Guest Reviews
- Dave (8/5): - The hotel is perfectly placed for Driffield, right on the high street and an easy walk to the train station. The staff are great and very friendly, spot on full English breakfast. Although the hotel is a little dated it still has its charm and very clean.
- Deborah (8/5): Great for a weekend away - Great location in the centre of the town. The room was spacious but dated. It was clean though. We didn't eat in the restaurant so can't comment about that. We did visit the spa and had a lovely afternoon enjoying the facilities.
- Richard (6/5): Good Old World Feel. - Generally the accommodation is functional.
The bathroom extractor fan noise from other rooms was intrusive. The bed was very comfortable and large.
The main building is 280 years old and I assume listed. It is quaint and interesting and understandably creeky.
- Paul (10/5): - Old world hotel with good old fashioned service.
- Neil (10/5): - .
- Stephen (10/5): Bell Inn - Comfortable stay, good food and friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Desperately needs money spent on the place - It’s a step back in time when you walk into this hotel, although welcoming.
I was greeted warmly, checked in and shown to my room. The access to the room was not that nice, and I felt like I was heading to the kitchens.
The room itself, though clean, is in desperate need of an update (as is the whole hotel to be honest) with pink bedding, and a sofa covered with a blanket that I really did not want to sit on.
I paid quite a premium price for my room, which was not reflected in the quality of what I received.
- James (2/5): Rude staff, not fresh food. - When I book this hotel on the website it said electric charging point available however when I reached there . There No electric charging point.
I paid almost £12 for the breakfast. In the morning staff gave me menu for the drinks . £3.50 for latte and hot chocolate menu.
Food was not fresh . Croissants Was not fresh . I asked for fresh and she put in micro wave and warm up for me. It was so hard look life 10/12 days old.
Staff was rude. When I made complain manger gave me refund and asked me to leave before 11 am.
Not happpy at all . Do not go there
- Stephen (6/5): Quirky and traditional - Proper Yorkshire ❤️
- ralph (4/5): - Room was hot no fan or air con, tv stations were basic
- Josie (10/5): - On arrival very friendly we was too early put we was able to park up. Central for shopping with good choice of shops socialising parking.
- Neil (6/5): No Frills - The hotel itself is fascinating. An old place with many interesting features. The people in charge are very nice. We didn't eat there but saw some of the food and it looked good.
The room we had overlooked the street which was quite noisy at night but got less noisy after midnight.
The room itself was very old fashioned and tired. Clean and functional but tired.
- Diane (2/5): Not the best - I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Our room was cool and smelt musty. The heating wouldn't turn on to heat up the room. We had a small soft double bed which I didn’t find comfortable but that may be a personal issue. I got up on Sunday morning and there was no hot water for a shower. We didn’t use the spa. Breakfast was ok but nothing special . There is some limited free parking which is good but the car park is tight. Some of the staff were helpful but we had to wait for check in for about 10 minutes as the staff were busy elsewhere.
The accommodation standard was poor. I won’t go back

The accommodation standard was poor especially as I paid for an executive double room. I won’t go back
- Y (2/5): Dated - Not for me
Decor vintage
Linen mismatched
Musty odour
- Y (2/5): Don’t stay here - Old
Dated
More like and old peoples home
Bed linen miss matched
Discolouration in towels
- Tiffany (10/5): - Thought the owners where lovely to talk to staff was lovely and helpful definitely book again
- Angela (8/5): Central location spa - Friendly staff and ideal location for centre of Driffield. Swimming pool with sauna and steam available during the day.
- Steve (6/5): Never missed that dartboard! - Chose this hotel, because of the pool and spa which turned out to be nothing like the pictures. The staff are friendly, but the natives are not, it reminded me of the dartboard scene in American werewolf.
Old Hotel, which has its charm, with creaky floorboards to keep you up at night as well as the paper, thin walls, put a jumper on for breakfast if you're going in the winter
- Darren (4/5): - It was like a cross between Fawlty Towers, the Adams Family and The Shining.
