Guest Reviews
- Hazel (10/5): Unforgettable experience - The staff were fantastic, the location was great and it was like home from home. Nothing was too much trouble. Loved it all Nothing
- edward (10/5): An absolute gem of a place. One of the best stays I’ve ever had. - Absolutely everything. The staff were outstanding in every way. Nothing
- Ruben (10/5): Fabulous place, definitely 10 out of 10 - 10/10! Absolutely one of our favorites during our South Africa trip. The lodge is very clean, modern and spacious. Manuela and staff do everything to make you feel at home. Fabulous people! The food is delicious and last but not least: the nature reserve is really beautiful, the private game drives are very exciting. Also lovely for children!
- Kathryn (8/5): Very personalized experience and the renovations are beautiful. - Convenient location
Very friendly staff
Ensures a personalized experience for all. The food was great but limited/set amounts. The mealtimes also dont cater for children. Its only at 8;30, 14:00 and 19:30. Generally kids eat 7;00, 10:00, 13:00 and between 17:00-18:00
They could opt to include kiddie friendly meals and the earlier times and also have inbetween “tea time” with small sandwiches for hungry kids.
And try to add more kid friendly activities like the chef can do cookie decorating with them or design your own pizza.

- Karine (10/5): Home away from home - I really liked the staff.
At Mziki Safari Lodge, they really make it a point to satisfy their customer. They called me when I was driving to the lodge to check on us because we did not arrive at the time we had indicated.
They even offered to cook a light lunch for us because we arrived after lunch time.
Our ranger, "Ndcebo" was very knowledgeable and he went above and beyond to make us happy. He even told us about the stars.
We had a very good time.
We love the cozy family set ups during breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was a home away from home.
Thank you Mziki!
- Lebohang (8/5): Very good - All was good, thank you. The kids enjoyed it as well. They just sad they didn't get to see Elephants😄.
- Gabriel (10/5): Awesome romantic or family get away! - Its a hidden gem....Beautiful location in the heart of nature. Great activities for both adults and children ... The Junior Ranger program is awesome and keeps the kids busy.
Friendly Staff, and very personalized hospitality. Good weekend get away for the entire family
- Josline (6/5): Pleasant -
- Oliver (5/5): Decent facilities with good staff but average food options - Good service and comfortable accommodation For the price paid there could have been more care given to the dining options. Food was buffet style with limited options. The food ran out on every occasion especially given the fact that our group was the second group to go on game drives and thus were left with the left overs from other lodgers. We weren’t lucky enough to see any of the four Big 5 and that added to an overall underwhelming stay
- Simon (10/5): Perfect! - Great facilities, awesome for kids (junior ranger program is amazing!), staff were just fantastic Nothing
- Willem (10/5): Wonderful game experience. - Friendly staff, knowledgeable ranger and great chef The beds are not the most comfortable.
- Mary (10/5): Fantastic!! As always - The location, the game, the accommodation, the staff Nothing
- Coleen (6/5): Pleasant -
- Meliwe (10/5): Lovely , peaceful stay and my kids loved it! - Very peaceful and private . Love the staff personalised service. The chef was amazing accommodating every special needs of the kids. The drinks are overpriced.
- Naif (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was great and good experience 👍🏼
- Katrien (9/5): Superb -
- Annelien (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cairns (10/5): A real gem. - Fantastic place that exceeded my expectations !! A real gem with great people and a special reserve. If your looking for a reserve with great game drives - special mention to Zola- , fabulous accommodation , and that break with the wow factor this is the one for you. The tranquility of the setting is also not to be underestimated. 10 out of 10. Nothing
- Mosala (10/5): Exceptional - My family and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Mziki Safari Lodge for four nights, and it was an experience to remember. From the moment we stepped into the Family Suite, we were greeted with an ambiance of exquisite luxury. The attention to detail in the design and amenities truly made our stay comfortable and enjoyable.
One of the highlights of our stay was the culinary experience crafted by Chef Kego. Every meal was a delightful journey for the taste buds.
The game drives led by Zola and Devan were not only exciting but also highly informative. They shared their extensive knowledge of the local wildlife, making each drive both educational and enjoyable. Special thanks to Zola for his dedication in guiding my son through the ranger course. It was heartwarming to see him learn valuable skills like shelter-making, water purification, fire-making, and animal tracking, all under Zola’s expert guidance.
The sundowner game drives were another highlight of our stay, offering breathtaking views of the African landscape as the sun dipped below the horizon.
Throughout our time at Mziki Safari Lodge, we were consistently impressed by the warm hospitality of Manuela and her team. Their attention to detail and commitment to ensuring our comfort made our stay truly unforgettable. We will definitely be back!
- Sayed (8/5): Very good -
- Miklos (10/5): Fun and Tranquil Safari Lodge with excellent staff - Lovely, very personal safari lodge not too far from Johannesburg. Safari guide and staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Rondavel rooms give very authentic, unique feeling of being in close to nature. Fantastic food and calm, tranquil grounds to relax on.
Safari ride was fantastic! Needed to stay longer next time.
- Jeffery (9/5): Best little safari reserve. - Staff was amazing. The safari guides wore many hats, but they were always helpful and went out of their way to make sure you had an informative and interactive experience. I would give this place my highest recommendation. Finding the property was difficult. And an adventure in and of itself. And road/roads to property were a bit rough. But the payoff is well worth the journey.
- Nina (9/5): Relaxing stay - Overall a great mini-break. Easily accessible from Johannesburg for a weekend away, or longer. Knowledgeable game rangers with a passion for the bush. Game drives are twice a day. The luxury family rooms are beautiful and private. Mobile spa facilities are available. The tap water has a very earthy taste (even when filtered). It would have been an added extra to have bottled water supplied in the rooms.
