Guest Reviews
- Love (10/5): - The overall ambiance, beautiful art full decor and the food was yummy. A lot of stairs, I was ok with it but a lot would not be
- Molly (8/5): Good overall - Restaurant service could be a little slow.
- Susan (10/5): - The grounds and the decor, especially in the restaurant, were so lovely. No elevator was a challenge as we are elderly. We did not ask for help with our bags but we should have.
- mg (10/5): -
- Julie (10/5): - Every single staff person was fantastic.
- Kevin (10/5): Can't wait to go back someday. - Incredibly surprising and innovative. Would love to have stayed longer; just exceptional on all fronts. Staff was a bit lukewarm a number of times. I've had more welcoming experiences, however several of the staff met those expectations, just not all.
- Barbara (10/5): - Fun, historic location. Great for families. Food in all restaurant choices was amazing. Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Debbie (10/5): - Super friendly staff. Fun place to do passport Our ice bucket had a old coffee cup, and a piece of a 1/2 eaten piece of bread.
- James (10/5): - McMenamins are always the coolest, the paintings, the history, all the hotels/bars/theaters.
- Dimitrios (9/5): - everything
- Kelsey (10/5): -
- fonda (4/5): -
- Jeffrey (7/5): Nice start at a fun location - Very unique setting and quaint story. Good variety of on site eateries and good night life. No in-room refrigerator. The TV was awkward and slow. Uncomfortable chairs. The bathroom door didn't latch so it couldn't lock.
The lighting in the room was dim. No ice machine in the hall.
- Jody (9/5): - Very cool, eclectic place. Love all the food and drink options that allow you to stay right there and not worry about having a few drinks then taking ride share. Pretty convenient location for my stay. Parking was pretty good as well. The prices for drinks at the restaurants were a little high, but that's probably because most of their business comes from non-hotel guests. Maybe a small discount for hotel guests would be good.
- stephen (10/5): glad we decided to stay , and look forward to staying at other McMenamins propertys. - we had a breakfast bagel delivered to the room , very good. love walking around the property and visiting the Nui Nui lounge. This is anywhere you go now, but prices are sky high.
- Angela (10/5): Relaxing stay near Seatle and Woodinville - Beds are comfortable, staff are welcoming, grounds are lovely, the pool is warm with a fun tiki theme, the myriad restaurants on site. N/a
- Jessica (9/5): - Room was great! Ciderfest was awesome!
- Thomas (10/5): - Easy going staff and great restaurants. The roof was comfortable. The pool area was amazing. The price was reasonable.
- Ethan (1/5): Mixed bag - cozy for adults in the daytime, unsafe at night or on the weekends. - The property is gorgeous, with many taverns, and cozy nooks to sit, relax, have a cocktail, or talk with friends. There are fireplaces everywhere, and the waitstaff and bartenders are not only friendly, but will spin yarns if you're there at the right time. Some waitstaff are absent - more than a few times in our weekend, waitstaff disappeared for long stretches. And, when some waitstaff were there, they were disinterested in helping us. It was fine, since we didn't have anywhere to go, but it's hard to imagine hove the level of disengagement scales to a full resort style establishment.
The really bad part is the clientele. A lot of young males, drinking a lot, and very aggressive. My party (including a couple kids) were physically assaulted by two young men in the Tavern. The bartender was immediately on it, but the vibe in the Tavern (at least) was very rowdy, and, especially for kids, unsafe. We were scheduled to stay in the hotel, but checked out the first night due to safety concerns.
In summary - great place to have a quiet cocktail in some places, but we would advise not visiting the Tavern or restaurants on weekends, due to the unsafe nature of the patrons. Mixed bag, but definitely not safe for families.

- Linda (10/5): -
- Vicki (10/5): Relaxing and enjoyable! - Easy to get to off the freeway. Staff so friendly and accommodating. Wonderful choices of restaurants on site.
Complimentary wine in our room with a card for our anniversary was a special surprise. Signage to tell customers where to go for the main hotel.
