and the only window in the whole place had an AC unit in it.
The house we ended up in was not the one in the photo.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent place to stay in New Orleans!!!! - The hostess was very friendly and accommodating. Conditions were very clean, comfortable and homey. Other guests were friendly clean as well
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Loved the location... nearby everything in whichever direction you choose to travel
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed in the rose cottage, and it was wonderful. The cottage has a private bathroom, with a loft bedroom and a daybed downstairs, so my friend and I were each able to have our own spaces during our stay. There was no TV in the cottage, which suited our purposes, as this was a writing retreat for us. Coffee and breakfast items were available in the main house, to which we had access with a security code, so we had the same amenities as everyone else. We had a great time, and would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - They had roaches and the roof leaks and it just felt dirty
- Tabatha (10/5): Cutest placeđź’• - The esplanade house was adorable and comfortable. I enjoyed it immensely.
- Verified traveler (4/5): There's more but it won't fit - I feel bad because the owner is truly a nice guy, but my main issue here is how falsely represented the place was on my booking site.
Y'all. I am gonna be honest. I hated it. First, this is a HOSTEL or "guest house". The bathrooms are shared, which was bad because nobody regularly cleaned the bathtub so there was lint and hair, not to mention six inches of water by the time you were done showering. Also someone's shower beer was left there for a solid few days. The other bathroom was rundown. I'm not sure how often the bathrooms are cleaned, but the tubs were visibly grody. Pack your shower shoes.
WiFi is completely terrible unless you're by the router. We were not, so our WiFi clocked in at 4-7 Mbps. Like, the single digits.
The room has no closets and our lamp had no lightbulb. Quiet hours after 10 because you can actually hear, word for word, the conversations of people in neighboring rooms who are speaking at normal conversation volume. The rooms have nothing but a bed and dresser and night table. No such comforts as TV, fridge, or microwave. Didn't expect these, just letting people know in case they expect something closer to a hotel accommodation, or what was listed on hotels.com that misleads you to believe it's in your room.
Shared kitchen stocked with breakfast that stocks carby processed foods including granola, Cheerios, donuts, and other dessert type bars. Wash your own dishes and clean all common areas yourself. The food was not replenished for 4 days
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a very cool place to stay. A short 15 minute walk to the French Quarter. Shares bathroom was not an issue whatsoever. There are actually 2 bathrooms. Alan is very nice and made us feel at home. Loved the area would definitely go back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I have no complaints everything was great I would love to come back and stay there maybe next month thanks for the great service
- Emily (8/5): - Staff was extremely friendly, but the same beer can was in the bathroom for 3 days, and the other shower was filthy when we arrived. I'd still recommend this place, the house and rooms are gorgeous, so much better than a chain hotel, hands down.
- Melanie (10/5): Beautiful place - Beautiful place. It’s safe and quiet. In such a busy city it’s a wonderful place to rest and relax.
- Kaytlin (10/5): - Our stay was amazing! It was a little further away from the French quarter than I thought and you have to be really careful about where you walk to get there. And most times was a $7-$9 Uber ride. But over all it was pretty great!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Disappointed - I booked rhis room based on reviews. House is very old and has not been updated. 1 bathroom to serve 6 room accommodations. Moldy and rundown. Next door neighbors were up screaming New Years morning about 0730 through when we left around 1130. Neighborhood did not feel safe. Disappointed property was not as advertised and certainly wish I had booked us a hotel room. Was not what I would have paid almost $200 a night for had I seen the inside.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The guy who introduced us to the property was sweet but I honestly wish I took the time to read reviews about this place. I had to become comfortable sharing our bathroom with everyone else, sharing the kitchen, and having no bedroom closet. The breakfast included were just donuts and orange juice. The place was super dusty as well and I had to readjust to such conditions. I am happy I had a roof over my head during my stay in New Orleans however my satisfaction fell well below my expectations
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cute place. - It was amazing. Loved it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Was in a good location, Convenient to get in around the city
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was great, was very prompt with response to questions or concerns. The room was so cute and the location is perfect. I will defently be stsying there again.
- Louie (8/5): - Enjoyed the stay and the house was very beautiful and charming. Location was perfect. Allen was a very good host. Our train arrived at 6:00AM, check in time was 2:00 or 3:00PM but Allen was gracious enough to let us check in at 7:00AM. The room was small but nice and had a cool view of Esplanade ave. Allen also gave some great recommendations for local eateries, music and historical venues. The eateries and music venues were spots that the locals patronize, not touristy at all and that's what we look for when traveling. We fell in love with Lil' Dizzy's restaurant, the food was stellar and the friendly staff made us feel like family and it will from now on be a regular stop on future visits. We had a little trouble adjusting to shared bathrooms, kitchen, common rooms etc.. but the plus's far out weighed the negatives.
