Guest Reviews
- Amber (6/5): - Room was dirty, slightly overpriced
- Ryan (6/5): - The Southern Inn was an affordable stop on our long trip. The room was clean and the bed wasn’t uncomfortable. The room did smell very musty and even with the AC running the room was humid. There was a fly strip hanging from the ceiling which was not appealing at all. Overall for the price I would stay again if passing through the area. Is it my first pick for a top notch hotel? No, but for what it was it worked.
- william (2/5): - This place was fine, except no hot water would come out of the shower, even though there was hot water in the sink
- REGINA (10/5): - It was very comforting sleeping in the super clean king bed. The air conditioner was very cold but adjustable. Older property, but well maintained. Hot shower was nice. Fluffy bath towels. The lady maybe the owner was super friendly and congenial. We would go back. very close to I-95 easy in and out.
- Heather (10/5): - Friendly staff. Clean room. Nicely renovated inside. Easy access off Interstate 95. Good price. Numerous places to eat and shop within a short driving distance.
- keno (10/5): - The room was great, the tub was awful it would stop up during the shower..the manger he was creepy and tried to tell me how to park my car..but overall stay was ok
- Mary (6/5): - It was outdated. Suspect area. It was clean. No breakfast.
- Yumiko (8/5): - Comfy bed
- Charles (4/5): - Property has gone downhill since last time I stayed there.
- Jerry (8/5): - Everything was as expected. Just that we had a non-smoking room but the smell of old cigarette smoke lingered in the room. Turning on the air conditioning did hell
- Donald (8/5): - I felt that the hotel and area were nice and quiet.
- Emily (10/5): - Great value for money! Property is older (and shows slightly), but VERY clean and the staff is pleasant and helpful. Very convenient location as well.
- Alexander (8/5): - I have a Tesla and was passing through to NC from Florida so the on-site charging station is the main reason I booked this hotel (for the first time). Staff was very pleasant but the check-in took longer than usual. Most hotels that offers EV charging are free but this one charges $9, which is not unfair but they should put that in the listing. I got only one face towel and NO tissue, not a big deal but should improve. My biggest problem is the TV. It's a nice smart TV but we can watch Netflix or any streaming, because the remote limited us to DirecTV which I never watch. It doesn't cost the hotel anything to allow guests to use the streaming function, so I can't understand. Please make changes.
- Joey (8/5): - Friendly staff, quick check-in, requested room location granted, and patking was well-lit and safe.
- James (8/5): - If you book this place, you have to keep in mind you get what you pay for. Inhave stayed here multiple time when traveling from MD to FL to visit my son in college as Lumberton is halfway. When I stay here, I am literally looking for a place to sleep for 5-6 hiurs before getting back on the road and it is perfect for that. The rooms are clean, but simple not fancy. The decor and paint jobs are dated. The price is right if you are looking for a no frills get in sleep and get out stay. I have enjoyed usong this hotel for that purpose.
- Nancy (6/5): Any port in the storm And we didn’t see any bugs. - Clean Enough but could’ve used more supplies like more towels, soap at the sink And perhaps a rug at the door to wipe our feet. We Did arrive during the midst of storm, Debbie. Front staff woman was Very congenial.
- Michelle (8/5): - Property was clean, older, but decent. We only needed to stay one night. Staff, only met/saw one gentleman, and he was very pleasant.
- Tyrone (8/5): Moving towards higher quality... - For the price, this Motel does its job. The place seems a bit run down, however it seemed as though the owners are really trying to improve their efforts for their customers to have a pleasing stay.
The only thing I can really complain about is the Check-Out is 10AM, where as it's previously stated as 11 AM. There is a $10 charge per hour for late Check Out. WHICH, tbf, is worth the extra sleep sometimes.
Overall, for a Motel, I've seen MUCH MUCH worse. And the people were nice. And efforts are actively being made to imrpove the quality of their rooms.
- Kenneth (10/5): Good place to get a night sleep on the way. - Just an place to lay our heads for the night
- Cindy (10/5): - Staff/owners very friendly and attentive.
- pauletta (8/5): - It’s an older hotel that has had upgrades to the room. We were comfortable the one night we stayed. The heat/AC wall unit was much quieter than most are in other hotels. The door lock was somewhat broken which made it hard to latch.
