- TODD (6/5): I wish I were a golfer - This site is just a couple miles from Seaside and a few from Astoria.
Lots of the charm and decor of the other Mcminns..but definately a more modern construction than some of thier hotels. This is definately a golfers destination. It has no beach view. No sauna spa or pool. Not a place kids will love. The day staff in the lobby very blunt and unwelcoming. The swing shift girl was a delight and provided amazing service and advice, in person and on the phone. She is a gem!
If you golf, and the weather permits...this is for you!
There is a fair chance when you book that you may be roomed in the "annex" and not the main hotel, with no warning.
There was a bit of black in the shower corner in room 302.
- James (10/5): - All the cool art work, history, and secret rooms on these properties.
- Trish (10/5): We love Gearhart ❤️⛳️🌊 - We love the hotel, golf course and proximity to the beach Nothing
- Great place to stay for (10/5): Quiet and peaceful option away from it all. - Quiet well appointed rooms. Interesting light I ng throughout making for cool funky vibe. Loved the food and drink options. Will be back! Separate building for sleeping rooms (annex) would not like if rainy weather and wanting to go to and from main building where restaurant/bars are. Glad weather was nice.
- Proamn (6/5): Not bad but some disappointments - Typical charming McMenamins kitsch. Also pleasant staff Hotel was under construction when we arrived. I think the management should have been clear about this with potential guests rather than let it be a surprise. To their credit, work only occurred mid-day when people awake and often out so the disturbance was minimal.
There are too buildings in this hotel. We were in an auxilliary building that felt like a let down compared to the main building which had all the main amenities and more of the ambiance.
Finally, there were very limited options on the menu for vegans/vegetarians and the food was expensive. We chose to eat elsewhere. There are much better choices in nearby Astoria.

- Chris (10/5): It was a beautiful night that I could get away with the love of my life! - The staff was awesome! Friendly, fun, attentive, fantastic!!! Would have liked to be able to check out a bit later.
- Frank (8/5): - Its so cozy and comfortable. I like the size of the rooms and putting coffee out at 6am to get free coffee to take back to your room.

- Cheryl (10/5): The perfect beach getaway and a sunny weekend too! - It was a very cozy and comfortable room! Enjoyed coffee in the morning and a delicious eggs, Benedict breakfast in their restaurant. The restaurant staff was very kind! Love the cozy downstairs bar with a fireplace as well as the outdoor fire pits! Can’t wait to come back! It wasn’t a big deal, but it would’ve been nice for a small refrigerator as I had leftover food.
- david r (8/5): The perfect location, great value and the friendliest staff. - Location. Close to beach. Restaurant The forced air heating for the room was very noisy during the night. No lobby to speak of if you wanted to leave the room but stay in out of the cold.
- Robbie (7/5): -
- Tena (10/5): I can’t write a small sentence about my stay, there’s so many things I enjoyed. I encourage anyone wanting peace and a b - Hat wasn’t there to like, peaceful, relaxing and a bit of mystery. I love this place and I will return! That it was that darn good and I didn’t want to leave
- James (7/5): -
- Carolyn (9/5): - Quirky atmosphere, cool building. Everything was in good condition. Bed was a little hard but otherwise everything was excellent.
- Geoffrey (8/5): Our stay was very enjoyable. - Location was great! Loved the view of the patio and golf course. Breakfast was so.so, need more choices. We ate other places. We didn't like that the room did not have a refrigerator. We had to keep asking for ice. When you bring drinks with you or go out to dinner, one likes to have a refer in the room to keep things cold.
- Brown (5/5): The bar area was great and sitting out on patio was nice. - Location was good, we didn't have breakfast but coffee bar was good very convenient A larger toilet would have been nice and the room too small not much room to move around.
- Karen (10/5): -
- Donald (4/5): - We stayed in the annex which was a block away from the parking with no parking available that was remotely close.
- Marit (10/5): - Links golf and just off the beach
- donna (10/5): - Everything was wonderful. People friendly, good food, rooms were clean and everything we needed. Would stay there again, any time.
- Julie (9/5): -
- Lorin (8/5): -
- Bryan (9/5): -
- Heather (10/5): - A funky little hotel off the beaten path! Convenient to Seaside and other more touristy places- beach access is right across the street. Helpful staff!
- S.B. (9/5): - Location was great, McMenamins has a unique style which was great for our cozy room. Bathroom was roomy and the shower worked well. Staff was friendly and they have bikes! Good time had by both of us. Maybe a magnifying mirror in the bathroom?
- Morgan (10/5): - Very clean and accommodating staff. Decor was adorable and fun to look around at different spots in the hotel!!
- Megan (7/5): - The hotel was epic. Love all the little spots for food and beverages. The discount on a round of golf was only $10. Was hoping it would be a little more the price of the room. Didn't end up playing golf here after driving down for the night.
- Ute (8/5): Overall a nice place to stay 😊 - Close to where we were
- Randall (10/5): - All good.
