Guest Reviews
- Megan (2/5): - Terrible! Elevator was broken, stairs were super narrow and we walked up 4 flights. Waited outside for over an hour for an access code when we were told it would be 5 minutes. There was a TV in the room, but no remote and no buttons to turn it in manually. Also lots of open light fixtures. Worst place I’ve ever stayed!
- Jessie (2/5): - Please don’t stay here, the photos are catfishing. I feel scammed the place was so dirty there was blood stains on the bathroom wall and bed. The door didn’t lock, the handle was broken, and the room had a horrible stench.
- Andreas (2/5): - Hotel night from hell
The hotel has no sign outside of the building so it's impossible to find
In order to get into the hotel you have to wait and talk to the front desk manager who asks you million unnecessary questions like why are you staying at the hotel here.
Right before I was entering the elevator to go up to the 1st floor to the room another guest arrived and was trying to get into the hotel as well but couldn't manage to since he di due make happen since he did not have AUS phone number to call the front desk. I stayed on the phone and let the other guest use my phone to communicate with the front desk manager and was able to manage that he also could finally enter his hotel room. Never have I ever stayed at a hotel which made it so insanely difficult to enter your Hotel room.
After approximately 35 minutes of trying to get into the hotel room I finally arrived. After opening the door the entire room smells mustyThe room is dirty, footsteps on the floor.... The chair in the room is completely rotten.... After trying to switch on the TV it didn't work so I opened the closet only to find that all cables we're detached and I had to plug them all in including the antenna cable... TV is still not working.
I reset the cable box myself and ended up making it work. I put in my shoes every time I went to the bathroom because the floor and little carpet are disgustingly dirty.
- Lydia (2/5): No housekeeping, no front desk, don’t book here. - I arrived after 4PM & there was no front desk/worker, my room was not cleaned, I call customer service & they said housekeeping would come, I waited an hour and no one came so I looked on all stories of the building & seen no housekeeping whatsoever. The fridge was leaking, dirty towels from previous guest in the bathroom, needles on floor, dirty floor, dirty walls. I had to get a refund and stay somewhere else.
- Monicaa (2/5): - DO NOT STAY HERE. Genuinely spend the extra money and go somewhere else. We got to our hotel at 6 and our room wasn’t even cleaned. We got to our new room and it smelled like urine, the floors weren’t clean, the bed smelled, ac/heating did not work, and there was no hot water. We called the customer service line and he was essentially no help (and talks over you- super unprofessional) the whole place was dirty and I’m convinced the elevator is about to break. Also there were bugs all over the room. Do not stay here I’m begging you like- they should be paying you to stay here.
- chryssoulac (2/5): Stay away from this hotel - Wrongfully charged twice. Stay away from this hotel. I had booked via booking in April 2024 for a reservation meant to be implemented in April 2025. Due to health reasons I cancelled the reservation on time and received the confirmation via booking. The Hotel charged me in April 2024 for the reservation. I questionned the charge and they refund. However, in April 2025 they recharged the same amount of money and never refund. I had to go through my bank to get the matter solved. Stay away from the hotel.
- Kenia (2/5): - Please do not book here, it is not safe and room was dirty. We had to book somewhere else
- Lawrence (2/5): - Roach infested place an if i could just show you how they set me in a room qith a broken T.V... roaches Crawling on the Sink Next To the Bed.... I didn't even Sleep in there.... But Had to Return Cause I Left My Bag.... So i went Back an Fumigated the Place..... Hope they buy more of that roach spray i left Them.... Take Home Some Roaches if you want to with this one‼️
- D (2/5): do not book here - Terrible conditions and nobody on site for service or checkin during entire stay.
No linen, no staff, elevator out of service, painters tape on doors, no smoke detectors, no response.
