- Verified traveler (10/5):

- mrstsh (10/5): Excellent lakeside onsen hotel with delicious dinner - We had a very wonderful stay at the hotel.
I first would like to thank the staff of the hotel. They are friendly, helpful and thoughtful in providing services ranging from picking us up at the bus stop, providing transport information to serving breakfast & dinner.
Our room, as well as the onsen inside, has a stunning lakeside view. The room is spacious and clean. It was enjoyable seeing the beautiful lakeside view while sitting relaxingly on the massage chair.
The western dinner using seasonal local food was very delicious and impressive. To me, the quality was comparable to or even better than those served in some one-Michelin-star restaurants.
The breakfast was not as good as the dinner, but the view of the restaurant in the morning was amazing.
I particularly like that the hotel is a small one, so there were not many tourists around. We could enjoy a quiet environment.
I definitely will stay here again if I will visit Lake Shikotsu again in future.
- IOK CHAM (10/5):

- SF (10/5): - Helpful and attentive staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- SIU HUNG (8/5): - Italian dinner is pretty good except it does not have ice cream
- treetop193 (10/5): Perfect - Right by the lake , as clean as you can imagine , private onsen , Italian dinner , waking distance to some local shops and amenities , walking distance to a big park where you can stroll for an hour or so . Best place to unwind after ski
- Lake (10/5): - Delicious dinner. Very clean. Very beautiful. Love this hotel and shall return.
- Mike (6/5): - It’s not worth to me.
- joseph_jk_lee (10/5): Great Experience - Why should you stay at Ryokan? You should go here. I loved a lot this place. food, Onsen and service were totally amazing although the room was little bit old but still clean and well-organized. Italian course dinner and breakfast with the local ingredients and materials were amazing. I felt that Japanese culinary culture get its huge competitive edge from their local food ingredients.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel asked the time you arrive beforehand and drove you from the bus station to the hotel, as well as back to the bus station after check-out.
The hotel was near the Ice Festival Site, about 5-min walk. Besides, the hotel was 10-min walk from the restaurants area.
The room was facing the lake and there was an indoor onsen in the room. Guests could enjoy the view while bathing in onsen.
Guests could also reserve an outdoor onsen for an hour. We recommend reserving the outdoor onsen in day time since we saw nothing but darkness when we went to the outdoor onsen.
Dinner was Italian style while breakfast was Japanese style. We enjoy both meals but we love the Japanese style breakfast more.
We will definitely booked the same hotel next time.
- E (10/5): True paradise - Our second visit to Suimeikaku. We visited last year and this time we brought two other friends to join us. We all share the same wonderful experience as last year. Perfect getaway.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice view, the hotel is just next to the lake. The service of staff is very good and the environment is very relaxing.
- LAI LING (10/5): - Great food, great service!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hotel Room next to the Lake. Nice view.
Tasty food with excellent private hot spring.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything is excellent!
- Not Provided (10/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5): Paradise hotel - I had a fantastic time in this Villa. Villa place right in front of the lake, beautiful lake view from each rooms. This villa only have 8 rooms, all rooms face to water. And the bonus giving free 1 hr private onsen. Highly recommend this villa.
- A (10/5): Perfect lakeside location and excellent service. - Nice refreshing stay after landing at Chitose Airport for start of journey around Hokkaido.
Cozy onsen hotel with western style dinner of gourmet standard.
- HappyHippieInAsia (10/5): best Ryokan experience - My husband and I stayed here for my birthday, and we had the best experience. The ryokan is located right on the lake is so so relaxing. We enjoyed strolling around the quaint little area by the lake, hiking, and bird watching. The food in the restaurant is some of the best food I have ever eaten in my life! It's Italian fusion and there are so many delicious and beautiful courses. The staff at the ryokan were so kind as well. On the night of my birthday they brought us out a special birthday dessert. We enjoyed the private onsen and relaxing in our room. This was probably the most relaxing vacation I've ever had. Thank you for such a wonderful experience and for your kind staff!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lake view villa - We loved the hotel very much. The food and everything were great. It is worth the price. They will pick you up from the Shikotsu Lake bus stop. They will serve you delicious breakfast and dinner during your stay. Their outdoor onsens are beautiful and have great views. You will also get a great view from your room. The indoor hot tub is also great. Everything is so clean. And the staffs are very polite and friendly. They only have a few rooms in the entire villa, you will definitely get your privacy while using the outdoor onsens at the villa. Although winter sceneries are great, I would recommend to go there maybe during early May when it would be spring weather there. You then get to enjoy the whole lake, park without snow covering up everything... I would go back there again if I ever go to Hokkaido again. I think it is great for family or for couples. It is also English-speaker friendly. It was a great experience for me.
- Osu (10/5): A real hidden gem in Hokkaido - Heavenly paradise. From cosy hotel design, to excellent serving staff and micehelin class dinner. It totally exceed our expectation overall.
Dinner at Azurro is a highlight. It matches or even outshone those niseko Michelin rated restaurants I have tried in the same trip.