- Debra (6/5): We got to walk on the beach, and got a good night's sleep. - Close to the beach. Quiet neighborhood. They set up a coffee station in the hallway and the coffee was good. Bath products were very good. No refrigerator, no microwave, no coffee maker in the room, Wi-Fi wasn't good (not a secure network), and very dark inside. I like dogs, but I'm not a fan of dogs in the rooms - there were 3 large ones in the room next to us. The dog smell really bothers my allergies.
- Stephen (8/5): - Clean rooms. Good service. Pretty outdoor patio.
- Allan (10/5): - Very cool vib
- Daniele (8/5): Very good - The room was very nice, the staff was friendly. The location was great and the food was good. The bed was too hard and for some reason the A/C wouldn't stay on. The TV sound setting was too low, which was at maximum sound.
- Matthew (10/5): - These Hotels never disappoint. Unique in every aspect. From entry way to rooms. You'll never be disappointed.
- Megan (10/5): Perfect getaway at the beach with a side of golf, relaxation and explorations. - Great location. Great golf. Great property. Would have been great to have a fridge in the room over a T.V.
We bought some smoked salmon in Astoria and had some dinner leftovers. Luckily we had a small cooler and got some ice from the lobby.
- Madelene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jerry (9/5): Superb -
- Allison (10/5): Nice stop to relax on our pacific coast drive. - Rooms were comfortable and unique. Coffee was excellent. Restaurant was convenient and good. Bed was a bit firm but not terrible.
- Marc (10/5): - Quiet spot, easy walk to the beach and the room was clean and comfy :)
- Tobi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scott (7/5): Good -
- Heather (10/5): Great hotel , close to beach and golfing. -
- Peter (5/5): Passable -
- Holly (6/5): It was just ok. There are nicer, more exciting McMenamins properties. - On the heels of a stay at McMenamins Elk Temple, Gearhart was a let down. It’s ok, however it’s small and unremarkable.
The room was average but adequate. We did hear the occupants of the room next door. TV wouldn’t cooperate, so we gave up trying to coax it to work.
Highlight is the two block walk to the beach and a great, long shoreline to walk. Other than that it’s apparently about golf.
It’s not a place I would return to. It’s not bad. It’s just not special. You might like it if you golf and love bar food
- Marci (8/5): This romantic getaway was wonderful. - Nice friendly relaxed atmosphere Limited menu
- Rashay (8/5): Very good -
- Autnagrag (9/5): McMenamins sets the bar high. - The room was just wonderful. Not modern, but very tasteful vintage-ish furnishings. Exceptionally agreeable restaurant staff (I brought a bottle of wine from my personal wine cellar in another state). It was unsettling to read about the potential for loud golf course maintenance activities as early as 0500, but then I noticed the earplugs in the bedside drawer.
- Tim (10/5): This property has its own unique McMenamin’s character and charm. - It was a great, unique, eclectic hotel! The staff was personable and professional. Very helpful. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable We had multiple meals and all were very good. Not a single thing.
- Joanne (9/5): Friendly staff, helpful and clean, beautiful property. - Clean, beautifully decorated with golf theme. Fun, McMenamin’s -style property! Not a lot to do in area unless you enjoy golf.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abi (9/5): Well styled room and comfy bed. - Beautiful room- wood paneling, cool lights, good style. Liked that there is a restaurant/bar attached. No mini fridge in room.
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful outdoor setting and the inside of the hotel was just as lovely.
- Stephanie (10/5): - We had a very nice stay the view of the golf course was relaxing and the restaurant & bar in house was great.
- Thomas (9/5): Superb - I thought it was on the beach, but very nice anyway
- Forsgren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zapp (9/5): Comfortable and pleasant - Situated in a great location next to the ocean , this quiet sleepy area has a calming relaxing energy to it , I especially loved the area and the rest I got from staying there , the golf course is a definite must play , straight down wind course not to difficult for most , but each to their own, I did venture out to the town of seaside nice little town nice shops around and places to eat , recommend checking it out , I would stay here again and do recommend this property. Not much in the way facilities like swimming pool , theater , or what most of the other property have (although a tv was provided in the room )
- Drake (9/5): Perfect! - Love the cozy comfort of McMenamins. This room has lots of windows and a great view of the golf course. Food was great too! Weather could have been better but that’s not controllable.
- Susan (8/5): Definitely would stay there again. - We liked the location, the restaurant, the coffee service by the elevators in the morning. The bed was very comfortable. Charming ambiance, friendly staff. No plugs near the head of the bed - I use a CPAP machine, and like to charge my phone next to my bed. I had to pull the bed away from the wall and unplug the lamp to plug my two devices in. We had a hard time heating the room, which was pretty cold when we arrived. Could hear our neighbors loud and clear through the walls. We suspect that was why earplugs are offered in the nightstands?
- Lacey (10/5): You will love it! -
- Elisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (8/5): - Very nice. Very clean environment. If you like beer they make some of the best ones around. Excellent Bird pub and golf course
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Laura (8/5): Lovely evening at the hotel - Very peaceful evening at the hotel. Rooms are a bit too dark for me and husband. We are on the older side of things. Would appreciate more lighting.