- Janice (9/5): We managed to see more than expected, Devon & Zola are very knowledgeable rangers. - Very good All very good
- Janimae (9/5): Superb -
- Vanessa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jen (7/5): Peaceful - Our room was clean and neat, loved the shower. Pleasant staff who listened to you, Enjoyed the game drive.
Lovely and quiet. The meals were mediocre, especially lunch. We don't like our food when it is cold which is what happened. Also limited in variety sometimes. Also had uncooked meat once, which was the braai chicken. Asked if they could put out a bowl of fruit for people to take as a snack or after meals (they brought me a fruit platter!)
Not enough shelves or hooks to hang things in bathroom
- Benjamin (9/5): Amazing Safari suitable for families with young children. - Excellent experience for families. They did their best effort to make the little kids comfortable and enjoy the Safari.
- Magan (9/5): Superb -
- John (9/5): Amazing Time with Family at Mziki - Host, Manuella is welcoming, warm and friendly.
Our main guide was Zola, who’s incredible at his job - well informed, attentive and excellent in spirit.
Kego, the chef was amazing.
The game drives are worth it - so make sure you do both the morning and evening drives. This is not about the property, but more about the road leading towards the property - it’s terrible, and needs repair.
- Leo (9/5): Perfect weekend getaway - Mziki is a hidden gem. A beautiful, developing game reserve with a lodge that provides good, simple food and simple, functional rooms. The lodge is on the reserve (=+/- 5x5 km) and a short drive from the entrance. No 4x4 needed, normal car will do (with careful driving). The rooms are modern and properly equipped. Modernized bathrooms. Open Wifi, including in the rooms. Some minor points are: Google directions are misdirecting at the last part of the drive in. One should follow the signs (even in the dark); The rooms could do with a bit more / closed off closet space and a new couch.
- Stacy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cristina (9/5): Genuine, enjoyable, relaxing, quality time safari ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - It is a very genuine safari place. We have been there 10 years ago and came back again this year and nothing has changed, in the good sense.
The service is excellent and discrete.
The place is genuinely integrated in the nature but the rooms are very comfortable and attended twice per day while you are out for the game drives (including different chocolates every night). Nice boma environment for all the meals.
No monkeys on the property so you can leave the windows and door opened
The swimming pool is cool but great ! You can relax, read, swim and not feel the others' presence around if you don't want to or enjoy their company.
The guests seem to be international and well educated, easy to bond with ☺️
The game drives and rangers! Are excellent 🦒🐘🦏🐒🦓🐃🐗🦖
The property has 6000 ha and about 20 guests driving around...
The animals are shy as they should be in a natural environment but the rangers are very good and tenacious and make you discover something outstanding at each and every drive. They are knowledgeable and attentive without talking too much, so you can enjoy the ride 😉 We had Zola and Chris and they were great!
We saw elephants, rhinos (de horned to avoid poaching 😒), giraffes, buffalos, warthogs, kudu, nyala, red haartebeest, blessbok, reedbok, zebra, gnu, impala, baboons, vervet monkeys, crocodiles and lots of birds, big and small.
Extraordinary sightings ❤️ The food could have been a bit better...
More braais and better quality meat / fish would have been great.
I enjoyed the venison stews and pap & sauce.
Coffee was available in abundance but very weak - probably prepared by someone who doesn't drink it...
The buffet was freshly made, with love but if you are fussy with food, be prepared to eat what you get and bring your own treats.
The souvenir shop doesn't have attractive stuff, which is a pity because people have so much time to enjoy shopping ☺️
- Maqhosha (10/5): thank you to the awsome staff at Mziki. the reception was amazing and the atmosphere was great. awsome place to get away - it is very intimate and has the best staff everything

- Natalie (10/5): Incredible game lodge situated only 2 hours from JHB. - Majestic lodge situated 2 hours away from Jhb. The staff were absolutely fantastic. Food was incredible, along with the game drives. Zola, our game ranger went out of his way to assist us. We will definitely be back.
- Nilza (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claudia (10/5): - Tolles Ambiente, sehr nettes und aufmerksames Personal. Wir kommen gerne wieder!
- Aminah (8/5): Very good -
- Carpal (9/5): enjoyable and relaxing, staff was very accommodating! - great location! a bit pricey for the type of food that was served! bigger effort needed on the food.
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gadi (9/5): Superb -
- Js (10/5): A lovely time in this beautiful haven of peace Gad quiet. the staff were excellent, super friendly and well informed. - It was rustic yet comfortable. it was all excellent
- Fahieme (7/5): The staff, the serenity and the wild life made me forget about the basic accommodation - Awesome staff who attended to our every need, easy to access, loved the game drives. well priced considering. This is more a comment instead of "what I did not like"
Look, it is the bush so I am aware that I need to tailor my expectations, and for the price I was not expecting 5 star, however the rooms were quite basic and will disappoint those expecting any sort of frills whatsoever.
- Roger (10/5): - My stay here was very enjoyable. The staff was very nice and friendly. The game trips were great as well. A great place to stay for a couple days!
- Ansonette (10/5): Truely African Gem - Extremely good service - you won't experience African hospitality in a better way
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great safari lodge! The game drives were excellent and our ranger was fantastic. The food was always beautifully prepared and delicious. Would recommend to anyone looking for a more individualized safari experience.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel really close to Johannesburg - We went to my 2 kids they had a great time. They put families with kids in the same vehicle. Great drives, saw many animals, great food, very friendly staff. Relax 100 percent. Go totally recommend it. Rooms clean and comfortable.