- Nicole (10/5): Located Next to 2 Gems of New Orleans - This corner house was definitely a great place to stay while my husband and I visited New Orleans. It's located very close to 2 landmarks of NOLA eating, Willie Mae's and Dooky Chase. We would HIGHLY recommend eating at both while visiting--totally worth it. Also, you're only a few minute walk from a CC's Coffee Shop and a grocery store where we bought food to cook at the house. The only reason we didn't give this place a perfect score was the temperature was a little too warm in our room at night, plus being next to the street, there was some noise that made things a little difficult for sleeping. But the owner was very responsive to questions we had. For the deal we got, and the customer service, we would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Serious Security Risks - Dangerous in the sense that one room key can open multiple doors there. I find this to be unsafe and inexcusable. I don't seek any reply from the owner and I discourage individuals traveling alone to be there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property is great if you're doing a ton of exploring!
- Haiming (8/5): - Location is excellent, room is clean, host response is very fast. Initially, host put us on a different house, which has private bathroom, though the shower tub is a little rusty; then upon our request, they move us to the 2200 house which is better condition, though bathroom is shared.
- Kristine (10/5): Great accommodations on a budget - We had a great time in new orleans. This little house was just what we needed on a budget. The host of this property stays away but is very attentive to needs. A quick 15 min walk to the french quarter. Made it super easy to see the big easy
- Ehab (8/5): Getaway at NOLA - This is a quirky building, shared bathrooms, kitchen, living area etc., so you should have the tolerance for that. It is close to the French Qurter but I wouldn't plan on walking there.
- Quintin (8/5): - Wonderful place to stay. Comfortable and quiet. Right in the middle of where I needed it to be.
- Stacey (8/5): Good for out and about couple - It was our first time in a shared home/suite. We only booked because it says “private booking” on the details however after booking we realized it was a shared bathroom but booked anyways. When asked on hotels.com how it was going so far, I did mention the confusion and a day later Allen texted us asking if we wanted to switch rooms to one w/a private restroom. At this time were already settled and actually didn’t have a problem with the restroom situation, the house did not seem to be full and it we never really had to wait, only once on the day we were leaving.
It’s a large home with a long hall to each suite. There is no tv in the room. It’s very quiet, you can hear the steps in the hallway and doors squeak, also important to note there’s a sign that says “quiet after 10pm” so i deff wouldn’t recommend for friends/group if you plan on being loud.
True, no breakfast but there are granola bars, donuts provided (vegan/gluten free too) some cereal and oatmeal for a quick snack before leaving. Glad there was gallons of water provided because I was dehydrated.
Shared restroom was clean and there is also soaps/shampoo and towels provided. (We weren’t sure since it wasn’t a hotel and brought ours anyways.)
Overall, i would stay again and recommend. It’s worth the price and not far from the action. Not in such a ghetto neighborhood but along a good main road.
- Alexandra (8/5): - Very beautiful home and very close to the fun stuff. Never met the person who owned the building, but they did respond quickly to messages. The room was very muggy, I suggest bringing an additional fan. Plenty of good parking too.
- robert (6/5): Nice area - There area was nice. Lots of historic value. The room was ok. Needed to be updated
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just right in the middle. - Beautiful house! It was just awkward to have to share the "private" bathrooms in the house. Also, the room we were in had the worst wifi reception and only a ceiling fan. So, at the end of summer it was just a bit too much. Allen was super kind and considerate. For the breakfast he also Included gluten free and veg an breakfast pastries. Really loved the area and how close it was to everything.
- Warren (10/5): Awesome time in the 7th Ward. - It was a fantastic weekend, wish we could have stayed longer...
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was close to all the action. But it was a bit old and run down.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - For a bed and breakfast, the breakfast was a joke!!!
No tv in room!! Shared bathroom!!
- Wesley (10/5): Perfect place for our anniversary - This place is amazing. Loved our stay but just like allot of things in New Orleans it is a little run down. Still an amazing place and meet some amazing people.
- Malcolm (10/5): Best vacation of my life! - Allen was a very kind gentleman. He showed me the definition of southern hospitality. I actually stayed in the cottage which was a huge surprise when I arrived. Checkout was at one but he allowed me to stay until 3-30 because my flight was at 5:45. Also I didn't catch the name of the maid but she was a genuine sweet woman. When I go back to Nee Orleans there is no way I'm staying anywhere else!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Easy to get to the party from here. - We enjoyed the stay at Esplanade Suites. The room and house was great. We were a 10 minute drive from the French Quarter and parking was easy to find for the hotel.
- Ruth (8/5): Good Choice-Easy Drive to Bourbon and Frenchman - Great place, beautiful historic home with airy rooms and common space. There were treats and sparkling water in the kitchen. It was clean overall and well located. My uber trips were $7-8 to and from the Bourbon Street and Frenchman areas. I found the bedding to be clean and fresh and we got a full set of towels each. The bathrooms and kitchen were very clean. We didn't meet the host, as we got in late, but everything was really straightforward so it was easy to get in and put our things away. The only complaint is that there was some noise in the morning from some kind of construction it seemed. It was a little later in the morning, like 10am, so it probably wouldn't be too much of an issue if you aren't a party type :)
I would definitely consider staying here again, it is a great deal for how clean and well located it is. I only encountered a quiet guest or two during my stay as well so it's a winner if you want a chill, affordable spot! And there was wifi which was another plus.