- Craig (10/5): Comfortable dated hotel - Delightful dated hotel. Good for the price. Restaurant closed. Friendly bar. Room upgraded to a suite.
- Fiona (6/5): Stepping back in time! - Hotel fine but very old fashioned and the bed was really uncomfortable
- Dean (4/5): - We stayed here for 2 nights, its in desperate need of a refurb, the whole hotel smelt damp and musty and so did our clothes when we got home.. certainly wont be stopping again!
- susan (10/5): - Had room 15 the bed was not very comfortable mattress very squeaky and you could hear the springs otherwise ok
- Sybil (2/5): - Unfortunately, the hotel is very dated. The decor and rooms could do with updating. There was an agricultural show locally that we were attending and there was no chef in the hotel to offer an evening meal.
- Michael (2/5): - I have been staying here for 5 weeks,
Same rate every week , I had a phone call this morning telling me I owe them £40 for breakfast.
I explained I have been staying here for 5 weeks and I have paid the same room rate and selected breakfast every week. I had even booked next week, which is the same price with breakfast. I attempted to explain this to the person on the phone who was raising their voice to the point of rude. So I put the phone down on the end and cancelled my stay for the future, the hotel is clean but the rooms are very dated. The hotel is situated in a good location, which is why I stayed there. The attitude of the person was disgusting to be honest, and on a few occasions this week the breakfast has not been available at 07:00 which is not helpful as I am in town working and had to leave one morning as I would of been late.
- Guy (4/5): - An interesting hotel at the peak of its decline but with friendly staff
- Peter (10/5): The Bell - A bit dated but its an old building but the staff were very helpful and friendly and welcoming, overall we would stay again.
Thanks to all the Staff.
- Nick (6/5): Tired - Friendly and clean. Really dated though and mattress was like a marshy
- Olesia (4/5): Driffield Hilton Bell Hotel - Birthday Spa Stay for two nights was the worst I could ever imagine. On our first day since arrival, there was no hot water in the room, so we could forget about the warm shower in the room plus, the room was cold. We opened all radiator valves to warm up the room, but this did not resolve the hot water case. The room itself was a tidy, small double bed, but comfortable, with a bit out-of-date room design. The initial impression was that Spa facilities would mitigate previous experience. The spa was good, with a few minor issues: the jacuzzi water had too high pH (water drops irritate eyes too much), and some rubbish was floating in the swimming pool. Steam room and Sauna require some TLC, never the less the experience was good. The second night was much better: the room had hot water. The entertainment was a fire drill that could not be resolved till 4 am: It was up and down since 9 pm. The room had a massive fire drill in our room, so we had no idea if the hotel was on fire till it was suggested the hotel had an electrical issue. So Bell hotel kept us alerted for two days. (Not sure if it was by the hotel design) I guess next time, I am booking a Hilton hotel, at least for the paid price you receive the service.
- Kevin (4/5): Avoid! - 200 year old property and to be honest the decor and furniture probably dates back to then. Very uncomfortable seats in the bedroom very creaky landings and floorboards also paper thin walls! So can hear the lot going on next door! Weak shower freezing cold in dining areas! I asked for the heating to be it on but I was told no?
Staff were fine especially the bar breakfast and reception.Food not too bad. The place is falling to bits and I’m reluctant to use Best Western again as they put their name to some terrible hotels! Not recommended I’m afraid! Needs a complete overhaul.
- ian (4/5): Dated Hotel in need of TLC - Sorry but not my type of hotel. Your staff were all amazing , however the rooms are very dated and need a real makeover especially the bathroom. No evening meal available but a choice of local eateries given and offer of plate and utensils if you bought a carry out . Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Leisure was okay with friendly attendant . Car parking is limited and tight !!!!.
