- Alessandra (8/5): - Abbiamo passato 5 giorni piacevoli in famiglia e lo staff è stato molto gentile e accogliente. Eravamo in bassa stagione quindi il mare non era molto adatto ai più piccoli ma il manager ci ha indirizzato verso un hotel gemellato con piscina per passare una bella giornata. La posizione è vicinissima alla spiaggia e quindi molto comoda, si trovano facilmente sia ristoranti che mezzi di trasporto. La colazione era davvero sublime, la migliore del nostro viaggio e il giardino che circonda la casa ha affascinato i bambini. Siccome la nostra aria condizionata non funzionava lo staff ci ha subito risistemato in due altre stanze e ci ha anche aiutato ad organizzare il nostro trasporto verso la struttura successiva. La casa è antica quindi richiede molta manutenzione ed eravamo in bassa stagione, detto questo la camera poteva essere pulita meglio. Inoltre era un po' buia.

- Suanne (10/5): A beautiful serene stay in lush gardens - A beautiful serene space in lush gardens across the road from a glorious beach. We loved the location and serenity of the property. After being on a scorching hot beach for the day it was a delight coming back to our cool and calm room which was very comfortable. The yoga dome in the garden was an added bonus and I was able to do a class each morning followed by breakfast on the balcony. So so lovely. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great and filtered water was always available. In fact we left to move to Galle yesterday and had I realized how close it was to Galle in retrospect we should have just stayed at Secret Garden and done a side trip into Galle. Highly recommend. Nothing
- Jean-luc (7/5): A garden with lots of secrets... - The garden with all his wild life is fantastic. Feeding a monkey with a banana in front of your room is quite unique! Various birds (including a peacock) and varans. It's hard to find a better location in Unawatuna. The staff is kind and helpful. The breakfast is perfect. It's hard to avoid the wild life around to penetrate in your room, so you might have various bugs on walls. Our rooms and bathrooms were not clean. The very old architecture means some rooms might miss natural light. It's time to refurbish the rooms.

- Hannah (7/5): Very rustic but peaceful stay away from the crowds - Secret Garden Villa really is a calm oasis from all the hustle and bustle of Unawatuna. It feels so peaceful, the moment you enter. The bed was enormous, which is a huge plus! The staff were lovely and kind, and they were so accommodating when we needed a late check out. It felt a bit dirty in parts - potentially because the buildings are so old, but it could definitely do with refreshing some of the appliances/furniture much of which is v old and rusty. It’s also very much NOT somewhere to stay if you don’t like bugs/lizards coming into your room - highly recommend staying here if you’re a big nature lover.

The garden is so beautiful with monkey coming every morning and evening, whenever needed they have cleaned our accommodation, everyone was very friendly and helpful. If we come ever again we will for sure stay here.

- Bartosz (10/5): Possibly the best place to stay in Sri Lanka - This is a really magical place, located in the centre of Unawatuna, some 50m from the beach, bars, shops and restaurants, yet quiet and serene enough to allow you to wind down after a long day. Hidden in a lush, tropical garden, it really is an oasis of tranquility. The staff were amazing, always there to help us and to cater to our needs. The room (or chalet, I should say) was large, clean, well-equipped and beautifully decorated, the breakfasts were fantastic and the yoga class in the morning (extra charge) was a cherry on the top.

- Anna (10/5): Perfect family stay - It is a great, secret place to stay in Unawatuna. The jungle garden is a miracle in the middle of such a crowded town. Rooms are designed with respect to the tradition. Beds are ok with mosquito nets. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good (real bread not an industrial toast, great marmalade). We really liked the design of rooms and the availability of verandas and other places you can spend time - garden tables and sunbeds. The old house has its consequences - there are sometimes lizards and mosquitos coming there and the floor is natural, but this was totally fine for us. You can have yoga class every day in a great round building in the garden. This is a really great option! We had to pay a 10 percent service charge which was not mentioned anywhere before. It is a bit noisy in the evening from the street nearby.

- Colin (10/5): Great relaxing place to escape. - Secret Garden is a lovely,quirky,relaxed place to stay at Unawatuna Beach. The staff are amazing and make you feel totally welcome. You are staying in a beautifully maintained jungle type garden with resident squirrels, various birds and the friendly happy dogs. We would certainly stay again.

We loved the outdoor shower and being across the road from the beach. The rooms are quite dark, but that’s because the building is 140 years old.

