- jpbSurrey (10/5): Picture perfect - A long-planned anniversary break with my wife, which included the hire of a classic hire, which fitted the mood of this hotel perfectly. Situated in the heart of Beaulieu, it is in a picture perfect setting with lots of car parking at the rear. We had a warm welcome and were shown to a well furnished room on the first floor with views over a very pretty garden courtyard. Everything was very clean and there were lots of thoughtful touches as well, both for humans and dogs, which the hotel is proud to accommodate it seems. Dinner in the Terrace in the evening was lovely - food was fresh, well presented and very tasty. Highly recommended

I’d say yes take a look for yourself. - It’s difficult to write a review without making it sound as if I work there or this is some kind of publicity stunt but I don’t and it’s not. Right from the outset, easy to find, private secure car park, a hand in with the luggage and a really easy check-in process. The rooms are lovely, very nicely decorated, clean and tidy . The ensuite has towels, dressing gowns and a selection of toiletries. The food in both restaurants is absolutely lovely, superbly cooked and very well presented, check out the afternoon teas. As for the staff, they are fantastic, happy and friendly, happy to please, very professional and excellent customer care/service. The checkout process is just as easy, you can take your time they don’t rush you, they help with your luggage. A very very enjoyable stay in a lovely location and extremely good value for money all round. I will definitely be going back and I highly recommend it.
- SteveElliottSwindon (10/5): Great New Forest Escape - We’ve had a fantastic two night stay in one of the Hayloft rooms just away from the mail hotel. Brilliant facilities, friend staff and their own Monty’s Inn Pub right next door. A lovely village and lots of things nearby, either driving distance or in the case of Buckler’s Hard, a lovely 40 minute walk starting at the back of the hotel. Takes awhile to get used to the horses, donkeys and cows walking randomly around ! A much needed break :)

- rebeccarB1698OO (10/5): Cosy stay, amazing staff and brilliant for dogs - Great stay and very dog friendly. Perfect location with a lovely walk behind the hotel to the next village – ideal if you’re travelling with a dog. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and the whole place had a really welcoming atmosphere. Our room was cosy, beautifully maintained and excellent value. The dog package was the best we’ve experienced – bed, bowls, toy, treats, shampoo and poo bags, plus even a pick-and-mix treat station for dogs and guests. Lovely lounge with a log fire, dog cushions to borrow, a beautiful garden/patio and plenty of parking. We also ate at Monty’s, the dog-friendly pub next door, and the food was delicious. We’ll definitely be back.

Gorgeous room, good food, excellent and hospitable staff (particularly the younger team members who couldn't do enough for you). The gardens are beautifully kept. A really relaxing say.
- Q4989KIjennye (10/5): Already looking forward to the next visit - Second visit, looking forward to the next. Family of five, inc g'parents and 3 year old, two garden suites, ideal. Rooms spcious, bathrooms, fabulous, but comfort depends on many things and its the way the hotel is run that makes the difference. This is a 'kind' hotel, they cater, in a v quiet way for everyone. Dont expect pools and play spaces, or anything flash, do expect, attention to detail, real flowers on the dining tables, hot plates with every meal, prompt service and a general air of calm well being- the pub next door ( part of the hotel) is ideal for early kid suppers, and dogs are v welcome.

The location is perfect, right in the heart of the New Forest, offering a peaceful setting while still being close to local attractions and lovely walks. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is warm, elegant, and very welcoming. The staff were friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The room was beautifully presented, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness really stood out. Everything felt well maintained and relaxing. I also felt the stay offered great value for the quality of the experience. Overall, a wonderful hotel with charm, comfort, and excellent service. I would happily return and highly recommend it to others.
- 491pennyl (10/5): A country escape - If you want to nip out of London for an indulgent country house weekend (with walks and the Beaulieu estate right on the doorstep) you should check yourselves in here. From our arrival in the rain to departure in the sun we felt welcomed and pampered by excellent staff. There is a good choice of rooms; from the older ones of the main house to more modern options around the garden and courtyard. They have a good website and Instagram – so you can see them all there. Good value, and clean. You will also see the small but rather beautiful garden (and the feature rooms where we stayed). The Terrace Restaurant itself was very good. The food at their Monty’s Inn was what you’d expect (pub grub) but livened up with some interesting starters. To summarise: would we come back? Yes. Thanks.