- Phil (2/5): - I expected an ensuite but the bathroom was accessed via a spiral staircase and was on a different floor to the bedroom. I was aware the room was accessed by stairs but not the bathroom
- Daniel (10/5): - I hate concrete block hotels. A character filled hotel that was perfect. Will definitely visit again
- S (8/5): - This is a quirky relic of a hotel, a few hundred years old and worth staying just for the experience. But dont stay here if your after something modern. the car park is also very tight, not helped by inconsiderate or poor drivers who cant park within lines but I was told there was another free to use car park a short walk down the road that hotel guests can use when the main car park is full.
- John (6/5): - Lots of character but has seen better days.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly staff - Friendly staff, nice room, liked the quirky decor. Only issue was parking as no space available when we returned in the evening so had to park away from the hotel (luckily still in daylight).
- Janine (10/5): - Really convenient for work and a good stay
- Steven (10/5): - We liked everythimg about the property we actiallu booked a extra 4 mights amazimg
- Stephen (10/5): Friendly hotel good sleep &breakfast. - Had to visit Driffield for 2 days 1 night. Hotel was really goof for what i needed. Exc location, comfy bed good breakfas lovely dining Room. staff very friendly &helpful
Didnt get time to use pool or spa. Cant comment on parking as travelled by train .
- Colin (10/5): Lovely old place - Very quaint old building. A bit tired overall (mattress was knackered) but full of character and very friendly staff ! Lovely breakfast
- Ian (8/5): - The property itself is beautifull but a bit tired inside .clean and warm which suited me .The bed and pillows not quite as comfortable as i would have hoped the pillows a bit too firm .
- Steve (6/5): - The hotel could do with a makeover
- Andrew (8/5): - The venue was lovely with a great atmosphere giving the feel of the period in which the building stands for. However signage is rather lacking, no mention on the front of the building about parking at the rear (non seen on arival). Shame the chef had been given the evening off before i had arrived. The bed is what i would describe a deforced bed as you roll out of bed due to the mattress worn in that manor.
- keith j. (8/5): Bell Inn Driffield - Dated rooms but comfortable. Minor things like the almost non existent TV reception was a bug bear when you wanted to watch something. Car park is very small and took a lot of maneuvering to get out (if you were lucky enough to get in in the first place). Because of my shifts, didnt try the food but this is not a B&B just bed everything is extra. Well situated for the town and 20mins from Bridlington.
- Robert (8/5): Work trip - Nice hotel, entrance, bar and whole downstairs is an enchanting place to be.
Staff were excellent and very welcoming
Only downside is the WiFi could have been faster
- Claire (10/5): - We absolutely adored this hotel. Very old fashioned but in a ‘home from home’ kind of way. The staff were amazing and the bed was soooo comfy!! And the spa was fantastic.
Would definitely stay again xxx
- Steven (8/5): - Room was large although the mattress was on the soft side
- David (6/5): Dreadful car park - The parking is diabolical with a tiny car park and a lot of cars crammed in. For this reason I would never use this hotel again.
- Joanne (2/5): very dissapointed - The first thing that we noticed when we entered the hotel the smell,it was rather off putting it was a damp musty smell. The door lock to our room was broken and we could not open the door the receptionist did in the end fix it and we were offered a free drink. There was holes in one of the ceilings and the paint work in the room near the window was very dirty please see attached photos the bed was so old I do belive that it was well past it sell by date but probably the only good point was the bath itself was very clean, we went to use the spa for an evening swim and it was closed ,due to the poor overall condition we checked out a day early and to our suprise we were not even asked why by the receptionist please see attached photos and let us know if you find this an acceptable standard we use Hotels.com all the time and have never had these issues before
- Wayne (2/5): Shocking, Dated & Overpriced - Booked a night away for me and my partner, booked on the basis of on site parking and free WiFi in room as well as lobby, no parking available on arrival at all, ended having to park in a free car park away from hotel which is a thieves paradise, partner not good on her legs, spoke to hotel who said parking is limited but isn't stated on ad, WiFi didn't work in room, bed was really uncomfortable, no hot water for a shower, advised manager of this but wouldn't let us cancel booking without charge, hotel is overpriced and dated to say the least, wouldn't stay here again, there are cheaper options and I would advise they are booked instead, wished we had given our experience here, hotel is near pubs and if your a light sleeper you will be kept awake until they close
- Neil (6/5): - M
- Jennifer (10/5): - Excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): Enjoyable short break. - Helpful and friendly staff, quaint and characterful hotel.