- jessicajG3434DP (10/5): Clean and comfy - So I have stayed in this hotel since its conception and while it’s not the ritz, I can’t be mad because I’m not paying for the ritz. This is a contactless hotel. I find the system to be smart and well functioning as long as you can follow instructions. The hotel offers average for San Francisco size rooms, each one with their own bathroom. Most rooms at this rate won’t have a private bathrooms. So they don’t offer individual toiletries that most people don’t use. They provide you with basic soap, shampoo and conditioner, I’ve used it before. Not the worst. Keep in mind, this is one of the few hotels that does not charge you a $200 a night deposit or a $45 a night resort fee. It’s a great option for budget travelers. In fact, I’ve stayed at nearly every hotel in San Francisco- this would be my first go to for anyone on a budget. Beds are comfy, it is safe, this neighborhood is ideal and most importantly, he room is always clean. I’ve never had any issue with the cleanliness of this hotel. The only con I can think of is the elevator is sometimes out of service. That is a pain in the butt but not the end of the world. As far as the other reviews claiming they have taken their money, I can guarantee that those people all received a full refund. Everyone knows that refunds take time. They need to bring that up to their bank and not the hotel.
- Betzaida (2/5): - The service was poor, and facilities differed from advertise. The room had multiple broken items such as the shower lever, desk leg, tilted/stained chair. Bathroom door did not close, room entrance door was missing the strike plate and did not seem to close properly. A roach was found in the kitchenette counter, closet was dirty, room window did not block any sound. The loud noises from the street could be heard in the room and bathroom. No personal in the front desk, when calling no one answered and had to wait until they decided to return the call. Would not classify as hotel, since it felt more like a dingy motel or hostel. We slept the first night and left early next morning, we could not stay there anymore, did not feel safe. The only elevator was broken and looked ancient, like the hunchback of Notre Dame had to pull it up. The area around the hotel was full of homeless people and felt very unsafe, which fit the ambiance in the hotel. The only reason to stay there is to not sleep outdoors.
- Paradise26104925998 (4/5): 2/10 - Smelled like urine, felt unsafe, we have to shower with hand soap. If you only have to sleep for 1 night it’s ok but be careful it feels unsafe. First and last time here. Theres no one at the “front desk” no elevator service. Very very noisy you can hear even when people come in at night to the building
- Scott (8/5): - Inexpensive, no frills or services, room was comportable and clean, shower hot, but cramped, convenient to where I wanted to be in San Francisco, lots of shops and restaurants nearby.
- Nikki (2/5): - First impression was a total scam!
- Francis (10/5): - Customer service is amazing
- Lawrence (10/5): - Great place... I wouldn't Wanna Go Anywhere Else‼️
- Alex (8/5): Good place for independent young travelers - Traveled here for a week in April with my girlfriend. Awesome place, would stay again. This is no-frills, hostel style housing. You're getting what you pay for, and they are not going to hold your hand or pamper you. However, the property is in a good location with plenty of locks, so we felt safe. The room was clean and comfortable. There is no customer service on site, so you have to call a number to request things like extra towels, and they won't clean your room every day. But most of the negative reviews on here are a little dramatic. It's a cheap place, yes, but I felt like I got my moneys worth and had a good stay with them. Customer service rep was always polite and honest, never rude. This place is great for younger people who want to save money and are okay looking out for themselves. 3.5/5.
- Antonio (2/5): - Their was nothing unique about this hotel, it was in an unsafe place next to a loud street, when I called to get more supplies like pillows and toilet paper no one answered and the customer service person that would answer was always really rude. You walk into hotel and their is no one their to check you in or help you. We walked into the room and it smelt like fire the bed was horrible there were Nats as well it was overall not a good hotel
- Pats3659 (2/5): Avoid at all costs - Elevator was out of service. Not advised prior to arrival. Not good as I am travelling with a disabled friend.
No glasses or mugs and advised that they were not normally provided
Bed looked like it had been slept in already
Bed was also broken.
The hotel looks like it shud be charging by the hour.
