Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hidden Gem - A hidden gem of a hotel. This was our third stay here and we will definitely be back
- Stephen (10/5): - Good
- will (10/5): Comfortable Hotel, helpful staff - Tucked away as Victorian mansion, surrounded by woodland, wooden panelling could have been gloomy, but friendly staff and very comfortable bed made an enjoyable stay. Lift would have been helpful, but guess listed status preclude this. Bar food not brilliant.
- Michael (8/5): Easy travel to both Edinburgh and Glasgow - All good but cooked breakfast was not available as “gas was off” on first morning.
The hotel is in a great position in great surroundings. May be a bit far to walk in to Lanark for some.
- Ian (8/5): - Nice room but tv reception was awful.
- Paul (6/5): Convenient but Dull - Very convenient for my place of work and the staff were very pleasant.
However, the menu choice is limited. The food itself is not great and often arrives missing items from the description.
Very somber atmosphere in the bar during the evening.
- Verified traveler (8/5): First time business stay - Happy to move me to a double bed room on second night, the food was good but it is a limited menu if you want more choice it is a walk in to Lanark itself.
- Emma (8/5): Comfortable hotel, nice setting - This is a nice quiet hotel. The staff were nice and the room very pleasant. It was definitely good value for hotels in the area on the weekend when we travelled. The bed in the hotel room was a little on the small side which was a bit disappointing.
- Nancy (6/5): On the Way to Elsewhere - One night stay in this Victorian interpretation of a medieval castle, which was a bit shabby and in need of an injection of some serious money to live up to its potential. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was adequate.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely hotel, great staff, shame about the bed! - Had a lovely stay at the Cartland Bridge in Lanark. Staff were friendly, hotel looked lovely but dated. Did not sleep well as bed was so uncomfortable and unfortunately our breakfast took ages to arrive. Other than that a lovely short stay.
- John (4/5): Disappointing - Arrived at the hotel and the exterior looked like a proper country hotel and though we had struck lucky. Checked in to be told the restaurant was closed due to a wedding the next day. So we were treated to some very mediocre bar food..not good. There had been a funeral the day before our stay and the bar stock was low, no basics like diet lemonade. Our bedroom was fine but with quite a dated bathroom. The breakfast was awful, dry over cooked full Scottish gruel. But I think what really summed up my stay and the attitude of the hotel staff was the member of staff sitting on the reception counter talking to the receptionist, now that is touch of class you do not see every da. One word describes our stay.........disappointing.
- b (10/5): Cartland Bridge Hotel - Stunning hotel in beautiful grounds. Friendly staff, great service.
- Christine (10/5): Excellent - Lovely, characterful hotel in pleasant grounds, with friendly and helpful staff, spotlessly clean and comfortable room and excellent breakfast. Would highly recommend.
- Neil (6/5): Very poor - Set in a beautiful quiet area, first impression great , good fast check in, down hill from there, poor food and flat lager, uncomfortable bed, leans one way , then to top it off I ordered my breakfast at 7.10 but did not get it until 7.55.
Will not be staying again
- angela (10/5): fantastic - great characteristic hotel
- dean (10/5): all good - all very good enjoyed our stay
- Duncan (8/5): - Lovely setting: leafy and quiet and in a beautiful surrounding. Beds and room comfortable. Breakfast good taking into account our dietary needs. Interesting hotel. I loved the Captain's office with its port hole window and fittings. The area of Lanark is lovely too, with rolling countryside and also New Lanark and the Falls of Clyde nearby. Could you want for anything more?
- KEITH (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay , staff very nice and good food. Lovely large room.
- JOHN (8/5): - Stayed for two days on business and room was large and good views and great location etc and plenty of parking
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was a perfect place for us to break up our journey. We were looking for something other than the typical mass market hotel and this certainly filled the bill. I was particularly impressed with the friendly and helpful staff.
- Linda (10/5): - This is a really interesting hotel with a history. The staff where so pleasant and helpful. I would like to go again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quiet retreat with a touch of class - The staff were very friendly and helpful and our room was light and airy. The breakfast was good too which set us up for a day round New Lanark and a walk to the Falls of Clyde. A very pleasant and relaxing stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Interesting place, has many stories to tell. Forrest setting.
- John (8/5): - Very friendly, comfortable and good value for money. Good food, will use it again.
- kristina (10/5): - My husband and I arrived late and were pleasantly greeted by the staff. Breakfast was good and the hotel was clean.
- Graham (10/5): Hidden gem of a hotel - A great hidden gem of a hotel. Good food, great service and a great feel about the old property. Definitely worth a visit.
- Adrian (10/5): Nice breakfast. - Food and service were great. Bed was a little hard.
Stunning building and surroundings, local Italian opposite church was fantastic.
- Catherine (8/5): Feedback - Hotel grounds and facility well kept but bit awkward to get to rooms as no lift
Staff very friendly but not all completely aware of operational routine. For instance, when we asked front desk for glassware to use in rooms (housekeeping had not provided) there was some confusion with finding
When we checked out, the prepayment had not been processed and front desk wasn’t sure how to handle
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This is a fine building in a wonderful location. The staff were friendly, helpful and bright. Sadly the building needs an internal make over. Too dark and very 70s. Meals were good but the odd let down like poor bread. Condition ok but public areas too hot and minor items need repair, the odd drifting toilet seat or window stuck. Excellent for a one or two night stay. No longer.