It’s not a busy time of year but all the staff were welcoming, polite and would help in any way for you to enjoy your stay. - Jack023 (10/5): A friendly and historic hotel with pleasant garden and excellent location - A characterful hotel well situated in a picturesque village in the New Forest. We stayed in Room 23, a type described as House Feature. Apart from double bed the furnishings included a comfortable sofa and the en-suite bathroom was convenient, well-lit and with effective plumbing including conventional bath. Better shelving to place toilet bags would perhaps have been welcomed. Our room was at the back of the hotel, peaceful and with windows looking out over the charming hotel garden. We had hoped to dine in the hotel's main restaurant, but unfortunately it was closed on the evening of our visit so we elected to dine in Monty's Inn, which belongs to the hotel and adjoins the main building. We enjoyed our meal there, but the menu was of the kind you might expect from a superior pub restaurant. Monty's Inn welcomes dogs. Whilst we have nothing against such creatures, and their presence didn't spoil our dining experience, we would nevertheless have preferred to dine in a less doggy setting. The hotel was clean and - despite its august history, having entertained such distinguished guests as General de Gaulle, Rider Haggard and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - we found the staff delightful and not at all standoffish. Documents relating to the Home Guard during World War II were displayed on the walls of the corridor leading to our room: a further link with a fascinating history.

The room was spacious with a very comfy sofa, a good sized bathroom and a view over the peaceful garden. The complementary flapjack was a tasty touch. The staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant - nothing was too much trouble. I would be happy to recommend this hotel to anyone - I felt we received excellent value for money and will definitely return.

- jda180 (10/5): Perfect weekend away - We wanted a weekend away in a small hotel, pub with rooms to complement our visit to the Motor Museum and Palace House - the Montagu Arms was just right and our package included the tickets too. The Hayloft Suite was spacious with a view of the delightful garden as well as being quiet. Monty's Inn served delicious food with a good menu to suit a vegetarian with friendly professional service. Although we're not dog owners, we noted how the hotel provided extras for those who were accompanied by the pets, and same for children - all very thoughtful. As well as working well for visiting the Beaulieu estate, there's an added bonus of a the footpath to Bucklers Hard for our walk in the afternoon. Add in the ponies and donkeys wandering around nearby and it made for a perfect trip.

The service was absolutely impeccable and all the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The food in the Terrace restaurant was superb. We would recommend the beef, it was cooked to perfection!

A lovely relaxing atmosphere in the hotel, friendly staff who made us feel very welcome and two super meals at the attached Monty’s Inn. Particular highlight were the eight donkeys who arrived at the hotel one afternoon! Would definitely recommend and hope to return maybe in the summer when we could enjoy the beautiful garden too.

Everything was fantastic, the room was beautiful and clean, they had even left a birthday card for him too which was so kind of them. The food was fantastic, they accommodated to us not being drinkers and provided alternatives for the G&T afternoon tea I had booked as a surprise. All the staff were so kind throughout our stay and I would highly recommend staying here. We will certainly be booking again.

The rooms are wonderful and spacious and have a homey feel. The gardens are beautiful and despite being here in the deepest of winter, we felt the benefit of the well cared for garden and patios. The restaurant was a great surprise as the food was delicious and the service was perfect. Definitely recommend for a stay in the New Forest.

The team were incredibly accommodating and organised — everything ran smoothly, and they responded promptly to all our emails. They were also very flexible when we needed to make changes, which made the planning process so stress-free. When our cake was accidentally damaged in transit, the staff handled it seamlessly and fixed it without any fuss. On top of that, they kindly upgraded our room free of charge, which was such a lovely surprise. From start to finish, the Montagu Arms made our wedding feel special, effortless, and truly memorable. We can’t recommend them highly enough!

We love the courtyard rooms with a spacious lounge area, massive bathroom and beautiful gardens front and rear. So easy to have your dog there and dogs are also welcome in everywhere except the main restaurant. The staff made our visit exceptional; fantastic food and service and nothing was too much trouble. Thoroughly recommend this hotel. It is really special and the location is perfect; the New Forest location can’t be beaten We will be back!

