Guest Reviews
- Sachi (10/5): Fantastic stay - wish we were there longer! - Amazing stay, it is a family run place, we met the owners brother and son - they were extremely cordial and welcoming, invited us to a drink and told us some of the areas history, and ensured everything was perfect for our stay. Made to order breakfast was the best from our entire Costa Rica trip. Honestly the pictures do not do the place justice - the inside of the room was very spacious and elegant and sparkly clean; and the grounds were lush and green. There were so many little well thought out things - e.g. motion sensor lights and ramps where we didn't need to carry our suitcases upstairs!
- Holden (8/5): - Nice place to stay. The loft room did not have hot water.
- Mariano (10/5): - Really nice treat by owners.
- Himabindu (10/5): - It was a good stay. They provided transportation to cloud forest and Manuel Antonio. Clean property with basics. Lots of eating places and coffee stores walkable.
- Gabriel (10/5): - The staff was very welcoming and friendly!
- Harry C (8/5): - It was a one night stay.
- Meredith (8/5): - Comfortable large room. The only downside was the shower water was not hot. Family that owns the hotel was very nice and helpful. Town was less than 15 minutes walking but very steep climb back to the lodge.
- Lisa (10/5): - Miguel made Historias Lodge a wonderful place to stay.
I was travelling on my own. I wanted a private room but not pay too much as I would be spending a lot of time site seeing. So, I chose Historias Lodge.
My room didn’t have a balcony or area to sit outside. I envied the others but this is to necessary. The basic and very clean room served the purpose quite well.
Miguel greeted me with a friendly smile and Hola. He was so lovely and made sure I had everything I needed. He arranged tours for me, but didn’t pressure me to do anything I didn’t want to. He was such a spark of sunshine. He even arranged for his nephew to drive me to the bank.
The Lodge was close to the local bus stop to get to the Cloud Forest and there was a bakery and restaurants around the corner.
I would recommend it for a solo traveller like me.
- Alan (10/5): - Staff very friendly and the room and area on the property are very beautiful.
- Debby (10/5): Great place to stay! Totally recommend it! - The place was very clean and bug free which is the best. Check in and out was super smooth and the staff was amazing and super helpful and understanding.
- Lorenzo (10/5): Great hotel - Nice hotel very close to the centre of Santa Elena. The room was spacious, clean and there is a very green garden. Friendly owner.
- Huyen (8/5): - The staff was nice and the location was good but the wall is thin so we could hear every thing from the next room. No fan or AC so it was quite hot during the day.
- Kevin (10/5): - Very friendly staff, clean rooms, and close to everything.
- Molly (10/5): Great stay! - We had a great stay at Historias Lodge. We loved the feel of the accommodation. Miguel was very friendly and helpful and the room was spacious and comfortable.
- Joseph (10/5): - I had a very pleasant 3-day stay at the Historias Lodge. I was able to walk anywhere I needed to go. Nice restaurants, cafes, and a supermarket minutes away. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. I would absolutely stay here again.
- Krystin (10/5): Peaceful Stay! - Historias was the best choice I could've ever hoped for on a solo trip and on a budget. It was a great place to work in the mornings and then later walk through the town and explore. Miguel and Luis were the best hosts I could've asked for as well! They were friendly, helpful, and made sure that I felt right at home. Highly recommend if you want something peaceful!
- Donna (10/5): Lovely forest lodge - Lodge type hotel. Miguel the owner/manager is very friendly and helpful…arranged my visit to the cloud forest, arranged my transport to LaFortuna, he made everything easy. Breakfast is fine. Room & bed comfortable. Good water pressure. Good location.
- Fredrik (10/5): - Fantastic host with a hotel located central in monteverde. We could walk to anything. The owner was very helpful finding activities. Would recommend to anyone.
- Lily (10/5): - Location is up the hill from the main town which makes it quieter, though still only ~10 min walk away. Great restaurants right nearby, actually better than the ones in the main town too. The room was great, very clean, and’s loved the chairs out in the deck outside the room. The staff was super friendly and VERY helpful in making reservations for us for restaurants and tours. Highly recommend!
- Philippe (10/5): - Super friendly owners and great property conveniently located in central location relative to most of Monteverde’s natural sights. Would recommend.
- Martin (10/5): - The hotel has a charm to it that is quite unique! It is an older wooden house, with wooden floors and wood on the walls. Outside there are plants that grow up the balcony, which gives a naturally beautiful exterior. The bed is standard and a little hard. The staff is super friendly and very helpful
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful artwork all over
- dimitri (8/5): Not Bad - Amazing host. Very helpful and hospitable. Asked me many times if I needed anything. I would definitely come back. Would be nice if less bugs in the room but it’s Costa Rica . Of you can’t tolerate insects , maybe you chose a different destination. No mosquitos which is great. Location was easy to find. The property is small but you don’t need more . You are there to spend more time outside the room, not inside. Overall, I had a good time there
- Todd (10/5): - The staff was great. They were very helpful. We booked all our tours at the hotel.
- Heather (10/5): - Large, comfortable suite. Great restaurant nearby, within easy walking distance. Only stayed one night but you could see how Monteverde is a tourist attraction. Lots of activities. Well worth a visit and the views are gorgeous...amazing sunset!
- Isabelle (8/5): Bon rapport qualité prix - Lodge sympathique, proche du village, un peu vieillot mais bien entretenu. L’accueil est très chaleureux et le déjeuner copieux.
Très bien pour un court séjour.
