Guest Reviews
- Melissa (2/5): Pay a little more than what it’s worth - Customer service was friendly. Rooms were terrible, dead frog by the bed, hot water non existent, fridge didn’t work.
- Chris (6/5): - No tv channels...terrible antenna. stained and/or burned sheets
- Chris (10/5): - Room was OK, area around lot was unkept.
- Talal (4/5): - Not clean
- alva w. (4/5): - Old, old! Paint pealing. Nothing good to say.
- Arlyn (8/5): - The staff was friendly and helpful.
- Daniel (2/5): Overall a pretty terrible terrible stay - It wasn't filthy,
but:
- The front desk was never staffed (one key left with my name and room number on the counter)
- so we never had wifi (never saw an employee)
- breakfast area is tiny, and the juice machine and coffee maker both have "out of order" signs
- there's a coffee maker in the room but no coffee or filters
- tears in fitted sheets
- hard, uncomfortable bed
- two thin, hard pillows
- there was a plastic bag over the smoke detector
- there was bird poop all over the sidewalk outside our door
Maybe the weirdest thing at this mostly abandoned motel with only two truckstops to keep it company:
There was a creepy guy parked in the parking lot, who came over to me to ask if I had already reserved my room (which I had just used a key card to get into.) he didn't respond when I politely responded "yes, I do have a room, why do you ask?" but simply asked the question again two or three more ways. His truck moved around the parking lot several times, and was still parked there in the morning. Seemed like maybe he was hooking.
Absolutely would just keep driving in the future.
- Aristeo (2/5): - I made reservations for this location while on the road, when we arrived at the property, there was no one, no one attending the front desk, we tried to call the two phone numbers we had for the property, and no one answered at all, we had to make reservations in another motel down the road.
There were only three to two cars in the parking area, in the office they had
- Joshua (4/5): - Room was dirty sheets were not clean smelled of urine..
- Tom (8/5): Great stay - For the price this place was amazing. Hot water, A/C, king size bed, clean linens. I even got a microwave and refrigerator. For the most part the room was quiet except for the birds in the morning but that didn't bother me much. It's not a place for everyone but for the price and a one night rest it was great and I would stay again.
- Thomas (4/5): Wouldn't recommend. - Reserved king and it wasn't avaliable, had to settle for 2 doubles. We veiwed 2 rooms to accept that one. 1st one wasn't even cleaned. The bed were not comfortable. Pillows were small and should be replaced as well as the stained sheets. I wouldn't stay here again. The lady at the front desk was pleasant and did the best she could with what she had.
- CAROLYN (6/5): - Wasn't a nice room like other America Best, looked and was a cheap room, but had to get off interstate cause of a windstorm coming thru . Served the purpose , but didn't know Where to go or stay cause tv was telling you to take cover and the wind was REALLY blowing.Mgmt didn't say anything. Left the next morning as soon as i could . Wouldn't stay there again.
- Milagros (2/5): - Acabo de llegar y hay un aviso de que está cerrado no nos quieren atender llamamos y nada. Queremos solución por favor estamos dentro del hotel y no sale nadie a atendernos decía que había habitaciones disponibles
- Jacob (2/5): No hot water - No hot water, room had almost no outlets, the bedside lamps didn't work right and the AC only worked occasionally.
- Sue (2/5): - I booked online and it took 1/2 hour before the hotel received the reservation. The hotel is old, not updated, not kept up.
- Kim (8/5): - We checked in at around 9 pm, not a sole in site. So I called the number on the sign and the lady told me to a certain room key. I never saw a person at all. The lady on the phone was friendly. No ice machine or coffee..
- lisa (8/5): - Good mice people
- Michele (2/5): - No heat not clean no alarm in room
Door handle broke
Terrible conditions
- Stephen (4/5): - This place is nasty and not worth the money left early because of the bugs and the smell.
- Anna (8/5): - Very courteous staff
- Rusty (10/5): - Great ownership
- Terry (8/5): - Decent stay
- John (2/5): - front desk looked nice & clean, but it stops there!!!
got to our room, piles of bird droppings on the walkway outside of our room, we got in as like we always do check the sheets & mattresses, & bugs started running out!!!!!!!
went to the front desk, and informed them of this, and he asked if i wanted new sheets? i asked him what good would that do??????
i told him that me & my other traveling family would be leaving!!!!!!!!!!!!