- Cheryl (6/5): -
- Ellen (10/5): Good times in Bothell, my home away from home. - The location near family is good for me, though I'm usually too busy or in too much of a hurry to take advantage of all the possibilities for entertainment. I like the spacious rooms, I like the morning coffee, I like the delivered breakfast when I bother with that. The shower needs a bench. It's hard to shave your legs without something the put your foot up on.
I usually find the stay pretty pricey, at least on weekends.
- Bell (10/5): A fun night with everything we needed right at the property. - Unique, comfortable, great service, free parking
- Jana (9/5): -
- Cheryl (9/5): Great spot for a stay - Everyone in 1place, restaurant theater pool etc Wish the lights were a little less dim
- Kirby (10/5): Reminded me of the best of the Kennedy school, and Edgefield - Breakfast was great!
Fast, filling, and in a great atmosphere. N/A
- Joyce (10/5): - Beautiful grounds with variety of settings and amenities. Helpful staff. Parking given the volume if folks who were only there for drinks and a meal made overnight and checking parking challenging.
- Christine (10/5): Fin get away close to home, accommodation, variety of places to eat and movie all on the same property - unique
- Smith (10/5): -
- Kelly (10/5): -
- pauloV5843RN (10/5): Fun oasis in the city - Great time, funky little hotel . Great way to feel like you’ve gone away when staying right in the city. Great tiki vibe !!
- Jessie (10/5): - Fun experience
- Jon (10/5): Don't tempt me with a good time. - To a person, the staff was friendly, accommodating and genuine. The eclectic vibe and the history of the place made my experience very comfortable. It's clear that the small details are thought about.
-great dining
-things to do; theater, pool, garden
-unique rooms that are just right
-good online communication Honestly, I'm good.
- RICK (10/5): - It's always been a fun place, and the various offerings there are a benefit. The mouldings, however, in my room, were very dirty and dusty. All else great.
- Patricia (10/5): A Must Stay for Fun & Comfort - Our room was spacious and bed was very Comfortable. The room had a great air/heating system and easy to operate. Shower was good and products were nice. The pool was large and a fun place to start off our morning! The property was beautifully decorated and easy to walk around. A map was provided at the hotel when we checked in. Even though this property was in middle of downtown, it was quiet and parking was easy.
- Chelsie (10/5): - I've been to quite a few McMenamins properties, but this one is my favorite. I LOVE all the plants and trees around the property. The outdoor fireplaces were really cozy, and the whole place felt magical. All the staff we interacted with were very nice. The food was great, too! I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
- Michael (10/5): No Notes - I love this place. No notes!
- Heidi (10/5): - We loved this hotel so much we stayed on the property and made full advantage of the surroundings. There is so much to see! The grounds are charming and well lit- we ate at 3 of the restaurants- had 1 vegetarian with us and she was able to find something interesting to eat at each restaurant. I noticed people strolling the hallways on several occasions to look at the artwork, history on the walls. This is a well done, friendly, non-cookie cutter hotel which will mesmerize everyone. I've stayed at another McMenamins hotel in the past and enjoy the originality of each! The lagoon pool is wonderful! We had a great time here.
- David (10/5): - There are so many restaurant choices and things to do that we will have to come back to experience them all.
- Amber (10/5): -
- Peter (10/5): - Eclectic and fun vibe
- Patricia (8/5): - It is great that it is pet friendly-including the outdoor areas of restaurants! In the down side the designated pet rooms are on the lower level like a daylight basement. Our room stunk like a dirty dog. Thankfully, upon our request the staff moved us to a nice room on floor 3. We ate both dinner and breakfast at The Tavern. Dinner was fine. Breakfast was delicious! Hotel parking is hard to find when the restaurants are busy.
- Annika (8/5): - Convenient, nice amenities and staff.
- Steven (10/5): First time at McMenamins - We loved the gardens and the lessons in local history. We wish we had more time to enjoy it. We’ll be back!
- BRANT (8/5): - An interestingly converted school and grounds. Staff were attentive and friendly. A much more interesting option than cookie cutter budget hotel chains.
