Guest Reviews
- Randi (8/5): - Perfectly serviceable for our one-night stay. Carrizozo is a tiny town with very few services, but we were not looking for much. We had to be out and on the road very early for the Trinity site open house, so I don't think we were in this room for a full 12 hours.
- Joseph (10/5): - A lot of bugs, roaches & flys in room
- Tracy (2/5): Crooks - I booked a room online. Paid the full amount. When my guys got there they were charged $90 because it was only booked for 1 adult. Yet, when i went back and added a 2nd person online it only went up $10. So, we were charged $75.00 + an additional $90 for 1 extra person! How does that make sense?
- Daniel (10/5): - Rooms feel very clean and no strange odors. I was able to go to bed without feeling itchy everywhere wich was great to get a good night sleep.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Quirky little old fashioned motel - This is old school (like 1950s motor-hotel). You park right in front of your room. Many of the features of this motel are just like motels used to be. It’s designed for driving in, sleeping, and leaving. No pool. No breakfast. Key entry.
The office is closed. You have to cross to motel across the street to check in. Staff is friendly but hard to get if you have an issue.
The room a little tight with two beds but not unpleasantly so if there are two of you (4 would be a squeeze). Bathrooms have been recently renovated with rainfall showers heads (note: my son is 5’ 11” and he said he didn’t have much room to spare so folks an inch or two over 6 foot might have issues). Rest of the room hasn’t been updated for decades (which is shabby or charming depending on your POV). Room was clean but not spotless. A few flies but no other bugs.
I slept well but the noise of the window AC unit kept my son awake. I found the sound of the unit helpful as you are close to a busy road. Bed was hard but not the worst.
If you can’t stand the thought of going another hour or two to a larger town, the inn is a quirky place to stop.
- Judith (8/5): - Confusion from what was pictured online and actual accommodations. Hotel is aged but was clean!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean spacious room
- Michelle (10/5): - Very nice staff & room very clean. Railroad staff loves this cute place.
- Sheryl (2/5): - When I made reservation it said they take service dogs When I got there they transferred me to there other property and I did not get a king size bed. Which my service dog is a Great Dane and sleeps with to alert me if I have drop in my condition and sleeping in a smaller bed is very inconvenient and the TV did not work and no one was available to help. I would not stay here again Do not recommend
- Tadson (6/5): - WiFi was not available; had to go to the neighboring hotel to check in… the office and “gift shop” was closed the entire time.
- Brett (8/5): - Nice touches in the bathroom area with beige towels, rolled in a basket. Nice mirror. Very comfortable bed with nice spread rather than comforter. No kleenex. Parking in front of unit.
- David (10/5): - Old style motel in a wide spot in the road. Large clean room with updated bath, mini fridge/freezer, microwave, and cable. Good place to wind down after a long drive.
- Dale (6/5): - Check in was across the street at another hotel, needed to go to other hotel for normal amenities - ice bucket and ice for example.
- Darlene (4/5): - The clerk was very confused and was not clear about things with me. He told me that I would have to take up my issues with Expieda and not him and I said I would. Then he just kept on making it difficult. The room was very nice and clean and comfortable.
- thomas (4/5): - Had to go across the street and check in at another (seemingly better) motel and wait for someone to open the office to check in. After I checked in, a group of gang member looking housekeepers and their friends all watched as I walked to my room. It was very uncomfortable.
The carpet in the room had a big stain in the middle that im hoping was red wine, and had about a dozen dead beetles and a dead scorpion next to the bed. My wife pulled the covers back on one of the beds and there was a live beetle in the bed.
The door lock was old and flimsy and someone could easily kick in the door. We barely slept because we were worried about out truck getting broken into since there was no fence or gate around the property and the train that runs behind the building came by at least every hour. Also, the direct tv box had no signal so no working channels on the tv, i tried everything including changing the input settings and unplugging and plugging back in. At least there was coffee..