- Graham (10/5): Driffield Bell - Excellent staff, warm and friendly welcome, good variation of facilities, fair price
- James (4/5): Over priced. Stick to travelodge - Not worth the money. Dated and in much need of a refurb. Rooms smelt damp and found silverfish in the bathroom.
Bar closed at 10, so no late drinks.
Car park is that small and tight to get out of that I didn't bother on my 2nd night and parked nearby in council car park. If you have anything bigger than a mid size family hatch back for get it.
- Nigel (10/5): Driffield coaching inn - A lovely period coaching house full of character. Set in a lovely town. Great spa facilities and friendly helpful staff.
- James (4/5): Does the cook rule the roost? - A very tired old lady of a hotel with breakfast being terrible as chef/cook would only do what was on the menu. e.g. Wife wished for an omelet after a disastrous first-day breakfast (very salty bacon and fried eggs that you could walk on without breaking the yolks) but the cook said he/she would only cook what was on the menu. Is an omelet not just scrambled eggs in a different guise?
The whole hotel is very old and tired ( quaint in some ways) but the changing rooms at the pool were filthy with showers curtains in particular very grotty. The pool was very cold.
- Lorraine (6/5): Parking not great service poor - Told to finish drinks at reception at 10pm and the lights off in bar. Parking not great at all and waited an hour longer than we wanted to stay as reception didn’t want to contact the other car until 9am as was blocked in
- Julie (8/5): - Traditional hotel with original well maintained features. Friendly and helpful service.
- Sean (10/5): Excellent - Very friendly people made us feel wecome room very pleasing will be staying there again
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Breakfast poor. Room average. Decor poor. Bar closed at 10pm
- craig (4/5): Decent location but in need of work. - Very dated room smell of damp in the executive rooms. Desperately needs some work.
Spa closed before we got there at 7pm, limited opening time, wouldnt have booked it if i had known
- Andrew (4/5): Dated & smelly -
The girl that was working was lovely. Can’t fault the staff at all.
The hotel and room was like we had stepped back into the 1920’s
It was so dated and the room had a really awful smell that we couldn’t get rid off. We opened all the windows to be greeted to an empty can of stellar on the window Sill.
but the smell was still there.
We was booked for two nights, needless to say we only stayed for the one night.
We would have left the first night, but we didn’t get there till 9.40 at night, and nipped straight out for food so by the time we got to the room after our tea it was 11 o’clock so didn’t really have much choice but to stay,
- Sheila (4/5): Old and in need of a refurb - Not old fashioned and quirky, just old. This is a Best Western Hotel and it is In need of a full refurbishment.. Parking is on site but very tight and awkward. The hotel belongs in the 1970s and really all that is missing is putting 50p in the slot for the hot water. Everything is clean but bedding is peach, carpets are brown and curtains are orange. Water scalding hot or cold and shower next to useless. There needs to be some money spent here to bring this hotel up to date in terms of comfort and more focus on customer care.
- Steve (4/5): Very old tired looking hotel - Will not be staying here again, staff was very friendly and the food and drink was ok, but this hotel needs a complete revamp. Yes its old with character but everything is pre 1940's along with every floorboard creaking. I stay in a lot of hotels for work and this is one of the worse for needing some urgent TLC
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hotel, clean, staff polite and cheery.
- Richard (10/5): Great Quirky Hotel. - Great hotel right in the centre of Driffield. Working hard to keep everything moving during the COVID period. Well done keep it up.