- MARCY (2/5): - We decided to go a little farthur so we booked for 1st time. We just wanted to get in. Go to bed and wake up and go. It was clean but no vending, no ice, not even a bucket. Told to go to Truck Stop and buy my own ice. More expencive than our unual Super 8 Ogalalla, NB. Next to truck stop noisy with trucks going buy all night. Lot of construction workers staying long term to work on road. Outside making noise drinking and having a good time. I like a good time but we were there to sleep and go early.
- Charlie (10/5): - The gentleman managing the front desk and customer relations with kind, professional, and extremely helpful. Although this is an older hotel that needs a little TLC all I needed was a warm shower in a comfortable bed. In the bonus was the gentleman at the front.
- Jean (10/5): - Great people friendly yet remodeling it!
- Krysdianna (4/5): - The room I was checked into wasn’t what I had payed for because the manager was away on a trip so the man he had checking guests in wasn’t aware of what to do , I payed for a king bed room and got a double bed room when I arrived inside the room was dirty and seemed to only have had the bed made over the last person to stay bad stains on sheets as well as old underwear an water bottles under bed , room had strong smell as if it had been smoked in even though it is a no smoking room I booked not sure what I got placed in.
- Marcia (4/5): - Wife found little red bugs on the bed. Not sure what they were
- james (2/5): - Rooms were horribly dirty non smoking room smelled like a smoky bar stained towels and sheets I’ve been in some rough rooms but this was the worst ever
- Mary (6/5): - No one was at the front desk when we arrived. Had to call motel to speak with someone, he was not even on the property would not be back for at least 15 minutes. The least he could have done was left a note on the door stating when he would return.
- Jason (2/5): - Didn’t get the room we reserved. Lamp shade was broke, hole in the wall and areas were dirty
- Chelsey (8/5): Okay - Room was clean and staff was friendly, just what you’d expect from a roadside motel
- Sally (8/5): - We were in a pet friendly room. The floor had dried dog pee by the bathroom door. A better job of mopping would have fixed that. Otherwise, the room was clean and beds comfortable. We were traveling with a dog, and there was a grassy area with clean up bags provided.
- Richard (10/5): - This motel is a hidden gem. Owner lives on property and maintains it well. Clean, quiet and right off I/80 within 1/4 mile. You won't regret your stay.
- Magnaiduuren (2/5): - It’s worst to me because whether is extreme cold outside room was to cold heater is not good working i fell uncomfortable sleep, and no hot and cold water, toilet water is frozen no water i not gonna staying that motel
- Adam (10/5): - Property was clean and quiet, rooms were recently renovated, and the manager was friendly and kind.
- Christine (4/5): - nothing
- Sergio (10/5): A comfortable night - The wife and I were just tired and for $60, it was perfect for just an overnight stay. Check in was super easy and quick, front lobby was clean, the room was clean and comfortable, and the shower was hot. Woke up refreshed and ready to finish the drive home.
- susan joy (2/5): - 👎 nothing
- David (2/5): - This was the nastiest ,dirtiest place I have ever stayed in
- april (2/5): - The carpet was gross under your feet. We had to have shoes on the whole time. The bathroom wall had something all over it. The bathtub was not clean. There was hair in it. The ceiling paint was falling off. If it wasn’t for a late night arrival and a non-refundable fee, I would have left instantly. I’ve never been in something so gross.
- Rex (2/5): - There was nobody at front desk. Keys left at desk with self check in for anyone to take to see. Do not stay here
- Daniel (6/5): - This hotel should not be listed on Expedia. It is way below minimum standards for listing. Some problems noted were: littered parking lot, shower was dirty, hot and cold water faucets were reversed, no cable, television would not turn off, air conditioning did not work, cigarette butts scattered, overflowing trash receptacles, coffee in lobby which staff could not get to work, and general overall rundown conditions. We most definitely would never return. We have been to many lower rated hotels, which turned out to be totally acceptable, but this hotel was not at all. The only positive thing was a clean comfortable bed.
- Chris (2/5): - When I initially entered the room, a rat ran from the middle of the room to behind the dresser. When complaining to the desk attendant, she thought nothing of it as if this was not the first time she heard this complaint. She gave me another key to another room, when I entered it was already occupied. 3rd room I rcvd I felt very paranoid. Room, outside area was filthy, nothing in the area except a truckstop. DO NOT GO HERE
- Kevin (2/5): - Dirty room with peeling wallpaper and what looked like mold, rickety toilet, limited towels that were threadbare, tv barely worked as well as the heat, cracked sagging ceiling, no coffee or hairdryer in room, they state they are pet friendly but charged more than the room fee for a pet. Would not recommend this place!