- Jian (2/5): - Place is disgusting. The apartment is dirty with unclean carpets.
The staircase had puke all over it and not cleaned up for days. When I went into the room I was assigned someone was asleep in it and clearly drunk or on drugs. I complained to management and they kept using cookie cutter language vs offering real solutions. Finally contacted Expedia and got a different room upstairs. There's no wifi. Complained and ignored. They stopped responding to me after I checked into the room because they refused to give me a refund. Will never come back and won't recommend anyone going there.
- Austin (6/5): - The location was amazing and parking was really easy once we figured out the parking laws. I would recommend fixing the shower so that it doesnt leak on the floor and toilet when showering. Also, if you arent going to rehang the towel hooks, toilet paper holder etc. that have been ripped off of the wall then at least fill in the holes and paint. It makes it feel really trashy. I would say that this was less like a hotel and more of a private room at a hostel considering the condition of the room.
- mesturd (2/5): Booked and paid. They canceled! - I booked and fully paid for a reservation at this hotel. Upon arrival for check-in, I found the door closed, and I was not allowed inside. I had to wait outside for an hour, making phone calls to reach reception and verify my booking details. Despite confirming all necessary information, my reservation was ultimately canceled due to a lack of available rooms. This was an incredibly disappointing and unprofessional experience—the worst I have ever encountered. I am shocked that such a hotel operates in San Francisco.
- Samantha (10/5): - I liked the room
- Verified traveler (2/5): Shockingly bad - We arrived at 5pm for our 4pm check-in using the door codes provided. Not a single staff member in sight. No sheets on our bed, mattress torn open, hinges and deadbolt on door broken off. After futile attempts to contact someone, we were finally promised the room within 30 minutes. At 7pm, we were finally transferred to a different room. Throughout the stay, there were multiple incidents of people screaming in the hallways, dogs barking and scratching at doors (directly beneath us), constant cigarette smell coming from other rooms, and a stench of urine in the staircase. The elevator was inoperable most of the time because people would forget to “close its door,” per the instructions. We can understand a certain level of this being a “historic boutique hotel” but it honestly felt like a some sort of halfway home. The pictures online are VERY misleading.
- Lawrence (10/5): MAGICAL ‼️ - Feet down ..hands up...This is the best place ever. I'm Never going anywhere else ‼️ the staff is great the whole experience all the way around was magical ‼️
- Mariah (6/5): Not a typical hotel stay - You kinda get what you pay for in this SF stay, but the listing is kind of misleading. This is not a “normal hotel”. On the outside of the building they advertise rooms for rent nightly, weekly, monthly. There isn’t really a front desk. There appears to be a desk area through the doors under the stairs. We were sent a front door code and room door code to left ourselves in. We were only given two towels and two wash cloths. This became an issue when we discovered that the shower overflows and leaks all over the bathroom floor. The shower has a large crack at the door that lets water out; the door doesn’t stay shut; the drain doesn’t drain as quick as the flow comes out, so we could only keep the water on in minute-long increments to not completely overflow the bathroom. The smoke detector was missing from the holder in the ceiling. The mattress was kinda old and springy, but comfortable enough. Pillows were nice. Overall seemed clean.
- Kathryn (10/5): - As far as hotels near the tenderloin go, this place was awesome. Definitely could use some work and maintenance overall, but it was perfect for what we needed. The private code for hotel and room entry is nice. No staff on site as far as I could tell, which is nice for private and convenient check in. Amazing location, right off of the bus stop and close to a ton of shopping and restaurants. Overall, it was a bit musty but clean and the location was amazing.
- Dylan (2/5): - There were people staying in our room when we got there and they did nothing about it
- ted (4/5): - noisy area, tired property
- Matthew (4/5): Ghost hotel with lots of routers but no staff - The place was generally clean but there were hairs and random pieces of rubbish still in the room. The toilet is extremely temperamental and does not always flush, it also refills during the night so needs to be turned off at the valve to get any sleep.
