Guest Reviews
- Joseph (10/5): -
- Janaka (7/5): reasonably okay - everything old building needs renovation
- Back (8/5): You get what you.pay for. - No ac during a 90 degree spring heatwave!!. But i was able to open all of the huge windows and get a wonderful yet hot breeze. The old timey elevator was a hoot. Heat wave not the hotels fault. Its global warming!!!
- carlos (5/5): Hotel muy antiguo habitaciones ok! - Ascensor muy antiguo
- Vincent (10/5): - Friendly atmosphere
- Vincent (10/5): Nice affordable Hotel - Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
- hamza (9/5): -
- Zuniga (1/5): - Nothing. It’s Old. Scary. Falling apart. If you know SF it’s in the tenderloins. Enough said.
- Jeffrey (7/5): - Limpio y acogedor. Demasiados homeless en el area.
- Dywain (8/5): Short but convenient stay. - The accommodation was of walking distance to most of the places that I were venturing during the weekend. I had to change rooms due to how slow, water in my shower was going down the drain.
- Virginia (8/5): -
- Wise (1/5): Absolutely the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at - That I had a place to sleep Everything the place was disgusting and infested with roaches and the staff was very rude
- Stanislava (10/5): A very pleasant experience and will highly recommend it! - Location, style, settings. Next time I’ll try to choose a room with a view!
- David (6/5): -
- Kimberly (10/5): - Wonderful family owned hotel. The TL or tenderloin neighborhood is San Francisco can always be a bit sketchy, but the city seems to have cleaned up in the last couple of years. This is an old hotel which I’m sure if the walls could talk would have quite the stories it has one of the oldest elevators in the city, which is really cool. I would definitely stay here again and it’s a great hotel when you’re on a budget.
- Pablo (10/5): I love the building, it feels like you are in a piece of history, the views are amazing and they do good on keeping it c - I love the building, it feels like you are in a piece of history, the views are amazing and they do good on keeping it clean, safe and affordable. I can’t complain
- Scot (10/5): - Nostalgic old Hotel,Amazing ambiance,comfortable rooms and super friendly staff…
- Solomon (10/5): - “From the moment I stepped into The Admiral Hotel, I was enveloped in a serene, eco-chic oasis that felt like a love letter to Northern California’s natural beauty. The lobby, adorned with reclaimed redwood and a living moss wall, immediately set a tranquil tone, with the scent of clean air offering a refreshing escape from the city bustle.
- Nancy (9/5): -
- Nancy (9/5): I always feel welcome - Its close to our jobs
- Sayed (6/5): - Ok
- Rika (10/5): Excellent. - Staff, its bathrooms, the cleanliness or its rooms, its vicinity to eateries and public transit. Nothing.
- Alison (10/5): The admiral stay - We spent 3 nights here in the middle of San Fran. Everything we wanted to get to was walking distance (10-15 mins will hills) or easily accessible to transit. The owner was friendly and I loved the vintage elevator and staircase, truly felt like a nice historical setting while the rooms were modern enough with nice big windows.
- KANO (4/5): -
- Nancy (10/5): Exceptional - Nothing I didn’t like about it.
- Dexter (9/5): Unexpected gem - Was originally concerned about the location, but it was very safe and secure. My room was surprisingly clean and updated considering the age of the building. Even the elevator (manually ran) showed the building's age. I thought that was cool. There wasn't anything to dislike...
- PRAVIN (10/5): - Nice hotel
- Sai (6/5): Pleasant -
- Constanza (4/5): - Very dated, shabby and noisy. Hotel is in an area that at night is full of homeless people and it’s dirty and feels unsafe. Police noise, music and yelling throughout the night. Room was clean but very dated and unkept, sheets and towels were clean but bed cover was stained, chair was old, bathtub looked bad. We only stayed one night because it was too late to change. Checked out the next morning. The rating of this hotel should not be anywhere near 6. This should be a 3 at max. Do not recommend.
- Robert (8/5): Pleasant little hotel in the Tenderloin - The Admiral is a delightful old hotel in the Tenderloin. The neighborhood is pretty awful, but the hotel is pleasant, clean, safe, and affordable. The staff are friendly and helpful, and I loved the room. It is an older hotel, but freshly painted and very clean, and I loved the mid-century furnishings. Very retro! The elevator is a bit strange, but once you get used to it it is fine.
- Michael (8/5): Great value if you are short on money - Central to many great restaurants and easy access grocery marts. Area is bad - tweakers galore, human feces in the sidewalk, screaming until midnight.
