Guest Reviews
- Alissa (10/5): Our stay was excellent. The room was very clean and we would stay again. - I loved the location and the cleanliness Nothing.. we could hear the music from the bar from our room, however it was fun!
- Patrisia (10/5): -
- Kim (3/5): everything was run down and disappointing. go for the food but dont stay. - Bath leaked, moved to a room with a much smaller bed. Shower didn't work in that one, both shower head and bath faucet continuously ran. Someone smoked in the room we were moved to and it irritated my partners asthma. The bathroom was disgustingly dirty, stained towels and the vent on the ceiling was moldy and browned the ceiling. Coffee maker didn't work and the "free breakfast" was just things like cafeteria cup juice, prepackaged muffins and cereal rasin bran or honey bunches of oats.
- Melissa (10/5): All around the best and cleanest place we’ve stayed hands sown - Great wings! Great drinks! Super clean! Small and vintage Too bad we couldn’t order a Bloody Mary on a Sunday before noon
- edward (10/5): - Close to where we needed to be. Parking
- Sue (3/5): - Woman at check in was very pleasant and helpful when my TV did not work. This is a bar with rooms above. I stayed a night there was live music. Even though I was as far from the bar as possible, I could hear and feel the throbbing of loud music. The place is old and dingy, completely charm free. I like to support local businesses, but this was not a good experience.
- JOANN (2/5): Don't stay over a bar. Do not rent rooms that are directly over a bar. - the hotel itself wasn't bad. The music was so loud we didn't get any sleep and we were not told it was over a bar. We were very disappointed and canceled our second night.
- Anthony (9/5): -
- Kimberly (10/5): - First time actually “staying” at the Winter Inn. The accommodations were great for the money. Staff was very nice and helpful. Couldn’t rave more about them, with exception of one of the bartenders, who was not very welcoming or friendly. Would definitely stay again!
- Antwon (10/5): -
- Michelle (10/5): - This hstoric hotel, with onsite restaurant and bar is a true gem. Excellent staff. Rooms are small but have everything you need. Close to good food and shopping. Greenville has turned out to be great stop on our travels.
- Don (10/5): -
- Donald (8/5): - A quaint place to stay & dinner & service were good.
They should not advertise breakfast if it is not going to be replenished.
- Gail (9/5): A nice, unique stay - Its advertised as "quaint" and it truly was. Beds were comfortable and the room was clean. I may have missed it but all rooms were on the second floor and there is no elevator. That was difficult for us.
- Karen (6/5): - It is a beautiful, small, old hotel. We were so excited to be there. We had a fabulous dinner. Then around 9:00 pm the earthquake shaking music began. Our room, floor, beds, and wall were vibrating. We left and went to another hotel for the night.
- Brenda (8/5): Wonderful. - The location was awesome. The unit is very comfortable. It had everything that we needed. The air-conditioning unit is in the master bedroom, and we aren't used to the noise (ours in in our basement). We understand that there is nothing that the owner/proper manager can do to change this, ear plugs helped. It could use a light over the kitchen sink. The kitchen sink has the hot on the right. It would be nice if the unit came with a parking spot, even if there was a small nightly charge. We used the parking ramp, but they don't have a pass that can be paid for that lets us go in and out throughout the day.
- Karyn (4/5): - The Winter Inn was a disappointment on multiple levels. Music from the bar boomed up into my room until 2 am for 2 nights. "Breakfast" consists of a few items in a refrigerator across the hall from my room. Other guests congregated in front of the door to my room for over an hour in the a.m. No staff was available for checking out. I had to flag a staff person to check in. I was in town for a funeral and left early for another, quieter, cleaner stay elsewhere.
- Antwon (10/5): -
- Kelly (8/5): - The room was cozy, it was quiet and relaxing Even tho staff we came into contact with were very nice, they weren't around at checkout.