We couldn't connect to any of the multitude of routers that we were given passwords to (or did connect but to be told that the service was suspended for unpaid bills). Not having broadband was an annoying issue as being tourists, we don't have local phone contracts with unlimited data to use.
Staff were unseen and uncontactable, we tried messaging and calling several times. Despite recieving a lot of automated emails, there seemed to be no actual humans available throughout our stay, physically or virtually. If anything goes wrong, good luck finding someone to talk to.
Fine if you need somewhere to crash and sleep that's cheap.
- Jennifer (10/5): - I stayed 2 nites as a solo female. The location is great, Polk Street is a block away & there are a myriad of bars, shopping & dining options, for a range of budgets. I just needed lodging with private bath & 24-hr front desk, as i was in town to attend an event that went late into the night & wanted to be able to access my room any time. My room was clean, linens were crisp, i barely heard any other guests but - if this is an issue for you, it wasn't for me- normal city traffic sounds can inevitably be heard (bc you ARE in a city). The water pressure in the shower was excellent, although the glass shower door wouldnt close shut all the way, causing shower water to spill out onto the bathroom floor. Checking in was simple & overall i would definitely stay again. Highly recommended for solo travelers.
- Michael J (10/5): - Every thing was fine cant beat the price helped me to enjoy San Francisco
- Carlos (10/5): - Very quiet and secure. Rooms are clea .
- Deyner (10/5): - Calista hotel is always my best option to stay in SFO quiet, sparkle, clean , affordable and close to everything. Highly recommend it.
- Mya Pwint (2/5): - The hotel is very dirty and it doesnt look like whats in the ad AT ALL
- Francis (10/5): - Customer care is excellent
- Raul (2/5): - This was the worse experience I have ever had the place was dirty and could not stay it was unsafe and just felt like I was going to get robbed. I tried to call the hotel and they did not answer once in said the room was dirty. The bed broken the bathroom was discussing
- Jose (6/5): - Room was very small and no dresser to put away clothes, however served its purposes.
- Gerard (2/5): - I won't be coming back to the Calista Organic Hotel. I recommend that you don't either.
Customer Service is virtually nonexistent. There is manager at the property. I had a number of problems while at the property. When I tried to contact the manager, I got no response until i mentioned that I would reference his lack of response in my review.
I needed Wi-Fi for my work. When I asked about the Wi-Fi I was told that they would have a technician check the server. This never happened. There was no Wi-Fi in my room for the duration of my stay
I had planned on cooking in my room as the hotel claims to have a kitchenette. This was not possible as the hotel provides nothing by way of dishes, cutlery or pots and pans. There wasn't as much as a plastic cup with which to brush my teeth.
The hotel does not provide maid service as they claim. I spilled coffee on my sheets on day 1. I slept on dirty sheets for a week before I eventually found a maid. They claimed that you have to ask for maid service but there was no one to ask.
- Harvey (10/5): - No comment
- Luke (2/5): - This place should be shut down .
- Luke (2/5): - This place is a joke. The rooms leak when it rains and the elevator is a death trap
- Andrey (10/5): - Liked it just as much this time around. The place is solid with many travelers agreeing that this model works, especially in certain situations.
- IRIS (2/5): - Do not stay here. We arrived at the hotel, there was nobody there to greet us and the hotel immediately did not look like it did on the ad. We then went up to the room on a very old and unsafe elevator and the room did not have light for the bathroom or lock for the main door and the door trim looked like someone had opened the door forcefully. The doors were dirty and the sheets had stains. We had to leave. I booked a hotel elsewhere. I’d like a refund.
- Andrey (10/5): - Great place, great location. It’s a bit non-traditional- there’s no door person or a lobby… but the property is well managed and maintained. The cleaning crew is efficient and friendly, but also very quick. There’s no silverware or glasses, but the fridge and BevMo across the street provide just fine. Also, its hot water and water pressure are great!
