The hotel is older-floorboards in our room had rough areas, hot water shower control didn’t work well, couldn’t switch between showerheads. Body lotion, liquid body/hand soap provided, but no shampoo. Towels are very thin. There is construction,with a crane, outside window but that was ok. City nice to explore & the Basel City card from hotel provides free public transport

The only criticism that I have is the pillows. We only got one each and was lacking volume. The staff were so nice & friendly. Breakfast was included and it satisfied our hunger. We love the location. Thank you.

Il letto della singola era molto confortevole e il bagno spazioso, moderno e pulito. Consiglierei solo l’installazione di aria condizionata per praticità, ma il grande ventilatore in dotazione era comunque sufficiente ad arieggiare.
• Curious768505 (8/5): Great place to eat by the river. - Only ate here. Had a great meal. Service was quick despite it being busy. It was teeming it down with rain but we ate under cover outside with a view if the river. Food was lovely and nice beer too. Basel is expensive so eating out is not cheap, so be prepared to pay upwards of about £26 for a burger... This is well worth a visit to eat. Toilets immaculate too!

Lungo il fiume vi sono vari locali, affollati durante il tramonto. La struttura è molto carina, stanza spaziosa e luminosa. In struttura vi erano inoltre varie persone che parlavano italiano e la colazione insulsa era buona. Lo staff è molto cordiale ed efficiente.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Mit Charme und schön gelegen - Das sehr individuelle, charmante Hotel ist wunderbar in der Altstadt und direkt am Rhein gelegen, und vom badischen Bahnhof direkt mit der Straßenbahn erreichbar. Da mir bei Ankunft gleich die Baselcard überreicht wurde, konnte ich mit Straßenbahnen und Bussen alle Ziele in der Stadt erreichen, ohne mich um Tickets und Tarifringe kümmern zu müssen. Zwar gingen die Fenster meines Zimmers auf einen Innenhof, das wusste ich aber bei der Buchung und wurde durch die gelungene Gestaltung und den Topzustand des Zimmers voll aufgewogen.
• Hwee Chong (8/5): - Personal ist super freundlich und höflich, auch sehr hilfsbereit. Die Lage ist zentral, daher freitag abends ist etwas laut. Charmante Altbau, daher der Boden quietscht auch sehr unangenehm, ich habe mich so gefürchtet, ich störe die Gäste unten.

• Stephanie (6/5): - This is a very hard review to write because the hotel was lovely. This is a great place for someone that wants to party into the night and then crash in their comfy bed. We were very happy with our peaceful room overlooking the Rhine River. Located right along the river walk for a lovely stroll, close to old town and shopping. We were there for the Christmas Markets and reserved a couple of extra days to explore Basel at the end of our River Cruise. Everything was perfect until 9pm rolled around and the club below the hotel started pounding music that was near impossible to get to sleep to. Even noise cancelling headsets didn't work as the walls were vibrating with dance tunes. We got very little rest especially on our last night then heading out to an overseas 14 hour journey. Not ideal. Breakfast was excellent, the staff were excellent. The place is also located along the Christmas Market party block - lots of folks enjoying a good night out. The club below with booming music was the problem.
• Amy (8/5): Great location! - The location of the East-West Riverside is amazing. Very convenient to many of Basel's tourist areas and has beautiful views of the river. It's clean, and well-kept with modern furnishings and decor. There was a small Christmas market (just food and beverages) right outside the front door of the hotel that we really enjoyed (early December). Breakfast was good but minimal, like an American continental breakfast. Only 2 complaints: flat pillows and the room was always too hot. We kept a window cracked open much of the time. But the pillows were an issue. They only give you one per person but it was so flat it's like not having one at all. I would highly recommend, just bring your own pillows.

• Louis (10/5): Great Location Staff and Breakfast - Great Location, Great service and Breakfast. Hotel is old but very clean. It was comfortable but was a bit noisy due to all the trams running by. We did sleep pretty well anyway :-) Very walkable to old town :-)

• ELVA (10/5): Exceptional place! - When we checked in to our rooms, we were not happy that we were put in an inside room with a view of the elevator, we had booked canal view. We were immediately moved to the rooms we booked and had a wonderful stay!
• Verified traveler (8/5): Quiet room - I got a room with windows inwards to the elevator and it felt a bit claustrophobic not to be able to see out and open the window- But, it was so so quiet and relaxing without any noice from the outside world. So I was happy ! (I was offered to change if I wanted)