- philip (6/5): - The property is of course convenient to I-95. There are food and gas nearby. The rooms though are very dated and show tons of wear and tear. The floors were dirty since my new and clean flip flops made black marks on a tub towel I decided to see if the floor was the cause and yes a wipe of the floor with a napkin made it black. Also the owner asked to make sure we wouldn't smoke which is great unfortunately the smoke would have made the room smell a bit fresher...bring lysol..
- Hilal (10/5): - Like this
- Matthew (10/5): Above and beyond! Thank you! - A medical emergency put my wife in the hospital near them. They went above and beyond to ensure that I was well taken care of. In order to get my car home, I had to arrange for a pickup from a vehicle transport and they not only kept the key but gave me personal information so that they could make sure that the right person was getting the car. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
- David (10/5): - Interior was nice and friendly staff.
- Jarl (10/5): - When driving up and down the east coast, we make a lot of last minute reservations. Was warmly greeted. The bed was clean and comfortable and the shower was hot. There’s a lot of these little hotels that get new life. The southern Inn met our needs. I’d consider it again.
- Michael (10/5): - Clean and very affordable
- Devan (6/5): - Expect to be called an smoker right time you walk in, most rude place ever
- Al (6/5): - Was having trouble with the key cards, room 206
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, recently updated, inexpensive. Great for overnight stay on the way home.
- Se Young (10/5): - Good place to rest
- Anne (4/5): - It was basically a rundown hotel
- Ralph (6/5): - No heat in a large cold bathroom. Almost impossible to control the heating/cooling system for the room.
- Nicholas (8/5): - Everything was fine my only complaint was the stall/slightly musty smell but other than that it was good
- Gregory (6/5): Not what we expected from the reviews - Check in took 1/2 hr with one person before me, plus i had to go back to office to give credit card info, even though I already paid online plus a $40 deposit saying we wouldn’t smoke in the room. She was very pleasant though. Hair dryer plug was broken and cord was very dirty. Ceiling needs repaired, they said they are waiting for a painter. Socks very dirty from walking on floors. Bed was ok, on firm side.
- Terease (10/5): - Staff very kind attentive and efficient. Room was comfortable and clean. I slept well. I would stay here again
- Sherri (10/5): - Front desk gent quite pleasant and helpful
Check in and out a breeze. It was a quick overnight while traveling from fl back to ny. Bed comfy, large fridge and microwave in room. Clean.
- BILLY (10/5): - All good
- stephanie (10/5): - The room was spotless. Check-in was quick and easy. I was pulling a trailer and she helped me figure out the best place to park so that I felt it was safe for my belongings and not in anyone's way. Would definitely stay there again.
- Jeremy (10/5): - Great find just off the highway. I don’t know what all the bad reviews were about, but that wasn’t my experience.
Clean, friendly, clean, the owner was very kind and welcoming. It’s obvious they are trying to improve on those bad reviews… did I mention clean?
I’ll stay there again.
- Harlan C. (10/5): - Sam was really helpful and accommodating. I applauded him in a previous survey.
- Robert (10/5): - Convenient to rte95 restaurants around area
- Lori (10/5): - Everything was fine the room was clean and spacious
- Kathleen (6/5): - Check in was personal and very friendly. Room was very clean.
- Anthony (8/5): - Staff was friendly, quiet, clean. The room was spacious.
- Verified traveler (8/5): heading down south - Loved ot, however i did not realize therr was smoking rooms. So next time, now i no
- Marilyn (10/5): - The property was clean and the room was clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
- Lester (2/5): Disappointing - The sheets were not clean and the plaster on the ceiling was cracked, there were only two towels in the room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A positive review from a grateful traveler - A wonderful place to stay! Clean and safe!
A good night's sleep! Wow, plush towels.
Friendly, southern hospitality. Clean, clean, clean!!!
I will stay here again, for sure.

- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff was really nice. Location is good and close to many restaurants.
Cleanliness was a bit of an issue. In the first room I went to, I found what I believe was a cockroach. I brought the owner so he could see it.
- thomas (10/5): Will definitely return! - Check in very friendly man, very clean, comfortable, will definitely return again! Stayed at many hotels to and from traveling northeast to Florida, and this place right off 95, and great for overnight stay. Thank you!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I requested a non smoking room due to having 2 special needs children and guess what the room that I got was supposedly non smoker and the first thing that hit me when I enter It was the tabaco smoke smell. We couldn’t get other room supposedly because we where in a non smoking room if it where stars rate I would’ve gave it the biggest 0 ever.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The first room they gave us was dirty, with sand on the floor and hair on the bed. The owners/managers were understanding and gave us another room that was clean. Nice people.