- Gary (10/5): I’d stay there again. - Wi fi was a little tricky at first, but reliable thereafter. Staff was helpful, but this was only my second stay at a “non-contact” hotel. Takes a little getting used to, but well wait for the price, good location and best low cost hotel I’ve had in San Francisco.
- Harvey (6/5): - Place is a comfy and pretty fair price for what you get.
- Ryan (8/5): - It wasnt bad compared to old owners they upgraded the rooms for sure but still lots of work to be done.
- Vanessa (2/5): - To be fair it was worth about $75 but no heat no AC there was graffiti in the room. there is no front desk staff and the phone number provided was answered 1/4 times i tried and the one time i was patronized and treated disrespectfully. Dont go number two as the toulet clogs almost everytime and the hot water runs out fairly quickly
- Stephen (8/5): - Nice little spot to get away
- Luke (8/5): - My bike got stolen out of the hallway in front of my room
- Luke (8/5): - Unsafe outside
- Carlos (2/5): - There was dog feces on the stairwell of the third floor. Also, I had to wait 30 min for two days to take a shower since there was no hot water. I relayed both concerns to management and I was told that the other guests may have used up all the hot water. Plus, the shower is extremely narrow.
- Luke (8/5): - Nice place
- Jose Edgar (4/5): - The stay would have been okay had the room not had so many German roaches. Consider pest control.
- Gabriela (10/5): - it was a really nice hotel, clean and comfortable
- April (2/5): Save yourself, book some other hotel! - There is an elevator, BUT! If the gate is open on another floor, it will not operate. DO NOT STAY HERE if you need the elevator for mobility like I do!!
All guests I spoke to were missing smoke detectors just like my room was. I had missing lighting fixtures without covering the 4" hole in the ceiling and other miscellaneous holes in the ceiling. Installed shelves in the bathroom were visibly missing. The door to the bathroom is clearly made of particle board and had been water damaged inside and out all the way up past the handle. The middle hinge was completely missing. There were blinds in the bathroom, but no way to close them. The "kitchenette" was missing the following: A door on the largest cabinet, any kind of plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, or ANYTHING to boil water in for coffee or tea. The closet was missing doors of any kind and had 3 plastic coat hangers. The windows have ZERO soundproofing, so I heard the man yelling in the street from 3 am to 3:30 am along with every siren and never ending road noise. There were no less than 5 different colors of paint on the walls and unpainted drywall repairs in the room.
I paid for a deluxe room and received the standard room. All messages and phone calls went unanswered including when hotels.com attempted to reach the owner about my stay and our powwow's head dancer's stay. Hotels.com made an exception to the refund policy and refunded my remaining nights. I stayed happily in another hotel.
- Briana (2/5): - There was no one onsite to talk to about any of the issues I had. I arrived early (12pm) simply to leave my bags, with the understanding that the room may not be ready to actually check in yet. Right as I was about to use the code, I heard noises from inside the room. The previous hotel stayers (I’m assuming) were still there, and a man stepped out while I was in the hallway trying to figure out what to do, in no rush only to take out his trash (which was in the hallway floor). The entire building reeked of disturbing smells, there were strange noises, and no one to fix it. Please do NOT stay here!!! I had to go to a different hotel last minute because I felt so unsafe. I didn’t confront the man because I am a female traveler and I wasn’t going to put myself in that situation. This place should be shut down. The pictures are NOTHING like what is advertised, I genuinely feel scammed. No clue where any good reviews are coming from because there’s no way anyone thinks this place is good in any way. Have yet to contact management for a refund and explanation for what I experienced, but many Google reviews suggest it won’t matter and I likely will not get my money back. Lesson learned, READ the reviews, don’t just rely on the stars.