- Andrew (9/5): Nostalgic and CLEAN - and a great value - This hotel is "quaint". If you are looking for modern accommodations then you will likely be disappointed. That being said, this place feels like you're stepping back in time. We had a room with a king bed that was comfortable that was CLEAN (which is important for us). No frills. The ground floor is a bar/restaurant that was going pretty strong with loud (but good) music. The building is OLD but nostalgic. The rooms are up winding stairs (no elevators). We actually discussed organizing a friend weekend getaway here where we'd all close down the bar and crash in the rooms upstairs. ;) Hey, we didn't set expectations high as accommodations for the event we had nearby were lacking and the $100 price tag raised questions. The bar music could be heard through the floor of our room (9) which was pretty much over the bar area. This didn't bother us at all but I understand that some people might not like noise at night so I'm listing it here as a potential negative.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - The personnel were just amazing from the beginning until the end! We will be back in also recommended to others, very cool place, historic and beautiful
- Lindsay (10/5): - We went to rock the country then went to Winter Inn. They were very accommodating and friendly
- Linda (10/5): Great time - Had a great time. Food is amazing!!!
- Eric (6/5): - Beds were great. Pillows too. We were in the suite. Two tvs and three beds. All three of us were very happy with the beds. The only issue was the bass from the bar. I should’ve read the reviews more closely. However, with the fan on high and ear plugs, it drowned the noise out enough to get some good rest. I just wish it was a whisky bar instead of a sports bar.
- Sharla (8/5): - We stay here every year for an event that we attend. The rooms are clean, nice and the location is perfect for us. The restaurant has amazing food. The continental breaskfast is what you would expect. The only negative is that it is over a bar and the music can be a little loud, but we are usually so exhausted that it doesn't really affect us!
- Suzana (5/5): Passable -
- Yash (6/5): - Overall the property is pretty old but has a good rustic vibe to it. Only thing is if you are arriving after hours no one will be available at the property. I arrived at the property at about 11:50PM in the night because of flight delays and no one was available at the property to check me in so I had to look for another hotel in the night.
- melaney (4/5): - The best thing about this stay was the bar under the rooms. Room was dirty, we had to be up early and the music was so loud from the bar all night. Communication on how to check in and out isn’t very clear. Also no tv remote for the tv.
- Jeremy (8/5): - It's kinda loud above a bar
- Jamie (8/5): Very good -
- Antwon (9/5): Superb -
- Shaun (4/5): Great place not great if you have trouvle sleeping - I understood it was a hotel above a bar but when music was still playing full blast at 3:30 am made it hard to stay asleep
- Wade (3/5): Poor - The location was convenient to our needs. Restaurant is very good! Bed was uncomfortable, old mattress. The rooms sit above the bar and the music is loud and lasts till 2 am. If you're not going to join the fun downstairs, sleeping will be difficult.
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional - The room was clean and comfy.
- Anna (8/5): - Excellent as always with the exception of the music. Until the bar closed at 1 am you could hear and feel the base vibrations. There also needs to be a sign posted next to no smoking to include Marijuana. It reeked in the hall. Very nice otherwise
- William (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet
- Jeff (10/5): - The staff were amazing. Everybody was super friendly.
- Sandra (8/5): Disappointed! They kept asking us to pay, when we pre-payed! - Historic. Good location. Breakfast included store bought muffins, cereal, only whole milk, peach or strawberry yogurt and coffee. No decaf! Bar downstairs had kareoke until about 1 pm, which was hard to sleep until after they closed. Would not have stayed there knowing that.
- Laurel (3/5): Old and noisy - The music was so loud in the bar that the bed shook. NO possible way to sleep until the bar closed. The place is ancient and had not been renovated. The staff were great, the room was old but clean and the breakfast was good. The bed was old and soft and needed to be replaced.
- Candi (8/5): Very good - We love the history. Some updating has been done since our last stay. Rooms can still use some updating
- Richard (10/5): - It is a very nice and historical building. Lots of history that the staff is ready to tell you about. Nice rooms quaint and cozy. The restaurant and bar right there make it very easy to get a good meal or have a late night drink. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our 2 night stay.
I will give one caveat ... On Friday night there was a DJ and the music was a bit loud until around midnight so if you stay on a night the DJ is in the bar it may be disturbing for a bit. Saturday night just the jukebox was on and wasn't too loud to sleep. Over-all a very nice place
- Steve (4/5): - Was locked in the bathroom for over an hour because the lock set was defective. Had to take the towel bar apart and force my way out of the bathroom. Hotel has no attendant after bar closes at 2am. Would never go back. I did not feel safe the way the hotel was run. One and done for me.