If you want to experience a secret piece of magic away from the hustle and bustle of Unawatuna, away from the crowds, enter the secret garden and be prepared to feel cosy, at home, welcomed and looked after. …and join a yoga class at 9am while you are at it! 💕☺️ the yoga hall is also fairytale-like! Nothing ….it is my favourite place in all of Sri Lanka.
- Philippe (3/5): A garden but a rooms in very poor condition - Nice garden but Much mice and a lot of mosquitoes, even with mosquito repellent they attack, and so many of them, very uncomfortable. Because of the very loud music of the bars, restaurants and clubs all around, it’s impossible to sleep before late at night. The main problem is cleanliness and lack of hygiene of the place. Cabana are extremely basic, no glass window, very poor Wi-Fi.

For me not an issue but you need be a person that is ok in a very natural environment ( spiders mosquitoes etc) There is a local issue using Uber and we were not made aware and the hotel staff clearly are afraid of consequences from local tuk tuks- it left a really bad vibe upon leaving. - Francesco (1/5): Secret Garden Villa - A Complete Nightmare, Do Not Stay Here! - N/A Booking 4 nights at Secret Garden Villa was the biggest mistake of my entire trip. I fled after just one night because the room was an absolute horror show. There were massive cockroaches crawling around, the bed was filthy, and the pillows were broken and disgusting (don’t just take my word for it, see the pictures attached). This place was shockingly dirty, far beyond what any traveler should ever have to endure.What makes it even worse is that this was the most expensive place we stayed in during our 14 days in Sri Lanka. We've stayed in all kinds of conditions, but this was by far the worst, and ironically, it was supposed to be the place where we could finally relax. Instead, it turned into a nightmare.When we brought these issues to the attention of the owner, she had the nerve to insinuate that we had spent the afternoon searching for a cheaper place to stay, rather than acknowledging the appalling state of the room. To make matters even worse, we asked for the blankets to be changed while we were out for dinner, but when we returned, nothing had been done. The staff even had the audacity to "order" my girlfriend to change the blankets herself.The management had the audacity to charge me for the night I suffered through, even though the conditions were absolutely deplorable. This is not just an issue of discomfort; it’s a matter of health and safety. Secret Garden Villa is a disgrace, and I strongly urge anyone considering staying here to think twice. You deserve better.

The property sits in a walled area, very central and short walk to the beach. Feels like you are in a jungle oasis. The owners were really lovely and welcoming too. Perfect little spot away from the hustle & bustle of Unawatuna felt like Sri Lanka which the beach didn’t. The only thing to be aware of is we didn’t get the room we had booked. But a different one it was ok but bathroom wasn’t quite en-suite! Loads of mosquitos but that’s not there fault.
- Frits (10/5): Virkelig en hemmelig have. - Vi valgte Unawatuna frem for Galle for at komme tættere på stranden. Secret garden ligger i anden række fra stranden med meget nem adgang. Stedet er en fantastisk kombination af en gammel kolonial bygning med omkringliggende have, og moderne srilankansk tilgang til gæster. Vi følte os meget velkomne i et stort hyggeligt værelse med de nødvendige faciliteter. Dejlig morgenmad til fleksible tider.

- Brian (10/5): Secret Garden is a great place to stay. - This is a gem of a place to stay. The hosts are wonderful. There is a real family sense to the hotel. It's a great little find. It's close to the beach and restaurants. i would easily spend a few weeks staying at this hotel. Now, even though we booked for 4 nights in this hotel, we only stayed 2 maybe 3 nights - that's because my wife got sick when we were there. Nothing to do with this hotel, but she had Dengue Fever, so we ended up spending a night in a local hospital. I certainly had no expectation on Secret Garden to do anything for us, but they went above and beyond to support us. they called and checked in on us while we were in the hospital and they were courteous and informative about my wife's condition. Although, it had been a tough few days with illness for my wife, we were so glad that we were in Secret Garden when it happened. We felt very looked after. Nothing immediately comes to mind.
- Lydia (9/5): Peaceful oasis in a great central location - Beautiful setting in a lovely tropical garden. Secret Garden Villa is a peaceful oasis. Right next to the main strip of unawatuna but you'd never know! All the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious

Absolutely loved the fact that it is tucked in and around beautiful coastal vegetation. The staff here is super helpful and cheerful. The owner of the property - Simona, is somebody I would look upto for being so lively all the time. Such a beautiful lady! It has all the amenities you would need in a homestay. I would definitely stay here again!