- thomas (10/5): Beautiful grounds and food/service was excellent! Room large and comfortable. - Absolutely wonderful for any age! Loved it all👍
- Christopher (8/5): - The Facilities were cool. The Bars were fun to hang out and relax, and the food was good. The room was nice and had a home-like feel. The 3 things that got to me was the lack of a mini fridge, and the chairs in the room were like ones from an old dining set. They were nice looking, but not comfortable at all. This led to sitting on the bed rather then the chairs and that didn't leave support for the back. Therefore I ended up not spending a lot of time in the room. The last thing was the shower. It was very small. That being said, I could deal with that, but the water pressure was barely more then flicking water with your fingers. I've seen it rain harder then that in the PNW. With those 3 things being the exception, it was a good stay.
- Briane (10/5): -
- Angela (10/5): A delightful & diverting discovery - Spectacular spot in the midst of Bothell. We adore that once parked there is zero need to leave until check-out. The staff are all warm & welcoming, the grounds are beautiful, each restaurant and bar serves balanced cocktails and delicious meals, and there is even a theater and pool. N/A
- Owen (9/5): -
- Tom (3/5): -
- Sharon (10/5): Wonderful atmosphere and staff. Unique and fun! - Location, options and history. Some gnats flying around in our room.
- Diva (10/5): - Saw a movie what a nice option
- Allison (10/5): - Great location for attending an event at Chateau St. Michelle! Loved checking out the different bars and having so many ammenities in one place.
- Raincitywanderer (8/5): Unique Getaway for a Few Days - We stayed here for a couple nights this week for a business thing for my husband's work. McMenamins is a regional/local brand and thus I'm a bit biased toward supporting them. I have eaten at other locations, but never stayed at any. The locations are always a bit quirky and eclectic and focus on preserving historic locations in a way that benefits the community which I think is great. This location is clearly popular and busy for dinner even during the middle of the week. The food is good, but maybe a bit overpriced for what you get. The staff were all very lovely. The property is clean and well maintained. There is a pool, but it is open to the public so pretty busy (great for the community though!) and might not be for you if you're not big on public pools with small kids. The gardens are pretty but there were a lot of bugs, particularly spiders. Service was good everywhere. The meeting facilities and catering for the meeting oriented meals were good and the service was good. The rooms are not terribly sound proof. We could hear the music outside and what sounded like people running upstairs. The alarm clock has a white noise machine built in and we always bring our own so that wasn't a huge deal for us.
This location probably could have got another half or full star from me if it addressed three things: 1) There are tables on the terrace that are uncovered and under trees so I nearly had pine needles and leaves land in my food 2) The pillows are HORRIBLE. Even just offering a pillow menu for people to pay for better pillows would have been welcome. 3) The towels are incredibly cheap and rough. It's like they bought the cheapest towels available. Not awesome and a small detail to fix.
Overall good experience and definitely a fun little getaway in a cute neighborhood. If you aren't looking to stay it has some good restaurants that are nice for a casual brunch or dinner.
- Michaela (10/5): - Everything was unique. Fun and informative rooms and hallways, cozy accommodations, lovely grounds, fun restaurants with good food and fun themes. Eat-in movie theater with first run movies. Loved it and recommended to visitors. Will go back!
- vicki (10/5): - Excellent property with lots of activities, bars and dining options.
- Provost Rachner (6/5): courtyard and location in town made the stay worth it. - The grounds and courtyard were amazing. Restaurants were good… not outstanding. Firepits in the evenings with friends & family. Hotel room lacking in amenities. No coffee pot in the room, no fridge, no nearby ice machine. No complimentary breakfast, and the restaurant was pricey. Had to put clothes on and go to another floor for coffee. I travel with medication that needs refrigeration, and was given a tiny portable fridge . Maid service never came to check the room. After several days the carpet needed cleaning, and I had to go find the housekeeper to get fresh towels. Pool was lovely in the morning, very crowded in the afternoon.
- Robert (8/5): - Unique and charming Hotel with adjoined restaurants and grounds. Old converted schoolroom so rooms are a bit sparse. Wifi was horrible so not good for business stay.
