Guest Reviews
- Mike (10/5): -
- Pascal (10/5): - Fantastic stay in an incredible location where the rainforest meets the ocean. Staff were helpful and friendly and the food was great too. We loved our three nights here
- Irina (10/5): - The cabins were very comfortable. We also very much appreciated the private bathroom and shower.
The food was thoughtfully and deliciously prepared. The staff was very helpful and attentive. I do have to say a special thank you to our wonderful and funny guide Joel.
- Mike (9/5): - Staff were great.
- Thomas (10/5): -
- Melissa (10/5): -
- Bianca (10/5): Ganz besonderes Erlebnis!
- william (9/5): - The only thing that needed upgrading was the lighting in the tent.
- Bernard (9/5): A small haven between paradise and the wild. - The lodge is set directly on the beach, nestled in lush vegetation and palm trees, far from everything, yet just a 3.5 km walk from Carate. The bungalows offer all modern comforts, along with a pleasant bar and restaurant serving food at fair, market-rate prices.
An ideal place to disconnect from everyday life or to unwind for a few days after a multi-day trek in nearby Corcovado National Park.
- Xavier (9/5): Perfect place to chill out - Perfect location to chill out, far away from crowds, nearby Corcovado, surrounded by nature, with very friendly staff, possibilities to have tours, massage or simply the beach for you Quite a budget at the end of the day, even if unique site and extra costs can be justified by remoteness
- Paul (10/5): -
- Chad (9/5): -
- jenella (10/5): Real rainforest experience - this is an extraordinary locally owned platform cabin lodge in the rainforest next to the major national park with the most biodiversity in all Central America. Dispite the challenging location our room with Erie clean, no mold ( a rainforest problem) and fun. With an outdoor shower and a beautiful trail leading to it with candles along the way. They're very basic amenities as expected in a remote launch. The people were extraordinarily nice and fascinating. We will be going back and StayIng in Touch.
it is low-key and not overbearingly fancy with the resources that you need and cool animals walking by in the evening and amazing birds in the morning and a beach view that is unbelievable!
- Lucy (9/5): A great place and staff, but too expensive for a place without electricity in the rooms. - Staff were amazing and would go out of their way for you, right next to one of the entrances to the national park, monkeys and anteaters come into hotel grounds, hotel has its own trails. No electricity in rooms - so no fans or aircon, it became very difficult to keep cool as I went in April which is the start of the hotter season. Would probably be fine in the cooler season - Nov to March.
- Bastien (10/5): Nature place - Far from everything - Lilte paradise lost at the very end of the road - yes it is not cheap - yes it can be tough to get there - yes it is not 5 stars confort place : But if you go there you should initially know why - remoteness and wildlife.
You can swim in the sea just in fornt (being carreful of RIP current) and the personnel was very welcoming.
Again the tours and locals beverages are not cheap but this is cheaper than Disneyland (and way better IMO ;). It would be great to have more exclusive tours than the "classic" hike toward the National park (compulsory by law / cannot go out from the unique path). But the Lodge has a couple of trails around with plenty to visit.
- Jane (9/5): A wonderful place to explore the national park and surrounding areas -
- Eva (10/5): Perfect stay in a beautiful place - Perfect stay in a beautiful place
- Dorota (9/5): Unique natural experience, right by the edge of Corcovado Reserve - This is a location for nature lovers. It is unique and secluded, right by the edge of the Corcovado reserve. You get to see animals on the daily, and I loved the outside shower, especially in the night, since there is no light pollution you can see the stars clearly. Although not an issue for me, I think the lodge should also mention these:
To get there, you need to take a 3,5km walk, and your staff can only be taken there during low tide. There are strong currents, so swimming in the ocean is not safe. The huts are made up of mosquito nets and curtains, so you hear the jungle and the sea very well. Wonderful throughout the day, but at night I needed to use ear plugs in order to fall asleep.
- Tattiana (8/5): Very good - Remote location, next to Corcovado. Staff is very welcoming. Very convenient parking, with support for luggage transport, with showers and toilet The food is good, but the price is high vs the quality.
- Carolen (9/5): Superb - Wonderful meals and beautiful location!
- Florin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hélène (10/5): 1 night in paradise ! - It’s like leaving a moment out of this world in a complete paradise ! We had such a great time, location is incredible between the tropical jungle and the ocean, the tents are perfect and have everything we need and the view on the beach. The food was so good, the best we had in Costa Rica, the prices feel justified compared to the rest of the country.
The staff is awesome, really nice and helped have the best experience there.
