Guest Reviews
- IOANNIS (10/5): - Very helpful staff.Melani thank you so much for everything.
We had a great accommodation.
- Mario (10/5): Gracias Palomino!!!
- EJS (4/5): - Not very clean, cold coffee,,no shampoo, no soap, no towels.no lunch box on day of excursions. Huge potholes in parking. Food in restaurant expensive and not great. Management not very helpful with questions regarding car insurance
- Jesse (8/5): - Weather was cloudy. So the hot water tank had no hot water. Remember it’s not the USA, they don’t have hot water heaters. They have have black tanks on the roof.
The pool was also cold.
The staff are logistical wizards and super friendly. They make some mean pancakes and eggs for breakfast.
- Gustavo (8/5): Excelente - La atención del personal sumamente profesional. Se siente uno querido.
- William Oswaldo (8/5): bonito hotel - Hotel, Limpio y seguro
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Didnt spend much time on property but the times i did staff was VERY friendly and attentive which means alot when your in a new unfamiliar place. Would definitly
- Renee (10/5): A unique experience not to miss. - Overall we would come back to stay again. There is room for improvement and facility freshening. Our room was mostly comfortable and the air conditioning cold. The included breakfast was good and plentiful. Medelin the manager is outstanding, she is so helpful and eager to please. We would come back just because of her positive attitude. Keep in mind you are staying at a horse ranch. With horse smells and noises outside. None of this bothered us nor did it affect us inside. This was a unique experience that we enjoyed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had most memorable time staying in this hotel. The staff did everything to make our stay comfortable, we had very personal treatment. Ranch hotel is a beautiful Spanish-style modern building surrounded by nature with open terraces, hammocks to relax, stalls with horses and lake view. It has a pool but we swim instead every day in pristine waters of the lake with the access right cross the street. Unfortunately I don't speak Spanish, but manager Medelllin is bilingual and help us to arrange our time, helping with tours and providing info about area, restaurants etc. She addressed all our needs and even provided as with sandwiches and snacks when we had to wake up at 3 a.m to go to Tikal for sun-rising tour. The room is in colonial style, big, clean, and air-conditioned. The horses on the ranch are beautiful and we had 3 hours horse riding tour, my first time on horse, but it is unforgettable experience, I felt very comfortable and safe. The view of the lake from the top was fantastic. El Remate is a small village but the area is very accessible: lake, bird watching, restaurants, everything in walking distance. Highly recommend and hope to be back soon.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Super cool hotel - One if the coolest hotels we have ever stayed. Love that the room accommodated a family of 5. Having breakfast included was so nice . Clean pool and beautiful lake were what put this place over the top. Only bad thing I can say was that the beds were hard.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was excellent, recomended 100%
I loved the horses, my experience was excellent
I loved that place.
if I come back Im gonna stay there again.
The staff was friendly with us
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were amazing. Loved waking up to the sound of horses. The hotel is situated in front of a beautiful lake that you can swim in. 20 to 30 minutes from Tikal makes it a great location to stay while visiting Tikal. I would stay here again
- Mario (10/5): Excelente - Muy amable el personal
- RebeccaM (8/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Palomino Ranch hotel. The best part was the hosts and staff. The hotel is safe, secure, clean, and quiet. We enjoyed a horse back ride, which I would highly recommend. The lake is clean and beautiful, we swam in it daily. The pool is also clean and enjoyable. A couple recommendations would be a lamp on the nightstand (only light in the room is a bright chandelier) and a wifi extended to reach the guest rooms (though this may not be an issue for most people, we need wifi to work even while on vacation, sadly). I HIGHLY recommend this hotel!
- Oliver (10/5): - Great staff, food, and room comfort as well as cleanliness! We had a great time!
- Bryce (8/5): Palomino - Great place. Staff were great. Only problem mosquitos.
- An'e (10/5): Cute rustic place. - Cute, rustic place, real horses on property, great pool and their own pier to Lake Peten Itza, and only 30 minutes to Tikal, they can recommend a guide who speaks English or Spanish for the tour of Tikal, nice guy too!
The restaurant does a good job with breakfast and dinner (we just did those two meals) The pool area is nice, do bring repellant since this is close to the preserve and bugs are thick outside and sometimes can come in when doors or windows are open.
The place was quite clean and cleverly furnished. Would definitely recommend.
- Catherine (10/5): Peaceful Palomino - When I think back on my trip to Guatemala, one of the pictures that comes to mind are the beautiful flowers sweeping across the walkway at the Palomino Ranch Hotel. The setting here was lovely and serene. The kindness and helpfulness of the proprietor and his staff was exceptional. The food was delicious and we enjoyed huevos rancheros breakfast on the house. The pool was lovely and was open early and stayed open late into the evening with beautiful foliage all around. With its Western theme including stables, I took advantage of a horseback ride through the countryside with an outstanding kindhearted guide who pointed out the wildlife and assisted me with saddling on and off. The proprietor arranged my tour to Tikal which is very close to the hotel. I highly recommend staying at this hotel on a quiet part of the lake and if I am ever able to visit the Flores area again, I will definitely stay at the Palomino Ranch Hotel.
- Dennis (10/5): Great hospitality - We had a great time at Palomino. Palomino was very hospital to us, it is also a beautiful hotel with clean rooms and good food. It's a great hotel for visiting Tikal or surrounded lakes. There is a shuttlebus for the hotels in El Remate which will take 30 minutes to get to Tikal.