- Gary (10/5): - Don't be scared off by the exterior. It is rather run down and badly in need of paint. But the rooms have been nicely remodeled and most importantly everything worked (A/C, hot water, sinks drain). The rooms were clean and it was quiet even with a large family next door.
- Justin (10/5): - This motel is a great deal for somebody or a couple visiting the area. It isn't fancy, but it is clean and simple and reasonably priced.
- Craig (10/5): - This was a great little motel. Spotlessly clean and quiet with very friendly staff. A good diner right beside that served great food.
- Samuel (6/5): - The woman who seemed to be running the property was great. Very friendly and helpful. The property however was lacking. Only one dining option in the town on a Monday night and it was not great. It rained and the room nearly flooded because of water runoff from the parking lot. Located very near a gas station and you could hear the music/announcements from the gas station in the room.
- Robert (4/5): Rainbow Inn Carrizozo NM - The room was clean and neat, snd roomy. The hotel needs to do lots of exterior work, paint ect. Manager was curt and unfriendly when i questioned my roon rate. Not what i agreed to on line.
- Peggy (10/5): - Very kind owners. Clean rooms
- Peter (8/5): - Nice place in a convenient part of NM
- Anthony (10/5): - Just an nice, comfortable, easy, quiet place to stay for a night.
- Mark (6/5): - O one at Rainbow Inn was there. I had to cross the highway to Carrizozo IN and check in there. Got the wrong type of room and charged $20 more than listed
- DAVID (10/5): - Functional, clean rooms. Pleasant manager.
- Michael (2/5): - Could not get to motel, walked across street to motel where there was a note to cross the street to a different motel for check in. Room was cold but warmed up, bed is good, bathroom not good.
- Erhard (8/5): - A good hotel for the budget conscious traveler.
- Becky (2/5): What hotel - Open sign on... no one comes to the door when I knock. Sign says to cross the street to Carrizozo hotel, which at a big construction site for the whole intersection. It is now past 10 pm. and dark, and it is hard to maneuver the intersection. Portable street light is like 15 wait from each direction so I walked over. Carrizozo hotel, sigh says open, but now one comes to the door when I knock or push the door bell. Must have pushed it 10 times at least. And knocked at the door, the side window and back door of the area of the registration. NOTHING. I call the numbers on the Carrizozo hotel and the Rainbow hotel. Talked with a man from the Rainbow number who said someone should be at the Carrizozo hotel. I told him no one answered, He said he would call back. Of course he did not. What a mess. Two hotels with OPEN light on, but nobody home and nobody taking responsibility on phone. The rest of my attempted calls which went to voice mail, which of course was full and could not receive any messages. I was told by a person on site, a renter, that the same situation occurred earlier in the evening.
- Delbert (8/5): Satisfied. - Room was good and spacious, shower, toulet and sink functioned well, had refrigerator microwave and tv and coffee maker. The beds were firm and clean. Noted some expired bugs but no live ones. Overall, a decent place to stay.
- ROSANA (6/5): - Good for the price.
- MONICA (2/5): Disgusting - It was horrible. As soon as we walked in it smelled of mold or wet towels. There was no hot water. I should be reimbursed because we didn't stay. We immediately booked another hotel.
- Robert (8/5): Convenient & comfortable - Very convenient amenities in large and spacious room. Only drawback is the bathroom which doesn't have anywhere to place shaving kits. Also sink was very lopsided and in need of straightening. Other than that it was clean and comfortable,
- JULIE (8/5): Pet friendly stay - After just having stayed in Amarillo at the worst motel ever, this place was heaven. Friendly person who checked us in and pets were allowed with a $10 fee.