- Jill (4/5): Only if you’re desperate - In the 90’s outside and no AC on in the room. Broken door lock. Tissue stuffed in peephole. Hair on bathroom floor. Loose fixtures. Bedsheet with cigarette burn right in the middle. Rough old towels. One coffee pod. Certainly not worth $100!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s close to the highway and very easy to find with parking in front of our room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were kind and the room was clean.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The staff was plenty nice. The place itself is very suspect. The room is newly renovated...but, honestly, the SMELL alone had me ready to get back on the road..the floors were filthy and it had me question everything there. If you need a couple of hours of sleep, sure stay here. But bring your own: soap, bleach, lysol, wipes and stay alert.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I was very surprised by the quality of the rooms and the cleanliness. Was unpleasantly surprised about an extra 40 bucks they added to the credit card for a non-smoking room which would be credited back if the employee agrees that nobody smoked in the room.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Terrible place if your traveling to rest people playing loud music in parking lot screaming going on.. not a nice place
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was just ok
- Teresa (2/5): Worst hotel ever!!! Don’t ever stay here! - The stay was absolutely horrible to the point I booked some where else! Had bugs coming out the sink! Then tried to fight my husband in front of their office had to call the cops!!!! Demanded my service dog car and took photo of it! Said owner demands to see it! Which of course we had our credentials! Just terrible!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was great except for paying extra because they didn’t offer smoking online.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Don’t waste your time or money! - Hotel is perfect if looking for a pay by the hour place.
Raining when we arrived, parking lot had ankle deep water & needs repaving.
Clerk questioned if the ID & credit card I presented was really me. Also repeatedly asked me if i was trying to bring a pet into the hotel. I responded each time no, but he felt it necessary to keep asking.
Room we were given smelled like mold / mildew. Drawers appeared to have food crumbs in them. One of the double beds had hair in it when we pulled covers back. This room did not have any individual soaps or shampoo provided. There was a container of soft soap on the counter that looked like water had been added to so it would last longer. Anyone could have tampered with this since it had a screw on top. Bathroom in terrible need of updates. There was a wall mounted shampoo / soap dispenser that does not lock. Anyone can open this dispenser and tamper with the contents. These type of dispensers are normally locked so they can’t be tampered with by guests. Who has such things for guests to use during a pandemic? Many of the electrical outlets do not work.
Hotel is located very close to interstate so it will be hard for you to get rest if you are a light sleeper. Room had regular curtains so allowed a lot of light in room so it was hard to sleep. Ice dispenser located in a way that when it is used it sounds like a snow plow coming through parking lot.
We witnessed the owners calling customers crazy!
DO NOT STAY HERE!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Just fine, friendly staff, clean room kept neat, safe area.
- Bradford (8/5): Low cost, not bad - It was a plenty good for a low cost stay. Glad I found it.
- Tod (10/5): Absolutely a gem in the rough? - This is an older unit but the rooms are all redone, modern, fridge, microwave, hardwood floors, nice beds. The owners were very nice, a very comfortable, relaxing night stay. Thank you. If you stay...feed the orange cat!
- Talia Marie (2/5): - Owners are very rude
- Tatiana (8/5): No frills, for the price its worth it - The check in couple Sam and Lita were so nice and friendly check-in was so easy. Once I told them I had a dog without having to ask them they chose a ground floor room for me which was really accommodating and right across from a big field which I can walk my dog on. Room was nice and clean. I would definitely come back again.
- John (10/5): Great customer service - Basic accommodations but great value.
- Jackie (10/5): A Gem - Nice and clean rooms, with a very friendly staff. I will definetely stay here again
- Melody (10/5): - The staff was VERY nice and helpful when anything was needed for the room.
- Chris (6/5): - Very basic motel for a night’s sleep. Clean and well lit. Good for me to sleep but I would not bring my family to stay. Polite staff, even though she was behind protective glass.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Overnight stay - Check in was easy. Convenient to i95 room comfortable. Only complaint was the very thin towels
- Marc (10/5): Best place to relax - Always a pleasure staying here. The people are so nice and hospitable. Room so clean and new.