The place needs maintenance. We found the air very mouldy and I am allergic to mould. Also the shower tap came out when trying to use it . Things dont have a fresh clean look . Also the staff did not tell us that they dont live there. In the morning we wanted a cup of tea and there was not one in the kitchen

- Ronald (8/5): A stay in paradise near to the sea having nice talk with staff member Udesh. - The breakfast was good and had many surprises, like avocado, passionfruit,mango. The garden is like paradise. The staff is very dedicated to their job and makes you feel at home. The home is a very nice decorated home with many antiques. During powercuts we would appreciate a GENERATOR. Some guests might complain about the noise of a generator but the opposite neighbour does use a generator so some noise will be there anyway.
- Ralf (8/5): Very good - Very personal connection to the staff. Beds were comfortable and clean. Spacious bathroom. A lot of green around. More on the quiet side even though it is close to the main road. Some items of the furniture should be replaced as they are quite old or broken. The air condition in our room did work but if you're someone who likes to freeze the room down to 21 degrees, that's something that will not happen. Entrance to the hotel is a bit further down than indicated on Google maps. So you should be searching for the yoga dome of the hotel which is at the right location on Google maps. I would love to see some investment in the property and a clearer focus on what it wants to be. A yoga retreat or a spacious character hotel in a lot of green.

- David (10/5): Mesmerizing place 30 meters from the beach in the beautiful jungle forest - It’s 30 meters from the beach, but also right in the jungle forest with tall trees, a small canal and all kinds of beautiful animals such as peacocks. Their veranda is great if you work remotely. High internet speed. Right in the middle of the backyard jungle there is a yoga house, where you can enjoy classes with Ranjan. Ranjan gave us a lot of useful health advises that have drastically improved our well being. Rooms are great, clean and cousy. Staff is very friendly. I’m going to recommend this place to all of my friends.

- Alison (8/5): Unique accommodation in beautiful garden setting - The Secret Garden offers a gorgeous haven of peace and tranquility to escape to from the hot sunshine and humidity of Sri Lanka. Very welcoming, attentive and friendly staff. Beautiful old colonial buildings which were rebuilt following the devastation of the 2004 tsunami. It takes less than a minute to walk to the lovely beach of Unawatuna which has plenty of bars and restaurants. A wide variety of delicious breakfasts available; they will also prepare you a typical and delicious Sri Lankan breakfast if you would like to try one! Friendly dog that will accompany you for a walk round the village! Yoga lessons and massages are on offer in a separate, domed building within the grounds. Plenty of wildlife within the garden's grounds including geckos, humming birds, lizards and a family of shy monkeys within the trees. --
- yp (6/5): cool, unusual, friendly owner, damp - I loved the decor and the outdoor shower which was a real experience... the owner is super friendly, great area. good breakfast. the room was very damp though- with a very loud ceiling fan and not very effective A/C.
- Åsa (6/5): Bra läge. Trevlig personlig personal. Mkt kryp. - Ägarinnan mkt trevlig och hjälpsam. Mysig trädgård, lite djungelliknande, vilket tyvärr medförde väldigt mycket mygg. Öppen glugg i badrummet som också gjorde att det blev mkt mygg, spindlar o kackerlackor. Fantastisk yoga i fin miljö, dome i trädgården.
- Ann-Carin (10/5): En paradisisk upplevelse! - Fantastiskt område nära Unawatunas bästa del av stranden. Inga stora vågor pga ett rev som mildrade vågorna, inga strömmar. Perfekt om man inte är så van simmare.
- marie (10/5): Beautiful stay at Secret garden - Secret garden is a fantastic place with lots of athmosphere and beautiful booth the rooms and terraces and of course the garden. Warm and friendly staff you really feel at home. Most recommennded!!
- Not Provided (10/5): Skønt at bo i en frodig have 50 meter fra stranden - Skønt at have et stort rum og egen veranda. Simpel men funktionel indretning. Overdækket dobbeltbruser i det fri. Haven var frodig og en fornøjelse at gå rundt i og skyggefuld. Med lejlighedsbesøg af vilde aber, vi hørte vilde påfugle, og vi så ofte egern og kæmpe firben. Man krydser vejen og er så på den dejlige strand i Unawatuna med ok snorkling. Morgenmad købte vi ikke der - det kan fås billigere mange andre steder tæt på. Eneste minus var, at man skulle betale med kontanter, hvilket vi ikke fik fortalt på forhånd. Og det var lidt overdrevet at skulle hæve til betaling for 8 dages ophold. Til gengæld kunne vi betale på et nærliggende hotel (eget af indehaverens mand) og benytte deres fantastiske pool højt hævet lige ud til havet.