- Theresa (10/5): -
- Patricia (8/5): - Beautiful gardens & grounds. Friendly & helpful staff. Great drinks at Nui Nui, the tiki bar above the pool. Room was large and comfortable; however, the bed pillows were ready to be replaced. I was looking forward to enjoying some time in the pool, but I was disappointed to find the pool really crowded due to swimming lessons. Overall, it was a nice stay and I liked how McMenamins repurposed an old school and created a unique experience for guests that included local history and fun artwork throughout hotel & restaurants.
- Jmorine (6/5): Okay - Love the eclectic and uniqueness but wish the service matched the price! We stayed three nights and at $250 a night before tax I wish they at least restocked the room, made the bed, emptied trash, refilled towels…etc. while I understand that this place can rely on the quirky decor and location I wish they would attempt to also provide a good hotel stay experience as well.
- Keith (10/5): - Beautiful grounds, quirky bars, great restaurants, fun room motifs, and friendly staff
- Wendy (10/5): It is its own little hideaway, complete with multiple eating establishments, an amazing garden, fantastic decor, cool li - Loved the decor, the cool grounds, staff…so well done. Nothing…enjoyed all of it!
- Mary (10/5): Great place with fabulous pool and grounds - the pool is amazing. restaurant is delicious ! Room was lovely
- Jeannine (10/5): Exceptional - Unique and comfortable. We were there for about 24 hours. We relaxed, ate, drank and enjoyed the food, drink and outdoor spaces.
- Denise (9/5): Superb -
- Jenica (7/5): Nice stay - Cool grounds. Liked the courtyard with live music. Theater on site. Pool was cool. Would be good for a date night The food was mediocre across the board. Under seasoned, over cooked, poorly plated. I expected more for the vibe and price.
- Shannon (6/5): It’s ok - Really cool place. Kind of a destination hotel. Front desk staff was super. Would have given better review but service at the restaurants was horrid. Started at NuiNui and left after 15 minutes of absolutely no service. Went to the Woodshed and was getting ready to leave when I was finally acknowledged. Food was fine but nothing to write home about
- Kevin (10/5): Great stay for couples. - The Anderson School is a great location. Beautiful garden area to just sit, enjoy a beverage or meal. The pool is very nice too. Love the tiki bar!! Always enjoy our stays at the McMenamins locations.
- Whitney (9/5): Superb -
- Bianca (10/5): Exceptional - So many fun places to find and have a drink!
- Susan (10/5): Loved it!, the pool, the grounds, the plantings, the history. I’m a big fan of mcmenamins - Did not breakfast The light in my lamp went out on the first day. The bulb was replaced. Lamp went out on second day. You may need a new lamp
- Sarah (10/5): - We love the vibe of Anderson School! It feels like you are nestled away in a quiet spot even though main streets border the property. Lots of restaurant/entertainment options and friendly, responsive staff. We'll be back!
- Jmurphy88 (10/5): Wild and wonderful. - This property is absolutely
Magical! It is such a beautiful space to chill in. As an artisan myself I notice and really appreciate the artistic details around every corner! The gardens are lovely and wild at the same time. Friendly staff creative menu items in the different areas. I really appreciate all the fun things going on in the evening like the movie theater and live music. I had come home to bury my Parents ashes and I was very sad. Your property and service really made the somber experience much better. Thank you .
- Steve (10/5): - Woodshop service a bit slow on Friday night die to unforseen circumstances they did their best to compensate for the delay
- Tracie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shannon (8/5): Very good -
- Bo (6/5): - The second time I've stayed at this hotel. I picked the hotel because my kid likes the movie and the swimming pool. Because summer, the hotel has an old smell and the rooms feel stuffy. I hope to open the window, but it is not openable. I had a hard time sleeping, but all the kid-friendly features are good.
- julie (10/5): Highly recommend - Excellent place to stay.
- Jane (10/5): - A great trip for the family with a fun pool!
- Susan (10/5): - Staying in a converted school was a uniquely fun experience!