- Verified traveler (8/5): In Stadtnähe, aber ruhig gelegen - Guter Empfang
Gutes Abendessen
Außer Abreise, alles okay
- Stuart (6/5): D A T E D - just here for the one night room very big but also dated and the bathroom was even more dated. No hot water in the morning either from the shower or the taps. Meal at night was fine never had breakfast
- Andrew (10/5): - Lovely hotel to stay and very quiet place and lovely view of fields. Good staffs attitude as we are deaf customers.
- cd231178 (4/5): Poor - We spent a night recently which we had managed to only source and book through Expedia for a function we were attending. The hotel told us hotel was full when i booked through expedia and they had major issue on why they were still selling space, although it got sorted before we arrived. We were however put up in the cottage at the main road entrance so a noisy location and a two minute walk in very badly lit road to get the main hotel. If you are staying more than one night would recommend against it. Badly in need of updating as it looks like a throwback to early 80s. Could be nice if money spent on it. Meal was just about ok as was breakfast but staff seemed a bit all over the place and disorganised. Short of table space if most people turn up for breakfast at same time and overspilled into the bar, it can akso take an hour or so to get the hot breakfast order.Staff we did speak to at reception pleasant enough. Overall probably not value for money at around the £120 mark through expedia, believe it is nearer £90 if you can book direct but still i would still feel over charged. At best a 2-3 star.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Character Hotel in pleasant grounds - Pleasant relaxing Hotel which met most of my requirements. The room was well appointed and spacious but the bed was firmer than I prefer although I slept well enough.
The evening meal left a little to be desired with some dishes off the menu but the breakfast was very good with lots of choice.
- Owen (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Patricia (10/5): Enjoyable - We arrived to a warm and welcoming staff. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds. There was a well lit log fire set in a comfortable hallway. Our room was warm and comfortable and everything you expect on your stay. We had a very nice tasty meal at reasonable price. Will certainly be staying again in the future.
- David (10/5): - Beautiful setting in its own grounds. A very impressive looking hotel that does not disappoint when you walk in. Lovely public areas and a large room that was well appointed and had an homely feel to it. I was on a business trip. But would go back for a weekend stay. Just so I can enjoy the food again.
- Rich (8/5): Distinctive hotel with grounds and views - Good food, ideal location for touring with distinctive features.
- spike (8/5): Visit to Lanark - Period hotel could do with updating the bathroom. Very clean and quiet. Perfect for unwinding
- tony (6/5): Lanark stay over - Business trip set in lovely grounds
- Sue (6/5): Beautiful hotel and location, shame about the food - The hotel is set in lovely grounds, is very peaceful and beautifully kept. Can see why it is a wedding venue. However we did not like the food, it was very much pub grub, it did not fit in with the surroundings. It lacked a little finesse. We live in Kent where completion is fierce within the catering trade and even our pubs have had to up their game. with a little tweaking it could be better.
- mark (10/5): hotel with character... - Fabulous building, friendly staff. Good food. Freshly cooked breakfast.
- Wayne (8/5): Just an overnight stay - I needed a room for the night in Lanark, which doesn't have many hotels or b&bs. The Cartland Bridge is a short taxi ride out of town. It's a beautiful old Manor house with a lovely wooden staircase leading to the rooms upstairs. My room was small but comfortable and quiet. The heating was more than adequate and I had to turn it down. The sash window could not be held open so there was a lack of ventilation.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The night porter brought a pot of tea to my room when I arrived late.
I would love to stay for a longer visit to enjoy the hotel and surroundings a bit more.
- John (8/5): Great building - clean hotel Friendly staff
- Mary (10/5): Cartland Bridge Hotel. - A beautiful hotel I would recommend to anybody. Everything was perfect and the meal we had was most enjoyable. I could have stayed here a week quite easily, loved it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff very pleasant, food okay, room clean, bed comfortable.
- Mark (8/5): Nice hotel - Good standards all round but nothing to go WOW about. Staff all friendly and helpful and food was great.
- KE (8/5): A very short visit - We arrived late in the evening and left quite early in the morning; we therefore did not eat in the hotel. However we were impressed with the Reception staff, we felt our room was very clean, very well presented and the beds were extremely comfortable.
As always the crucial test is.......would we return here if the opportunity arose? The answer is a definite yes!
- lindylou45 (10/5): Lovely atmosphere, staff, and room/bed - Stayed 3 nights (different dates) this month. So comfy and relaxing I slept in for the first time in years - and I am a very poor sleeper! Result? Booked another lovely relaxing night! Staff lovely. Recommend 100%
- Jocie (10/5): Lovely Country House Hotel - A lovely hotel in a lovely rural location. Was pleasantly surprised and delighted with the room upgrade. The full Scottish breakfast was excellent with everything cooked to perfection. Overall a really nice one night stay. Highly recommended.