The onsen water quality is another plus. You can feel it is real good stuff the moment you touch the water. Very different from other onsen resorts which just give you 42 degrees hot water, but you don't get the smoothy touch.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Ben (10/5): Real Lake side hotel - The best hotel among our 10 days vacation in Hokkaido. This hotel provide high quality of food, view, service, room condition.
- Jerry (10/5): Great hotel next to the lake - Wonderful room with onsuite onsen. Short walk to ice festival and weekend fireworks.
- Wai Fai (8/5): Peaceful hotel at peaceful lakeside - The lake is really peaceful during winter and the hotel is right next to the lake. With only 8 rooms, the hotel is really quiet all day and is a great choice for spending 1 to 2 nights. The Japanese style breakfast served at restaurant with view of the lake is great. The staff at the restaurant are well trained and polite.
- CHING HA (10/5): Convenience, excellent services & environment - Only wifi signal sometimes too weak & no wifi in room but it doesn't matter, we still highly recommend this hotel & will consider to stay in next visit.
- LiangTS (10/5): A delightful combination of the Old with the New - This 8 room ryokan is 35 mins from New Chitose Airport. Perched on the water's edge of Lake Shikotsu, it has rooms that face the lake and the setting sun.
Each room has a little onsen tub of its own that is comfortable for one a cosy squeeze for two. Rooms 106 and 107 have the tub that faces the lake and is a beautiful place to watch the brilliant sunsets that the lake is renowned for.
There are also two open air onsets that you can reserve in one-hour blocks of time. One has a zen like large wooden tub and the other is a rock pool. With the booking you can enjoy an onsen with your significant other in privacy.
Rooms are small but well designed with space for arm chairs to watch the view through a large picture window. There is also a massage chair provided. Beds are very comfortable but two twin beds rather than a larger double bed.
Service is excellent but the typical restrained, quiet Japanese type.
The jewel in the stay is the really excellent Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant run a young Japanese chef. His food used super fresh local produce prepared with the lightest sauces that perfectly balance the flavours without detracting from the natural flavours of the meat, fish or vegetables. This trip was at the end of a 3 week stay at many other high-end ryokans throughout Hokkaido and this restaurant can easily best the finest served at other places! It was really that good!
- Hotabouthotspring (8/5): Nice quiet lake side resort - Conveniently located near lake cruise centre and park. After many days of kaseiki, appreciated the French fusion cuisine catered to dietary needs. Enjoyed the private baths a lot. Wi-Fi however is very spotty and unreliable. Small hotel and room decor can be improved to be more modern with better shower fittings. Hotel can also go extra mile to offer snacks desserts life tsuruga.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- NancyNancy13 (4/5): Bad beginning - Even my holiday didn’t start it yet; I have no good feeling about this hotel.
I make a reservation through ‘Expedia.com’ and will stay 6 Days 5 Nights at ‘Lakeside Villa Suimeikaku’ (in the middle of April, 2016). I choose this hotel because I saw so many articles praise this hotel on ‘Tripadvisor’. I know this hotel is a little bit pricey but just because I want to have a worthy and fantastic holiday (like the writers on ‘Tripadvisor’ said), I don’t mind to spend a fortune on this hotel.
Last day, I email the hotel and told the staffs that if they would help me to prepare a birthday cake for my friend (I told them I would like to pay it on my own). Beside that, I asked them a few questions about the meal time and the parking issues. Unfortunately, the staff replied was so cheerless, not helpful and impolite. It is so disappointed that I gave a really big hope to have a wonderful holiday at ‘Lakeside Villa Suimeikaku’. But now, I have no good feeling about it.
I hope that it is just a communication misunderstanding.
I will write an article to update my empirical again once I arrived at ‘Lakeside Villa Suimeikaku’.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A great spot to relax in Hokkaido - A beautiful place on a beautiful lake. Very relaxing with two outdoor Onsen that you book upon arrival, as well as a private (smaller) Onsen in your room looking out on the lake. Phenomenal food with a stunning view of the lake and mountains. Not to be missed.
- SolonLeung (10/5): Great lake view! - The other reviews have mentioned the great view, services of the staff there, Onsen and massage chair so I won't repeat here. You can walk by the lake and enjoy the scenery around there. It's a small district with a few stores and restaurant. It's worth to have a relaxed holiday for one day. Better drive to the hotel.
- KKYP (10/5): Exclusive. Luxury. - There is a bus from Chitose Airport to this area (Shikotsuko). Hotel will provide pick up from the bus stop and will send you to the bus stop on your departure.
The Hotel only have 8 rooms. The room is big and a private onsen bathtub in each unit. A massage chair in each unit. Good lake view.
This hotel provide great Onsen experience. There is 2 private outdoor Onsen for private booking. You will surely be able to book a time to enjoy it as there are only 8 rooms in these hotel.
Food, very good. Dinner included, western fine dining. Breakfast inclueded, japanese traditional meal. Good environment, good cook, great taste.
It's pricey, but worth for the money for such great experience.
