- Terry H. (10/5): - This is a fun old historic lodge, and so you will have to adjust to not every room having a bathroom. Our room, number 9, was large, very clean, and comfortable. The breakfast is very good, and the Tavern, where you eat dinner, is great. The chef, Nicola, is outstanding, serving up numerous draft beers and creating great daily dishes--his Halibut was the best of the trip! Even if you don't stay here, visit Trappers Tavern for dinner!

- Heidi (8/5): - Limited options in this area. We knew when we booked this that it was in a rural area and was very rustic. We had the 3 bedroom cabin which had a kitchen sink, mini fridge and microwave, 1 bathroom with a shower stall. The bedrooms were small- 1 had a wooden door, the other 2 just curtains in the doorways for privacy. No TV but a couple board games provided. Limited access to electrical outlets and we were unable to connect to the wifi. A hot breakfast was provided which was unexpected but very good. There is a bar and separate restaurant on site. The one night the restaurant was tied up with a community event so we drove about 20 min to a nearby town to eat. The next night, the restaurant was closed but food was served in the bar and our meals were good. Overall a decent stay- we enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as visiting with the staff, other guests and local folks.

The inside of the cabins (only saw #2 and room 10) really need to be upgraded to give a modern, welcoming feel.

We ate supper at the restaurant and it was very good. The staff were wonderful they told us a few places to go while we were in Valdez. We stayed in 8 different places on our trip to Alaska and this was our favorite!

- Austin (10/5): - I loved the rustic setting of the lodge and the staff was super nice and caring. I only had one issue with housekeeping cleaning out my entire room and they did not check who was staying for more than one night. This is a great option if you are road tripping.
- Stephen (8/5): We'd stay again - Michelle and her family were wonderful hosts, due to a medical issue they were trying to find a new norm. Nothing bad, just a new chef, and a snarky bartender, that was most likely just stressed. Our room wasn't ready which was frustrating since the reservation was made quite awhile before our trip. We thought about grabbing an adult beverage but lounge and dining room weren't open., no times posted. When they did open the wait was quite significant for service. Nico was just a very unpleasant person. We made friends while waiting for food and drinks. The price was a great value especially with breakfast. Bed was wonderful. Michelle and her daughters rolled out the red caepet. We would stay again, because anyone can have an off day. It is a very cool place lots of history!

- Sarah (4/5): Potential - It was a good location for us. It was the first night of their season and they weren’t totally prepared. The electricity was not on when we came. The restaurant and bar were not stocked so drinks were okay and the meal was less than desireable. Great potential for the property but it was not at its best for our stay.
- Sheila (10/5): - This adorable lodge had very comfortable beds and provided a fan to put in the window so that we could sleep cool, the way we like. The restaurant and the bar are both right next door, easy walking distance. It is private but also right on the way from Wrangell St Elias national Park. The surroundings are beautiful (there is a stunning view from one of the bathrooms) and we had a great time chatting with fellow travelers and local residents alike. They thought of everything, and even provided a hot breakfast with eggs sausage and muffins.

The annoying part was there were no drinking glasses to be found, making it impossible to take medication and difficult to rinse after brushing teeth. That should be among the basics, along with tissues. which weren’t provided either!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Rustic/quaint/funky/old - Historic lodge. My husband and I stayed for three nights in the three bedroom cabin, as it was the only place available at the time. There are not many options in this remote area. Despite its charm, there were some issues. There is peeling paint and exposed walls. The area is very quiet, especially at night. There are heaters in all of the rooms, so we were warm enough. We couldn’t get cell service on our phone, and the Wi-Fi was very unreliable. We couldn’t get the TV to work, so we went to the lobby to ask. We were told that it doesn’t work, but was left in the room for “aesthetics”. Two of the bedrooms have curtains instead of doors. The exposed hot water heater is in the hallway near the bathroom. We thought that there was no hot water in the kitchen sink, until we discovered that the faucets were mislabeled, and reversed. The beds were clean and comfortable, and there were enough blankets. This has gotten many positive reviews. It depends on one’s expectations. It is probably acceptable for people who are used to camping and/or roughing it. We felt that it was not up to the standards of some of the other hotels and lodges where we stayed on our Alaska trip.
- Daniel (8/5): This is a very nice place to stay - The setting, with the river running by so close, is so picturesque. We took many photos. Our dinner at the restaurant was very good. The historic decor provided a lot of charm, so perfect with the setting. The historic bed frame on the double bed is great for the decor. However, it does not support the mattress very well. Perhaps you could build a platform under it for more support. Keep the charm, but also provide for more comfortable sleeping. Also, your big sign out front is hard to read, it could use repainting.

Our room had two doors that were not secure. The entire place was trashy. We checked out a day early, even if we loose the 2nd nights expense, I felt it better to leave.

The old cabin 2 and 3 were really not equipped for modern usage. Missing working furniture, lamp, and such. Doors did not open or close fully. Cabin 5 was new and still a work in progress. Needs a key to lock personal belongings. Considering new owners hoping for more upgrades to the lodging!