- Melissa (8/5): Run down outside but nice rooms! - Approaching this motel on our road trip to move across country, I was very hesitant about staying there by the looks of the outside. However once we met the owner (who checked us in), we knew he recently acquired it and was making improvements. Inside the room was great! Bathroom was remodeled and nice! Rainfall shower head and all! The bed was fine, and the AC worked great! We walked across the road to restaurant there and it was delicious! I definitely recommend staying if you’re passing through!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Old motel - It was an old motel, very hot and took A/C forever to cool it down. fridge did not work. roach walking across floor as packing to leave next morning.
- MaryEllen (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable stop at the crossroads. Newly renovated, new mattresses—brand new bath and shower with great water pressure. Very friendly and helpful couple running Rainbow and Carrizozo Inn across from each other.
- Larry (6/5): - everything was OK till shower time. No, (very little) water out of shower head.
- Brandi (6/5): - The staff was great- We had to go through 3 rooms- the fisrt smelled of smoke and cover up and no smoke alarm - The second was ok but their was a smell- we opened the fridg- leftover food and two cokes in the freezer that had exploded inside. The thrid room was better the beds are old and not comfortably.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice place, friendly people - Nice remodel. Very clean rooms. I was worried that there would be traffic noise but it didn't bother me at all. Need was a little hard but other than that the place was great. I'd def stay there again!
- WILLIAM (10/5): - Loved this property. Clean, renovated and convenient! Highly recommended!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was very friendly and helpful. Everything was extremely clean.
- David (8/5): - Ok
- Paula (6/5): - The room was very clean. The shower was excellent.
The bed was not comfortable and the room could use some sort of room darkening curtains.
- Jeana (8/5): Inexpensive Inn in Carrizozo!! - I was a solo traveler during a slow season, so I was a little nervous being the only guest. However, that was in my head because nothing was going on to make me nervous. Would have been fine if my husband was there... the town is next to a train track, so there are a few trains in the middle of the night, but not the hotels fault. But cost was best in town, I think.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay! - It
- Richard (6/5): - This property was over priced for the quality of the room and the availability of dinning places.
- David (8/5): - Older motel but recently redone bathroom. Great staff.
- Maria (10/5): Diamond in the rough - This place does not look like much from the outside howevfrom the outside however inside it was super clean look like fresh paint and wallpaper tub was yeah super white everything was really really clean loved this place is especially for the price. Would stay here again!!
- Kristen (8/5): Cute little Inn - Quiet and clean little place. Great customer service. Highly recommend for the price we paid.
- Kara Steele (10/5): Carrizozo Bound - Excellent 5 stars! We will stay here every time we are in Carrizozo NM. The manager / owner was very nice and accommodating. Highly recomend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and quiet; good basic accommodation.
- Zhiwei (8/5): Great value - Great value .bed is comfortable
- Nerica (10/5): Review - I enjoyed my stay the room was exactly what I expected. The room and the bathroom was clean! The parking on site was convenient!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean room, comfortable bed. The restaurant next-door had really good food.
- David (10/5): Rainbow Inn - I’ve stayed at Rainbow Inn many times when in Carrizozo, NM. The rooms are always very clean and the staff and ownership are excellent.
- Joseph (8/5): Great Night Sleep - Stayed one night. AC worked great, room was clean and smelled good. Bed and pillows were comfortable and I slept well.
- Patsy (10/5): All American Labor Day - The room was nice and big and very comfortable
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet and very relaxing rooms. Only drawback was no easy available breakfast
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was about what I would expect of a little dust bowl of a town:) Old but clean except for the one dead bug on the floor. Better dead than alive I guess. Heater was pretty loud but kept the room warm. Bed was comfortable.
- Steve (8/5): - Older hotel but very clean, staff nice and helpful, everything worked, would stay again
- Julie (10/5): - wonderful quiet rooms, very clean, pet friendly and a good price. easy access to any where you want to go.
- Amy (10/5): Great room for price - Overnight stay during bike rally. Arrive late, left early. Reception very nice, room very clean. Simple accommodations. Will stay again.
