Seulement toutes les plages environnantes sont payantes et très peu d'activités à faire aux alentours. C'est le secteur qu'on à le moins aimé de notre voyage au Costa Rica. Le personnel de cet établissement semble inexistant. On nous a donné les clefs de la chambre et on a jamais su à qui les rendre. On ne voyait personne. Comme une propriété à l'abandon. Pourtant un énorme potentiel. Proche de très bon restaurant, mais plutôt chers.

- Fernando (10/5): Ajado, no vale el dinero que cobran. - El lugar está ajado y destartalado, no vale el precio de U$100 que pagamos por la cabaña con cocina y aire acondicionado. El baño estaba limpio, la cocina y el dormitorio también. Pero todo muy antiguo, la llave del lavamanos se desarmaba, la ducha es eléctrica y la cama con un colchón muy blando y usado. En la cocina ninguna puerta ni cajón cerraban y en alguna de las ventanas faltaban vidrios. El refrigerador y el aire acondicionado funcionaban muy bien. La piscina también estaba bien. La recepcionista muy bien, muy amable y atenta, si no es por ella nuestra evaluación seria peor, fue muy amable y nos dejó hacer un check out mas tarde. El wifi funcionaba bien.

There was a nice outdoor kitchen/refrigerator. It’s simple but served our needs just fine. However there was no hot water which for us was ok because it was so hot.
- Marco (10/5): - Wenn man sich entspannt zurück ziehen möchte und einfach Mal die Tage genießen möchte,dann ist man hier genau richtig! Einkaufen und Restaurant besuche sind auch fußläufig möglich. Das Personal ist sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

- Nathaniel (6/5): - This property is still recovering from Covid closures. The restaurant and bar are not open but it is less than a 5 minute drive to some of the best restaurants in Ojochal. However, The room was nice, the bed comfortable, and the pool was delightful. Overall, the property needs a little TLC but it was fine for the couple of days we were there.
- randahl2021 (2/5): We Will Never Come Back Here Again! - This place has seen better days. We stayed here 14 years ago, when Pierre and Renné took care of it and really loved it. The place has been poorly maintained. The owner didn't even bother to approach us, introduce himself or welcome us. He just walked passed us as if we didn't exist. The fridge and coffee maker were broken. The pool was filthy. The website said there was a restaurant. There is not. Tge internet didn't work in our room. We had a difficult time finding staff to give us little things like toilet paper and light bulbs. During our 5 days there, we noticed other cabins didn't have running water or a working fridge. The sweet resident dog is left in the office unattended overnight. To top it all off, we were double charged and could not get a reply from them to get our money back. We are now working with VISA to get this problem fixed. Do not come here!
- Nancy (10/5): - Unlike many accommodations near the Pacific Ocean, Diquis De Sur has spacious grounds, which are beautifully landscaped, as well as fascinating flora and fauna. Both the owner and host were friendly and literally went the extra mile to meet our needs. We arrived with no car. So they drove us to local spots in the area.
- Tom (4/5): - The property still has a nice setting but the owner has let it degrade. Despite saying on your site that it offers a continental breakfast, it no longer does. The toilet seat was broken. The shower is slippery and dangerous with no hand rails. The cabin was not equipped with a stove or even a coffee maker and it took two days of asking to get one. The pool was dirty. The workers were on-existant.
- 630sarahm (4/5): Lovely location- needs some attention / love - The reviews speak for themselves. Hopefully the owner/ manager will try and give this place some love. I suspect maybe covid or something has played a part in running this down and not enough (or not quickly enough) is being done to salvage… Positives- the grounds and landscaping is beautiful. The insects are the loudest I’ve ever heard. The space is ample with parking, washing line. Outdoor BBQ (for room 6) Negatives - owner didn’t get out of seat when we arrived despite there being bad news (1.5hr wait to sort out room- post check in time) and no cold drinks- the restaurant is shut but he just pointed out that there is a supermarket in town (I would expect any hotel to be able to provide a cold glass of water.) The room was of a very poor standard (shame as we booked for a special occasion). Quite mouldy and dark, slats missing from the window vents so heat and AC hard to manage. The main kitchen light was out and fan (which I think I read in a review in 2021) so clearly not a priority. Overall low standard to be self catering but no breakfast or bar on site. Car needed really as it would be a challenge to get food and drinks from supermarket up the gravel road for 2kms Local restaurants great and location is as described. I hope they get this place back on its feet!