- kimberleyg545 (10/5): December Wedding - We had our wedding at the hotel in the Oakwood Room. Us and our guests stayed at the hotel for two nights, and had dinner at Monty’s. Everything was excellent. The staff were so welcoming and couldn’t do more for us. The food was superb and the rooms were luxurious. We were absolutely thrilled with how the wedding day went. It was all we could have dreamt of and more. Virginia was incredible. She went over and above to make sure every single detail was covered. She is a total perfectionist. We can’t thank her enough for all her hard work. Clara (marketing and events manager) was an absolute pleasure to liaise with. Clara was so prompt in her responses, ensuring all details were covered and with that, we felt completely reassured we had chosen the right place. I didn’t have to worry about anything, Clara had it all under control. The Montagu Arms is forever going to be a special place for us and we can’t wait to return for our first anniversary.

- Jdelrizzle12 (10/5): Excellent venue for intimate wedding in the heart of the new forest - We hosted our wedding at the Montagu Arms and it was everything we hoped and dreamed of. Perfectly situated in the heart of the new forest it was ideal for visiting Bucklers Hard for a post wedding day walk, and the PIG for a pre-wedding night meal. All of the team members were excellent; from the pre-organising of the wedding, the the execution on the day, and the rest of the team at the hotel. The rooms felt cozy, clean and premium with little extra's like a taster of sloe gin. We were impressed with the value offered by their intimate wedding package and felt it was the perfect size for our party of 12. Can't recommend highly enough.

Excellent food and wines in both the hotel and attached pub , and great service from all the staff who were very efficient but also warm and friendly , couldn’t do enough for you . The Xmas 3 day package was very well thought out , nobody (including dogs )wanted for anything . Great walks from the doorstep , particularly the riverside walk to Bucklers Hard , all in all a lovely stay . Hotel beautifully situated , plenty of parking at rear and beautiful garden’s leading down to the hotel . Be nice to visit in spring/ summer to see them in their prime .
- timjones57 (10/5): The Hidden Gem - New Years Eve party, a Gala Dinner, with exquisite food menus for meat eaters and vegetarians. The wine tasting in the afternoon affords the chance to get to know your fellow guests, and breaks the ice for a fantastic evening. From the hotel, expect and receive only the best. The hotel staff are committed to your evening, driven by delivering excellence, while walking the fine line of friendliness and professionalism. Nothing is too much, and the little touches of class are superb... I won't spoil the surprises! The Hotel is a hidden gem, located in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, with walks, pubs, and attractions close, but not too close. Quiet location, but enogh going on. The hotel is presented clean, and spacious, but still feels like home. It is on the high-end of the pricing, but the value you get will not disappoint. It is a place you will want to return to... again and again... but, please, don't tell anyone else!!
- Tarmum (10/5): Lovely hotel for a luxorious escape - Only stayed one night for a last minute break. It was just what we needed. Lovely service and nice to see real log fires. We were given a larger room than we booked, very grateful for that nice touch. Lovely relaxing atmosphere, ate in terrace restaurant which was good (although room could have been warmer!). Only minor criticism is that hot breakfast item incur an extra charge, seems a bit u unnecessary for a hotel at this price point. However breakfast was delicious. We will hopefully return for a longer visit.
- murrayparker (10/5): Fantastic Christmas stay at the Montague Arms - From the moment we arrived the fantastic staff couldn’t do enough for us. The room was lovely and the welcome hamper a nice surprise. We ate in the pub first night and the service was once again warm and friendly. The next two days we ate at the hotel restaurant and once again cant fault the service given. A special thank you to Davide for his passion for providing excellent hospitality.
- Trojm12 (6/5): Enjoyable but could be better. - We did enjoy our meal in the pub side of this lovely place but it could have been better. Firstly after being seated in a dull part of the room which in my eyes if your going for a lovely Christmas special dinner you want it to make you feel cosy and festive, I asked the waitress if we could move to the empty seating by the festive window, she went and asked as she said it was the Special seating, I mean we booked this restaurant 3 weeks ago so why wasn’t we put there, the result was we could move and it was so much better. Feeling relaxed now we decided to order the steaks, mine was lovely but husbands was grisly even though he went for the more expensive one. We enjoyed ourselves though but my only gripe is why when you order such a lovely and expensive dish why can’t they just add a bit of greenery to it, just a handful of Hampshire watercress would of lifted and completed that dish to almost perfection.
- 749susannam (10/5): OUTSTANDING in every aspect - Booked a night stay to see the New Year in at this gorgeous hotel set in the heart of the New Forest and I couldn’t have been more impressed with the whole experience. The hotel is totally gorgeous, the accommodation was like a 5 star apartment, so beautiful, I would happily move in there! The staff so amazing, friendly polite and helpful, you would be hard pressed to find anywhere to match it! Champagne and canopies followed by a 5 course menu was incredible, such a fun and enjoyable atmosphere and everyone was looked after so well. I took my 2 dogs and they were looked after just as well as the 2 legged guests, comfy beds, bowls, toys and treat awaited them with plenty of lovely walks, they loved it! I can’t wait to return as the Montagu Arms is totally fabulous, they go above and beyond to ensure guests are looked after, I cannot it recommend highly enough. Thankyou for the most wonderful stay x