- Karl (9/5): Superb -
- Warren (9/5): We would stay here again. - Great place to stay. The room was very quiet and exceptionally clean. We enjoyed having a place to eat at the same location. Best fish tacos I've ever had. The bed was a bit soft for both of us.
- Brandon (10/5): - Very unique and fun property. Very vintage feel w/ old artwork and memorabilia. Lot's of history.
- Mark (10/5): - Very nice rooms! Love the theams.
- Keith (10/5): One of our favorite places. - All of their properties are fun and amazing
- Patricia (10/5): I want to come back soon - Everything you need is on site Stafford, very friendly, especially at the check-in desk and the restaurant or tender downstairs quite delightful room, comfy towels, clean plantable I can’t
- Casittarius (6/5): - Hello! It was a nice stay, but lacked in a refrigerator. Was way to expensive for what was provided. Almost no amenities.
The beach was beautiful and the dining was pleasant.
- Debbie (9/5): This was a quick one night stay and it met our needs. Dinner was good in restaurant next door. - We did not have breakfast. The room was dark, I would have liked better lighting.
- Gordon (7/5): Good -
- Quintin (7/5): Good -
- Patricia (10/5): Will stay here again. Loved he amenities - Unique, inviting, welcoming Guests allowed true dogs to run free in the parking lot.
- Emily (10/5): - Staff was very helpful and inviting
- Danielle (9/5): Fun and unique place to stay on the coast - loved the decor/art, the grounds and aesthetics, the secret art room was rad. Even tho McMenamins are a chain, the hotel feels very unique While I appreciate the ability to bring my pet along for the experience, the $30 pet fee is excessive, especially per night.
- Kyle (10/5): - A unique place that made for a fun, memorable experience on our vacation. We will be back in the future!
- Michelle (3/5): Got stuck in room with stairs above us, in the adjacent building, with no view. - Breakfast was good. Only the waitress didn't bring all of our order. Upon arrival, McMenimans claimed that there was a reservation for us but that we were marked as a ' no show '. We arrived right at 3pm on the day we reserved. There was a line of people behind us while we waited 10 minutes for them to work on two computers to figure it out. We booked ONE night for our ONE night vacation, over a month ago. WILL NOT be using Booking.com again. :(
- Mallory (2/5): Very poor -
- JTB (10/5): - Mcmenamins Gearhart Hotel was awesome. The hotel is unlike any we have stayed in. Each room is decorated in a quirky manner. The artwork throughout the hotel was very cool as well as the light fixtures. The owner has really taken pride in decorating each bedroom in a unique way. Everything about the hotel was 5 star. If you are in the area you should stay here, you will not be disappointed.
- Shannon (10/5): - Unique property with a fun vibe. Walking distance to the beach, great restaurant.
- Pearse (7/5): Good - Roomcoffee
- Birgit (6/5): - Restaurant was truly moderate. Hotel is just fine although we were placed in the annex building which was not clear from the booking process.
- Timmons (6/5): Pleasant -
- John (8/5): Happy place ! - Decoration , Steph bartender, young fellow at check front desk 🙂 Our breakfast waitress was so unfriendly we got stressed out and then and the ruined egg Benedict and lack of coffee was a deal breaker.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (9/5): All and all, we had a nice time. - Both the check-in and check-out process were quick and easy.
All the food was good. The service was OK, but it took a long time for us to get our food. Maybe they were shorthanded on cooks that day.
Also, there were no tea bags at the coffee station, but the nice gal at the check-in desk went in the back and brought out a whole teapot just for me. Now that's going the extra mile to satisfy your customer. (I wish I knew her name so I could give her kudos.)
- Anna (8/5): - Nice place.
- Jamie (10/5): - This place is a gem!! Loved the decor, the surroundings were so peaceful and the decorations and rooms are so eclectic and awesome. The bed was comfy and we slept so good. They’ve really paid attention to detail. Finding the secret room was pretty cool. I would definitely stay here again and again and again. LOVED IT
- Carol (10/5): - Na
- Cheryl (10/5): It was truly a gift myself! Thank you, Gearhart Hotel - The room was nice and cool and very clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful. And the food was delicious. The view of golf course while having breakfast was fabulous! It was also nice to come down in the morning to options of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. There wasn’t anything that I did not like. And to get away from the heat in Portland for 30° cooler was perfect!
- Donald (10/5): - The decor and cleanliness of this establishment was over the top.
There was an excellent selection of food and beverages.
- Austynn (7/5): Good - The views of the golf course were amazing, was nice to look out and watch the rain pour
- Dina (10/5): - I've stayed here a couple years in a row, after my favorite place became too fancy/expensive. This is my new "go to". I'm not a golfer, but it's still fun and quiet and relaxing. I wish there were more dining options, though. Oh well, no big deal. While this place is not super luxe, it's clean, tidy and well-run. I'll be back.
- Duane (8/5): This was a good location for visiting nearby parks and beaches, and Astoria. - coffee/tea service in foyer was appreciated and good. The McMenamins signature decor and aesthetic, well appointed and comfortable room It was all a bit confusing at/after check-in -- shuttle to sand trap? Pub? Annex? Ice machine in annex would have been nice.