- James (2/5): Ghost Town - When I booked I was told their was only 1 room left. when I arrived the place was vacant sign on the door said to go across the street which I did and immediately cancelled. The place looked like it was abandoned, nothing like the pictures on the web site. Charged me $55.oo to cancel which I paid, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
- Vicky (8/5): - It was good for the money
- Bruce L (8/5): Rainbow Inn motel in Carrezozo, New Mexico - We stayed one night -- 23 June 2018. The Rainbow was a good value for the money. The room, although small, was spotlessly clean. There were a couple of minor annoyances. The window shade and blinds were adequate to prevent anyone outside the room from seeing anything inside the room, but they didn't block the outside light from the parking lot. (We prefer a dark room for sleeping). Also, not being an electrical engineer, I never could figure how to make the television work. Otherwise, it was fine, although the motel across the street (which is also affiliated to the Rainbow) might be a better bet. There isn't much in Carrezozo, but the Four Winds restaurant, adjacent to the Rainbow, is a good place to eat and is open seven days a week. .
- Maritza (10/5): New Year,s Eve stay - We were a group of 13 people staying at this hotel for two nights from PR because were went to Ruidoso to ski. It was great. The rooms were very clean with a great smell. The rooms had fridge and micro. It's a quiet place. Has just in front where to eat which I highly recommend. I strongly recommend this hotel.
- Tippi (8/5): Decent hotel for the price - We couldn't find a hotel room around Christmas so we took our chances with this $50 a night hotel. I was worried about the quality of this hotel because of the price. I was pleased with my stay overall. Darla the housekeeper, does a great job of keeping the room clean. However, she forgets to leave coffee in the room. Forget contacting the front desk for anything. No one answers the phone. The air conditioner works well and there is hot water for the shower. The bed is not very comfortable but it is acceptable. The hotel offers a TV, Refrigerator & Microwave which is great. There is NO hair dryer in our room so I had to buy one. Check in is done at the adjacent hotel, the gentleman was very friendly but a bit slow in getting things done. Things are done "old school" style, the hotel guest ledger is written in paper - definitely technically behind. Hotel is located in a remote, in the middle of nowhere area but I felt adequately safe and it is quiet. There weren't very many guests around X'Mas time so we felt good about this. One thing that concerned me is "who" would be staying next door to us at this $50 a night hotel but because the hotel had low occupancy during our stay, this added to a feeling of safety. It might be better to bring your own soap, shampoo and conditioner which I did, because theirs don't look so good. The dead bolt is broken, which was a bit of a concern. Overall, it is a decent hotel with an excellent low rate.

- Janet (8/5): - Convenient location and perfectly adequate. Somewhat noisy from road traffic.
- K. (8/5): Trinity Site Visit - We were going to visit Trinity Site (1st atomic bomb test) which is opened twice a year to the public. Carrizozo, NM is 53 miles from the entrance and had last minute lodging available; closer towns were full. Rainbow Inn & Cottages was a good place to stay for an early start to Trinity Site. The motel has been painted fairly recently, has clean rooms, comfortable beds, good shower water pressure, thick towels, heat and air conditioning, friendly staff. See other reviewers notes for other amenities. The only negative depends on how sensitive you are to noise as trains and highway traffic (not controllable by the motel) and a window type air conditioner (same sound level as most) are noisy. Ear plugs would be a good idea. 2 restaurants, with long hours, are within a block or less.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Decent place to stay - I stayed on a weekend and didn't arrive until after midnight. You have to go across the street to get the key from another motel. I didn't get to go inside the store because they were closed on Sunday... bummer. But the shower was seriously amazing! I never once saw or talked to anyone that actually worked there...
- Dale (10/5): - Quiet - nice
- Juan (10/5): On a business yrip - It was quite place was well maintplace would stay. If am in the around the area again
- Kim (8/5): quiet, easy access, away from town - It was good.
- JON (10/5): - best choice for an overpriced town