- 823stevew (10/5): The Perfect Christmas Break in the New Forest - My wife and I decided to trying something different rather than Christmas at home. We decided to take the three day break at Montagu Arms Hotel. We have stayed here before and always enjoyed the experience. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff including the hotel manager with the log fire in the background also radiating a glowing warm welcome followed by afternoon tea. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day were delightfully accompanied by comfort, champagne with delicious food and wines. The room was perfect for our stay, quiet, clean and warm. In the lounge before each evening meal we would enjoy champagne and canapes. This gave us the opportunity to meet the other guests in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The Montagu Arms Hotel being located in Beaulieu is surrounded by beautiful relaxing walks with the New Forest. Value for money is well worth this stay. What brings us back to Montagu Arms Hotel time and time again is the customer service. We have always found the staff so friendly and helpful. If you are considering a relaxing festive break away from the normal stresses of life, Montagu Arms Hotel is the place to be and not just at Christmas.

- OZGvG (10/5): Great being back - We first visited the MA in 1970. We spent our wedding night there. Since then we have visited them on numerous occasions at least 21 times, the last time we were here was this past weekend when we spent Sat night to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We stayed in a wonderful room. I think it is the best room in the hotel, called Chestnut, over main entrance, with a view of the Mill Pond also the room is spacious and has a wonderful décor. It also has a seating area in bedroom and living room. Room is wonderful. All of fittings in the bathroom are perfect, it is what would you have if you had money. We like staying in hotels because we like the anonymity of a hotel rather than someone’s house. The staff at the MA are attentive to a all degree particularly impressed of the bar Manager Paul. Also Paulo, they are great, first aft tea there we had aft sandwiches besides the fire it was great. The hotel is obviously hugely popular as a wedding venue whilst we were there was a drinks reception and also another wedding show round. The MA is expensive but also has great value for money which is what matters. What can I say. We celebrated our occasions there it is wonderful, if it wasn’t for Covid would have visited more. MA was wonderful. There is many attractions nearby, from Bhard to Brockenhurst. It is a wonderful setting. When we got there we phoned ahead for my disabled parking space and Vince at reception made all the necessary arrangements and so did Olaf in the evenings. The complex is massive and extends so far at the back you wouldn’t know it is there. Lovely fountain from the garden that has been there for the last 20 years.

The organisation was smooth and professional, and the staff on the day who looked after us were delightful. We had a number of rooms, and they were all well presented and perfectly clean and tidy - even the dogs approved. Food was very good, which I was impressed with as it was a group meal. The team gave us a wedding in a very relaxed atmosphere - I couldn't have asked for more.

It’s a beautiful location and lovely hotel for an ordinary weekend away. I planned to propose to my partner and said this when booking. We had to cancel dinner in the terrace room due to our dog coming into adolescence and not being able to be left. We let them know and was given local pub recommendations, and found out on check out we could have been accommodated to celebrate our engagement. I was disappointed with the lack of support to give my now fiancée the weekend away she deserved for our engagement.

- TimJAth (10/5): Wonderful! - We turned up very late one Friday night (or was it Saturday morning), it was about midnight. We were driving back to London because the hotel we had booked months in advance was deserted, we couldn’t check in (see my review of the Master Builder’s to understand more). Tired, cross and dreading the drive back to London we got to Beaulieu and just happened to spot the Montagu Arms Hotel. Worth a try I thought. What a relief! The night porter was old school, dedicated to his job and determined to provide good service to customers. He searched the hotel records for an available room (there is always one) and found one. We slept well and went down to breakfast. Too late! Breakfast was over, but they served us breakfast anyway in the lounge at no extra cost. Lovely room, polite and helpful staff, the night porter (with a French accent) deserves a medal. A great place to stay.