- Michelle (2/5): - Nobody told me that this hotel was a converted SRO building. I didn’t like my stay there. My forest night there, I had people knocking on my door. I didn’t answer it. I read in previous reviews that some people have gotten their rooms broken into on the first night. On the floor above me, some guy was also abusing his girlfriend. I called 911. I was supposed to stay Friday night through Monday morning, but I only stayed Friday night and left for another hotel Saturday morning. DO NOT BOOK HERE. The rooms were falsely advertised. The steps going from the basement to the 2nd floor smell like piss, not to mention people smoked inside their rooms. If I could give this 0 stars I would. This place was not what I had imagined it to be.
- Erika (8/5): - Nice room! Would have been better if customer service responded faster and if staff were present.
- Sashanaz (10/5): - It was walking distance to our destination. The keyless entry was easy with no hassle. The room was clean and everything worked as it should. All in all great experience. Would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No cleaner to provide room service.
- Luis (10/5): - The area. Other than that great experience!! :)
- David (2/5): - Extremely dirty, bathroom didn’t have functional lights. No towels/linens provided. No toilet paper provided. Almost felt like this was an extended stay homeless center and not necessarily a hotel.
- 197nadjad (2/5): WORST HOTEL - WORST HOTEL EVER!!! Its not a hotel, they just rent rooms. Homles people got in the hotel and tried to get in the rooms at 2am. Dog poop was found in the hallway carpet and it was never cleaned. The door to our rom looked very unsafe, like someone hase broken in bevore. Staff was never in the hotel and never answered the phone. We felt very unsafe trough our stay. We stayed for 2 weeks and the room never got cleaned. We never got clean sheets or got a new roll of toilett paper. The hotel doesnt look at all like the pictures on the website. We dont recomend this at all.
- Rolyn Jan (4/5): - I was one of those people that didn’t bother to read the reviews. And of course that put me in the wrong place. PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS. I will also be uploading videos and pictures on google reviews for ya’ll to know. I planned to extend my stay but when I called customer service the guy I talked to was extremely rude. No matter how I tried to change the mood by politely saying “sir” he kept answering me in a rude and as if he was mad ‘tone’. That was my biggest red flag before even knowing what this place holds.
Thankfully no homeless people were there when I went in. The security code they have seem to be fine and modern. Going in, luckily they probably fixed the piss odor problem in the other reviews so I wasnt hit by it. But there was definitely a smell of musk. Tried using the elevator but there was unknown fluid inside so I didnt bother. Stairs are pretty old looking and the building itself looks like it was a rundown apt. turned into a “hotel”.
Walls are thin and when somebody uses the bathroom on the other-side (other room) ud hear it. Thankfully the room I got in was relatively clean. But I definitely felt unsafe being there and the air definitely didn’t feel clean to breathe either. Would I book again over here? Maybe if I really NEEDED a place to crash with a microwave and fridge. BUT PLEASE if you can find somewhere else that’s better, do so. There are more places and hotels out there.
- Francis (10/5): - The customer service is excellent
- Milosh (10/5): - All was great...
- Francis (10/5): - Customer service is excellent
- Aki (10/5): - Amazing
- Devon (2/5): - This is not a hotel. This is a converted apartment building. There is no staff. The internet did not work. No one answered the phone and there was no one onsite. My room was so loud I could not sleep. The windows are single pane and have not weatherstripping so it sounds like you are outside. Someone ran up and down the stairs many times and was knocking on doors. Van Ness street was very loud, Policy sirens back and forth until 3 am and People playing music on the street and very loud argument was happening outside my window. The sheets were not clean. The pillows were barely 2 inches thick and the bed was uncomfortable. The 30 inch TV was mounted on the ceiling and you cannot really see it from anywhere in the room. The remote was covered in sticky goo and was disgusting to touch. Once again staff never responded or returned any calls. I had meetings for business all week so I had to leave and stay somewhere else. Avoid this place to stay at all costs.
