- Eric B (10/5): Simple Stay in Chaouen – Great Location, Basic Comfort - Affordable & friendly staff – Basic but clean, with a smile that feels genuine.
Prime location – Right next to the Medina, steps away from the Spanish Mosque and sunset spots. Authentic experience – No tourist traps, just raw Chaouen charm.
Budget-friendly – Perfect for travelers who prioritize location over luxury.. Great terrace with view Poor WiFi – Expect slow connections (good for disconnecting, bad for work).
Street noise – Street vendors, and Instagrammers can get loud.
No blackout curtains – Bright mornings
Dodgy lock.
If you’re looking for a cheap, central crash spot in Chaouen—this is it. Just bring earplugs and let the city’s chaos fuel your adventure.

- Gepert (9/5): - Very helpful staff and nice atmosphere
- Javier (1/5): Absolutely disaster - I did not like anything. Here is what happened. I arrived to the hostel earlier than expected (around1pm) hoping I could just drop my heavy backpack even though I knew the check in would be later (agreed between 4-5pm). Unfortunately, the gate outside the front patio was closed. I knocked and shouted but nobody came. I contacted the host via booking but they did not reply for a long time so I decided to leave and come back later at 4pm as agreed.
At 4pm the gate was open but the door of the hostel was closed. I rang the bell and someone let me in ?remotely but there was no one in there! no clients no receptionist literally it was like a ghost hostel. I checked on every floor and room.
I contacted them again but in view of their poor communication, I decided to leave and find another hostel elsewhere. I reported them to Booking who managed the situation and got me a free cancelation.
If I was you, I will NEVER stay here. They were very unprofessional, they let me down twice with my backpack (it could it be raining or super hot they did not care) and to be fair the hostel looked old and not well maintained anyway so find something else within the Medina where you get proper vibe of Chaouen. - Donghang (10/5): Good for the value. - The view and street is very beautiful. There was some mold on the wall.

- Mirjam Daphne (8/5): -
- Mirco (4/5): - Buona posizione Le lenzuola erano pessime, ingiallite, materasso e cuscini piuttosto scadenti.
- Ijouane (4/5): -
- Imad (8/5): Very good - Nice