- 369geico (8/5): Nice casual daily restaurant at tha Montagu Arms Hotel in Beaulieu - Perfect location in the hearth of Beaulieu, at the High lane where even in town you can meet poneys from the New Forest running free in the streets and also close to the famous Palace House of Lord Sandwich. This is not the luxury restaurant at Montagu Arms hotel but the casual one next door. Fish meals are great as well the grilled Mackerel that we storngly recommand, as the perfect battered Fish and chips. Prices are medium range and service is run by pleasant waiters however a little slow.

We had planned a low key but very special and intimate day and they delivered. The setting was just perfect at Christmas with stylish decorations and a very special festive vibe. The food was a very high standard and very well executed particularly for those guests of ours who had dietary requirements, their food was just as impressive. Clara, the Wedding planner, is very experienced and very easy to work with. She made the process really easy and had many suggestions for the details of the celebrations that worked really well for us. We were lucky that our December wedding day weather was just lovely so we were able to make the most of the gardens and front of the hotel for some lovely pictures. We would highly recommend this venue for a special occasion. We had a really lovely day and Iook forward to returning to celebrating anniversary's and other occasions and to relive our wedding day.
- 649alunb (10/5): My favourite hotel in the UK - I love going to the Montagu Arms, which remains my favourite hotel in the UK, and it is great value for money. The welcome is always warm, and it is even better with the sweets there now :-). They allow you to pull your car up at the front to unpack your bags, which they will then carry to your room. Parking is excellent. The bedrooms are comfortable and very clean, with access via a real key that your phone won't delete. The beds are comfy, and the bathrooms are well-equipped and stocked. The only minor issue was that the room heating could not be turned down, but this was not really an inconvenience. Breakfast is excellent, made even better by Martha, one of the servers. She always asks if you will be back, and if not, she wishes you a wonderful trip. The food at breakfast is excellent. The full English is great. Although it's a busy hotel, the noise level is very low, and the atmosphere is very good. At checkout, which is quick, they give you an apple and water for the journey. The location is in the beautiful village of Beaulieu and is very convenient for the car museum. There are also great opportunities to see New Forest ponies and donkeys. I would highly recommend The Montagu Arms.
- 863adriang (10/5): Wonderful overnight stay - We enjoyed a lovely pampered pooch break, complete with a complimentary dog hamper full of treats and toys - such a thoughtful touch! The hotel is beautiful with stunning grounds, and we stayed in the Hazel room, a very impressive suite with direct access to the courtyard. The only minor issue was that the shower drained slowly, causing some water to pool on the wet room floor. We ate at Monty’s Inn in the evening (dog friendly) and the food was delicious. Overall a very enjoyable short break and we would have no hesitation in returning.
- 847somersettraveller (10/5): The Montagu Arms - Heaven in the New Forest - The Monatgu Arms is a very special hotel and the cosiest imaginable home from home. We love the New Forest and have looked in passing at the Montagu many times over the decades thinking 'now that looks a nice place to stay'. Well, we finally got there and were proved right! From the private sheltered car park (good for our old car) we wandered through the sumptuous gardens (greeted cheerily by the obviously very skilful gardeners) to the warm welcome in the vintage hall and at the reception desk. The receptionist could not have been more helpful and kindly managed to see us into our room early. The room (Laburnham) was to die for and one of the most beautiful hotels rooms we have ever stayed in (and that is over 40 years of seeking out the nicest hotels). Needless to say the food in Monty's and the Terrace restaurant was delicious with superb breakfasts both mornings. Also we should make mention of the very many pictures and curiosities on the wall of the hotel - all so interesting. Thank you to the Montagu Arms and all of its exceptional staff for a superb stay. We shall be back soon... Only for us it will not be soon enough!
- U6525GYpeters (6/5): Anniversary visit. - We stayed here about seven years ago and although the room back then was a little basic the restaurant made up for it. This time we were a little disappointed with the dining experience especially the service which was very different from our first visit. It was also a shame that we had no hot water in our room until later in the evening of our stay. On the whole not very good value.
- 389RobS (10/5): The Montagu Arms Hotel: a lovely place to stay - My wife and I stayed for two nights at the Montagu Arms Hotel and had a terrific time. The hotel has a really relaxed atmosphere; the room was spacious and modern whilst retaining a real sense of history and homeliness. The staff were outstanding; really friendly, helpful and welcoming and the attention to small things made us feel happy to be at the hotel: the homemade crabapple cordial on arrival, the bottles of water each day, the pick’n’mix sweets on the front desk and the bag of water and apples for our journey home (not forgetting the delicious flapjack with the in-room tea and coffee). Thanks to everyone at the hotel for a great stay and we hope to return as soon as possible.

