Guest Reviews
- Kate (10/5): I’ve been staying on SI for 45 years and this place is the best by far. - The house is old and has been restored. I appreciate that the owners kept and reused the original wood trim. The room is beautifully decorated and appointed. The location is great; I could walk to most of what I wanted to do. Absolutely nothing. I wouldn’t change a thing.

- Maureen (10/5): - This was my husband and my first time visiting Shelter Island and I feel lucky that my stay was at the House of ChaseCreek. Bill was excellent in helping us navigate our stay on the Island which made for an enjoyable experience. The house was charming , very clean , and had easy access to the town restaurant s, and Ferry. Highly recommend !
- garrett (10/5): Chase Creek - Such a wonderful place atmosphere and environment close to all. Peaceful and relaxing
- Frank (10/5): - Bill, our host was always available, and happy to give us helpful advice about restaurants and things to do in the area. A really nice guy.The house is in a picture card location on a beautiful creek, yet within a 5 minute scenic walk into the village, or to the waterfront town. Will certainly be back.
- Marshella (10/5): - Great stay. The host is amzing and very helpful. The house is peaceful and safe!
- Theresa (10/5): - The House on Chase Creek is beautiful. It's an old house but everything is updated, clean and comfortable.
- Vincent (10/5): Peaceful slice of heaven - It was a peaceful and serene as it gets what a nice overnight stay we will have to come back again to explore more sometime soon.
- Diane (8/5): - Beautiful setting and big rooms close to ferry and town center.
- Richard (10/5): - Everything you need for a stay on the island
- Ira (10/5): - The view of the creek is beautiful. Time stops.

- Carolina (10/5): - Amazing location. Lovely lake. Serene and Tranquil experience.
- Louis (8/5): - 543y
- Noriyuki (10/5): - The owner is very friendly and helpful. He even upgraded the room without additional fee. The rooms are so clean and organized with nice thick towels and amenities. Free coffee and tea were available with a water server, microwave, and a little sink to wash dishes. The area is so quiet and peaceful although some good restaurants and ferry port are in walking distance. Highly recommended.
- Todd (2/5): - Even for Labor Day weekend, this was way over-priced at a total of $467 per night -- a small room with hardly space for the bed, and none of the ordinary amenities like TV and Wi-Fi (apparently in all four rooms) and breakfast consisting of DIY coffee. Making contact with the owner to check in was mostly for his convenience since we had to agree ahead of time to be there when he was. Returning after our first day we found the room had not been made up and were told he had "forgotten" to tell us we needed to request it since it had been made optional with (long past) Covid. Not an experience we wish to repeat.
- William (10/5): - Great experience, we will be back
- Jaclyn (10/5): - Lovely place. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Thw oerfect olace to get away for a day or two.