The hotel offers night walks where we got to see turtles nesting, hikes in the Corcovado with a great guide who is willing to share his experience of nature and naturals, massages also.
I can only recommend !! Not something that we didn’t like, but just good to know that getting there is complex if we don’t have a 4x4. We needed to take a taxi for 2h or a collectivo to get there.
But the journey is really worth it !!
- Jasper (10/5): Superb location once in a lifetime - The end of civilisation is hard to find on this planet. But here it is. In a relatively comfortable way. With home made food and drinks and fruits and private open air showers. A wonderfull nature experience. It was all good :)
- Catherine (10/5): Amazing staff. Beautiful location. -
- Jerone (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tibor (9/5): Superb - Great perfect beautiful location next to corcovado national Park. Some nice walking trails, excellent guide, very friendly staff and all the guests were wonderful to be with. Compared to other locations in the area the food was rather simple but also considering the distance the food had to be brought in it was good. The pillows were pretty standard Costa Rica pillows meaning they weren't very comfortable. The location is right off the beach which is absolutely stunning beautiful from sunrise to sunset but ithe very loud wave crashing makes sleeping difficult. Bring earplugs!
- Viviana (10/5): Exceptional stay in paradise - The staff was super kind and helpful. Food was amazing! This place is paradise. Note that it is not recommended to swim in the beach but it is super refreshing to take a dip after hiking around. We would appreciate a bit more of shelf space or maybe a bigger night stand inside the tent. Other than that, this is an amazing place.
- Dave (1/5): Not Happy! - After we booked and were on our way, we were sent an email to say we would have to hike up to three and a half kilometres along the beech to reach the property. This was not made clear at the time of booking. I contacted the property to say that it was simply not acceptable that I, at 71, and my wife, at 69, should be expected to hike in high temperatures and humidity to reach the property and that this information should be right upfront when booking. I later discovered it hidden away in a dropdown menu on the booking site. This also indicated that a pickup could be arranged 3 days in advance, which wasn't the case with our booking.
I contacted the property and Booking.com. The property said it was a problem I would have to take up with Booking.com. Booking.com said I would have to take it up with the property.
- Isabelle (8/5): Very good -
- Brett (8/5): - Very difficult to get to - hour and a half of bumpy roads to Carate, then a 3.5k hike. The logistics were not well communicated, but worked out fine. Hot (mid-April visit). The grounds are pretty special with spider monkeys frolicking in the trees right above the tents and ocean waves supplying 24-7 white noise. The guided hike into the National Park was underwhelming - the wildlife was superb, but you only skirt the periphery of the park and don't get to really explore the old growth.
- Matthijs (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing experience, seen so many animals and birds. The staff is amazing and the bed are comfortable It is super humid at la leona, make sure to bring a clean shirt or two. It is a long trip, to get there and you need to be fit for it, but its worth it
- Thomas (10/5): Osa Ecolidge Gem - The walk in was easy and we got to ride the luggage cart out. Very isolated with every meal top notch. The manager was very attentive and every thing was spotlessly clean.
- Wendy (10/5): Superb experience. - Isolated location was wonderful. There was so much wildlife.including scarlet macaws.
Staff were very warm and welcoming.
Food was good although there was no choice. The heat was difficult to cope with at times and cold showers were appreciated.
- Mare (10/5): - I just finished my third stay at La Leona Eco Lodge. The location, right next to the sea, and La Leona entrance to Corcovado National Park is utterly captivating! The cabinas are immaculate and lovely. The staff are hardworking, helpful and kind. Great food, and spectacular location, make La Leona the ultimate tropical paradise!
- Camille (8/5): Very good - The tours, night and day; with a guide were really amazing. We saw so many nice animals and enjoyed a lot the nature. The lack of choice for the food. For example; I would have preferred a buffet for the breakfast, to be able to chose what I wanted to eat. And same for other meals. To have a choice between 2 or 3 different meals.
That the conditions of access were earlier mentioned. We received an e-mail 1 day before, and learnt that we were forced to take a taxi because no bus were possible for our days.
- Ana (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Spencer (9/5): Nice atmosphere but hungry most of the time - Remote United size of meals
- Jasmin (10/5): Just beautiful - Everythingm Nothing, only point would be that for lunch & dinner they should mention that you can get a refill. We didnt know and left the table still hungry, for which the food is too expensive.
- Tristan (9/5): Superb -
- Carl (10/5): - The staff and guides were awesome. Staff go out of their way to make your stay amazing. The setting is fabulous and off the beaten track from the other touristy areas in the country. The food was very good. Surrounded by wildlife.