- Leonghin (9/5): A quiet and peaceful stay. - A peaceful quiet location near the river. The portable heaters in the bedrooms are not working. The scramble eggs for breakfast by the chef were not properly cooked.
- Nadina (10/5): Great lodge run by a very friendly family, highly recommend. - We stayed in the fishing cabin right next to the river, the scenery was breathtaking. We had several interactions with family who owns and runs the lodge, they were all very friendly and super accommodating. Wayne, Michelle and the family are great hosts. Wayne even gave us good tips for fishing in the area and Michelle came to tell us that there was a bear on the hill across the river from our cabin. It was so cool. We also enjoyed a meal at the historic restaurant on site, The Carriage House. We highly recommend this lodge and hope to return in the future. The only amenity I missed was a blow dryer.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Rustic property - This is a rustic property. The owners are very nice and helpful. It’s nice to have a restaurant on site, but it’s not inexpensive. The cabin itself is old and very tired, but the bathroom was remodeled which was good. It was nice to be right on the river

- Dawn (8/5): Friendly folks - Friendly small town with a historic roadhouse. Prices are very high in Alaska, so this was a cheaper option. The shared bathroom is challenging in the morning. However the bar next door is a great way to mix with fellow travellers and locals.

- Dennis (6/5): - Reserved and rented a 3 bedroom cabin. 2 bedrooms had curtains instead of a door in the doorway...no big deal, just info. However, the 1 bedroom with an actual door smelled terrible (guessing it was cat urine based on a small doorway cut into the door). Hosts were obviously aware as there were about 8 air fresheners under the bed. Mattresses were all Very soft. People were nice, but when asked, did not have menus for either the bar or restaurant (2 separate buildings) available in paper or on-line to review until you sat down and felt committed. Seemed to be a significant difference in price between a meal at the bar versus a similar item in the restaurant. The food was good and plentiful. Overall, the cabin better than tent camping in the rain like we had done the previous couple of nights, with plenty of heat and hot water. (note: connections for hot and cold water in "kitchen" sink were reversed so left handle was for cold and right was for hot, but at least they worked once we broke the code). The biggest issue was the smell in the bedroom.
- Rick (9/5): A lodge (Roadhouse) worth experiencing - Everything. These folks were really nice. This place is rustic and so much character. There is the lodge, a separate restaurant, and separate bar. This place is a diamond in the rough. Great place to stay...and chat with the owners if you like. Nothing. I guess maybe we couldn't find a hair dryer. No big deal. They did say that rumors from way back when was that our room might be haunted.....nope. still got a good night's sleep.

There was a little confusion with booking upon arrival due to something eith the 3rd party booking site, but they were really nice and helpful and got it sorted for us. It was just what we needed for a quick overnight rest along our way.
- Joseph (8/5): A place to rest your head - A place to rest your head. It is very much a cabin. Family stayed 1 night. Not a lot to choose from out in bush of Alaska. It was good could use some upgrades. Shower and toilet room looked new with on demand water heater. Thanks for the stay
- Luiz José (8/5): - Very nice and spacious cabin, with private bathroom, great breakfast options served in a typical restaurant, very attentive and kind staff. The downside was the size of the bathroom, which was very small, but there was plenty of heated water at a good temperature.

- Harish (2/5): - We could not get a room even though we booked. We paid 200 dollars. We arrived late, past midnight. There was no proper communication. We called and waited till 6:30am, ended up sleeping in the car the whole night. Finally, drove to Valdez. Wish there was better communication especially when they took the money. We couldn’t even get inside the hotel and just parked outside hoping someone would come and let us in. We called couple of times and left voicemail but no response. They didn’t even get back.
- Katherine (8/5): - It is a great piece of history. They are adding two new cabins. We stayed in the three bedroom cabin. This is a rustic type of lodging. It not 5th wheel lodging but it better than tent camping. The new owners are trying their hardest. We were there about a week before “summer season”. Food was available but limited. Playground across the street. Michelle and Wayne are very kind and very hard workers! We wish them well!!
- Gail (7/5): Restaurant advertised as open online. Was closed so we ate at the bar. Not much selection. - Breakfast was adequate. Nothing special. Bathroom sink was filled with toothpaste from former guests.

- Kenneth (4/5): - The lodge was like a old farm house with a lot of bedrooms which is where we placed We did not have any heat control in our room no TV and all the rooms shared 2 bathrooms. Someone using the bathroom the next morning left such a awful odor people were gagging. No spray that we could find. The showers did not look all that appealing after other people used them.The bar has very limited drink choices and the restaurant had very limited choices. A hotel would have been a better choice.

- Deb (10/5): - This a historic Roadhouse, reminiscent of my grandparents farmhouse. The new owners are bringing back the charm and history. Beautifully set on the river. Next door is their own bar and restaurant. Met some fabulous vacationers and swapped stories.

- Evan (10/5): Exceptional - We rented one hotel room and one cabin and felt like we could experience rustic Alaska. The hotel staff is friendly and welcoming, and the rooms are warm and cozy. Be prepared for a narrow hallway in the hotel; the floors slope slightly from the shifting permafrost. There are nine rooms in the hotel with two shared bathrooms. We had a three-bedroom cabin. From the outside, it looks small, but the inside is surprisingly accommodating. Electic heaters in the back bedrooms support the Toyo stove in the living room, making the cabin toasty warm even on chilly fall days.
- pamela (10/5): - Just remember when you stay here you are going back in time. Everyone are extremely nice. Bathrooms are clean. Just need to share them. Not use to that but it worked. Chris the bartender was very nice. Good drinks and good food. Just remember these are very old buildings.