- 704greggn (2/5): disappointed - rm #6 . kitchen had no soap for dishes ( we were in the rm with a kitchen, but it was a terrible kitchen , could not see at nite due to low wattage bulb in the only light in the ceiling fan) refrig was dirty , no dish towels , dead bugs and dirt in cabinets , 2 burner cook top was loose and not secured to cabinet top and Greasy , no toiletries , just TP, in bath room and thats it. no breakfast, no one there 24 hours. pool was dirty , booked for a week , and checked out after 4 nites and moved to a better place. not sure where the 4.5 rating came from ( note alot of reviews were from several years ago) you will not be satisfied , trust me it is not as good as the reviews show. only decent thing we got was internet. PERIOD

- Luis_BI (2/5): not prepared to receive guests, look for other options - 1. Booked villa for 6 with kitchenette but it is simply an old fridge and a gas stove located outside the cabin. Worn beds, very old plastic table.. No utensils at all to cook and just 2 knives, 3 forks, 2 spoons, 4 cups, 3 glasses....(for a reservation for 6...) 2. No toilet paper (are you kidding!), when asked gave me a half used opened roll. 3. After heavy rain toilets were not working, probably due to poor drainage installation 4. Swimming pool not adequately cleaned 5. Gardens not well maintained 6. Just one staff at front desk with not enough experience 7. Restaurant closed. My overall impression: hotel may be under low booking and was not investing enough in regular running staff operations. They need to decide if they need close the hotel for a while or if they really want to be ready for guests.... The hotel cost is below average in the area... but.... for saving some few money per night we really had a terrible experience. The cost:benefit ratio of this hotel is bad. Decided to leave that same day and owner/manager was not friendly at all, returned our money without apologies or any consideration to our terrible experience.

- toddh67 (10/5): A beautiful night at Diquis Del Sur - We decided to stay the night in Ojochal recently, and picked Diquis Del Sur because we had visited it 5 years back and remembered how impressive it was. It was nicer than we remembered, and the plants and trees are stunning. Many fruit trees were in production. You could spend hours walking around the property if you are interested in plants or birds. The cabin was simple yet very clean and comfortable, and air conditioning wasn't needed. The patio of the cabin was a nice spot to sit and relax. The Tico style breakfast was delicious, as was the coffee. It was some of the best gallo pinto that we've had. If you are looking for a reasonably placed location with private cabins, beautiful grounds and a delicious breakfast, Diquis Del Sur may be perfect.
- EBAIBA67 (4/5): 🥴 - We were unhappy with our villa. We thought we booked with kitchenette. Might be our mistake. But compared to other villas in this area, this place needs an update. One matras was totally worn out, no back support. Some electricity switches not ok. The house just felt unclean. A refrigerator outside, but totally worn-out. Reception was friendly as well as the parrot. We managed to make a deal and cancel the second night.

- johnhQ7998PJ (6/5): Laid back and relaxing - I had booked a two-night stay at a different nearby hotel, but wasn't able to stay there because they were unexpectedly temporarily closed so they booked me at Diquis Del Sur. The staff at Diquis Del Sur were super friendly and nice. The room was adequate--no TV, no AC, and the mattress seemed thin and well-worn, as I could feel the bedsprings and it wasn't the most comfortable. Wifi didn't work in the room, but it worked at the pool and restaurant areas. I was hoping Diquis Del Sur would have a full restaurant so I wouldn't have to drive for dinner, but I found some nearby places to eat. I did get a beer and drink at Diquis Del Sur to hang at the pool and watch the sunset from the upper deck. Breakfasts were fine. I loved the mix of music they played--songs I hadn't heard for years and some new ones, too.

Luis served us drinks poolside and pointed out howler monkeys and various fruits and plants. Wilmer traded language tips and steered us to pre-Columbian stone spheres and museum. Included breakfast was lovely and decorated with flowers. We had a great meal just down the road at Exotica. Guests: Pack an extension cord and/or headlamp for better vision at night. Staff: Foreign guests are sure to expect prompt daily removal of used TP. We added a night to our stay after the first, and we will return to further explore the area.