- Stephen (9/5): Was a great experience with nature in an eco lodge - Great staff and location
- Hilde (10/5): Just paradise, on all fronts! Wonderful experience, beautiful lodge, friendly staff & fabulous food -
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location at the entrance to Corcavado park. Wonderful friendly staff who were very attentive and welcoming. Tent cabins have candles for light and our room had a private outdoor bathroom. Unique experience near one of the most biodiverse parks on the planet.
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional - The location was stunning. We had the place to ourselves. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and accomadating. Thank you to Frank for the birthday celebrations 🍾. The food was very good and the chef catered for our needs.
We asked to move accomadation given they were quite this wasn't a problem.
The walk in the national park with the guid was excellent. He was knowlegable and went out if his way to show us things.
- Jeremy (10/5): - Food was great and the wildlife just within walking distance was amazing
- Gavin (10/5): Idyllic remote getaway for people who don't mind being away from everyday excesses - Unique location, lovely beachfront garden, hospitable staff, good food, Nothing - but if you need a drive-up hotel, electricity in your rooms and a wide menu, don't come.
- Rahel (10/5): It is unbelievable beautiful, to stay in the middle of nature. - That is a fantastic place, really special.
You see a lots of animals around the lodge. In the evening they closed too early the dining- and stayingroom.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional - Our third stay at La Leona, can’t beat the location and the staff is awesome. This visit we stayed at La Leona before our three day hiking trip to Sirena field station. Staff is super friendly and helpful, food is delicious, beds are comfortable, and lots of scarlet macaws. One of our favorite places to stay in Costa Rica!
- Jacqui (9/5): Superb -
- Joyce (10/5): Love La Leona! - Everything was just right! Such a gorgeous location & super friendly staff!! It was our second stay & we love being at La Leona & so close to Corcovado.
- Leo (10/5): Exceptional - Great experience! Highly recommended
- Olga (10/5): Exceptional -
- Olga (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (8/5): Very good -
- Shannon (10/5): Exceptional - the peacefulness and natural beauty
- Howard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (7/5): Great location but on the costly side - Location and the staff were very good Food was a bit bland. The value for money is not so good.
- Julija (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (9/5): Completely relaxed for two weeks in a beautiful location. - The place is an absolutely amazing location in the middle of nowhere with beautiful views, fresh air, abundant wildlife and absolutely fantastic staff. Are you wake up each morning to the sound of the Sea and the birds (and various other creatures) and feel completely refreshed. The bar staff are excellent and their smoothies and cocktails are outstanding. The food is healthy and plentiful. There are different types of cabins that you can stay in, each has the benefits. I recommend you spend a couple of nights in one of the monkey cabins on the hillside (which are quieter as they are further from the sea and a little cooler from being on the hill) and some nights in an ocean cabin (where the volume on the sea has been turned up, but they are nearer the main lodge buildings where you eat and drink etc). most people passing through we’re staying for two or three nights, and they all agreed that they should’ve stayed for longer. I recommend at least a week, as much as 10 days. I was travelling with my nine-year-old daughter, she was completely safe all the time and had a fabulous time playing in the cool water of a stream nearby. We went on some hikes into the jungle nearby, but frankly, so much wildlife introduces itself to you, that you can sit around the lodge and see all sorts of animals big and small without having to go very far! There was nothing that we didn’t like, but there are things that visitors need to be aware of. First, this is quite a difficult place to get to if you are elderly or have mobility issues. It cannot be made completely disabled friendly because of the nature of the location. We had no problems as we were both young and relatively fit, but you should bear that in mind. Also, visually inspect your clothes and shoes in the morning for creepy crawlies….
- Kathleen (9/5): Superb -
- victoria (10/5): - We spent three memorable days here. I would definitely recommend this for those who don't mind missing a few comforts of home (at night there is no electricity in the cabins, the bathrooms are outdoors, you don't get a choice of what to eat). We knew basically what to expect so had a great time. The staff go out of their way to make people feel comfortable and taken care of. My only suggestions to the owners would be 1) offer a few dining options; 2) perhaps give everyone a flashlight or solar lamp for nighttime (there are candles but those burn out quickly); 3) maintain the property's trails a bit better, since the rainforest is spectacular but the trails aren't clearly marked or maintained. There is a beautiful lagoon next to the property that was great for swimming on the hot afternoons, and the proximity to Corcovado Park can't be beat. The grounds are lovely with hammocks, a bar/juice bar open all day, and awesome ocean views.