- Randy (4/5): - Bed box spring broken.
- Russell (10/5): - .
- Hutho (6/5): - There is nothing unique unless the high price that is not supposed to be for that little motel.
- Frank (8/5): - The staff was very friendly and kind. The motel is older but the room had some recent upgrades. No ice machine. No breakfast.
- Laron (6/5): - Its ok
- Verified traveler (6/5): Go a little farther and stay in another city - Unfortunately the room was filthy. The shower had fresh soap laid out, but there was a used soap and conditioner and wash rag on the shelf in the room. The lining on the fridge in the room had mold all over. It's a cheap hotel, but I'd have expected it to be even more cheap for the conditions of the room.
- Sharon (8/5): Bare bones but better than expected - This was a single-night crash stop on a LONG drive across the US. It was literally the only thing we found at a point where we had to rest... and I admit that when we pulled in I had some trepidation. This is your old-school trucker hotel - a roadside stop with little fluff.
That said, we actually had a good night's sleep and no issues with the property. The person at check-in was very nice and gave a warm welcome. The room was super basic, but very clean. It was all we needed, and we had no complaints.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Fácilties not maintained properly. Rooms needs extensive work. Ceilings falling and Micky Mouse job done to fix. Had few but bites.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The bed was comfortable but only a thin layer of sheets. The whole room was filthy and there were flies and mosquitos in the room. Ac worked. No cups for water or coffee, limited towels. Wont come here again.
- David (4/5): - The manager was great, super helpful. However, the property is in poor condition and in need of a lot of work.
- Shaun (4/5): Disappointed traveler - Room was dirty. Dirty walls, dirty tub, socks from a previous tenant on the floor. Honestly we wondered if they hadn't just made the beds and changed the soap after the last guests stay. No working wifi and tv picture was fuzzy on all but 2 channels. Way overpriced for what we experienced.
- Marnie (6/5): I'd stay again if I had to, but... - We arrived at 10pm. Someone was sent to clean our room. The best I can say: the staff is nice, the bedding was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The hard surfaces had been cleaned. Beyond that: the furniture desperately needs shampooed, the air fresheners almost covered the smell, the whole room could use a deep cleaning. I'm hoping I just got a bad room.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No coffee maker in room even though we were told there was, no washcloths, cold and hot faucets mixed up, not all lights worked, TV didn't work, patched walls were not painted over, no kleenex. Bed was fine.
- Vance (8/5): Better than expected - Perfect for what we needed to do. Just needed a cooling off and to rest.
It wasn’t the in perfect condition, but the rates were perfect, so….. it was clean, the staff/owner were very hospitable and it was quite.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This hotel is disgusting!! The hotel is old and run down and very dirty. The walls were supposed to be white but they were so dirty in places (like around the doors and door knobs) they were practically black. I dont think the light switches have ever been cleaned. There were bodily fluids dried on the bathroom wall and looked like someone had picked their nose and wiped it here and there. So many bugs. Some sort of egg sacks hanging from a web behind the bathroom door. Tiny tv that did not work. I could go on and on that is how bad it was. This is the first time i have ever written a review. This place was so bad I felt I had to warn people about it. Avoid at all costs.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Weekend stay - Pretty rundown and not in a great location but I guess that’s what you expect for the price!
- Patrick (10/5): More than meets my Needs - When I do a dive weekend at Sandy Channel, I always stay here. For my needs, a comfortable bed, hot shower, good ac/heat and perfect location, Sunset Inn can't be beat.
I've stayed here multiple times and the staff is always super friendly, professional and courteous. Are the rooms 5-star? Not even close. Paint peeling, missing trim, patched holes...its all there for you to see but who cares? You are in Elm Creek, NE. This has all the amenities (minus food) for a good night's sleep and that's what I'm looking for.
The friendly staff alone is reason enough to come back. They are good people and just trying to run aa business in the middle of not a whole lot.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - From what I could tell in the morning
It was auctioned off and was in major need of repairs
- Jose (8/5): - Nice warm place with hot water, fridge and microwave. Friendly people. I stayed there twice. Thanks you.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Location, room conditions and not fully cleaned that earn this score. The parking lot was worst part