- Lindsay (10/5): Nice place - Nice quirky hotel, staff helpful would recommend and stay again. Breakfast was delicious
- Debbie (8/5): - Only slept here one night, the room was average but comfortable. We didn't eat here so cannot comment on the food.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Brilliant hotel, poor WiFi - Beautiful hotel, friendly staff. A really great place to stay. Only thing that massively let it down was the WiFi. I was on a business trip and it prevented me working.
- Jeremy (10/5): Bell Hotel Driffield - Great overnight stay at the Bell Hotel Driffield. Warm welcome on arrival nice comfy room with robe and tea/coffee. Biggest bonus is the spa: pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna all included as well as a large well kitted out gym. Plus full range of spa treatments.
Then the food outstanding breakfast hot and cold with great selection. We also came back for the Sunday carvery which was delicious and very competitively priced. Had no room for a pudding. Very relaxing and enjoyable short stay
- Alan B (10/5): - This is a old building earning a living in driffield
I would stay again when needed
Alan xxx
- Verified traveler (6/5): - upstairs bedroom with siral syaircase and downstairs bathroom. lots of staird to manage luggage.
- Kathryn (8/5): Lousy mattress - The hotel is fascinating. The staff brilliant and the breakfast fab. The room was fine for one night. The bed was horrendous. It was hanging off the base slightly in one side and so soft it was like a water bed. It was ridiculous. Even the slightest movement was emphasised 10 fold. I would stay again but not in that room and certainly not with a bed like that. Ruined the stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We love this property
We have stayed many times
Each room is unique
Lots of character and space in the rooms
Our room this time had a en-suite with a bath and a sitting room
Nice and clean too
- Verified traveler (6/5): Some Updating needed - Would benefit from some modernising, beds and furniture are very dated the room I had in particular bed was so old any movement it would creak and make all sorts of noises, not a great night sleep. I am fully aware it’s an old building and the decor reflects this as that is the period theme but overall facilities and comfort should not be sacrificed for the “look” of the place. As I was there for work the WiFi is poor constantly cuts out or doesn’t load not very useful for emails and last minute Skype calls etc. This is my second stay here and I am booked again in a few weeks so in this area it is the best around as has a gym and spa also very dated equipment borderline dangerous. Lastly parking is a nightmare very small hotel car park about 10 spaces, from my experience usually filled by locals visiting the spa or for various entertainment and lunches the hotel puts on making it an absolute farce when you’ve had a long drive and just want to check in but have to drive around the block a few times till a space is available similarly if an early checkout and you can’t get your car out as other guests in vans or large cars etc understandabley squeeze into any space.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Character, staff, friendly, lovely breakfast, parking
- Irene (10/5): Good food and friendly staff. - Very friendly and helpful staff, food was really good and would recommend the carvery, the floorboards in our room and the corridor were quite uneven and squeaky but never caused a problem. The swimming pool is small but nice and clean, the only negative would be the cramped small car park other than that the Bell was perfect and we would stay there again.
- Geoff (8/5): Good value - 2 overnight stays whilst visiting family 10 mins away room well appointed and clean didn’t use restaurant facilities the gym was s bonus will stay over again in future
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Furnishings very dated but probably in keeping with the age of the property. No lift so not suitable for those with mobility problems. Did not realise when booking that price did not include breakfast, which was an additional cost. Staff very friendly and helpful.
- Paul (4/5): A £50 per night B&B masquerading as a £100 a night - Very disappointed.
Hotel looks like it has had nothing spent on it since 1980.
We had to go down into the cellar area (looked like service areas) to the room.
Room like a fridge. Asked about heating and they apologised and said boiler had tripped off. Well boiler must have stayed tripped off because still no heating.
Breakfast was good - but wouldn't stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All wonderful even during the period of having none of the drinks requested
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Lovely staff, room was clean. Noise was awful as it overlooks a pub that was playing loud music gone midnight.