Sadly no A/C and it was a very hot weekend, so just the fan was not enough! Also, forgot but swiss hotels dont hsve tea/coffee making facilities which is a shame as well
• Fred (6/5): Zu wenig einladend, um hier Ferien zu machen - Die beiden Einzelzimmer, welche ich für jeweils eine Nacht gebucht hatte, sind sehr einfach ausgestattet. Das Mobiliar beschränkt sich im wesentlichen auf das Bett, einen fahrbaren Trolley und einen textilen Hängeschrank; beides aus dem skandinavischen Möbelhaus. Keine Einrichtung, um hier gemütlich Ferien verbringen zu wollen. Für einen Business-Trip mit einer Übernachtung noch ok. Die Öffnungszeiten der Reception sind unklar; Hotel-WebSite und hotels.com machen unterschiedliche Angaben. Das Hotel war telefonisch für Rückfragen nicht erreichbar. Bei Bedarf muss eine E-Mail gesendet werden; eine brauchbare Antwort blieb leider aus. Das Frühstück am Abreisetag war ok; zum ersten Mal traf ich dabei auch auf eine freundliche Mitarbeiterin. Insgesamt stimmt das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis für mich nicht.

• shobkri (8/5): Very comfortable.. - What we liked best was the location. Very near the tram stop and overlooking the Rhine River. The Room was of a decent size and very clean. We arrived early and the receptionist was kind enough to give us an early check-in. The next day we left early morning and they gave us a packed bf too. The only minus point would be the noise from the streets but guess that's because ours was a Friday night. 🙂 I would highly recommend a stay here. Thank you for a comfortable stay.

• martyncymro (10/5): Perfect location and a very comfortable and pleasant hotel. - My room was on the 3rd floor, overlooking the street. Soundproofing was excellent. It was very quiet and I heard no noise whatsoever from neighbouring rooms or from the very popular bar located about 25m down the street, The room was large, with a table and chair and an easy chair. The bed was comfortable, but my personal preference would have been for 2 pillows, not one. The shower was very good and hot water almost instantaneous. There were power points on both sides of the bed, The buffet breakfast was good, with bread, croissant, a variety of cheeses and meat slices, yoghurt, dried fruit, cereals and coffee and tea supplied on demand. The location was perfect, with a promenade along the River Rhine at the rear of the hotel, a tram stop 40m away to the Bahnhof SBB, and just a walk over the bridge to the city centre 200m away. I recommend the hotel without any hesitation.
• Phyllis (8/5): Minimalist hotel - This hotel is VERY minimalist. No air conditioning. No comfortable place to sit. No coffee in the room. No help at the front desk after 3:00 pm. The restaurant and bar closed at 7:00 pm. The front door is locked at 8:00 pm so you must walk around back and use your room key to get in. The location is good and right on the river, very walkable to everything. Employees were nice.

We were here in December but I think it would be wonderful any time of the year. The staff was professional and polite. Very helpful! The room was somewhat basic - the bathroom was large and modern. The parquet floors were VERY, VERY squeaky! It was very clean.

• Brian (10/5): Cute place! - Nice a lot along the river. It was a little hard to get to because the street in front was blocked by a Christmas market so taxi dropped off a couple blocks away. Close to metro lines, shops and services. Room was good. Top floor Very squeaky wooden floors. Old historic building. Some staff didn’t speak English but we managed. Also they gave us metro passes for free so that was a real bonus. Picture is a view from our room!

• Tatjana (6/5): Gutes Stadt Hotel für Kurzaufenthalt - Positiv: - Freundlicher Check-In - Grundsätzlich sauber - schöne Lage am Rhein; Tram Station mit direkter Verbindung zum Bahnhof nur wenige Schritte entfernt - Basel Card inbegriffen - sehr bequemes Bett, gute Zimmer Grösse; Holzboden - kleines Frühstück Buffet, aber ausreichend; guter Kaffee Negativ: - Willkommensgetränk nicht erhalten - musste ein Upgrade nehmen, da scheinbar das gebuchte Zimmer viel zu heiss wäre und Fenster nicht geöffnet werden können (davon steht nichts im der Beschreibung) - Flur zum Aufzug etwas unaufgeräumt - Zimmer: sehr kleines Bad ohne Ablage; Handtücher rochen etwas komisch, kein Schrank und nur wenig Fläche
• tommod2018 (4/5): Trendy but uncomfortable - This hotel tries a little too hard to be cool and trendy and loses sight of providing a comfortable stay. The location is great and the staff are helpful. Sadly however a single room has a small single bed. The one pillow given is basically full of air. The sink is in the bedroom space and there’s hardly space for any belongings. No bedside table and if you are expecting to do any work then there’s no desk just a window sill. Also don’t expect any tea, coffee, shampoo or even any water in your room. Breakfast was substandard - nothing hot, just a few bits and pieces. If you need to stay (because the location is great) , make it just one night.
• Daley (8/5): - Locatie was prachtig, goede ligging! Prima kamer alleen beetje gedateerd. Echter staat er een frisdrank automaat op de eerste verdieping op de hal die mega veel lawaai maakt. Tevens de 2de avond was de keuken al om 19:30 u dicht omdat het rustig was, niet bepaald klant vriendelijk. Ook omdat we daar totaal niet op gerekend hadden.