The staff was spanish and as we speak no spanish we had a lot of contact with the owner of the hotel which speaks english. He was very helpfull and was constantly asking us if we needed help and trying to make our stay perfect. For example; we were playing volleyball in the pool, a day later the staff build a volleybalfield in the garden for us to play.
Our last evening we were invited to see a horseshow. Even as a non-horselover it was nice to see. And afterwards the owner got us some beers and we had a nice talk.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very nice place just a little far from town. - Taxi ride was $150 Q almost 50 min from airport
The owner was nice enough to give us a ride back to town
- Haviva (10/5): 100% - excelente super recomendado
- Jana (10/5): Great hotel very close to Tikal - Great western themed hotel, closest location to Tikal. Loved our stay. Watched 3 foals play every morning while we ate breakfast. Staff was excellent. Made us feel like family. Went an enjoyable horse ride. No horse smells to ruin the air. Loved hearing the birds and watching humming birds fly from flower to flower. Walkway to lake is being constructed now. Cheap beer, good food and no bar noise to keep you away. Great place for a weekend or a week!
- amy (10/5): A Jungle Gem!!!! - you cannot go wrong staying here! WOW!!
- Gary (10/5): Rustic Functional Ranch - beautiful!!!!!! - This is the perfect place to spend a few days enjoying Lago Peten Itza. I recommend a ride in the woods along the lake from this functioning ranch. Great launching point for a day at Tikal. Definitely a jewel of a property in the little town of El Remate Guatemala.
- Nate (10/5): A great ranch! - Excellent! Friendly, accommodating staff. Free breakfast, horse rides, nice room, and quiet. Great place to go if you love horses and to expierence local culture.
- Sylvia (8/5): Cool comfort on the lakeside, handy for Tikal. - The staff were extremely pleasant. No English spoken. The room was fairly large and very clean but with nowhere to hang clothes or to hang towels in the bathroom. Air conditioning was efficient and quiet. Limited choice at breakfast but cooked to order and very tasty. The pool was in quite poor condition.
- Yasmin (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay here. The place is charming and unique, a real ranch with beautiful horses and American retro paraphernalia and detail everywhere. It's obvious a lot of time and love has gone into creating this place. The rooms were large, comfortable, well-decorated in keeping with the cowboy theme and quiet at night. Breakfast was good. Although they did not speak much English, the staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful with all our requests and nothing was too much trouble - our gratitude for their service and smiles! We briefly met the owner who was also very helpful and spoke impeccable English. It was interesting to watch the stable guys work with the horses and we would have loved to have taken up the Ranch's offer of a free horse ride there, if we had the time. One downside is that the internet signal did not reach our room so we had to work at the restaurant/terrace area but the signal was fine there. El Remate was a great choice for us, peaceful and relaxed after weeks on the road, next to a beautiful and clean lake. There's a Biosphere nature reserve and several restaurants within walking distance and its nearer Tikal than Flores, both of which you can get cheap collectivos to. The area is quiet at night so not for party animals! We'd recommend this place to anyone who loves horses, curios and antiques and prefers a more peaceful location to relax in.
- Brian (10/5): We loved our stay! - This was a really cool place with great service and great food. Rooms and property were comfortable and well kept. My favorite part was the atmosphere...really fun. Also, El Remate is a neat little town and the lake is gorgeous! Perfect launching point for exploring the amazing Mayan ruins at Tikal. Much closer and I'm guessing also quieter than staying in Flores. Wish we could have stayed longer!
- Sergio (10/5): Hotel bonito y comodo.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great for a week or an overnighter - My one night stay at Palomino Ranch was wonderful. The Doñas are wonderful and accommodating. They helped me find an ATM before my journey to Tikal. The ranch has beautiful horses that are well cared for and if you have the time you can go riding for a very reasonable price. I would stay again the next time I am in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to relax - Absolutely loved this hotel. The room was amazing with beautiful interior decoration, well-working AC, good wifi connectivity and hot shower. The property is vast and located a little bit off the main road but not too far, and has such a relaxing atmosphere. It was also refreshing to get into the swimming pool after coming back from Tikal. They pack a lunch box for you if you are leaving for Tikal before the breakfast hours. They also let you use their bicycles to explore around the town.
- Alethea (10/5): Great staff and clean rooms - The hotel was just perfect. We were looking for somewhere close to Tikal but still outside of the park and the Palomino fit the bill! The staff was amazingly helpful from arranging a tour guide to doing our laundry. The room was clean, the shower hot, and the grounds well kept. I would definitely recommend this hotel!! Oh, and the food was good! Order the pullazo!!!
- Scott (10/5): Best hotel ever - Started off a little rough with some check in confusion. But there was some language barriers. But they definitely made up for it in device. The room was cute and clean. The horses we great and well taken care of. The area is safe. Its definitely a must see.
- Chris (10/5): - Great stopping off point to visit Tikal
- Maria (10/5): Awesome ranch close to Tikal, fantastic owner. - This place is the perfect place to stay if you plan on visiting Tikal. It is located in a small town next to a lake and only a short drive to Tikal and Flores. The place itself is quite unique with the horses, nature and the american retro style. The owner is very helpfull and nice, and we will definitely stay here again if we return to Guatemala. Highly recommended.