- Steve (8/5): - Well located for everything around Driffield, which isn't a lot. Hotel fine but a little dated and tired.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel was very clean and nice. We chose to have our evening dinner there which was not a wise move. We also had breakfast in the morning which again was not advisable. Overall the hotel is let down by it's restaurant
- Rebecca (4/5): Fawlty towers !? - Not at all what we expected ! Felt like we had stepped into faulty towers ! 1940’s decor at its best ! Not very clean . Dreadful damp smell . Did not sleep in case the ghosts visited !!
Spa needs a severe update too ! Could do with a clean ... damp in shower room and cobwebs . Safe to say we won’t be visiting again ! Paid for breakfast but did not attend as we were scared enough !! Oh and this was the executive suite so god help the standard room !!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfy clean room, friendly staff, would stay again
- Sheila (6/5): Barely adequate for the price - If you like the ‘gypsy caravan ‘ look then this is the place for you ! More shabby than chic. In desperate need of a lick of paint & a blooming good clean up .
- B (8/5): - Small hotel with good facilities walking distance to railwsy station and in town centre
- Baird (6/5): - A rather tired Hotel in need of some upgrading & decorating
Staff pleasant but on 2 occasions drinks in bar served in dirty glasses one with a distinct lipstick stain on it!
breakfast very good & bed was comfortable
Parking dreadful very tight spaces & difficult to get in & out of
- pattie (6/5): - Well not the fault of the hotel but expedia not sent the booking through so when we got there we had no room luckily they had 1 room left we had travelled 2 and hrs to get here and were attending a ticketed event nr by. The hotel needs a good refirbishment our review was large but bathroom.very small. The bed linen was a horrible colour and the pillow cases were not matching. We paid £90 for this room not worth it. The breakfast ok bacon too hard and my fried egg not runny the lady who served us was really lovely and polite so please tell her thanks.
- Wend (8/5): Last Stay a disappointment compared to previous - Bed too small and uncomfortable, very noisy, although room was reduced I would rather pay more and sleep well. Some staff a little awkward and disrespectful too which is unusual. I’m sure my next stay will improve.
- Chris (8/5): A little 'creaky' but a very comfortable stay. - If you prefer a hotel with 'all mod cons' and a state of the art user experience, The Bell may not be for you. If, on the other hand, you enjoy staying in a good 'olde worlde' establishment, with traditional decor, friendly staff and good service, this may be right up your street. Creaky corridors, lots of wood panelling and a well-stocked bar - plus a swimming pool and spa onsite - all make for a pleasant stay.
I didn't get to eat in the hotel but noticed that Sunday lunch appeared to be popular with guests and locals alike. Situated in the very centre of Driffield, this hotel is definitely one to look at.
- Wendy (10/5): All Great! - Had a lovely time, staff really friendly too. Was pleased with the trip overall and will stay again.
- Steven (10/5): Perfect for a mini break - Spa fine, room good, restaurant excellent, staff superb.
- Brenda (6/5): Old style Hotel in the centre of Driffield - Comfortable Hotel even if rather dated now. The car park is appalling - spaces hard to access, park very small and constantly blocked with a yellow van and other delivery vans, etc. The bedroom was clean and very comfortable and easy access to Driffield main street and shops/cafe's. We booked 2 nights to visit TribFest which we understood from the Web was only a few minutes walk however this festival is now held at Sedgemere Hall which is about 7 miles and a £17 taxi ride away.
- Dawn (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely old hotel in a busy town which actually has shops!
The staff cannot do enough for you. We arrived early and checked if it was OK to leave the car in the car park whilst we went for a wander. They told us we could check in 3 hours early.
The room was lovely with a very comfortable bed and a large bathroom with a bath.
Very quirky downstairs and like a rabbit warren!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Met to a family gathering, but didn't eat ,so can't comment on food.coffee morning looked nice and was very popular !
- kiwi's (8/5): Quirky....in the nicest possible way - Have stayed here before - it hasn't changed a bit. This hotel is really unique, definitely a one off. It has all the flavour of a James Herriot/Heartbeat set including the characters. A truly Yorkshire gem.