- Valerie (2/5): - It's the tenderloin. Cockroach in the bathroom, that I smashed. Other bug in bedroom...not sure what it was. Too fast. Couldn't smash.
Two girls kicking each others butts in room next door to me at 2am. No phone in my room conecting to front desk. Called phone number on website. Told me it was local problem. OMG! Finaly...someone came to break it up...2 hours later. Thank goodness. Horrible experience.
- Minjie (7/5): Just so so. - The price was relatively low compared with other properties in the DT of SF, and the suite was clean and comfortable in a whole. By the way, the elevator was quite impressive, so old-fashioned that I even didn’t know how to operate at the very beginning. Since it is situated in Tenderloin, the ambient environment is inevitably a bit noisy. In the midnight I could even hear some crazy people roaring on the street.
- James (8/5): Great value, place a bit dated but has old school charm - Nice bright room with giant windows
Staff very friendly and onsite Tenderloin area is a bit sketchy
- Evgenii (6/5): Цена не соответствует качеству. - I liked the vintage vibe in general! Cool old elevator, wooden garbage chute doors, cool beautiful spiral staircase! All these details give a special atmosphere! I didn't like the lack of a sofa or at least a bench in the hall, I had to hold my stuff in my hands when checking in. I also didn't like the quality of the renovation in the room, the quality of the painting, the quality of the sanitary ware.
- Joanne (6/5): Clean and tidy, area is intimidating - Very secure, staff were helpful Very dated, struggled when the lift didn’t work. Area isn’t desirable
- Mauricio (7/5): Nice for place for my needs. - The staff is good and help in my requests. But the overall is fine for the price I did pay. The room is clean and shower is very good. The neighborhood isn't that good, but this is San Francisco situation. The elevator is kind of the old model, not that secure. The room is big but old and the floor reflects sounds, and you walk, and if you have upstairs people walking a lot you hear.
- Etresia (7/5): Sufficient - Room size was good, and it was fairly easy to locate. The linen was stained and there were a lot of homeless people in front of the building. Also there was a lot of street noise audible at night.
- Gabriela (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kairo (6/5): Pleasant -
- Victor (10/5): - Great property for central location in SF. The front desk guy was very nice and helped us with our food delivery when we were stuck in traffic ! Great place and cool old school elevator !!
- Paige (2/5): Worst customer service I've ever gotten in 41 year - Honestly, you couldn't pay me to stay in this hotel again. Manager was extremely rude and disrespectful to my wife, screaming at her over our 17 year old son showing up and staying the night. Kept our deposit without any valid reason other than our kid being in the room with us without putting him on the reservation... Although he watched him walk into the building with my wife. If I could rate in the negatives I would.
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional - Super clean room and very friendly knowledgeable staff
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent staff, very clean facilities
- christine (8/5): - Service is good and kindness is very good.
The hotel is located in a typical urban ambiance. Don't expect the firemen trucks to be quiet ! Ear plugs mandatory.
The Tenderloin area is not for basic travelers. It has been like this for ever. 2 blocs away it is a completely different world.
We recommend the hotel for its good price/service ratio.
- Charlyn (6/5): - My reservation wasn’t supposed to be prepaid when I booked it! Especially since the card used for the reservation did not belong to the person staying in the room. The intention was to switch the card at check in, or check out time. But since it was prepaid. It could no longer be changed. As for the staff or cleaning person, one of two medications went missing, and never reappeared, and they were required for existing medical conditions.
- David (8/5): It was good except for when the front desk guy chewed me out. Yeah you gave me two keys but only one fob key. So I had t - It was clean and quiet. NC
- T.l. (9/5): Probably the best value in downtown San Francisco - Very accommodating staff, convenient location. bad neighborhood
- Kei (10/5): - Customer service at this hotel was exactly what you would want, they treated us so kind and went above and beyond . Thank you
- Michele (6/5): Room was fine but they need to fix their pest problem if they’re going to be charging 100 a night - Loved the view and hanging out on the fire escape! This place would’ve been ok… but , there’s a roach problem and the floors are filthy. But other than that.. the front desk was nice enough to provide us with their broom and mop as well as some raid so at least that :) they also tolerated our late checkout so that was nice.
- nathan (2/5): - Worst option
- T.l. (8/5): If you can tolerate the neighborhood and the old elevator, this is a great value. I'm returning - Great staff, clean & comfortable room.