- Anna-maria (6/5): Uncomfortable beds, lights didn't work, uncomfortable plastic chairs at the rooftop, nice employees - The boys at the hostel, even though they barely spoke English, were very nice and tried to understand my broken French. It was also located very close to the medina. A person cleaned the bathrooms every morning. The beds were really uncomfortable, like 4/10, just bearable for a few nights but I kind of dreaded lying down. The rooftop had a great view but there were no couches or anything, just plastic chairs without pillows. A few couches would have made it SO much better. The toilets, although cleaned every day, smelled bad and the shower only occasionally had warm water. There were no places to hang out except for the badly equipped rooftop. The lights on the rooftop didn't work and neither did the ceiling light in our room.
- Rosemary (6/5): The location was central and the hostel was quiet and peaceful. - The room was spacious and the view was beautiful.
And they did a good in maintaining cleanliness in the hostel. I was on the 1st but had to either shower on the ground floor or 2nd floor because there was no shower on the 1st floor.
They did a good job keeping the restroom clean but there was a stench smell from the pipe/drainage.
- Elkaouar (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (9/5): Very nice and well worth the money. - It’s a nice little hostel, situated just outside the old town though still in the centre.
The staff are all friendly and welcoming.
A pretty good hostel. Recommended.
- Carlos (8/5): Very good - Staff is friendly and willing to help inspite of our language barrier. They state there to be a shared kitchen. There isn't.
- Krzysztof (10/5): Exceptional -
- Krzysztof (10/5): Great value for the price. - I don’t understand why this hostel has such low rating. It’s perfectly located 5 mins from main square but also from mountain 🏔️. The guys working there don’t speak much other than Arabic but they are so nice and friendly. And the most important ! You can pay with card!!!!! The bathroom has a big windows always opened - it’s cold at night.
- Taifi (3/5): Poor -
- Juan_ospina (7/5): La joya de Chefchaouen - Staying in La Joya was a really nice expriences which also helped us get into the local culture, it's pretty centric located and it has facilities, there was no breakfast included and the staff was pretty attentive even though they didn't understand french to the perfection but we managed to communicate. I would stay again and recommend La Joya for travellers like us in Chefchaouen. There was a waiting time at the begigging due to an unexespected error on the booking bit they were eager to solve it.
- Jeffery (6/5): Pleasant - Location One shared shower for entire building and shared bathroom
- Viktor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Λαδικα (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yassir (9/5): Superb - Primary the location, it was literally next the old medina and close to all chefchaouen popular sites. There’s nothing to complain about relatively to the price.
- Siham (10/5): Exceptional - Everything
- Akram (9/5): Superb -
- Fatima (3/5): Not recommend - The location Not clean the bathroom smells
- Chris (7/5): Good - Location. Staff good. Rooms small, & noisy.
- Zoubair (10/5): Hostal la joya best hostal in Chefchaouen - The location of this Hotel is perfect, the staff are super nice and friendly and everything is so clean, it's super safe too.
Salamn in the reception can give advices and will take you into places if he's available he is amazing. Nothing to mention really
- Simon (8/5): Very good - Location and street access for motorcycle.
- Paya (4/5): - Positive points:
- Check-in/check-out process was fast and easy.
- Price was relatively cheap (I paid around 15 dollars per night)
- Staff were almost friendly, but the didn't speak any english. Might be a challenge if you have extra requests other than getting to your room, etc.
Negative points:
- Unclean overall.
- Most of the spaces smelled badly with lots of flies hovering from time to time, including the bathroom.
- Towels also smelled like they were not washed.
- There were no handsoap in the only bathroom which was shared between the rooms.
Conclusion:
For 10 to 15 dollars a night, might be an ok place if you are only staying for one night, spending most of the time outside and only want a bed to sleepon. But there are other hostels in the area where you can get a nice clean room for 20-25 dollars a night which also include a private clean bathroom.
Personally, I will never go back to this place again.
- Briana (8/5): enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra night! - minimalist ! perfect for our needs! loved the rooftop balcony and the view of the mountains.
- Garryb69 (1/5): Bad - Nothing Filthy. Poor wifi. Front desk playing video games at 3 a.m. Bathrooms moldy and very dirty.
- Pol (10/5): blue! - very friendly owners and a beautiful terrace!
Lovely location
- Garryb69 (6/5): Pleasant - The place was clean and orderly. There was no kitchenette and the wifi on the terrace was poor at best.
- Minhee (1/5): the worst stay.. - Only location It was so dirty, I couldn’t lie comfortable on the bed because I see so many dirty things. It looked like they don’t clean the sheet. I wanted to ask to change the sheet, but no one speaks English so things were not easy.
- Ayoub (7/5): I had a beautiful stay at the hostel. I wish I could come often - everything is clean nothing
- Taguenaouti (10/5): Exceptional - The location is unbelievably good, every place youd like to visit in chefchaoune is near, beautiful view, if want a place to sleep maybe enjoy a beautiful view in the morning or the night, it's place. It was better than i expected lol
- Sundayman (6/5): Pleasant -
- Byron (7/5): Good location outside medina - Good location and nice view from the terrace but felt dirty (maybe because it’s old) and didn’t have a good smell straight away when we entered. Staff was nice with straightforward checkin but didn’t add anything to the experience. if you’re simply looking for a place to sleep while you visit the Chefchaouen medina then it’s fine but I wouldn’t spend more time there than I had to.
- Andrew (8/5): Good value. Needs some work. - The young boys at the hostal cannot speak English.
They asked me twice to pay for my stay. Even tho it was already paid through the app.
The terrace has a wonderful view. But needs some work to make it nice.
All in all good value tho.
- mikael (4/5): - Qualité du lit très mauvais
Chambre à côté punaise de lit
- Verified traveler (4/5): -
- Verified traveler (4/5): - 11/14
- Christine (6/5): - Okay room, hard bed, only amenities was toilet roll and shampoo sachet. Regular bathroom checks would be nice as it was always full of hair in the sink and the floor.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The view was amazing upstairs!! Staff wer nice and welcoming! I would recommend this place to freinds!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property was a perfect location. Would reccomend bringing earplugs for light sleepers, but not horribly loud!
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Bud (8/5): Great. - Great place.
- Joel (8/5): Not bad if you want to save some money - Being a hostel, everything was a bit cramped. Accessing the bathrooms was inconvenient, especially considering that they were shared. Other than that, everything was great. The service was genuine, there was a good view, although the room was a little cold. Easy access to Medina and waterfall
- Shreya (8/5): La hoYA - Great location. Bed was hard as a rock. Small room but cozy so doable, but showers dont have a door. Worth what your paying
- Glyn (8/5): Old but quaint, good if you like a hard bed - Bed was hard as nails and room quite small with the bathroom up a couple of steps. However the hostel is in an old building so each room is unique. Staff were friendly and helpful and the terrase has a great view. It is in a quiet street just outside the medina so a taxi can take you to the door. Clean with good hot shower and decent WiFi
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Charged twice. Room small. Toilets broken. No blankets.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Lots of other better hostels in the area - This hostel is a work in progress. And it has a really long way to go still. Unfortunately, I saw other hostels in the area and they are much, much better compared to this one. The room smelled musty and dirty, hit my head twice on the doorway arch going to the bathroom because it was about 5 feet high, and took pains to shower a certain way in order for the water to not stream into the bedroom area. Yes it was cheap but for the same price you can get a better room at other hostels. Such a shame because the balcony view of the mountainside is breathtaking.