The room was of a very high standard and the food served in the hotel restaurant and pub was first class. All of the staff had smiles on their faces and they were so helpful. - fionabY8391UJ (6/5): Afternoon tea for humans was fine; don't waste your money on their dog menu.... - We went here for afternoon tea and our experience was mixed, at best. We had booked previously for 2 humans and 2 dogs (as it is advertised as dog friendly). When we arrived, we were told by the receptionist, as we had dogs, we would be seated in the conservatory. There were no staff to be seen, but there was a table for 2 marked as reserved, so we assumed that was for us and sat down. After waiting 10 mins or so and no one appearing, my hub went in search of a staff member to let them know we were there. He found a waitress who proceed to tell we couldn't sit at that table as it was booked. She was right. It was booked. For us....Not the best welcome but, to be fair, the staff did then try to make amends by being friendly and attentive (albeit slightly awkwardly). We ordered afternoon tea - which when it arrived was perfectly fine (if not exceptional); and two 'chicken casseroles' for the dogs, priced at a whopping £11 each (yep. we are nuts). What arrived for them were two small bowls of what looked like rice with bits of carrot and peas, with no chicken to be seen. No one's idea of 'casserole' and honestly a bit of a mickey take at that price (the dogs still ate it, mind). I appreciate people who are dumb enough to spend that much on their dogs probably don't deserve much sympathy (first world problems, and all that), but it honestly did feel a bit cynical on the hotel's part, so, on that basis, I doubt we will return.

The service is exceptional , the continental breakfast delicious and the room ( in the Courtyard) clean and with lots of space , which is appreciated given that we take our dog - the hotel is in fact very dog friendly. However, along with the rest of the hospitality business, prices have moved up quite sharply over the last couple of years which means we will probably have to settle for a 2 night rather than a 3 night stay in the future.

Although way up in the roof, the room was spacious with a view through to the lake. Breakfast, we only took the continental, was very tasty and again very friendly staff. - green91 (6/5): Avoid room 22 - Room 22 is a comfortable, cosy (not cramped) room that would be perfect if not for the noisy ventilation ductwork mounted directly outside the window, it partially obstructs the view to the inner courtyard and runs from 5am ish to 10.30pm ish. It woke use every morning! and made it difficult to get to sleep before it went off in the evening. The shower controls are very stiff and you can choose between very very hot with a good flow or low water flow at a reasonable temperature. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is excellent, best monk fish we’ve ever had, I can only describe it as like eating a cloud. Superb. This is a high cost, high class, lovely hotel that could urgently do with a new carpet on the main stairs and the cost of a cooked breakfast should be included in the booking charge. It’s petty to charge for the cost of a cooked breakfast.

Restaurant staff do need to practice their hospitality skills and not make it so obvious that when people want to eat that it’s an inconvenience to them. The room was really nice but perhaps don’t start playing music so early in the lounge as the rooms above get to hear every beat and at 7.30 in the morning this isn’t ideal. But above all very pleasant stay.

- ozzyprice (6/5): Over rated and very disappointing. - Met by unfriendly woman at reception , who said, rooms ready , here's the key its up there. Very small bed in very dated room. Even though we had paid for breakfast , you had to pay extra if you wanted anything cooked, other than that it was a small cold selection. This is so outdated and very annoying considering the price of a stay here. Unimpressed with our overall stay , dont recommend and wished we had stayed elsewhere.
- CareBearAdventures (8/5): Good stay - Had a nice 3 night stay in Montagu Arms. Staff: helpful when needed. No toiletries in the room on arrival which was quickly remedied. I was given incorrect advice that I had we had to drive to the motor museum when it is possible to walk on a well-trodden path. Other than that, all info shared was spot on. Room: Compact and clean. Everything you need. Room was outward facing so there was a little traffic noise in the morning, nothing compared with living in a big town though. Hotel: is traditional coaching house style, curtains and carpets on the landing were getting a little tired but these are expensive items to replace, I’m sure it’s on their to-do list for next year. The gardens at the rear are lovely, great for an aperitif or afternoon tea. Highly recommend you spend time there. Breakfast: good continental options. I thought it was a bit stingy to charge for hot items, £5 for a boiled egg or small portion of scrambled egg is excessive. I’m sure it was in the small print for the B&B room rate that hot items were extra but I must have missed it. The server should make people aware of the extra charges again just before they order. Parking: had no problems parking at the back. Well lit and always space, even in high season. Overall it’s a good base. May return in future.