Has TV, cable, microwave, frig. neighborhood
- Marissa (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Dinesh (5/5): Location near Union square but in Tenderloin, Good size rooms, but lack modernity; staff is good++ - Location and Room. Very near Union Square, big size room and nice & friendly people. It's in Tenderloin district and hence lots of noise of poor homeless people all night. Facility was not so clean and well equipped
- David (5/5): Just adequate, a roof over my head. It was a value stay - Price Location, cleanliness, terrible wifi with no password.
- Khurram (4/5): Disappointing - Location. Cleanliness. Someone was constantly kicking and knocking in the room above. Street was busy and noisy.
- Alifia (8/5): Very good -
- Rakesh (10/5): It was nice stay - Location Very near to my conference venue
- Emmanuel (5/5): Passable -
- Peter (7/5): A good stay in a bit of a rundown area. - Big room with fridge and coffee making facilities. Extremely helpful and friendly person at the reception. Couldn't do enough to help out with anything and everything. The area is a bit rundown with a fair amount of homeless people occupying the streets.
- Derek (3/5): Not good, but not the worst. Hopefully they can invest in some new comforters. - It’s in the Tenderloin, but it’s a pretty quick walk pretty much anywhere. It’s old, so you don’t expect a ton, but the cleanliness was below par. As soon as we got i. Our room, we saw a giant stain on the comforter. We were on a tight schedule and couldn’t do much about it, so we checked out the next morning. The front staff, who are polite and friendly, didn’t seem surprised.
It was also cold at night. Felt like the heat didn’t work.
Also the bathroom towels, we had one towel for two adults. Easy fix, but there’s a reservation for two adults, lol… put two towels in the room?
I can say, other reviews online about roaches were not our experience. I check every place for bedbugs and Admiral Hotel seemed clean in that regard. I checked drawers and under sinks for roaches or bug husks… nothing. If they had clean sheets, we would have stayed.
- Alberto (7/5): Good - comfortable claner spacious room
functional bathroom
good service in the room (TV, mini fridge, microvawe) old strutture
noise in the street (despite the soundproofing of the room)
not good neighborhood (so much homless)
- Anonymous (6/5): Accepted - Good Homeless all over the place
Low stander enterance of hotel
Bad smell from addict material
Low level worker
Noise street
- christopher (8/5): Admiral Hotel - This is a no frills type place so consider that when booking. Staff was very friendly. The hotel is over 100 years and you will know it but I kind of like that. This was the only place I could find within the government per diem rate. Everything else was 3-4 times more expensive. Homelessness and drug use is pervasive in the area and you will see zombies in the streets and tent encampments unfortunately at this time, however none of them bothered us or caused any concern for our safety. There is a convenient store right on the corner which is great for grabbing snacks or drinks and the bus stops right across the street.
- Zachary (10/5): Exceptional - It was very good must stay here it's really good the other reviews don't do it justice place was clean all the time. Area is sketchy but remember homeless people are people to. You will be fine it's not the Hilton but great value for money Nothing everything was perfect for me.
- Lam (9/5): Superb -
- Ange (7/5): Good -
- David (5/5): Passable -
- Mikayla (9/5): Superb -
- Hagay (5/5): Passable - The location was ok. It is close to the center and public transportation. The place is old and not taken care of.
There is a foul smell in the public areas.
Too many homeless people living nearby the hotel.
- Bob (4/5): No pets allied BS - Biggest complaint, hotel information stated no pets allowed. There were dogs in other rooms that were constantly barking. Hotel staff notified. They said there was nothing they could do about it 😡
- Sarawut (7/5): Good -
- Helen (7/5): very pleasant, friendly and accommodating staff. comfortable and clean room - friendly and helpful staff.
generous size room with microwave and coffee facilities there were some items left by previous guests in the bedside table. not pleasant
uncomfortable walk for a couple of blocks due to the area
- Jaffar (6/5): Pleasant -
- Phil (7/5): Tenderloin area hotel - The hotel was near enough to the city and transport options. Public bus stopped across the road from the hotel as well.
Rooms were of good size, with appropriate amenities.
The lift was old- we were happy that this has not been replaced or updated. The level of noise from outside at night was distracting.
The hotel area also felt a little "risky" at night; we generally ensured that we were indoors before dark.
- Kevin (7/5): A Pleasant Value Facility - Rates are competitive. The property is rustic and mostly well maintained. Staff was friendly. Furnishings were adequate. Location is convenient. Radiator in room subjects guests to extremely loud flushing noise at all hours of night. Sound proofing against street noise (which is extreme in this area) is either non-existent or insufficient.