- Amanda (8/5): Pretty great stay - There was a dead cockroach in the bathroom all of our stay which freaked us out a bit. Overall though the rooms were pretty clean, the kitchen was nice, the management was super friendly, and I would definitely go back!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location, convenient to Convention Center - Nice place, well maintained. Good people. Only drawbacks were that the WiFi was inadequate for business use and the shared bathrooms. The price was great though, and he location was convenient. It is located in Treme neighborhood of New Orleans, which is a bit rough, so be careful.
- Melissa (4/5): Moved our Location! Not what I booked! - When I booked the "hotel" I really thought I was booking a hotel but I was not. I started realizing that a few months after I payed but how bad could it be? Well bad, I didn't even stay at the location I booked! It was a house that was not properly set up for guests at all!
1st when I booked I had to pay the "hotel" directly & not hotels.com which even after requesting on 2 occasions I never received a receipt.
2nd I needed to add two nights several months later. I called hotels.com to add the rooms through them but could not I had to contact the property owner directly which I did. He said it was no problem. Again asked for written confirmation which I never received. I went on a wing and a prayer that I had some place to stay on my last two nights. Even when we got there & I told him I requested two additional nights the answer I got was "Oh, yeah right you did. No problem."
The actual house was pretty gross! Doors & door handles hadn't been cleaned in ages, cold week so we had to turn the heat on which caused black particles of dust to continually blow from the uncleaned vents, available bedding was stained, clothes in closets & drawers, had to live out of a suitcase for 6 days (personal preference I know but I hate living out of a suitcase!), no continental breakfast as stated, less beds than booked so one son had to sleep in diningroom on an air mattress while the other slept on a dilapidated pull out sofa, so uncomfortable!
Avoid! The savings are not worth it!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Misadvertised - Advertised as a Bed and Breakfast but there was no breakfast. The owner left a bag of oranges, some milk, water, a small baguette and goat cheese in the fridge for us but I do not think that qualifies as breakfast.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Charming but Not Very Functional - For character and location, I give it an A. For functionality, a C-. The only bathroom was located in the master bedroom, so our kids had to traipse through (without waking their baby sister) to use the bathroom. It was advertised as two bedrooms, but the second bed was actually in the dining room. The laundry facilities were out back in a dirty shed. There was no cable TV, only antenna. And when we arrived, we discovered dirty dishes in the dishwasher with no dishwasher soap. The house was beautiful and charming, and only a 30-minute walk from the French Quarter, but it left a lot to be desired in other ways.
- Charles (8/5): Sprink break family weekend trip - Myself, my wife and our 3 sons stayed 3 nights in the cottage behind the main house. Although slightly cramped, it was perfect for our needs as we spent most of the day exploring the city and only returned to the room at night to rest for the next days adventures!! Great historic neighborhood on one of the most charming streets in all of New Orleans, setting out on foot to the French Quarter is very doable as well as enjoyable!! Cottage was very clean, if you're looking for luxury you will be disappointed but if like us you want a nice, clean comfortable place to lay your head down this is the place for you!! We will definitely book again!!
- Loved (10/5): Esplanade Stay in NOLA - The house was beautiful and my family and so enjoyed this beautiful house. The location was conveniently located, and a couple of minutes from the French Quarter. It was close to the New Orleans Museum of Art, which there are so many activities located within the park. The house has a full kitchen, and it was a work of art in itself. The privacy added to the charm of the house and the location, and I would recommend to anyone.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Completely Satisfied - Everything was great, we were completely satisfied and would highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - First time we didn't stay in a traditional hotel room...& we loved it! Spacious & private & close to all the fun of the French quarter/Bourbon street! We've already told all our friends about our stay at Esplanade suites & look forward to visiting again!
- Maria (8/5): - The owner was there the first night of our trip and we never really heard from him again, which was fine. Didn't run into any problems. The room was great, very spacious. However there was no free breakfast available as stated on the website but owner said we were free to whatever was in the fridge.
- Julie (8/5): Great place for couples/friends - This is a great spot if you want an affordable place just outside the Quarter. We were able to walk one mile during daylight hours to the Esplanade and Rampart entry point to the FQ, and we took cabs and Uber home after dark for less that $10. This worked for 3 couples, but had little privacy. Bathroom is in the rear of the house past the bedroom, so foot traffic through the bedroom was common. Great place for close friends to share on a budget. It was clean and the management was very helpful. We would definitely book again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great New Orleans property - Great historic property and hospitable property managers! Walking distance of bourbon street and other sights.
