Kirsten (10/5): - At this price range it would be hard to find a better stay in this area. The room had a mountain view and there was a nice little lounge area with a fire pit under a lovely tree. It was a great way to relax before bed. There was also a separate heating system in the bathroom which was much appreciated on a chilly morning. This is not the fanciest place one could stay in the area, but the owners have made an effort to make it welcoming.

Kathy (10/5): - This hotel reminded me of a mom and pop hotel. The staff was super friendly. A nice younger guy checked us in. He was really friendly. There is a restaurant on the property and they have a small bar. The waitress and the restaurant manager were both very nice. We only had appetizers and one drink each, but it was very good. The room looked exactly like it did in the pictures. It was very clean and the bathroom was spacious. The carpet had a couple of little stains, almost like somebody had dripped coffee but nothing major. The air conditioning was a window unit, which was fine, but I would have liked to have had a film on the windows so you couldn’t see in. When you closed the curtain all the way you didn’t fill the air as well. The room still stayed cool. The bad was very comfortable.The town has a couple of other little restaurants. It’s about 20 min from Banner Elk and 40 from Blowing Rock. The town definitely is not a tourist destination but we felt safe. I would stay here again.

Ashley (4/5): - A must read review! My fiance and I, stayed the weekend at Shady Lawn. We rented a king room and were given a room at the very front of the hotel and figured the sound of traffic would not let us rest so we ask to change to a different room on the upper part of the hotel. We were told all that was available was a double bed and all the king rooms were at the front of the hotel which is close to the road. We accepted the double bed room. Without a doubt we were given the worst condition room in the entire place i wanted to cancel my reservation then but knew that it might be impossible to find another hotel with availability so we stayed. The carpet in the room was nasty, stained, had torn places even turned our feet brown on the bottom. We found a fake eye lash stuck on one of the comforters, stained mattress cover, trash in bathroom, ceiling falling and leaking in the closet, the main door would hardly latch and the fact they dont have dead bolts on the door is a little concerning. Mattresses are worn out and beds sit low to the floor. After checking out i noticed a $56 charge to my credit card I called ask why the gentleman was very nice and said it was a fee for changing rooms and he would refund it which he did. It really bothered me they charged my card without my permission so I spoke to the owner and ask for a partial refund because of the condition of the room and he refused. He said you received a discount, NO!! I paid what Expedia advertised!! and a trashy room! Als

Very helpful and caring. - We stayed here for the first time on 8/30/25 through 8/31/25 The owners Nathan and Suzannah Gittner were absolutley awesome! As well as all the employees we met. Very helpful and caring. This was the best sleep we've had at any motel/Inn we've stayed in. Great mattress! The restaraunt has some great Cheesburgers! We will be back, good Lord willing. This is a very old motel that has been poorly decorated with mismatched furniture too large for the small room (toe stubbing is almost guaranteed), floors that aren't level, making the beds tilted so your head is lower than your feet, and poorly designed bathrooms with a toilet crammed in so tightly that it's almost impossible to "complete your business". The television gets about three real channels of "entertainment" (none of which were of any interest) and the rest are infomercials. There was no working air conditioning so the windows had to be left open all night allowing all the street noise and loud guests to awaken us constantly. The faucet in the room was so loose it was falling out of the sink top. Worst of all, to top it all off, there was ZERO HOT WATER, making it impossible to bathe in the morning. After calling the "office" in the morning, I find out that there is nobody to help with such things and nobody available until after 9:00 am for any assistance of any kind. We had to leave before that time..... so no shower. I called and left three messages for them to call me, and NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK. After doing a little research, there are many name brand hotels nearby that are much nicer and newer that have 24 hour front desk service, and are cheaper. I'd suggest you think long and hard about committing even one night of your hard earned vacation here.

There was even a fire pit area for the guest. The restaurant had just reopened and we had a nice meal there. I would highly recommend this for a nice get away!

Their newly opened restaurant is very convenient, had good food and Suzzannah and her staff were so nice. I would recommend staying here if you’re in the area.
Robert (8/5): A little disappointed…. - I had rented a premium room and when i called the hotel to let them know i was going to be late getting there i was told they would leave the key in the room and leave the room unlocked and then gave me the room number. This was fine with me. Well i then received a call saying that the room they gave me was wrong and that they would have to change it, do to the fact someone was sleeping in it. They had no more premium rooms and would have to downgrade me. And they had no upgrades to give me. This frustrated me some do to the fact that me and my wife was trying to get away to the mountains for the weekend.

The staff was very friendly and even allowed us to check in an hour early due to the cold and snowy weather on Friday, January 3rd. The cleanliness of the rooms is impeccable, and the staff deserves 5 stars for their attentiveness. However, unfortunately, we couldn’t get a good night’s rest because of the air conditioning unit. It’s an old model that makes a lot of noise, and we couldn’t sleep. We tried turning it off, but it didn’t work, which made the night quite uncomfortable. Luckily, we only stayed one night because staying longer would have been impossible. For this reason, although the service and cleanliness were excellent, I’m giving it 3 stars.

Autumn (10/5): Great stay! - The Inn was great! We were in a king suite that was huge. Great living room area and big comfy king bed. Plenty of room with nice touches for us and our pup. The staff was fantastic.

Brandon (2/5): - Booked a room for me and some friends while snowboarding around 6pm we show up around midnight and we’re greeted by a very intoxicated man who claims to had called the boss and then told us no rooms were available after we had already paid 150$ for our room and said their was nothing he could do to help us and then recorded us the whole way back to our car, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone and I’ve never left a review on anything before.

Rocky (6/5): Smells funny - Was just OK. Overheard a conversation that the room had a smell and needed further cleaning. Waited another hour. Went I. And window was open but still a smell. Nowhere else to stay so I just put up with it. Learning to always have Lysol with me on a business trip!

Deborah (8/5): - My hat goes off to the area for doing the best they can do do too the effects from a massive hurricane weeks prior. So there wasn't as many businesses open do to being flooded out. Room was clean and staff was great. We'd stay again.
Owen (10/5): Just What I Needed! - I booked a Single Room for a 2 night stay with my Beagle to getaway for a little. Everyone was so nice that works at the Inn! Plenty of spots to walk my dog (not to mention all the mountains around) and the room was just what I needed! Clean and comfortable. Thanks again!

Eddie (10/5): good stay. - It has been remodeled and they did an excellent job! It looks like the quality a person would demand if it were being done in their own home. The beds were SO comfortable! and the pillows too. I would stay again in a heartbeat. The staff is very friendly and could not be more helpful. The rooms are small.
Michelle (10/5): I would definitely stay here again - This may be an older place to stay, but the room was exceptionally clean. They have done some recent upgrades, and everything looks very nice. The shower was spacious and had good shower pressure. There was a large closet to place luggage and belongings out of the way. The 2 people at the front desk I interacted with were very nice and personable. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area! The only thing I might add would be some USB lamps or clocks with charging stations in them. My husband forgot a wall charger to charge his phone. But those items might take away from the overall ambience of the place., but it would've been convenient. It really was great.
Barbra (8/5): - The owners were super friendly and helpful. We loved our stay but the carpets are needing replacement as they are outdated and worn. The bathroom was updated though with a newer shower. We would stay here again as the price was right for what it was a mountain inn in a small mountain town.

Michele (4/5): Of the room was cleaner and safer I’d stay again - Nice staff Dirty carpet in room (it was really bad-you could see stains everywhere) old mattresses and window air conditioner that didn’t work properly. I also felt unsafe as the only lock was turning the button on the doorknob. I couldn’t sleep all night thinking someone could literally kick the door in with ease. There’s not even a deadbolt.