- ShanshanHongKong (10/5): Onsen with great lake view - We stayed 1 night here and it was great! We drove about 3-4 hrs from Hakodate that day and were pretty tired on arrival. Went in the onsen straight away and it was so relaxing soaking in! There are 2 outdoor onsens with lake view and with each stay you can book 1hr private use of each onsen. Both are terrific (one with wooden bucket, another natural stone pool) and the lake is so tranquil and ethereal at sunset. There is another onsen in the room which you can enjoy at anytime. The massage chair in the room is also fantastic!
Dinner and breakfast are included and the food are delicious. Beef steak just melt in your mouth.
A bit pricy but worth it! I couldn't find English website of the hotel but managed to book it online on the official Japanese website by guessing... But did confirm the booking by email in English and you don't have to pay any deposit.
- O883BVpetert (10/5): Best hotel experience ever!!! - The hotel is very clean, room is well kept with an exceptional view! Food was excellent and staff very friendly. On the night of our arrival, my 12 yr old son was still jet lag and did not go to the restaurant for dinner. I told my server that we'll eat dinner without him. At the end of the dinner, they specially prepared a delicious and beautiful Benton box of Italian food items (all prepared to suit my son's Dairy and Egg allergy!). I am so impressed and touch that their staff can pay attention to such details.... I am truly grateful to each and every staff on site who made our stay such a wonderful experience. Last but not least, the hot springs (both in room and the outdoor ones) are so relaxing too! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for true relaxation and superb services.
- aunpam (10/5): the chosen one - First of all,we candidate this with another hotel nearby.it's quite pricy, but finally we thought it's worth to pay.
Location is excellent, just a few step to lake shore.it's a bit difficult to drive to villa because most street in Shikotsu onsen are walking street,we park our car in parking area, walk to the hotel and ask staff how we can drive here ,he told me just hand him our key and he drove for us,,that the first impression.
2nd,you can enjoy your welcome drink ourdoor with a nice view
3rd,about dinner, very impressed meal, japanese chef can surprise you by Italian food.I musr say fusion food .
4th,very nice and privacy outdoor onsen.
5th,Facility in room, and every details they made.
Now I'm waiting fo breakfast tomorrow!!
- robert240 (10/5): A beautiful, lakeside Inn with exquisite food - This Inn is on Lake Shikotsu in Hokkaido, and each of the eight rooms has an unobstructed view of this beautiful lake. The area is very peaceful, located in the National Park and a small resort village with a few Japanese restaurants and shops selling Hokkaido products. The Inn is very tastefully decorated, in a mid-century Danish modern style. The room was spacious, and each room has a giant stone tub with hot spring waters. There are also two, outdoor onsens, that you can easily book and use in private. Ah, but the food is the star! Amazing Japanese breakfasts, and Japanese-accented Italian meals, exquisitely prepared. The service is impeccable throughout, even with our lack of Japanese, and the staff's lack of English. I cannot recommend this place enough!
- CanYY321 (10/5): Great escape from city - We stayed at the hotel for 1 night but wish could have stayed longer. Each room offers hot spring water which suits people feel embarrassing for going to public bath... and the view over the lake is stunning. Dinner is served with delicate French cuisine and it's probably the best French food I've ever had. Not very easy to commute in public transport but the hot spring resort offers free shuttle from Sapporo. A little bit pricy but definitely worth the money.
- TA209 (10/5): Serenity now! - This is the most tranquil, picturesque, exquisite property, with 8 rooms. Each room has a hot spring bath, flowing at all times, and as a germaphobic person who never gets into baths or public swimming pools, even I had to enjoy the natural goodness of this stone bathtub with the most luxurious water. We only stayed a few days but felt like we had stayed for a very very long time--- time tends to slow down. Total serenity!
- Sharka (10/5): Quiet, magical place for relaxation - This is an alternative ryokan... the interior deisgn is mostly modern chic (but it does have 2 private onsen) and it serves French food for dinner. I can't say I've had the best French food there ever... but several of the dinner dishes are on par with the food I've had at Le Bernardin in New York. The chef uses all Hokkaido ingredients which put a special twist to the food. The hotel is right by the lake and it draws onsen water to the private bath tub in your room. It's cute to soak in your own tub and open the window in the bathroom at night - you can hear the waves in the lake and smell the fresh winter air, and yet still being in your room at the same time. This is a super quiet hotel, with only 8 rooms and adults only. Really close to the Shin-Chitose airport as well (only 30 mins drive away). A great place to end our Hokkaido trip!
- dollydarling (10/5): Joy of Silence - It is my third visit to this lovely lake side hotel.
What makes this small hotel (only 8 rooms) so special and are: wonderful location by the lake wth the view, the quality of the hot spring water(onsen!), the quality of foods - Authentic French dinner and traditional Japanese breakfast - both with rich local cooking ingredients, and attentive staff. It is quiet - no kids allowed.
If you want to enjoy the private time, with someone special, or even alone, If you want to just relax away from your busy life... it is a perfect place to be. Whenever I leave this place, I find myself very refreshed and feeling so happily tranquil. It will be a special and very Hokkaido-ish experience.
I suggest you visit with your Japanese friend, to make your stay easier.....
