Decided to have an ensuite at my next visit so had a queen size bed, twin bunks and a private bathroom. Big kitchen which is cleaned regularly and laundry facilities.

• Alice (8/5): Unique & fun stay - Really central to Fremantle, easy to get around town & good access to ferry port for Rottnest island. Close to Monument hill which is lovely to climb up at sunset with views of Fremantle & Perth in the distance (thank you to the friendly staff member who suggested that!). Fun unique vibe staying in a prison, different to other hostels & loved the way the prison yard had been converted into an activity area. Rooms were on the smaller side, also appreciated that the beds had curtains but if your bed isn't against a wall then only one side is covered. Would increase comfort tenfold if curtains were added to both sides. Also in my room only the top bunks had personal lights. Small improvements could be made to ensure everyone has equal facilities. But really enjoyed the stay overall!

Noisy doors banging, floors not vacuumed in dorm or kitchen entrance for my whole 4 night stay. Dorm close to common area and noise curfew not enforced unless you get out of bed and go to reception to ask.

• Meltari (3/5): NOISY from another guests taking until 1AM - Facility and the friendliness of the staff. While I appreciate that the staff are friendly and welcoming, this may have come at the expense of maintaining a comfortable environment for all guests. During my stay, there were guests loudly talking outside Room 108 well past 10pm, continuing until around 1am. I don’t mind socializing in common areas like the lounge or dining space, but this was directly outside guest rooms and made it difficult to rest. Given that staff are on-site, it would have been helpful if they had addressed the noise or reminded guests to be considerate of others at night. A bit more attention to enforcing quiet hours would greatly improve the overall guest experience.

Stayed in the private twin bunk bed room which was clean and comfortable. Shower and toilet close, with additional bathrooms a short walk away by the kitchen and common areas. Kitchen was spacious with lots of storage and appliances. Multiple spaces to relax and socialise in. Hostel offered evening social activities. Would highly recommend!

There were organised events for people to do to socialise together however i dont think many people went to them which was a shame. The rooms were spacious and very clean. I liked that you could still read about the history whilst in the accommodation. No one in the hostel really socialised together as you would expect in a hostel.

• Kylee (9/5): Just what you’d expect from a YHA. - The novelty of staying in the prison and introducing the kids to a YHA. We had a family room with ensuite which worked for a one night stopover before heading to Rottnest. Very friendly and welcoming reception. I would definitely stay again in transit. That we didn’t have a kettle in the room.

• Tony (8/5): The only prison I would recommend staying in. - The location is awesome, just a brief walk downtown to a variety of cafes & pubs. The room needed a good clean due to hygiene issues of previous inmates -especially the walls.

Il y a peu de toilettes et de douches à l'étage, ce qui oblige souvent à descendre pour y aller (et là encore, c'est parfois occupé), ce n'était pas super pratique. La literie manquait un peu de confort. Pas de petite lumière pour le soir dans la chambre double.

• Nini (5/5): - The location is really good, close to freo city and freo markets and to bus station to go to southbeach. The bathroom was only cleaned once per day, which was not sufficient. By the evening, it was already very dirty. There were no paper towels to dry hands, some toilets were not cleaned after use, and the showers were full of hair and dirt. One of the upstairs showers had a broken door that could not be closed, and downstairs there was no shower curtain, so the whole area got wet. In the kitchen area, the hand dryer in the female toilet was not working, and the sink in the accessible toilet was clogged. Considering the price of over €350 per week, this level of cleanliness and maintenance is not acceptable and feels clearly overpriced.

• Mickael (1/5): Séjour catastrophique dans un hostel mal entretenu et sans aucun sens du service. - Franchement, hostel à fuir. 9 jours sur place et PERSONNE n’a été foutu de réparer la lumière des toilettes. Résultat : obligé d’utiliser les toilettes avec le flash de mon téléphone pendant tout le séjour… ambiance camping sauvage version low cost. Pas de papier pour se sécher les mains non plus… niveau hygiène, on est au fond du trou. Le personnel ? Inexistant. Tu dis “good morning”, ils te regardent comme si tu les avais insultés. Zéro respect, zéro effort. Le coin fumeur… une blague. Obligé de s’asseoir par terre ou sur une vieille palette à côté des poubelles, sans cendrier. Sérieusement, on est où là ? L’ambiance générale est glaciale. Les gens sont aussi sympathiques que des détenus de prison. Aucun échange, aucun sourire, rien. Et en prime (même si l’hostel n’est pas directement responsable), on m’a volé un t-shirt sur mon lit dès la première nuit pendant que je dormais. Bref, une expérience catastrophique du début à la fin. À éviter si vous avez un minimum de standards.

• Jessica (10/5): Comfortable, friendly and relaxed stay - This was a great stopover for a family of 4. The room was very comfortable with great showers/hot water and also wifi. The staff were super helpful and welcoming. There is a good vibe in the hostel with different events each day. We enjoyed the Monday night quiz. There was nothing that could have improved this stay; it was excellent for what we needed.

The kitchen is spacious, clean and well-stocked. The atmosphere was definitely a highlight for me—very social and welcoming, with lots of fun events organised. A big shoutout to Jed for the quiz nights and line dancing, my personal favourites! The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, especially Shenoa and Jed, who always went above and beyond. I’d definitely recommend staying here!

• Rockwood ON (8/5): A great stay in a former prison - We booked a room with a private ensuite and it was very good. The rooms are a little spartan but you have to remember you're staying in a YHA and not a hotel. We loved it, and the former-prison atmosphere. All the staff are friendly and helpful; there's free luggage storage (which was helpful) and a huge shared kitchen.

La cocina era muy grande y limpia y siempre habia lugar El internet no llegaba a la habitación, incluso descargarndo la app que supuestamente te daba mejor internet. Había un solo baño y ducha por piso, por lo que a veces la espera era larga

• Josh (1/5): Misleading photos, unacceptable support - Nothing --- I left immediately. There is no air conditioning in the room provided. My room was on the 2nd floor, and it was 35 degrees Celsius that day. The result was a sauna, and completely unbearable. I booked a prison room for the ambiance not to truly live like a prisoner. Staying would have been cruel and unusual punishment. DO NOT BELIEVE THE PICTURES. 1. DO NOT BELIEVE THE PICTURES. Some rooms do NOT have air conditioning. Misleading photos. 2. Service staff at the hotel -- zero care for my concern, and zero help in refunding the room despite leaving immediately. The response was, "it's a historical building. we can't install air conditioning." 3. Booking.com support was also non-existent. On my first call, they assured me they'd find a resolution and asked me to wait 30 minutes for a response. I waited hours, and nothing. I tried calling them again and wasted over an hour on hold before giving up. I had to book another hotel that night. The next day I received a Booking.com email refunding me $19 dollars (my booking was $126).