- James (10/5): - To be perfectly honest, when we arrived at the hotel. I was a little sketchy. Looked rough outside and even in the lobby. Once we were buzzed in (security), the staff was very welcoming. Gave us great information. This is a very old apartment building with a 40’s style elevator. The room was clean and had everything we needed. There is no AC in the hotel. Remember you are in San Francisco, it really doesn’t get hot. People open their windows and have fans circulating the cool air. Overall it was a great stay.
There are several small markets and restaurants close by. The shop people are extremely friendly, they all made us feel welcome. We were obviously tourists.
- Vasudha (7/5): it was very good - staff was very cooperative Lift was not working well
- Edward (6/5): Comfortable room in an old, worn out hotel in a bad part of town - Bed was comfortable. Bad part of town.
- Stig (8/5): Satisfied. - Very friendly and service minded staff. -
- Kelsey (4/5): - Not a great neighborhood, people revving their engines, blasting music and yelling at each other outside all night made it hard to sleep. The room cleanliness was ok (although there was one cockroach in the bathroom) but the hallways and stairwells are super dirty. Will not stay again.
- Amanda (6/5): Pleasant - Nice and friendly staff and central location. Rough and noisy neighborhood
- Frijole (10/5): Cute vintage hotel, just don't hang out outside - It was a really cool old hotel, had an old elevator and everything. Right beside it was a bodega. The rooms were clean, bed was comfy, the staff was friendly. The location was a little sketchy but it's not like we were just hanging out outside so it didn't bother me so much. The water temperature was difficult to regulate since it kind if depended on the use of water from other guests.
- James (2/5): Very poor - The bath towels were ripped. The bathtub was chipping
- Joseph (8/5): - Convenient location close to Union Square. Not in the nicest part of San Francisco. Hotel however did the job, it was clean and functional. Staff were helpful. Close to trams and cable cars. Quite noisy at night so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper! Good value for money.
- Claudia (4/5): Dissapointing - Good location The elevator did not work nor did I want to use it because it was a very old elevator that did not give me confidence; It is also important to mention that the building is very old and the worst of all was that they never turned on the central heating on a very cold winter night, I even asked for it but it did not happen.
- Alperen (6/5): Old but ok - The rooms are large enough. Windows leak air.
- Dalziel (8/5): - The Admiral is budget hotel at the edge of the Tenderloin. For what it is, it is very good.
The building is over 100 years old. Windows don't always shut all the way, the elevator doesn't have an automatic door, there is exposed conduit in the hallways, the shower faucet leaks. Etc. It's not Hilton.
BUT, the owners have put love in, where it matters.
My room (#62) was newly furnished and painted, and exceptionally clean. There was a large desk. A modern TV with many channels. Soap, shampoo, and clean towels. A fridge and a coffee maker, with free coffee.
Were there strange howls from the street corner at 3 AM? Yes. There's also a midnight Taqueria and a 24 hour convenience store across the street, only a 5 minute walk to BART, and only a 10 minute walk to the Moscone Center, where I was attending a conference.
The concierge called in advance when it seemed I would arrive late (delayed flight), helped me get the elevator to work, and made sure I knew how to check out early.
Would I stay here again? Certainly.
- Jorge (10/5): Exceptional -
- Villarreal (2/5): Very poor -
- Sharon (1/5): Bad -
- Flavio (7/5): Good - The guys are awesome! Neighborhood is dangerous
- Bobwho (5/5): This is the Tenderloin District and is not for the faint of heart. - Literate staff was able to clearly cope with written correspondence and reliably negotiate an after normal office hours arrival time and check in. Very reasonable pricing with no surprise costs or fees. I admire the courage and challenge the ownership and management face in operating in this neighborhood. Located in the bowels of San Francisco's Tenderloin district. Bathroom had no running water on two occasions that I wanted to shower in the afternoon. Cockroaches greeted me upon arrival, but did not appear much. The TV had an annoying satellite tuner system that was a nuisance to operate in any way. The place needs a lot of work and is not safe for children due to ongoing and incomplete renovation process that will take quite some time.
- Adel (1/5): It was a nice stay but lots of noises around the area, wherein you can't get enough sleep and one i - The place is not secured cause anyone could enter the premises without having any businesses there. Anybody could just enter when they know they are following somebody who's got the key to the door., like what happen on the early hours of our departure, somebody got in take my hand carry and drove off with the uber car terrifying all of us , thereby prompting us to call the police. We have to wait until police got hold of our luggage, but we lose money and my jacket. Management should know somebody is checking out, and they should supervise the health and safety of their clients. Security should be managed.
- Rohit (10/5): Exceptional -