- Mamad3309 (8/5): Very good - The restaurants/bars on the property had decent drinks and food.
Comfortable bed. Decent room. Just not crazy about being on the sub floor level 1. If I stay there again will be sure to request 2nd or 3rd floor. Did not know we would be in the "basement" level. The noise level of what I assume to be wheeled garbage carts/ plastic totes of some sort along with the loud talking of those pushing said wheeled apparatus on the sidewalk directly outside our ground-level window up til 11 pm then again starting at 6 am was very irritating.
The outdoor wait staff service at the Woodshop was pretty slow in getting us our drinks. Food came at a decent pace. But then we had to track them down to pay our tab. We simply wanted to move inside to play pool but waited over 30 minutes before finally going to look for anyone that would help us close out our bill. NO clue where our waiter disappeared to. Indoor service seemed to be more self service, go up to the bar and order yourself and pay as you go.
- Raul (10/5): - The bars and restaurants are great. Good food and staff are very friendly. Whimsical deco thru out is fun and interesting. Rooms are unimpressive. Dimly lit, so they provide a flashlight?. Pedestal sinks in bathrooms, so not much space for toiletries, makeup, etc. Shower head had poor water flow, but enough to get job done. Coffee they provided was good first day, but weak the next.
- Aaron (8/5): - The hotel, restaurants and gardens are great! I really enjoyed walking around the facility.
- David (9/5): Best old school I have ever attended, no detention. - Close to family and property history.
- Ramona (10/5): - Wonderful local resort
- Kimberly (8/5): A solid choice when staying in the Bothell area. - We like staying at the Anderson School because we can park the car and relax on-site. The hotel is quiet and the rooms are spacious. Check in and check out was easy. The air conditioning in our room did not seem to work well. We ate at the Tavern and the food was only ok. When sitting outside on a nice day, there is utter confusion about what restaurant you are attending. This means your menu, the drink options (even the McMenamins beer options) and servers are different. This resulted in overall poor service.
- Linda (8/5): Love McMenamins Anderson School- will stay again. - Beautiful grounds, comfy bed, great location, self- contained with restaurants, market, bars. Lovely pool. Great coffee station. Personable staff. Only suggestions - mini fridge in room, maybe microwave.
- Dennis (8/5): - Our entire stay was excellent, except it took 2 days for the A/C to cool the room to a satisfactory level. Service, cleanliness, and food and drinks were outstanding. Live music was an unexpected bonus.
- Lynn (10/5): It was nice to remember our youth. - I’m from Bothell. It was a nice trip down memory lane. The stairs.
- Ingo (8/5): Very good -
- Char (10/5): - Rooms need mini refrigerator and coffee maker
- Paul (10/5): - Great bars to visit
- Julie (8/5): Old-school vibe in an old school full of character - The hotel maintained the vibe and character of old Bothell and improved on it with beautiful gardens and landscaping. An oasis among ugly new high rises. Hallways are dimly lit
- Kelly (9/5): Superb -
- Kristin (9/5): Great stay for a getaway with my kid. - It was great, we liked the restaurant and the room. Very nice gardens and good menu.
- X1046HMnicolec (10/5): Such a Cool Spot, Glad I Stayed - This place is honestly so cool. I’ve never stayed anywhere like it. My sister, who knows me really well, recommended it, and I’m really glad she did.
I’ve stayed in hotels all over the US and Europe, and this one is definitely unique. It has a quirky charm and fun personality that made the whole stay feel special. All of the staff have been kind and helpful, from the front desk to the girl working in the little market shop. My room was super clean and comfortable.
The gardens were in full bloom during my stay and are clearly very well cared for. It added such a peaceful and beautiful feel to the grounds.
The only things to note are that you might hear your neighbors if they are on the louder side, and there’s no refrigerator in the room. But honestly, you are literally staying in a converted school, so you kind of know what you’re signing up for. To me, it added to the charm.
I’m surprised the reviews aren’t higher. I had a fantastic time and would absolutely recommend it, especially to anyone visiting from out of state. It’s a memorable and fun experience.