- Marc (10/5): So Fresh and so Clean - Great place. All furniture was new and room was updated. Very peaceful place I got real good rest
- Cp (2/5): - One of worset hotels ever we got there and room was not even clean go into bathroom and shower is dirty and still filled with peoples other soap they brought there but left by accident. We just dealt with it because of the two kids but beyond disgusted
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean and Cozy - My overall experience was fantastic. The A/C worked like a charm and the room was clean and cozy. The closest comment I have to a negative is the shower water pressure wasn’t the best I’ve experienced but I’ve definitely experienced worse pressure. Would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Not bad.. - My boyfriend and I decided to stop on our way to Wilmington to spend a night here. Price was okay. Most of the room was updated and new.. minus the bathroom. Which was dated and needed some work.. and a little deeper cleaning.
But again, it was a last minute decision and was good for the price.
- Jennifer (10/5): very Satisfied - Very nice place. rooms was amazing so was the staff would stay there again.
- RoyPublic (10/5): - Incredibly clean, there was nothing I didn’t like! Very courteous staff (Rita), A
- Thomas (8/5): Enjoyed My Stay - With the exception of a bathroom that needed some cosmetic work, this was a very nice place. The three employees (maybe owners) that I encountered were very nice and helpful. I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The floors were dirty. The bathroom fixtures were clean, but the floor and walls needed cleaning.
- Anthony (10/5): Happy - It was great front desk clerk's cery nice... Definitely would stay again...
- Vanessa (6/5): Never again - There was pubic hair in the tub/shower, no soap or courtesy shampoo And conditioner. Comforter was dingy looking and stained. I felt sleeved but thank God it was only one night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good place for one night staying. Nice fridge, clean room. We stay there 2 times.
- Jonathan (8/5): Nice - The hotel wasn't in perfect condition but perfect isn't always better. Rooms were clean. Quite, the owners were the cutest , nicest people ive meet. Very accommodating
- Jacqueline (4/5): Basic. Served a purpose. - Check in was easy and quick. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Stressful times and looking forward to a rest before continuing our trek north. Room was clean and beds were new but everything felt damp. The room was non smoking but smokers went outside our door for a chat and a smoke on a regular basis. Some even played music while they enjoyed a smoke brake. Wifi code written on receipt did not work - decided not to contact front desk only because we just wanted to rest. Morning came and we left when we could.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A clean, well tended property with all the amenities you would need.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very helpful and friendly.
Would stay there again if I needed to.
- Robin (4/5): - Liked-Shower soap dispensers, frig, microwave
Not liked-Needed some work , esp in bathroom
- Joel (10/5): Nice for the Price - Paperwork was ready when we arrived. Extra towels and help with the WiFi were supplied quickly and nicely. Room was clean and spacious. Right off I-95. For the price, a really nice choice.
- glen (10/5): PRICE AND COMFORT EXCELLENT - rooms were nice and clean and staff was very friendly will most certainly be back
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very convenient off the highway location. Great stay for a very affordable price. King room was spacious and very clean. Husband and wife who run the place are super nice and friendly. Sam, the husband was most accommodating and went out of his way to make sure we were pleased. Next time we are passing this way, we will definitely stay again. After all, Sam is the man.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It was DIRTY and the the 1 staff member, who I believe was the manager, was rude at best. When I told him how our sheets were dirty and stained and the tub was stained and the loud piping noise was waking my 1 year old and that our room was not getting warm, he said the room was fine. He said there may be a stain, but it’s clean. I told him we couldn’t stay in the room because my son was shivering and was sitting in his car seat with his coat on. We were on the 2nd floor and instead of helping us with our luggage and car seat from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor, he just stood to the side annoyed. When I almost slipped down the stairs holding my child, because there is no elevator, he just snipped at me and said to be careful. We were stranded in a small town with no taxi or Uber service, in the middle of traveling to our destination. It was just me and my small son. I wish I would have known prior to getting there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice room. Had what I wanted for a good price.
Close to I-95.
- Becky (8/5): - $10 dollar extra charge when we arrived cause my son was 14... never heard of that
- N201 (8/5): - Surprisingly happy with my stay. I’ve been getting a couple of duds lately . There’s places to eat nearby Clean reasonably priced service with a smile. I would definitely stay here again for a quick shut eye.
- Righand80 (6/5): - Decent place but hard to get any rest with full time residents up all night loud and slamming doors.
Bad area of town
Bathroom could use some attention
- Janet (2/5): Greedy cold manager - While driving on interstate 95 from florida to NJ I made this reservation on my phone two minutes later I realized it was south and I was driving north. TWO MINUTES and the manager would NOT let me cancel. I did not get there, I will NEVER use this hotel chain again. Inconsiderate manager.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Satisfying - Now, it may look rough on the outside, but trust me our room was worth than our expectations; very clean and would book again.