- Denise (9/5): People were very helpful and very nice - It was comfortable! It’s above a bar and the music plays until late
- Hamilton (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (8/5): Very good -
- Henry (4/5): No not go there - Setting was typical old vintage hotel No elevator. No disability/ADA anything. They advertise breakfast however, a bagel that you had to toast yourself and yogurt isn't a breakfast bar. They advertise fresh danish and other stuff that sounds so good. Noise levels are loud -- thin walk and bar noise from down stairs.
- Martha (8/5): - Quaint old place. Wish I could've stayed longer
- Lydia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (4/5): - The room was ok, but I would stay away from this place if you value a decent night’s sleep. I stayed a Friday and Saturday night and each day the bar below was blasting loud music. There was a band on Saturday playing some lousy cover songs and the bass shook my whole room. This went on each night until 2 am. Be warned. A miserable experience.
- Michael (8/5): - Return visit after 3 or 4 years, many upgrades to rooms. Pub and restaurant are still great. Problems this trip with the television (Direct TV) lack of channels, intermittent sound and reception. Hopefully the next upgrade on the list.
- Timothy (4/5): Over prices - Very overpriced for what you get. Disappointed basically no breakfast
- Vicki (10/5): - Everything was A . Pleasant
- Eveblondell (4/5): Over a VERY loud bar - The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was no wall light switch , that switch actually turned the power on to the TV (had no idea). We had to fumble in the dark for the lamp switch. This hotel is above a very loud bar that plays incredibly loud music until 2AM. I’m addition, the hotel entrance/ registration is in the bar , which required that I bring my 11 year old through a very crowded bar to register and access our room with our luggage. There was no wall light switch , that switch actually turned the power on to the TV (had no idea). We had to fumble in the dark for the lamp switch.
- George (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (2/5): Stay clear - Receptionist appeared to not know her job that well. The room was small. Room smelt like mildew. Only can get hot water from tub (not the sink). The restaurant played loud music from jukebox until 0200. The website failed to mention that restaurant and hotel was above one another, which is reason for the loud music which keep guests awake.
- Ken (8/5): - The rooms were nice. Lots of parking and the restaurant was good with friendly staff.
- Caitlin (7/5): Good -
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional - Very mine place, with so much history. Everything was fine
- Carolyn (2/5): Noise from jukebox in bar unbelievable! - The rooms not what I expected for the price, very drape and mattress very uncomfortable. Not at all what I expected! Will not stay again
- Kurt (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kyle (2/5): Don't stay here on weekends unless you like sleeping in an earthquake. - Came for my sister's wedding in town.
Don't stay here on Fridays Saturdays or Sunday nights if you want to actually sleep. DJ blasted music until 3am.. Could feel the bass through the floor and in bed.
When checking in, there was no one at the desk and the employees we stopped to ask where we check in laughed and said "oh sh*t, that's supposed to be me." Would not stay here again.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Alise (9/5): Superb -
- Kaitlin (8/5): - Comfortable bedding, a nice bar and grill downstairs, would stay again if ever in the area.
- Coreen (2/5): - Located over a bar where the music/bass blared until 1:00 am. Tissue paper thin walls.
- Amy (7/5): We will be back. Room was comfortable, quiet and good value - Bed was comfortable and the room clean. While it’s an Inn and furnishings are old, the chair in our room needed cleaning. Overall facility was clean.
- Wendy (10/5): - All the staff that we encountered on this visit were very friendly and helpful. The old building was amazing. I felt like I went back in time when I went up to my room. The wood detail in the bar area was fantastic. I will definitely go back again.
- Betsy (8/5): - Location was good - parking convenient.
Rooms above a restaurant - loud music until
2 am - hard to sleep until then.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Colin (2/5): - Excellent food
- Scott (5/5): Meh! - Attractive. Clean room. Noisy. Band in bar downstairs very loud, very late. TV did not work well
- Andrew (10/5): Amazing! - Loved the historic building, the bar downstairs, and the comfortable beds. Bathroom was small, but it’s a historic hotel so can’t really hold that against it. The music from the bar downstairs is loud as others have said, but that didn’t bother us.