From the gorgeous location, beautiful gardens to the friendly staff, it's the perfect spot to unwind and relax. The restaurant is good, but for myself, the informality of Monty's is what I prefer. The great thing is you have a choice. The rooms are spotless, beds super comfy. What's not to like?!

- paulwhittle47 (10/5): The Very Best of Tradition and Modernity - Our two-night stay, celebrating a 20th anniversary, was absolutely splendid. Our first floor Courtyard Suite Room (Pear) was blissfully quiet with every modern convenience, a very comfortable bed, and good views over the hotel's attractive gardens. Dining, one evening in the Terrace Restaurant and one in the almost adjacent Monty's pub was just as good with attentive service and well-presented food. Breakfast is also taken in the attractive Terrace Restaurant In the centre of attractive Beaulieu village, The Montagu Arms is very well-sited for exploring the Beaulieu Estate with its amazing National Motor Museum and other attractions, and we also had time to enjoy the 2 mile walk along the Beaulieu River to to the picturesque village of Bucklers Hard - a former ship-building centre for Nelson's navy. We look forward to a return visit some time!

- T796VPpaulal (8/5): Excellent- but very expensive - The hotel is lovely. It’s beautiful and in a beautiful area. The room was great with the added bonus of air conditioning. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also wonderful - if you like continental breakfast. You have to pay extra for hot food which you shouldn’t have to as the room price is expensive enough. I’ve taken one star off for that. The room rate is very expensive - we paid less to stay in a four star hotel in central London overlooking the London Eye two weeks before, so we were surprised at the very high nightly rate. We would’ve loved to stay longer but it was too expensive to do so. The food prices in the restaurant attached are also reminiscent of prices in a London restaurant when it’s just a pub.

The hotel has the feeling of relaxed hospitality. On two of the nights we were eating at the hotel we dined in the adjoining Monty's pub. The menu was varied and interesting, and when the food arrived it was good quality and well prepared complemented by good service.

- alicebZ6068VL (10/5): Lovely dog friendly hotel - Had a fantastic stay, we stayed in the main house and our room was more spacious than we expected, the decor throughout the hotel and the building itself really characterful. We brought our dog and the hotel was very dog friendly, the staff very welcoming towards dogs and we really appreciated dog beds being provided at the pub for dinner. The food at the pub was brilliant. Only 2 frustrations - the bathroom needed an upgrade, the shower (over a bath) was poor standard and much too low. For the price of the room I would expect a nice shower and not to have to crouch down. It was also very disappointing to pay twice for breakfast. We booked with breakfast included but this is only continental, we were told it was a "small surcharge" for hot breakfast but it was £12 a head. Continental is worth £13pp. We didn't have the buffet as we wanted a cooked breakfast and so it was £25 each. It was not up to the same standard of ingredients as the dinner at the pub. I'd suggest increasing price by £20 instead of leaving guests feeling they are paying twice for breakfast. Regardless of this, we had a fantastic stay.

Our room was charming, the gardens were beautiful, brimming with colour and with little surprises like a lovely quiet reflective space. It's in a great location (close to the Pig/Limewood/Golf/motor museum), the room was spacious and beautifully decorated and most of all, the staff are really friendly, helpful and accommodating. It was all the little treats (champagne in the room for my husband's bday, bottles of water when you leave etc) that made it extra special. We had supper at the bar next door and again the staff were super and the food, excellent. The hotel has a great ambience, the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We ate at Monty ‘s next door and had an excellent meal. The Continental breakfast buffet was amazing with a wide selection of good quality produce, again the staff were lovely. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would stay there again

The hotel is very beautiful with very helpful and friendly service. We stayed in the Hayloft - two adjoining duplex style suites in the garden that was ideal for us as a family. It was lovely to walk out each morning into the very pretty gardens. We didn’t have our dog with us but the hotel is clearly very dog friendly and it was nice to say hello to various canine guests! And to cap it all we had regular encounters and a fond farewell from Dexter, the resident feline :-) Would highly recommend.