- ROBERT (10/5): - Beautifully maintained B B in idyllic setting. Bill is a gracious host.
- Stephen (10/5): - The house is well kept. Our host, Bill Cummings was friendly and helpful. The location is a nice respite from the crowded urban areas.
- Herma (10/5): - Beautiful surroundings and very friendly host. Easy access to places to eat.
- Nof (10/5): - Great place.
- Damon (10/5): - Beautiful view and excellent location. A short walk to the ferry to Greenport and a short drive to preserves. Owner more than accommodating. I will visit again.
- eva (10/5): - Beautful and quaint! And a gorgeous location
- ed (8/5): Nice place - Covenient to island locations, great location, quiet
- Sharon (6/5): House at Chase Creek - We thought the setting was nice. However I believe we could have found another property with more amenities for the same price. We recognize that finding a place to stay on Shelter Island is pricey. We had the most problem with communication & the lack of interest in providing any hospitality.
- Richard (10/5): - Bill the host is friendly and helpful, though no one was around when we arrived and it was 10 minutes before he returned my call. The house overlooks the creek in a peaceful, picturesque neighborhood. Bicycles are available for free outside. Room #3 was cozy and had a spacious shower stall.
- Leslye (10/5): - We loved staying at Bill's place, which must be the prettiest house one the island.
He recommended the hammock as one of Shelter Island's best features, and he wasn't wrong. We hope you go back someday soon!
- Maureen (10/5): - MY HUSBAND AND I DID A SHORT GETAWAY AND HAD A LOVELY EXPERIENCE AT CHASE CREEK
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome house with a view - Great place - Bill is a fantastic host.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - First, the things we really liked: There is a beautiful view of the creek in the back and we spent a few hours just hanging out there. The house itself is quaint and very quiet, We couldn't hear anyone in other rooms at all (there was no TV in our room, I don't know about the others) and it's on a very quiet street. We were in room 3, which was small, but I could see that room 1 was large. The room was nice with just a few cosmetic flaws that didn't bother me, a few cracks in the ceiling and slightly peeling wallpaper in the bathroom. A few things in the room need to be repaired or replaced though. There's a small step on the floor before you get to the bathroom. Bill warned us to be careful of it, but I think a carpenter could turn that into a slope so no one would trip. I'm surprised on one has yet. The appliances are old. Bill had to unclog the toilet for us our first night there, so we had to leave the room in our pajamas and sit downstairs, so the plumbing could probably be better. The ceiling fan light wobbles when you pull the light and fan chains. I don't think it would fall down but that could use an upgrade. A full length mirror and a mini fridge would be great additions too. I would also suggest giving the guests flashlights, as the walk from the area where the restaurants are to the hotel is pitch dark. All in all, a nice, quiet place to stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a beautiful, quiet space to escape to. Just wished we would have stayed longer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Removed from the hustle of town but close enough to walk and bike to... We stayed one day but it was enough to know that we are looking forward to coming back... 👍👍👍👍👍
- Reed (10/5): a perfect moment of calm - Lovely spot. Perfect for the bit of peace and calm we needed after such a chaotic year.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location is so serene and beautiful! The house is located across the street from a lake/creek. Chairs and a hammock are provided to the guests.
The house is in the beautiful historic section of Shelter Island. The house is charming but needs some work. The floor in our room was so uneven that we always felt we were walking lopsided. The furniture is old , including the mattress and pillows. Not comfortable at all! Also no television in the rooms! There is free wifi.
There is a side room on the main floor with coffee and tea and some games to play. The owner was kind.
Overall, our stay in Shelter Island was great because the whole island is beautiful! Next time though I will look for more modern accommodations.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was quiet and has a good view ... since we were the only one there ... some strong pressure on us to switch to a big room ...
- Katherine (10/5): House on Chase - Wonderful. Everything we needed. Can’t wait to go back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic Night Stay - Amazing!
- Camilla (10/5): - We had such a lovely time at the House on Chase Creek! Bill was so attentive during our stay and the house was so peaceful and lovely.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean room and bathoom. More dated than expected. No contential breakfast , we had our own prepared anyway no big deal. Bill was a very nice man. The creek is beautiful, there were two chairs and a hammock for our use. It was very quiet and just what we needed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Gorgeous location. Super quiet. Big room suitable for longer stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful quiet small lodge in a quaint peaceful setting,
- Katherine (10/5): Quiet, Walkable, Comfortable, and Romantic! - We came from NYC and if we ever go again we'll take the train, not the car. The LIRR goes right to Greenport, which is a walkable town, and you can then take the ferry to Shelter Island and walk to Chase Creek B&B within 10 minutes. The creek is beautiful and the house was exceptionally quiet. We used the window A/C to create some white noise. The bed was amazing and we got some of the best sleep we've had in a while. The check-in process was easy because he left the room unlocked for us with the key inside. My favorite part was hanging out under the full moon by the river right in front of the B&B. Would definitely stay again if in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): fantastic! - fantastic place!
easy and flexible check in with a warm welcome
beautiful rooms and quaint home
very clean and comfortable
highly highly recommended!
- Frank (10/5): Great Stay -
Very nice place to stay. The owner Bill is very welcoming and more than Happy to fill you in on the area and the best places to go. Very clean and quiet place, upgraded us at no additional cost. Highly recommend!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - great experience. we weren't there long, but we enjoyed the home, the lake, and the island.
- Chandler (10/5): - We went last weekend on a whim.…..it turned out to be one of my best getaway's ever! The location is spectacular right in the heart of Shelter Island and the accommodations were the perfect bed and breakfast. It is not modern but very clean and had a lot of character. We had a king room on the second floor, it was very nicely furnished. My wife loved the large bathroom and the AC worked great. BTW all the great reviews you see on trip advisor about Bill are all accurate....a great guy and he couldn't have been more accommodating. Great place to stay if you are looking for a quick getaway.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice, quiet old house with pleasant porch and view of water
- Dale (8/5): - Peaceful quite and relaxing
No change of towels
Improvement in breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent accommodations in a magnificent setting. - This is a great old house, with a wonderful host. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a king bed and water view. It's clean and attractive, and the atmosphere is inviting. The common areas include an glass-enclosed porch with 24/7 hot beverages and a frig in which we kept some wine; and a font porch overlooking the water. The houses faces the small bay called Chase Creek, and there are chairs and a hammock set up under the trees at the water's edge. Walk to the small town and harbor, as well as the North Ferry. We look for peace and quiet, and this is the quietest place we've ever visited. Essentially no cars on this small side street, and no noises at all. The house was silent despite being full, and we might have slept until noon if the birds didn't wake us. We drove around a bit and saw other B&Bs, but none in such a magnificent setting. Host Bill steered us to a first class dinner at the Flying Goat, and he recommended morning coffee on the docks behind a quaint market. He's practically a native on the island and knows his stuff. His loving restoration of this old house is documented in a photo album in the main foyer. Great choice in any season.
- Kerrie (10/5): Feeling refreshed! - It was the perfect Quiet get away. They provided breakfast and good conversation. Went bike riding to the beach and hiking in preserve.
- lola (10/5): Really nice B&B - We had a great time there. The place is spotless and the owner is very welcoming. He helped us by taking the time to tell us what to do and where to go. It was really appreciated since it was our first time in Shelter Island.
The B&B is well located. The place is quiet with wonderful views. The room was really confortable and cosy. We loved it. Thanks!
- Carey (10/5): A very relaxing B&B - A very relaxing B&B near the shops on the northern part of Shelter Island. I stayed 2 nights and found it almost too. Would stay again. The owner, Bill was super nice and gave me his recommendations and a map on there to bike ride, since I brought my road bike, and places to eat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Highly recommended - Bill is just lovely. Our stay was short & very comfortable. Can’t wait to spend a longer time here.
- michael (10/5): Very friendly spot! - The owner was very friendly and attentive. But not oppressive like a B&B is sometimes. Breakfast was simple but very good as well. Ill be back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great - The house is extraordinarily cute and comfortable. The location is also ideal as it is a very short walk to Dering Harbor, but still in a very quiet and secluded location. Bill is a wonderfully helpful and courteous host.