- Tony (10/5): Very cool hotel! - Good location. very well-maintained, and a fun experience being in 102-year-old hotel! Some of the rooms were directly above the bar and would be affected by the noise downstairs. Others were far enough away that it was quiet.
- James E (8/5): - The room was small but very quaint. It seems like you step back in time. Very pleasant experience.
- Kathryn (10/5): - It’s an older hotel, however, it was very clean and that’s important to me. Comfortable bed. The staff was very accommodating to my very late arrival. Adequate breakfast choices for a weekday. I was pleased with my one night stay as I was passing through.
- Jeff (10/5): Awesome stay in Greenville - Love this place, it was close to the event I was attending ans the food was really great!! Wait staff was skilled and knowledgeable! We'll be back! Nothing, everything was superb!
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (8/5): - You walk through the bar to check in, so don't take bags in until you check in. The bed is comfortable and the shower has good water pressure. Great bar and restaurant downstairs, so go and enjoy!
- Lynn (8/5): Relaxing, small town friendliness. - Quaint. Clean. Antique furniture. The bed was very comfortable. Great water pressure. Quiet for being upstairs from a restaurant and bar. Great coffee. Food In restaurant was wonderful.
- Mark (3/5): Short stay - Historic building is nice. Loud bar beneath the rooms.
- Mark (3/5): Not expected. - Historic building. Loud music until 1 am from the bar below.
- Josh (10/5): - Everyone was kind and helpful.
- John (7/5): Loud - Bed was good but hotel was very loud and brown water came out of the tap plus the towels were lame
The breakfast was nice but without a spoon how do you eat the yogurt
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not as Quaint as Expected - The description of the hotel did not tell everything. You have to go through a restaurant and bar with your suitcase and other gear. It was difficult to get through. Also, no one warned there is loud music (live, I suspect) on Friday night - I did finally get to sleep, but I awoke around 1 am and the music was still blaring.
- Margaret (4/5): No Sleep - Confusing check in.. clean property. Food excellent, we say outside. Room above a bar on a Friday night was not good. The base on whatever was going on was full blast. ( No band, video games or something) This was till 2AM! We cancelled our next night
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional - Nice little old building. Was built around 1902 so room is a bit smaller than new hotel room but is fun to stay in vintage American hotel. Not a problem for me but down stairs is an active bar so you can hear the loud music untill 2 am
- Linda (7/5): Nice friendly staff. Good location - Great location. Friendly staff. Noise level too much.
- Steve (8/5): - It was easy to park
- Michael (10/5): - T
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quaint and cozy - Cozy room, a little updating could help, a couple outlets didnt work in the room. But friendly, easy check in. Room was clean, air conditioning worked well.
- Rosemary (3/5): Is a good place for young people wanting to close the bar and stay the night. - The historic building was fabulous. There was no elevator, I do not think it's a good set up for elderly. Very noisy, and inconvient for bringing in luggage. Didn't get much sleep. And no coffee or breakfast
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paula (1/5): I want my money back. - The antiquesp Was given the wrong room. I booked two queen beds. I called to make sure I would get that room. I was also told we would have help getting our luggage upstairs. There was no one to ask for help with the luggage. My friend, who walks with a cane, had to carry our belongings up those steps.
The first employee I came across to help us check in said she didn’t know how to do that.
Later on I placed an order for food , and my meal was completely messed up.
- Carrie (8/5): - Nice atmosphere
- Bounds (10/5): Amazing hidden gem - We loved everything about our stay and have decided this will be our weekend getaway destination from now on! Absolutely nothing
- Cathy (10/5): - Nice area to use the bike trail and walking distance to lots of store and dining. It is upstairs from a great restaurant/bar.
- Rick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kayla (1/5): Bad - The restaurant and bar downstairs is very nice. The hotel part of winter inn is awful I walked in to this old dusty smell. The TV didn't work I had to play with it to get it to connect. the wifi wasn't worth it. The toilet had a hard time flushing. The bath tub wouldn't hold water. I had to fix my shower head.. the rocking chair in the room is broken. The batteries in the ac unit remote are dead. not to mention the neighbor sneaking people in through the emergency exit only door.. 🙄 I won't be returning.
- Hilliker (10/5): Exceptional -
- JD (10/5): - Cool place
