• Sladeythelady (10/5): Should be more than 2* - Lovely welcome with a cold drink on a hot day - our host Gabriel could not do enough to ensure the best experience for our stay and was most informative about the town and its amenities. The room was large (as was the bed) and very clean. We sat out in the private courtyard before walking to the main restaurant area. It is a small boutique hotel and I was expecting a basic breakfast; instead it was varied and plentiful. Will definitely stay here again if in the area.

• 804amyj (8/5): Charming hotel - Charming hotel on the bank of the river Vienne. We stayed here for 4 nights and it is a 5 minute walk from the old centre of Chinon with it’s beautiful fortress and lots of shops and restaurants. We had a lovely room, very tastefully furnished. There were a few things which would have made our stay perfect though. Firstly there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room so if, like me, you are caffeine dependent, you have to wait until breakfast. Secondly, the door to our en suite bathroom was made of frosted glass so you need to be on extremely friendly terms with your companion, otherwise using the loo could be embarrassing! There is no parking allocated to the hotel guests but there is a free car park a few minutes walk away. Breakfast was between 7.30 - 9.30 which feels a bit early when you are on holiday. I needed gluten-free bread and cereal which the hotel didn’t provide so I had to bring my own, but I get the impression that allergies and intolerances are not generally catered for in France in the way they are in the UK. Overall it is a nice hotel, and a good location for exploring the beautiful town of Chinon.

Upstairs room has truss beams very low and next too bed, easy to hit head. No stand up shower only tub. Really there are better rooms in this city for comparable rate. Would look elsewhere. There are nice courtyards for several rooms, but again hard to enjoy given the road noise.
• Amanda (10/5): - Lovely one night stay at this little gem of a place. Room was clean and fresh with character and the bonus of a sweet little private terrace area overlooking pretty courtyard. Breakfast was good with fresh croissants, coffee etc. Chinon gorgeous old town. Heartily recommend this hotel and its surroundings.
• debworton (10/5): A Loire Valley gem - We stayed in a courtyard room at this little hotel tucked just up the road from the centre of town. It was absolutely perfect for an overnight stop on the way from the deep south to Dieppe. A spacious, airy room that opened onto a sweet and attractive courtyard garden, I didn't miss the river view that other rooms in the main building will have had. Service was lovely, the bed syper-comfy and the breakfast was a great example of classic French fare - croissant, bread, pastries, juice, coffee - plus some hard boiled eggs, cold cuts, yogurt etc. Just a short stroll from the middle of this beautiful and historic town, Hotel Agnès Sorel will definitely be seeing us again!

Le patio attenant à la chambre est des plus sympathique, joliment orné et aménager de mobilier de jardin. Le petit déjeuner est complet et en quantité. • S1204MCdianew (10/5): Excellent Hotel - This is a lovely hotel that is run by a charming couple. We had a large room at the front of the building looking out at the River. It was very peaceful and beautiful. The room was spotlessly clean and very nice. Breakfast was delicious and a great way to start our busy days. It consisted of juices, bread basket, jams, butter, cereals, dried fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, meats and cheese. We enjoyed a cappuccino every morning. We asked for wine to be brought up to our room on two evenings and it was promptly delivered. Excellent stay!

• Verified traveler (4/5): Way too loud - This hotel is one of those where you can hear someone walking next door as if they’re inside your room. Our neighbors were pretty quiet, but we spent more money to have the pretty river view room which turned out to be awful because it’s also in front of a very busy road. We were woken up all night from motorcycles and cars zipping past. The people barely spoke English and still charged us for our remaining two nights even though we told them we couldn’t possibly sleep there another night with the noise. Theoretically there is free street parking but you have to move your car twice a day. I’m surprised by all of the high reviews. It looks cute, but just not very practical. Maybe the rooms facing the back of the building are better.

So pleased we chose this hotel as it was very traditional, right in the centre of town and on the Loire. Great room; we’d chosen the suite with private terrace which was good to relax in and very comfortable. Breakfast in the morning is plentiful and extremely good value. Next time we’re on our wine trail, we’ll certainly stay again.

Lovely hotel, room overlooking river, spotlessly clean with a very fastidious owner that had a really cute dog called Joy (although he was a boy). Would definitely recommend Chinon and a must is to have dinner at the Au Chapeau Rouge restaurant, which is within walking distance from the hotel.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel close to city centre - We did not stay in the main hotel, but in rooms situated around an open-air garden courtyard a few metres away. Very nice. Room had table and chairs outside in leafy courtyard. Buffet contindntal breakfast was OK and hotel was within easy walking distance of city centre, bars and restaurants, but nearest overnight parking was 100m away. No bar, but drinks were sold at reception until 8pm. Would stay there again.

We had a very quiet well appointed bedroom in the separate courtyard annex to the rear. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was very good and plentiful.

• sailorgirl123 (10/5): Exceptional in every way! - The Agnes Sorel hotel is simply exceptional. From our balcony we had a view of the river and a view of a meandering medieval alley. Our bed was sumptuous and the space was well appointed. Ask for the superior room, and you won't want to leave. The hotel sits on the fringes of town and right along the river. It's a quick stroll along the tree lined river walk into town. You can find a lovely plaza with sidewalk cafes and restaurants. There is an excellent tourist information center filled with English speaking staff, maps and brochures. Go see the fortress and take a boat ride on the river. You can swim and eat well and relax for days. Agnes Sorel hotel is the perfect place to stay in Chinon. The hard working couple who care for their guests keep everything spotless! This is boutique hotel is exceptional in every way!
• MarionS431 (8/5): Lovely - Very pleasant welcome from the owners. 4 nights in a simply furnished large clean comfortable room with one of the largest bathrooms I’ve seen in a while. Tucked away in a small courtyard, the main hotel a few metres away, lovely and quiet. Breakfast, French and excellent. Would certainly recommend if staying in Chinon.
• elizabethd484 (10/5): Pleasant stop-over - We stopped here for a couple of nights on our way to Spain......unpretentious but charming....side room which was basic but clean with spacious bathroom.....glad not to hear traffic so suited us and since view of river across the road from front of hotel felt we didn't miss anything. Presume the young couple around the place were the owners, very pleasant and helpful....adequate continental breakfast. Chinon itself not huge but a pleasant enough place to stay. We picniqued(!) as the French do in the evening so did not use local restaurants which seemed to be plentiful. However after 10 pm the town was very quiet. Would certainly use the hotel again.
• Steve-Rita-A (6/5): Small room - We arrived in Chinon and toured the Fortress de Chinon which was quite nice. The hotel was located on the main road along the river. The room was quite small and we did not think it looked like the pictures but pictures can be deceiving. There was no safe (which we were aware of before we took the room) and no closet. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Basically, just a bed and bathroom and not much room for anything else. However, for the price, it was okay. We did walk around the town and it was definitely a medieval village. That being said, there was not much in the town...a few restaurants and not much else.
• Canarius (10/5): Two stars? No. Make it four. - Me and my girlfriend stayed for one night in this cosy chic hotel by the river in chinon. Florent greeted us with a smile and showed us up to our room. We were a bit apprehensive as it looked out onto the main road...but it was so quiet. He showed us the best places to eat and we were able to eat three courses. For two people. With a beer and a wine for 37 euro!! Upon checking out Daniela and Clotilde couldn't stop chatting ..that's the way hotel Agnes is. Fun. Friendly and so worth more than two stars. Will I be back? Yes. Have I got one criticism....... Plastic cups in the bathroom screams youth hostel. Other than that love you guys. Thanks for a great night in chinon xx