- Xingyuan (10/5): - Close to my destination
- Linda G. (10/5): - Sometimes it was very noisy due to the outside traffic.0therwise it was fine. The entry was clean and well-kept. There are a few dining options and a great cafe in the neighborhood
- Younghyun (10/5): - This place was great. The management made sure I had everything I needed. The old school elevator was certainly a new experience. All in all, I’d definitely recommend.
- Richard (2/5): The worst place ever!!!! - This place is dire! NO front desk attendance ever, and when you ring, both numbers, they don't answer!
The room was dirty, the windows had not witnessed cleaning for months!
There is NO heating, I mean, NONE - in the middle of winter.
My floor, 3rd, had no internet access!
It's actually not a hotel, it's a run-down boarding house that should be demolished, it's filthy, the carpets in the halls are beyond disgusting. Rooms NEVER get serviced, I was there 8 days, worst stay of my life - will be liaising with hotels.com, this place is beyond disgusting.
AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Miko (6/5): - Couldn’t check in at 4pm because room wasn’t ready and the hallway smells really musty since it’s an old building.
Room was small but had a street view window and comfy bed with nice shower.
Would stay again if listed under seventy dollars.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It is not as shown in the images not even close, there cockroaches all over the room as well as bathroom. The bathroom door is broken. Very terrible experience.
- Marica (10/5): - We always love coming to this hotel till last night someone smashed my car window right infront of the hotel, parked
- Christian (6/5): - The keyless system was nice. I didn't like the lack of amenities (TV not working, no toilet paper) and the elevator was difficult to use.
- Sofolonia (10/5): - PROS-Affordability. Convenience. Staff are very helpful.
CONS-Upstairs above me, Room #203 very noisy & chaotic especially past 12 am: dragging of furnitures, play loud music, took a shower upstairs & water overflowed & started coming down the ac vault into my bathroom wet floor & toilet. Had to use all my towels to contain water.
From the very first day, I got off the elevator to go to my room (#103) and heavy cloud of smoke (weed & cigarettes) hits you. This goes on every single day. Im in #103 but it came from the one of the room by the elevator next to me.
NOISE-
1).Dog barking from one of the rooms during sleep hours. Dont know which room.
2). Someone keeps knocking constantly at the front entrance door (after 12am) to be let in. My room is right above the entrance.
3). One evening I opened up the front entrance to go outside & a tall black guy on a bicycle (look like he was high) brushed past me & said, "CALISTO HOTEL, oh thank god". I told him that he need to call the office to get a code for the door. He said as he was walking past me, "Yes. Let me put down my bike so I can call them". As I was waiting for my delivery, I looked through the glass door & it looked like he was sleeping in the lobby chair. He saw me peeking through the door so he got up & went into the elevator. That night there were unusual loud noise coming from the room above me, Room #203.
4). Street Noise past 12am: Pedestrians/homeless screaming at the top of their lungs, yelling, fighting
- Dave (10/5): - Good value
- Marica (10/5): Would keep going there every wknd - Clean and good customer service over the phone
- Omar (10/5): - Good location, good service, good transportation.
- Michael (10/5): - Self check-in. Easy to follow instructions. The room was clean and comfortable.
- Lilliana (2/5): - As soon as you walk into the building there’s a horrendous smell of piss, just to realize if you look closely at the carpets you could see the old piss stains from the house-less community break ins on bush st. Nobody at the front desk, the room was pretty decent and didn’t have the smell of the piss but still was disgusting in the hallways and lobby. The locks on our hotel door and almost all of them in the room and throughout the building look like they’ve been attempted break ins or successful. I thought it was rat bites on the wood but it was from the previous break ins so that’s that. Also the entire place is definitely a renovated old apartment complex, not an actual hotel or motel even. Had a great time in the city though outside of that. Would I recommend if you want something cheap in the city with a fridge? Sure. But nothing more.