- PFV86 (6/5): It was ok, but nothing fancy. - We arrived on 3/10/2018 in the afternoon. In general, the place is nice with lots of green areas and they even have fruit trees for you to enjoy. Rooms are ok, nothing fancy. But I did find a few things I did not feel comfortable with: 1- I payed extra money for A/C which was not working in one of the rooms. Luckily, they agreed on a refund as i payed extra for the A/C. However, they did not offer us an extra fan instead of the faulty A/C, and trust me you need a fan in that place as it is very hot in there. 2- Room was dusty. It was everywhere, under the bed, in the sheets, in the furniture, in the windows, in the ceiling. I mean, I was expecting a bit of dust as this place is located in the woods, but the room sure looked kind of dirty. 3-The sheets on every bed had stains and i am certain they are very very old. Some had holes and smelled like somebody else used them the day before. 4-The restaurant is not open all day. And you have to reserve if you want to eat there at night. Only wish they mention that when I booked, or when I checked in. On the bright side, everyone was friendly, breakfast was tasty and the place is near beaches and waterfalls. Place is a bit pricey though. I would have expected more attention to details for that kind of money.
- 737DaveS (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Possibly the best place we have stayed in Costa Rica. Beautiful setting but the rooms vary with price. We had booked the cheapest which costs 55 US dollars a night (rooms 9a and b which share a kitchen). We decided this was too dark and small so moved to room 8 which was 95 dollars a night. Much bigger and lighter with a terrace with great views. The gardens are lovely and the pool area good. The hotel dog, Wendy, is very friendly. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Safe deposit if you hand stuff in at reception.

- laluna31 (10/5): Affordable Villas on a beautiful property - We arrived as the sun was setting for a one night stay. We had a 4 x 4 rented to get here, but I think a standard vehicle should be able to handle it. We had a two bedroom villa without kitchen. The villa was clean and to a 3 star motel standard which suited our needs. This was an affordable stay for a group of 5. The grounds were pretty and I wish I had more time to explore them. My daughter enjoyed the pool and we were able to order a light dinner. Good English was spoken by our greeter/waiter. Breakfast was good and we appreciated the move up in time by 15 minutes so that we could go zip lining and still have breakfast. I would happily return, but stay a few more nights to better enjoy this hidden gem.
- dale (2/5): Run down and not clean - No power, thus no a/c, fan, or internet upon arrival. Mold on the corner of the bed closest to the window. Owner not on-site, staff tried to be accommodating, but I would rather sleep in my car than spend the money to sleep here, enough said.
- dominiquebovey (8/5): A quiet and relaxing place! - A few 2 room bungalows scattered in a well-tended garden, a clean and refreshing pool, and a shaded Rancho with an elevated veranda ideal for watching sunsets or the lightning strikes of the rainy season thunderstorms. The breakfast is a fixed dish that changes everyday, with some lack of flexibility to adjust to vg diet in our case. And don't count on continental breakfast (which maybe due to low season), although there are cereals in any case. Finally, all in all the nice Canadian managers do a good job and are very welcoming.

- 979StarS (10/5): Love this place!!!! - Looking for peace and quiet? The cabin I was in had a front porch with a swing, no AC, no TV and nothing but just the peace and quiet of the jungle. Javier was an awesome host and I would recommend this lovely location to anyone. They have a fantastic breakfast and there are plenty of great local spots for lunch and dinner. If you are looking for a lot to do, I would not recommend Ojochal but if you are looking for silent reflection, a nice pool and a welcoming environment, this is it! A little rough to get to but totally and completely worth it.
- J9521ULpeterw (10/5): Beautiful Resort - My wife and I spent 7 days at this lovely resort celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We rented a house, but were able to enjoy the facilities too. The pool is very nice and we enjoyed breakfast each morning under the cabana. Javier and the staff are excellent hosts. We loved it here!
- 743franceb (10/5): Quiet spot close to the sea - We stayed 4 nights as a family. The rooms were spacious and well kept. The american-style breakfast was varied and delicious, with fresh fruit each morning. The grounds are lovely - with a nice garden, pool, small play area for kids. We liked being close to all the fun surf towns while being able to retreat to a quiet place for the evenings. A great place to visit the bellena national park. The staff were discreet and welcoming. We took advantage of the kitchens in the rooms to cook our own dinners after long days visiting and with kids too tired for restaurants. This is a great options - though the equipment in the kitchen is limited and rudimentary - but we were still able to make dinners and there was a good side fridge and freezer. Would certainly stay there again!