• Iain (8/5): - A perfectly pleasant little hotel. It has a lively location, which may or may not be a bonus depending on your bed-time; and air-con would have been nice - but that's not a deal-breaker. I'd certainly recommend it.
• DL672 (2/5): Location Lovely - The location of the non resident cafe/restaurant by the side of the river is beautiful. We arrived for a simple evening meal, choosing burgers, pitza and salad. They were short staffed and it took an hour and a half for our food to arrive. The burger had to be returned to the kitchen as it was like leather, a bowl of chips was given by way of apology. Our waiter was muddled though pleasant and said the kitchen made mistakes. He apologised, we only paid for what we ate, after insisting, there was no offer from them.

• irinalapin (10/5): A Truly Wonderful Experience! - Terrific staff, location and rooms. We had a lovely corner room on the 2nd (their first) floor that had a view of the river and bridge . Comfy beds and linens, nice amenities and terrific breakfast buffect every morning. It was a delight!

• Monty (2/5): East West Riverside Hotel - Website says airport transfer. I used the filter for air transport. There isn't any transport. Needs to be removed from website and filter. The room didn't have any air only a fan. There wasn't adequate lighting in the room. The location was nice. The location is more of a restaurant and bar.

The service in the restaurang was good and the staff helpful and friendly. The room didn't have any coffee or tea maker. Noice and loud music from the bars and restaurang outside. Breakfast was not impressive. I suggest to book a room with a river view and to skip the hotel breakfast.

• Graf (8/5): Great service - We did not have hot water at first. When we got back to the hotel, around 10:30 pm, we told the attendant. He called the manager, who was off-duty but came within 10 minutes and fixed it. Many, many thanks!
• stuartp340 (10/5): Four and a half stars [rounded up] - This is the perfect hotel for a two or three night stay to see most of Basel, without wasting time travelling about. The hotel has a very nice riverside bar and the rooms are pretty good [a little more lighting would improve things though - this is my only gripe]. Be sure to use your **** BASEL CARD **** - issued to you on arrival, as it will save you a lot of money and convenience. Use the trams [they are so convenient and they went everywhere we wanted to go] for FREE and get half price entry to the top Museums and Galleries. If you stay here Tram 8 gets you to the hotel from the Main Train Station [Bahnhof SBB] after transferring from the Airport Bus 50. Tram 6 takes you to the Fondation Beyeler, currently showing Edward Hopper plus other 20C art including Picasso, Monet, Mondrian, Cezanne, Warhol etc
• Emptynesters09 (8/5): No Hotel Stay...Lunch Only - We stopped here while in Basel for lunch. Lovely water view. The lunch was delicious, the service was fair (no one rushes to get you your check to leave in Europe) and the view was great. I would definitely come back, if only for a drink and the view.
• BusinessTraveler43 (2/5): Not worth it - This hotel has mixed reviews but I tried it anyway since there were very few reasonably-priced hotels near where I needed to be for a business trip. Unfortunately, the negative reviews are correct. The hotel is noisy, inside and out, and some are created by the hotel itself - poor insulation, a bar in the basement open until 4 a.m. on some evenings, music playing in the bar/breakfast room all night and a restaurant with outdoor seating. The staff are indifferent except the woman at breakfast who is surly. But worst of all, when I checked out I was charged in Euros rather than Swiss francs for which I did not give permission and therefore paid a 5% foreign transaction fee above the going exchange rate instead of the 3% my credit card charges. Some Swiss hotels offer this but they always ask first (and you should say no). I can not recommend staying at a hotel that behaves in this manner.