- Riley (8/5): - We got this room for a show we were seeing next door at the Regency Ballroom. A clean bed and a working bathroom was all we needed. The room is small, the elevator doesn’t work, but it was just fine. This is not a luxury hotel by any means, but it works.
- Haitham (6/5): - good location
- Ivan (10/5): - Nice place to stay in San Francisco. Everything is nearby.
Many places around to eat and drink. Easy to get via Public Transport.
- Rita (2/5): - There’s isn’t hot water in the room where we staying, there’s no staff in the hotel and no one will reply to our phone call! So seems impossible to shower in Calista Organic hotel
- Andre (8/5): - It was different but easy to manage having no key just codes to open doors . I stayed for 4 nights and texted and called regards getting some fresh towels and never got them I would have given this proberty a better review but being brushed over by the person who picked up the phone over some towels was not necessarily and the fact there took the towel I left outside my room but never brought fresh one staying for 4 nights I dont think I ask for much.
- V1515XXdonnat (2/5): DON'T book - DO NOT BOOK. Like all the other reviews you will not like staying here. Its an area with a lot of homeless people, the room isn't like the photos, lobby smells of urine...i could go on for a while.
We stayed for 10 min then booked somewhere else. The hotel wouldn't give us a refund at all even though we complained for over a month. It took them that long to come back to us.
- Trip30506896798 (10/5): Eco-Friendly Stay - I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Calista Organic Hotel in San Francisco and it was an experience that surpassed all my expectations. If you’re someone who values sustainability without compromising on comfort, this hotel should definitely be on your radar.
- Wanderer36205915466 (10/5): Good place to stay - Amazing place to stay around. Budget friendly hotel and everything is nearby. Very Safe and affordable price. It’s self checkin and very safe to enter and do not worry about it. Lots of restaurants nearby and try each and every restaurant for taste.
- narasimhar772 (10/5): Everything is nearby - Amazing stay. I had my best beautiful days here. Nearby stores and restaurants. Felt very safe and loved walking in the streets. Most importantly bus stops are very nearby so people staying here are lucky if you are travelling in bus. Must visit
- J5664RZinfo (2/5): You cannot trust this hotel with pre-payments! - Do not book in this hotel. I made a reservation in April 2024 for a stay in March 2025. Despite the message that no pre-payment was needed the entire cost of the stay at € 417,- was deducted from our VISA card after a few days. Beginning of July 2024 Booking.com cancelled our reservation, probably because of issues with the hotel. The hotel told us they would refund us but it never happened. In the end Booking.com send us the refund, thank you Booking.com, very kind of you. Our experience is that you cannot trust this hotel, there are more people waiting to get back their money.
- shamalar2024 (10/5): Everything is nearby - I had my wonderful time in calista hotel. This is my first self checkin hotel and in the beginning I fet unsafe then gradually I got used to it with good hospitality from the staff whenever required and the most important thing is it's located in center of the city and I covered most of the places.
- dominicsY7115XH (2/5): This hotel steals your money - DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL! We booked via booking.com and payment was NOT meant to be taken but the hotel did without permission. When we cancelled and the hotel will not refund our money even though the T&Cs state they have too. What a shame this hotel exists.
- Srikanth9967883700 (10/5): Affordable Comfort - Calista Organic Hotel offers affordable quality accommodations with a touch of nostalgia. The independent spirit of this boutique hotel resonates with its guests. Our room, though compact, had character—the exposed brick walls reminded us of the city’s history. And the location? Perfect for exploring local stores and attractions. Plus, the extra money we saved allowed us to indulge in better dining experiences. Calista Organic Hotel is our go-to spot now!
- Wanderer19692014437 (10/5): Charming Stay, Unbeatable Prices - Our stay at Williamsburg Suites was a treat. The building’s elegance drew us in, and the warm welcome from the staff made us feel right at home. The location, smack in the heart of downtown, allowed us to explore without hassle. And the rates? Wallet-friendly! We’ll be back for sure.