The hotel is well maintained. Clean, nice pool, no airconditioning, smal bathroom, nice garden with beach view. We would come again.
- carolcR4463QK (10/5): A peaceful and lovely spot offering good value - Overall, we had a very good 4-day stay at Diquis Del Sur. It is nicely situated in the hills of the Ojochal area, just a few minutes (bumpy) drive from some excellent restaurants, a small supermarket, and several gorgeous beaches. The hotel grounds are lush and fragrant, and there is a very nice pool. Javier, the manager, was extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfasts (and bottomless coffee!) were tasty, served in the hotel's pleasant and airy dining/lounging area (the "ranch"). Each day we were greeted by Wendy, the friendly and wiggly hotel pooch! Our room was simple but clean, with a little outdoor patio perfect for taking in the beauty of the surrounding area. A couple of recommendations for dining, as we had some wonderful meals at two restaurants in the surrounding area (the hotel's restaurant wasn't offering dinner during off season). 1) TERRABA. It's on the main coastal road a few minutes from the Ojochal turnoff. This friendly, family-owned local restaurant served us excellent food that rivaled anything I've eaten in a major city, including filet mignon! Their prices were very reasonable too. 2) EXOTICA This restaurant is a quick drive around the corner from Diquis. The food is international and very imaginative, and the terrace setting is like a twinkly slice of Paris. The French owners, Lucy and her husband, were extremely welcoming and warm and fit us in despite us not having a reservation.
- MartinCATO (8/5): TOUCAN house -- a great spot with some minor issues - We didn't stay in one of the regular units of Diquis but in the Toucan house, located just outside the main property (a short walk). First let me clear up two points of confusion that our party had about it, based on the website. Staying at the Toucan does not entitle you to free breakfast; the Toucan has a kitchen of its own, though, and you can easily fix your own breakfast and eat on the large covered patio. We fixed many dinners as well. The other misconception we had was that the Toucan has three bathrooms. Here is what it actually has: one full bathroom located between the two main bedrooms and accessible from both sides, a second, semi-private full bathroom located in the un-air-conditioned casita, and a toilet located in the laundry closet, which is OK for kids and emergencies. There's also an open cold-water shower next to the pool. There was a heat wave while we were there. The air conditioning is in the two main bedrooms only, so if it's a hot day, all the bathrooms and the kitchen can be swelteringly hot; however, you can always take a dip in the pool or cool off in the two main bedrooms. The big pluses of the Toucan are the covered patio and the private swimming pool, both of which are surrounded by mature garden that is not far from wild area and has a lovely view of the mountains. Swimming/sitting there, you see mostly beautiful vegetation and many birds, including three species of hummingbirds, toucans and if you're lucky, scarlet macaws and parrots flying overhead. More birds, and howler monkeys too, can be found by exploring the grounds. A few unwelcome bugs invaded our space -- one scary-looking locust, for instance -- but there were almost no mosquitoes, and the little geckoes on the bedroom ceiling seemed to be taking care of the bugs inside (we saw almost none). The Toucan is also a good base for enjoying the surrounding area if you have a car. Without a car I think you'd be pretty stuck at this location, as the town of Ojochal is extremely spread out and the Diquis restaurant is pleasant to sit it but quite expensive for what you get. Diquis can arrange a rental from Solid Rent a Car and have it delivered to the property, if you like. Unfortunately we had various problems with Solid, to the point where we cancelled our rental with them on the subsequent part of our trip. I would suggest renting from a different company at the SJO airport and driving, so long as you can do the entire drive in daylight. I do believe it's dangerous after dark. (Another warning: Be very careful swimming at local beaches; people do drown there. Swim at green-flagged beaches only and don't go out past the point you can easily stand.) The beds didn't look like much when we arrived but proved to be quite comfortable. The kitchen was not well-equipped but does have enough things in it to cook with, including a gas stove, a coffee maker, a microwave, a blender and a toaster. The swimming pool was maintained daily. The housecleaning was irregular and spotty. I'd bring flip-flops for walking on the patio and inside too because the floors aren't what you'd call spotless. The washing machine works fine, and they provide detergent. There's a clothesline at the back, beside the calabash trees. In short the Toucan is not luxurious, but the pool and the patio, in combination with the lush landscaping, make it a very good place to hang out (maybe with a pair of binoculars), provided you're not one of those who needs a place to be spotlessly clean or bug-free. It is clean enough for most, and the bugs were surprisingly few. If you have a rental car, you'll find most of what you need in Uvita, a 15-minute drive away. It's a tiny bit of an adventure staying there, but generally easy and comfortable. A good choice for families and workable for two couples or possibly even three.
- X3074DEsandraw (10/5): Perfect for us! - We really enjoyed our 9 day stay at Diquis. It was quiet, and peaceful but very nice to meet other guests at the pool or restaurant during breakfast. Every day we looked forward to a yummy breakfast and several times we also had dinner there. The cabin had a furnished kitchen, but with so many good restaurants around , we chose to eat out. The management was very helpful in planning an extra excursion for us and in making us feel welcome. Every morning, we especially enjoyed sitting on our patio and listening to the hollar monkeys, parrots, toucans, and other birds as we enjoyed some great Costa Rican coffee. The flora at Diquis is amazing!