- JZ (10/5): - That three-story hotel room is fantastic. Very nice new wood-made hotel. Clean and pretty.
- Rob (10/5): A very comfortable stay - We had a very comfortable one night stay in a triple room. The reception staff was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and making a phone call to fine tune our tour time for the next morning. We were in a separate building, perhaps an annex, and our 2nd floor room was large. The wifi was weak in our room. The room was quiet, the beds were comfortable, the shower was good, and the room was clean. Breakfast the next morning was a bit late, but was very good. We were able to park our car right in the small parking lot right in front of the reception.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A restful stay at Historias Lodge - One word, charm! One can find quite a few high end lodgings that for the most part are not as successful as Historias Lodge in conveying something, anything. Historias from Lucho the one eyed Chihuahua who is a staple either greeting guests to begging for food at the breakfast area conveys a families vision of how they see hospitality. I had course to take a tour, and overheard a Spanish couple remark "oh what a charming place" something most people remark when they first cast gaze on Historias. It is a rambling two story structure larger than it appears at first glance. What is most eye catching is the beautiful passion fruit like vine that covers the entire second store in a type of arbor. The first level is textured concrete while the second floor is wood. The room was ample with two sitting chairs, a minifridge, cable TV, Wifi, a bathroom with hot water. And a marvelous plate glass window overlooking the shrubbery. The Location is roughly halfway from town center and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Even though it is near quite a few businesses i.e. supermarket, bakery, restaurants it is very quiet. I had my most restful stay in Costa Rica at Historias. It does not have air conditioning but does have a fan. Luckily the year round cool temperatures keep it from being oppressively hot. The included breakfast of a plate of cut fruit, eggs, toast, freshly squeezed orange juice, toast, coffee and or tea was something to look forward to in the mornings.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Would stay there again - Close to many things. Very quiet at night.
Staff is very friendly. Very spacious room.
- Shanel (10/5): - Wonderful stay! The host, Luis, is incredibly warm and accommodating. He helped us book activities while we were in Monteverde, and gave us recommendations on restaurants to try. The property is small but beautiful; we were surrounded by greenery, giving the lodge a little bit of a treehouse feel. I'd definitely recommend staying here!
- Jerome (10/5): Great hotel, we loved it - Excellent hotel. Location was great. It's simple but very clean and quiet. Our room was very spacious. We were a little afraid that there was no AC, but it turned out to be totally fine as it's not too hot in Santa Elena at night. The staff was very nice. Reasonable rates. All in all a very solid choice for a couple of days to explore the region. We would definitely stay there again.
- philippe (8/5): Correct mais sans plus - Bien situé pour visiter monteverde
- Rupesh Kumar (10/5): Awesome place, family like staff - So fortunate to pick this place to stay. Great customer service, family like staff, very nice breakfast. Perfect place to stay. The person at reception (Sorry, didn't get your name) helped us a lot. He has arranged a guide for us to visit Monteverde reserve. He has suggested Torilla's restaurant, which is 5 minutes walk, which has great food at less cost. Sandra has helped us a lot. Chef has prepared tasty breakfast. Will stay again, if we get a chance. Met a super friendly Canadian family with 3 kids. We felt we have met with another soulmate friends for life.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff was very kind, friendly and willing to help. Our room was big and comfy.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We made our reservation and I gave exoedia my credit card number to hold the room. It said to pay at the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel they would not take our credit card for payment, they wanted cash. We do not travel with a lot of cash and no where on the web site did I see that they would not take a credit card. I told them I had no cash on me and for them to cancel they reservation. They said they could not do that at their end, the hotel, for me to call you to cancel the room. IIt was late at night and I had no telephone to call you in the states and I tried to email you but that did not work. I do not want you to pay this hotel anything from my credit card. I am still traveling and I will call Expedia about this situation when I get to a telephone that will call to the states
- Anne (10/5): Hyggeligt hotel - Vi havde et rigtig godt ophold på dette hyggelige hotel. Personalet var meget imødekommende og informerende, værelserne rummelige og rene og morgenmaden var god. Kan absolut anbefale hotellet
- Stephanie (8/5): - The room was great and was very nicely decorated. The room was cold with no heater, but we managed. The paintings on the exterior were gorgeous!
- Lapointe (8/5): Everything but the towels - Great location and nice room. Fantastic breakfast.
Towels could use updating--they were more grayish than the original white. It seems to be a common problem in this area. I would recommend replacing the towels with gray ones to avoid this problem. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- Matthew (8/5): Couple of nights at historias lodge - Our stay at Historias Lodge was great! Our host was very warm with tons of helpful hints on what to do in the local area. The room was comfy, however we were in be furtherest room from office/main hotel area so the wifi signal was quite weak.
Breakfast was a winner with a choice of eggs and some of the local Gallo pinto (beans and rice) or pancakes.
If staying be sure to take cash as there is no card machine available
Bon rapport qualité-prix.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location - Could here the wind all night.
Breakfast was not appealing.
- canaduan trall (10/5): Wonderful lodge - We spent 2 nights at the Historias lodge. Our room booked for 3 had 4 beds! The room was large with a conversation table and chairs inside and chairs on our outer deck. The cable tv had many English channels. Thais was wonderful with suggestions for activities and restaurants nearby. I would give this lodge this highest rating!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good hotel for families. - The hotel owner Luis was extremely knowledgeable and helpful planning excursions for us. The breakfast was delicious and made fresh to order each morning. The room was very comfortable for my family of 5 with 1 double bed and 3 single beds for each of my kids. The hotel was conveniently located near good restaurants.