Could be very hot in summer as full afternoon sun and could be very noisy at night if windows closed. Breakfast included, basic but sufficient, very close to tram stop and easy walk to shops, restaurants and main square.
• PRCDenver (6/5): Reasonable Price For Being On The River. - Half the price of the hotels next door. For that you get a decent, clean, reasonably appointed room on the river in Old Town, some noise from the bar and restaurants next door (ear plugs are provided at the front desk!), friendly check in, an average breakfast with average service, no free parking, an appealing/accessible neighborhood with shops and restaurants, direct access to the river promenade, public transportation a one minute walk away. All in all, a good value.
• thehaworths (2/5): Simply shocking. Worst hotel we have ever stayed in. - Cramped, pokey attic room on the third floor. Lift not serviceable and three steep flights of stairs to struggle up and down with heavy suitcases. Room overlooked noisy street. Room too hot and no air-conditioning but noisy fan provided. Couldn't open window to cool the room due to the noise in the street below all night long. No tea/coffee making facilities, no room service. Extremely loud squeaky floorboards. Only 1 European electric socket in room. Bathroom extractor fan didn't work. No storage/drawers in room. Hand basin plug didn't seal. Only one drinking glass provided for 2 adults. Uncomfortable bed. Only one flimsy pillow each, requested more pillows, also flimsy. Basic breakfast, expensive greasy spoon dinner menu. We paid a lot of money for this hotel; were we put in the wrong room? More like a cheap hostel than a hotel. Simply shocking!
• 668jasnav (2/5): Lies - When booking this hotel for one night it was mentioned that we could enjoy free parking. However afterwards we received an email saying that we needed to reserve a parking spot beforehand and that a payment for this parking is obliged. When trying to reserve this parking they said it was already full but they would forsee a solution. When arriving this solution was a public parking. This cotsted us €40 for only parking there 19 hours. We booked a standard twin room and asked for a large double bed. The room and bed itself were theoretically okay. But here's the issue, our roomview was the elevator which means that everybody standing in the glass elevator could see into our room...

• Thomas A Krohn (10/5): One to remember. - Great stay in quiet area of central Paris. Bernard was a great host and room was just right. Nearby restaurants and walks along the Siene made for a great 24 hours.
• AKW (10/5): Good location - Tram at the corner to get around easily. Good food.
• Chris (8/5): great property except the noise across the street - Everything was great except the noise from across the street at the bars and restaurants which was still going on at 03:30 am on a Saturday night. We had to have the window open as it was warm, and they have no AC, so could not close the window. The location is the best, handy to everything, trams close by, facilities are good, staff friendly and helpful. The shower was the best we have had in an hotel, large and worked well, and not slippery like so many. Breakfast was included and ample with delicious coffee.
• caitlin (10/5): Cool riverfront hotel with buzz-y energy - love - I'm a New Yorker in my early thirties who likes hotels like the Ace, the Standard, etc.--I like.a scene at a hotel (often when traveling in Europe it can be sort of lonely and dead-energy in the hotels). I've stayed at this hotel twice this summer and it's so nice and not overpriced (from a foreigners' perspective -- you know what I mean) unlike many things in gorgeous Switzerland. Modern and cool -- the scene outside at the cafe feels like home to me. It's right on the river and very easy to get to. I am a writer and could honestly live at this hotel and write. it's got great energy. also the bars across the street are always hopping as well. Def reccomend.
• Nigel (8/5): I would stay again but... - A hot few days so lack of air conditioning surprising in a new hotel. There was a free-standing fan kindly placed in the room. Single room could not have been smaller and very expensive. But I would stay again in a larger room and book in advance. A great position with friendly good value restaurant by the riverside.
• Edgar (8/5): Comfortable plus. - This hotel is located on the river with a great location outside to sit and have a beer. The prices are a little high but that seems to be true of all of Switzerland

• David (6/5): Noisy hotel by the river - Hotel on the other side of the river to the centre. By a team stop. Noisy pub opposite. Good bars and restaurants in the area

• Alan (6/5): - Beds very uncomfortable. Street is noisy. Hotel claims triple glazing but it certainly wasn't installed in my room. As a result, getting a decent sleep was a challenge.

• nyla (8/5): Great location - We were given a room on the elevator shaft. Windows opened to the shaft. Everyone taking the elevator could look into our room. It was extremely hot when were in Basel, so when we came back to our room after dinner and closed the drapes we realized with no air we were not going to be able to sleep in there. I went to front desk and asked to be changed. Changed to nice room on River. They should not rent those other rooms.
• jolene (2/5): Over priced camping experience - This hotel was terrible! I have no idea how this place is rated well on trip advisor?? There is no aircon in the rooms just a pedestal fan, which may not be so bad in winter but if your going in summer and the temps are 36• like we experienced then it's a very uncomfortable stay an almost impossible sleep! There are pubs and bars on either side of the hotel and they are ridiculous noisy so forget about leaving your windows open for any breeze or fresh air If your room windows are not over the noisy pubs they looking straight into the glass elevator, absolutely no privacy! The room description advised the room came with bottled water this is not true. When I asked for some water I was refused despite having proof on the paper work. There was also no where for our bags to sit but on the floor and we could not watch TV unless our curtains where open (with it getting dark at 11pm and the noise from the bars all night and morning the curtains need to be closed) The electrical work and all the new renos seem to have been done very poorly, the coke machine outside our room leaked a large pool of water which a extension lead ran through. Not safe! Overall with the heat, the noise and the above notes an more it felt like we were camping