- Chuanqi (10/5): Place to be for a real nature treat - THIS IS A PARADISE - the one and only eco lodge right before the Corcovado national park entrance directly at the beach. this means, you save the 4 km walk from carate to enter the NP trail, you can always go down to the beach and spend sunny beach time, you will fall asleep and wake up at sea waves, birds churning. there are hanging beds everywhere to just relax and read a book. Well you will not have high-end luxury facilities, but comfort, eco-friendly, minimalistic stuff to enjoy your vacation just right. Staff is super nice, fun and helpful. they prepared us delicious food and drinks .- they are very well organized and managed, which is very impressive. you felt like this place could be short of anything at anytime, but no, you will always get supplied and hlep. there is always water, juice, coffe and tea available. We also booked our tours directly with the lodge, everything worked fine. we will miss it here just a hint for those who are preparing a trip there: the sound of widlife and sea waves could be really loud, so maybe take some ear buds with you. ask for blankets because it could get quite chilly during the night, though super hot during the day. I was not able to sleep the first night since I got so cold.
- Olivia (9/5): Superb -
- Marc (9/5): Superb -
- Dieter (10/5): great Experience - We had a great time at La Leona Lodge. Felipe is a great helpful Organizer and also the complete staff make a great job. The Food was very delicious. Also the staff at the office in Puerto Jimenez is very friendly and make everything for the guests.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - Very nice setting directly on the beach, very friendly staff, loved the variety in meals, relaxing sound with the waves, private outdoor showers, easy arrangements for guided trips at day or at night, great to encounter the service of bringing our luggage from Carate to the lodge as it is a 3.5km walk on the beach. Good starting point to go into Corcovado NP. Nothing really, just be aware that there is a 3.5km walk from Carate, and the street from Puerto Jimenez to Carate is pretty rough, therefore takes with private care min 1.5h or with the little bus min 2.5h.
- Pippa (10/5): Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! - Loved the cabins and how remote everything was. Amazing food and host! Highlight of our visit to Costa Rica. Nothing - everything was amazing!
- Frederic (8/5): A good disconnect with a stay in the forest - far from everything… feeling to be immersed in the forest price for lunches and dinner are not reasonable, quality is ok
- Aviv (10/5): - Once in a lifetime spot! The most beautiful place on earth and incredible staff!
- Bruce (8/5): - The location is amazing! Ocean view fro everywhere!! Such a friendly staff with excellent service! I loved glamping!!
- Petr (10/5): - Amazing experience. Read the description of how to get there carefully.
- kelley (10/5): - Loved the tent ocean view “cabin”. It was wonderful to hear and see the surf rolling in. The place was super clean and the staff awesome. Phillippe was an excellent host, always warm and welcoming!! We had some problems transporting our luggage ahead of us to Drake Bay and they were more than helpful in solving our problems. The meals were good and portions more than enough. Can’t think of a negative thing to say. Great place to stay!
- Christine (10/5): - personal unglaublich freundlich & hilfsbereit.
essen hervorragend. natur einfach genisl.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Amazing location, private and secluded. Great tents/rooms. Be prepared however that the rooms dont have electricity or Wi-Fi so bring torch, books and Good company :)
Some improvements Could be Done regarding the food quality. We had dinner once during our stay (bring snacks!), and it was not so tasty and We expected a bit more cause everything else is so amazing. The night We skipped dinner the staff came to our room and asked Why We are not at the dinner area so it felt a little pushy to eat all the meals there.
Some miscommunication with the information center in puerto jimenez. Hotel info Said We Could store the luggage that We dont Need there, however staff that greeted us with ”What do you want?” And Said to leave our luggage at the Carate parking area. Note! Luggage cannot be stored there and luggage to la Leona is weight limited when using their service (4km from hotel). Had to leave our luggage in the car.
All in all though the location is amazing and We would come back!
- Melanie (10/5): Natur pur!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful magical place. The tent cabins were very clean and comfortable. Food was amazing. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Takes a little work to get to but it is well worth it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect jungle stay - We traveled as a family of 5 and had an amazing time. We stayed 3 nights and even got a upgrade so we slept directly in the tents at the beachfront.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and our tours very interesting. I would immediately go again!
- Martin (8/5): Nature pure - Great place to stay directly at the border of Corcovado NP. A bit simple tented lodge, but great people and very helpful. Full board included, as no other opportunities around. No electricity or hot water, but nature everywhere. Wifi and charging opportunities in the main building.