- felixr624 (10/5): World class service, old world charm. - A brilliant stay in a brilliant hotel. Old world charm with world class service. We stayed as a family of four and spent two nights relaxing, eating and drinking. We came home relaxed and refreshed . Would definitely stay again. Would highly recommend.
- robfurnell (10/5): Luxury Stay For Young Families - We stayed in one of the Courtyard rooms and it was perfect for a couple with two young children. It had a gorgeous bathroom complete with his and hers sinks. Everything was done to a high spec and it was great to be able to sit at the bistro table and order room service after the kids were in bed. Continental breakfast in the morning was more than sufficient, and I especially enjoyed the unlimited barista coffee. The staff were all very friendly and all the little details around the grounds like the mindfulness space are nice to explore with the little ones. The village of Beaulieu is a picture perfect postcard village and this hotel is right in the heart of it, with a very enjoyable 2 mile flat walk to Bucklers Hard, completely off road. We look forward to returning!

- R6078DJritah (8/5): A lovely hotel with marvellous staff. - We were extremely lucky with the room that is shown - a courtyard suite and one of the best rooms we have stayed in. Unfortunately the shower was a complete disaster on 2 nights. I tried it first and it flooded the whole of the bathroom floor and my husband blamed me for using the hand shower. However he said he would use it the next day and believe it or not, the same thing happened so we had to mop up with our towels. The next day it was rectified and the waste was completely blocked with - can you possibly guess, dog hairs. We were told that people use the showers to wash their dogs in. How disgusting. The hotel is dog friendly and everything is provided, even a dedicated washing area for dogs. The other disappointment was the fine dining - we had my husband's 89th birthday meal but no staff - they were all rushing around because a wedding was taking place. But fine dining - no - our first course was SCALLOPS plural at £18 each. It appeared to be one scallop cut into 4 pieces. And one of the guests - a middle aged man - came into dinner in shorts!! However at 89 and 90 the staff were very considerate and helpful to both my husband and I. Hopefully, we will make a return visit in the not too distant future.
- Curiosity62349169776 (10/5): Fantastic ine night stay - This was the perfect place to stay after party celebrations on IOW. The accommodation was comfortable and if a high standard. At all times all staff members were friendly and made us feel very welcome snd nothing was too much trouble. A beautiful haven to relax in and feel special. Would certainly recommend.
- vickiym (10/5): Beautiful Hotel - book your stay! - A beautiful hotel nestled in the New Forest, I loved my stay! I wish it had been for longer. Luxurious and welcoming, this is the place to come to explore Beaulieu and the surrounding areas. My room was cosy, comfortable and the bed was bliss to sleep in! My room was situated so as not to be overlooked and it was very quiet too. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I appreciated the fruit and water for my journey home on checking out. This is a gorgeous hotel and I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of coming to the New Forest for a break. I hope to be back in the future.
- richardkP8537RS (10/5): Our stay was beyond expectation. - A very warm welcome. We didn’t take up the offered upgrade as our room was delightful with a big 6ft very comfortable bed, a walk in shower overlooking the beautifully tended quiet garden courtyard through a magnificent Magnolia tree. Dinner in Monty’s pub next door again was friendly with good service and excellent food. Dinner in the hotel was extremely good. Delicious. We sat outside to enjoy the exceptional hot weather. A wedding was taking place but did not in any way impede our experience only to recommend what a lovely venue to get married in. We can’t wait to return to perhaps cosy fires in the autumn/winter. Lots to do nearby. Buckler’s Hard and Beaulieu National Motor Museum. Ponies, donkeys roam freely in the New Forest. A joy. Relax and recharge.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Outdoor seating area was peaceful and well kept Continental breakfast was very good. Would definitely recommend a stay if you’re in the ‘forest’
- U165VNrobertc (10/5): Perfect English country house hotel which delivers at all levels. - A too short but first rate stay at this extremely well run and first class hotel. Set in the New Forest on the south coast of England we found the hotel provided a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Set in the village of Beaulieu we found the staff to be friendly and unobtrusive, always attentive and polite. Our party of 6 all agreed the food to be well presented, tasty and extremely enjoyable. Assistance was always available by the well trained staff whose positive can do attitude ensured any and all requests were quickly and efficiently resolved. Rooms are very comfortable with tea, coffee and water readily available. Suitable for short or long stays as well prefect for a pre or post cruise stay given its close proximity to Southampton the UK’s major cruise hub. A gem to which we will shortly return to.
- TomLuchetti (10/5): An oasis waiting for you.. - An excellent choice to get a taste of a non overly-t ouristed area near Southampton Cruise terminals, but far enough away to avoid crowds. Highly recommended for pre or post cruise stays. Staff were ALL excellent. Beautiful gardens throughout.
